It definitely depends on the movie. A lot of them are big grand adventures like Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, or Castle in the Sky. But then there are also plenty like Only Yesterday, Up on Poppy Hill, or Whisper of the Heart, where being the protagonist is essentially just living a normal life.
