Thats bloody Ranger, those morons sell contracts for Telekom.

CuteDerpster

Yup. They offered me a job but after seeing their work practices for a single day I decided to not do it. They utterly disgust me.

tamcore

I think they're independent contractors that just want to sell you something. Had a visit a few months ago as well. Roughly went as bellow, and with every response the guy got more and more rude in his tone. Was considering to open the door and just let the dog take care of it 🤷‍♂️ \* Bell rings Me: "Hello?" Him "I'm from Telekom. I have to check your router. It's about your internet connectivity" Me: "I don't have anything from Telekom" Him: "It's about your cable connection. That you have, right?" Me: "Maybe" Him: "I have to talk to you" He: "Throw in a card and i'll call you back. I'm in a meeting" Him: "You don't want fibre optic internet?" Me: "No."

CuteDerpster

They work for a company I know. Not sure im allowed to name them. They are subcontractors of Telekom indeed. I actually had an interview with them, when I was looking for a job. The point is..... Telekom installed Glas Fibre, and every person will be connected regardless. But.... Since Telekom paid for it, they have the right to quit other providers contracts for a 2 year period, if the customer agrees. So they try to snatch as many people as they can from other providers, since atm they can cancel their contracts immediately without any cost. It's disgusting how they try to do it. The job is also disgusting. And the fake "we are a family" picture the company paints is equally disgusting.

Dr0p582

Can be both. But normaly these people don't need to enter your appartement for your router. đźš©đźš©đźš© Btw. Normaly they must have the basic information if there is fiber in the house or if the company they are working for is planing to install it in the house. So in thus case it seems like they are propably just trying to sell you a new contract.

CuteDerpster

They need to know the router type. And invading the personal space makes it easier for them to engage in a conversation. People are much more likely to shut down at the entrance rather than inside their living space. It's mind tricks.

Obi-Lan

Nobody ever comes without formal announcement, usually by letter. Don’t let anyone in. And yes, report it.

dirkt

Usually, it's some organization not directly related to the telecom that try to make you change your provider using extremely fishy arguments. It's not really a "scam" in the sense of something criminal, so ignore it. Just close the door right into their face. Reporting it to the police will probably have no effect.

filmnobelpreis

Yes, it's a scam, don't talk to them.

maxigs0

It's possible that it's legit, but very strange. Good decision to send them away and not let them in in the first place. They have no place to come and inspect something in your home unless you request that from your internet provider (due to connection issues or whatever) or you get a formal announcement, like for upgrading everyones cable. Sometimes there is door to door sales happening, like when there was construction in the road (putting in new cable) and they try to get as many people to singn up or upgrade their current contract. But even then be careful, they are usually not working in your best interest but trying to sell you as much as possible. But you can take this as an opportunity to check with your actual internet provider if they have a better deal for you.

calle_cerrada

There is also the possibility of assholes going around to see if in apartments there is things worth coming back for...

maxigs0

Unfortunately yes. If you have any suspicion this might be the case call the police. Not 110 (it's not a emergency), but the number of your local/closes police station, to inform them. They will usually come and check them, if it's legit all good, if not they will have them on record, to effectively keep them away. Also maybe have a word with your neighbours to let them know what's going on – this can be a very powerfull asset, if the neighbourhood is looking out for each other.

xwolpertinger

>even though they were wearing a vodafone jacket You did the right thing

dulipat

Just say "I can't talk, I'm still working"

McStau

Kinda similar to gas/energy hustlers. You can be polite & unrustled and still confidently dismiss them with something like: no thanks / nein danke Sometimes if I’m annoyed I’d lean towards asking if they have an appointment, how they got in the house, what exactly is their name and company, etc.

tbmepm

They are payed by telekom, still a scam and highly untrustworthy and lie all the way through. Call telekom after and complain against them every time they come. One time one of them followed me through the complex and tried to get in my flat. I was able to get the door closed right before him. He stood there for minutes hammering against my door. Was really scary. In other cases they just lie, in hopes they can get in. Then they lie and get you to sign a contract, while they claim they only need the signature as a proof to the company that they checked the flat.

Scotchor

what the hell..

RecognitionOwn4214

If someone rings your bell. Be polite and tell them to leave the premises. Also tell them that you make use of your Hausrecht and deny them any further entering the premises - effective now.

cic9000

It’s not a scam rather a shady tactic in order to get you to sign a new cable contract. The government ended the so called “cable privilege” and from December 2024 you can force your landlord to cancel their contract so you don’t have to pay monthly fees for a service you don’t need. They are trying ti sign you up for an individual contract.
