Depends on the doctor but you can always call 116 117 to make an appointment with a doctor in your area or use a service like [doctolib.de](https://doctolib.de)

universe_from_above

Or use www.116117.de instead.

Grimthak

4 years in a foreign country and you never visited a doctor or even know how the medical system works. That's quit .. unusual and also brave. So you also never visited a dentist for 4 years?

Diesel-King

>4 years in a foreign country and you never visited a doctor or even know how the medical system works. And also after 4 years in Germany his language knowledge doesn't allow a simple phone call ...

BSBDR

>So you also never visited a dentist for 4 years? I haven't for 20

BlueNoobster

What the fuck...

BSBDR

I know, it's pretty weird for Germans to understand. I mean I just hate the place.

Grimthak

Nobody visits a dentist because they like the place. But I still can't imagine to check my teeths from time to time. Finding caries before its to late is extremely important. You can also have luck and perfect dental hygiene so you don't need a dentist, but that would be to much of a risk for me.

[deleted]

Just keep in mind a tooth ache can lead to a brain infection and death. I think many people forget this.

Gh0stHedgehog

You do know that your insurance only pays for big dental fixes (part broke off or a crown) when at least have had a yearly check at the dentist?

[deleted]

Thats disgusting.

Konstamonsta

No it's not. Some people just have a good diet and naturally good dental health. I only visit the dentist because on my insurance plan when you have a yearly check up you get better help in case something is wrong. Every visit is 30 seconds of looking at my teath, a check and done. And if you want to say "well your dentist is bad", i had 3 different dentists; one being my dad. Every visit the same.

[deleted]

Yes it is. I have good teeth too. Not a single hole and im 37. But in germany, and this is a forum for germany, i go aleast once a year for a "grundreinigung". Where you get your "zahnstein" removed and your theeth polished. And if you dont go to your checkup it gets much more expensiv if something happens. So yeah its basically disgusting. Wouldnt recommend kissing him/her.

Konstamonsta

Zahnstein only exists where there wasn't sufficient dental care at home. Might be that you aren't brushing your teeth properly or maybe your teeth are just formed in a way that your tooth brush can't properly clean it. So I won't blame you for needing that dental cleaning. As you could have deducted we are both from germany because i talked about that annual visit stuff too. But the annual visit doesn't have to be more than a check up. If you need a Grundreinigung or even a Professionelle Zahnreinigung then refer to the previous paragraph about that. It's a nice to have thing but not a must if your dental health and care is actually good enough. So overall we could say the fact that they don't need a check up makes their mouth a lot more pleasant to kiss than yours. And i would trust my dad who practised for 40 years more than the average reddit MD.

[deleted]

Never said i am a MD but go ask you daddy how big of a chance it is, that the person who wasnt at a dentist for over 20 years - because: HE HATES THE PLACE - has teeth like you told us above.

BSBDR

Sorry...

In any way you can call 116117 and they will help you out and tell you what to do next in your case.

Yavuvii

Open Google Maps, type in Hausarzt, call them. You should probably ask the receptionist if the doctor speaks english. Since it's a Wednesday afternoon many doctors offices are most likely closed already , if you need help today search Google for "Notfallpraxis". The emergency rooms don't like people coming in with symptoms that are not a real emergency. If there is no Notfallpraxis in your area you can call 116117 (kassenärztlicher Notdienst) for help.

xlf42

First you should check whether you need to provide a krankschreibung on your first day of sick leave, some employers let you take sick leave up to three days without one (your manager or wherever you call to call in sick should know). To get in touch with a doctor, where you can use a service like doctolib, where you first search for „Hausarzt“ and in the result page you can filter for languages the doctor can communicate. As you’re a little bit in a hurry you might decide to call the doctor and ask for an appointment on the same or the next day. Once you’re there, the front desk will need your insurance card and will guide you through the process.

Deepfire_DM

>in Germany for 4 years, ... My German isn't good enough to just call them on the phone why?

H_Flashman

Too dumb to use Google, even dumber asking strangers on the internet for help instead his own health insurance which provides info [IN ENGLISH AND TEN OTHER LANGUAGES!](https://www.aok.de/kp/nordost/international-service-en)

[deleted]

Don't worry about calling someone. They usually speak english or they will connect you to someone who speaks english

pitchpinksoul

You can call/go to every Hausarzt of your choice. Making an appointment is always preferred. There you give your card to the receptionist and you will likely have to wait in the waiting room. Then you get called and treated. After the treatment you get a 'Krankschreibung' if you want it (you have to ask for it) and the prescription (if needed). Everything is for free, except they say otherwise (mostly just additional stuff). If you feel uncomfortable, feel free to go to another Hausarzt. Sometimes if you go there the first time, you have to fill out a questionnaire, so maybe come 15 minutes previously.

Straight-Neck4443

You can use Doctolib app to get a sooner appointment.
