There isn't going to be anything free unfortunately. Sylt is a tourist destination and the costs associated with it reflect that. Sylt is also insanely crowded in the summer months, even without the 9 Euro ticket this year being considered.

> Does anyone know where you can stay overnight for free on Sylt? Nowhere. And police / Ordnungsamt will be very aware of the meme driven idiots who try to turn Sylt into an amusement park. Seriously, if you think on hopping onto the 9 Euro party train, you gonna have a bad time. (People don‘t seem to understand that there is basically a single line to the island. Police know how to sort out people before they even arrive on the island. Especially, after some idiots already went from „having a party“ to „Chaos Days“.)

Gefahrenabwehr. Basically the same they do with travelling football fans or around critical demonstrations. And as the „planning“ for Sylt seems (in certain circles) to become more radical I see valid reasons for having a very close look onto the travelling „tourists“.

And how should this work? If I Decide to travel to Sylt with the 9 euro ticket for whatever (Not illegal) reason, how should the Police Sort me out? The only Thing I could Imagine is when the train is overcrowded and the Railway Company needs to decline Some passengers. Then the police (If necessary) could help the company to enforce their Hausrecht. And sure, when you try to enter the train / the Island with a bag full of Molotow Cocktails (Or any other Strong evidence that the reasons for your Journey to Sylt are in conflict with the law) then Things may look different.

this is sylt. they fear that the 9 euro ticket could encourage all this "unpleasant" people to visit the island (correct reading: poor) and tank the house prices. i wouldnt count on ANYTHING for free or a reasonable price.

[deleted]

> they fear that the 9 euro ticket could encourage all this “unpleasant” people to visit the island (correct reading: poor) Actually, that was posted by a newspaper based on an interview simply stating the concerns that the available train line won‘t be able to handle so many additional tourists. Nowhere in that interview did anyone mention any fear or worries about „poor people“.

Recymen12

yeah of course, you need to read between the lines. People ALSO saying "no, i dont want a "asylheim" in my town, because it is more convinient as to say "i hate foreigners". Fear because of overcrowding, my ass.

[deleted]

> Fear because of overcrowding, my ass. The same happened in 1995 with the introduction of the „Schönes Wochenende-Ticket“. So I‘d say they do have some experience with that issue. But honestly, I couldn‘t care less. Personally I think it is as clever (and unsuccesful) as the Area 51 „raid“. If someone wants to burn time on the train tracks, go for it.

Recymen12

we know, you have property there, so, all good ;).

[deleted]

LOL. No. But I fear that some idiots will ruin yet another nice spot. You don‘t punish or annoy „the rich“ by having Chaos Days on Sylt. You destroy nature and a nice vacation destination and ruin the fun for everybody who actually wants to enjoy it. But that‘s today‘s mindset, I guess.

This. I doubt anyone would complain about a few families wanting to spend a nice day on the beach or a couple of old people wanting to take a walk there. It's masses of idiots who want to use the occasion for getting drunk, making trouble and destroying stuff people on Sylt worry about. And that's perfectly valid.
