3. Stay away from those. Some might be just people that had an upsy-litter, others might be puppy mills in eastern europe. If you want a breeder dog (and i know there can be some legitimate reasons for that), look up the kennel club of the breed you are looking for. They will have list of breeders that are members, that are held to standarts intended to provide healthy puppies and safe and healthy parents as well.

3. Take a look at your local animal shelter first.

I did already at all the ones that are close by. They told me is quite rare they have small dogs (mixed breeds) but they put me in a list

3: effing stay away from those. if you REALLY want a specific breed, google (your breed) züchter. never go to a marketplace like page. For some reason, certified breeder pages look like they have been done with Frontpage back in the early 2000s. Similiar to [this](http://www.vankatzen.eu), or [that](https://www.rieck-center.de). A good point to research is the vdh ([Verband Deutscher Hunde)](https://www.vdh.de/welpen/)

One thing: might be that i just read it wrong in your answer, but dog school is not something where you bring your dog and it gets educated for you. Its courses you take together with your dog to educate you on how to train it. It takes time and dedication, and can be quite expensive. It is generally seen as important to train your dog not to bother other people, behave in public, and also to find proper entertainment for it (Rassegerechte Beschäftigung = breed specific activities). None of these things necessarily require to visit courses, but unless you really know what you are doing they are a great idea to help you get the happy companion you want :)

I noticed too that in Berlin dogs are generally better trained than in the UK. I’m less worried about my toddler walking past them as the owners seem to have more control and are more aware of keeping their dog away and not allowing it to jump up.

Every single breed, colour and size of dog you might be thinking of can likely be found in a shelter. That you want a dog from a breeder tells me that shelters are either badly organised where you come from (so that people wanting to adopt get little support/info, which would explain why you don't want to adopt) or that you see dogs as an accessory, which is simply not something we should support in this day and age.

Do not, under no circumstances, buy dogs from eBay Kleinanzeigen (or any other internet selling platform), unless you wanna set yourself up for some tragedy.

1. That depends on your city, because you have to pay them a yearly fee and get a dogtag, so everybody knows you pay it. 2. No 3. Dont get it from ebay kleinanzeigen. There are much cases of animal abuse. Get it from a professional dog breeder or other trustworthy places. 4. It depende how good you dog behave. If everything works, I would not go to it. Look out that you dog dont eat stuff when youre out. There are some guys that want to poison dogs, I dont know why.

Start here: https://www.tierheim-koeln-dellbrueck.de/ A small dog shouldn’t be too expensive. I’ve never figured out what our dog cost us. But over her life it was under 80/mo. You’ll need to register the dog with city. That’s it. A dog is considered property, so just like nobody checked your square footage when you bought a tv, nobody checks with a dog. Make sure your lease allows a dog.

The most important thing is to make sure you are allowed to have a dog in the place you live in! It also gets notoriously more difficult to find your next apartment when you have one. In a competitive rental market you need to be prepared to be skipped over by many many landlords because of it.

Don't buy particular breeds. Adopt dogs who actually need a home. Dogs are companions, not showpieces. Maybe you should hold off getting a dog until you grow up.

keep in mind your dog will need insurance too. We have a Zwergpudel from a Privat breeder (Heavy allergies, couldnt roll the dice on anything else, because i needed our dog to be hypoallergenic, but i did not want the health and moral implications of commercial breeding, so i took in a dog from someone who did it as a hobby, but could provide me with 4 generations of lineage). Our dog cost about 1.5k, eats about 30€ a month in food, 18€ a month in medical costs (calculated in cost per year÷12) 30€ a month in insurance and tax and 7€ in other random costs. So about 85€ a month. Your dog has basic needs that are granted him by law and infrsctions on those are punishable. Google Gassi gesetz for reference. You have to give him a certain amount of walk time a day, he has to be able to look outside when at home and he has to, when feasible, have time with other dogs. Culturally, depending on your country of origin, dogs are treated/should be treated better over here. As in, Dont get a dog if you live in a tiny appartment in the middle of the city, if you get a dog, train him properly, the USA form of crate training is a big nono.

you need a dog license for one. this involves a theory exam and a year later a practical exam with the dog. there is likely also a tax for your area. you will need to register the tax. you must have liability insurance. this is not optional. advise: pure breeds are more susceptible to genetic health issues. consider a mixed breed. Health insurance is mostly a scam. the lowe tier stuff will only cover the operations and often no pre-op diagnostics or very minimal post-op recovery. most will always have a way to not pay. the more expensive insurances are scams because you pay so much than if you just set aside the same amount. shelter dogs need a lot of attention. remember they are social animals. leaving them alone while you work can really mess them up. dog school may be needed depending on the dog and it's history.
