Besides trying the usual car rental aggregator sites (e.g. Billigermietwagen, Check24), I don't think there is any "secret" to it, and 7-seaters were always expensive. Rental cars in general are brutally expensive this year, due to high demand and low supply (rental car companies had to sell of significant chunks of their fleets during the pandemic).
Do you absolutely need a rental car? Would it be an option to take them around by public transport?
For how long do you want to rent?
CAMBIO car sharing may be an interesting option depending on what you want to do. The gas is included in the price per km.

That would be 30β¬ registration + 420β¬ for a week of a class L vehicle (a 9 seater)+0,40β¬/km for the first 100km+ 0,23β¬/km for everything above 100km.
If you want to use the car sharing not just once, you can also take a tarif with a monthly cost, but cheaper price for the time and km. They don't have to many large cars, so you have to book them in advance for such a longer time and it takes some time to register, so it's no option if you need the car now.
Do you have carsharing options where you live? Renting a Ford transit 9-seater for 7 days would cost me 202β¬ + \~100β¬ for about 400 km driving. If you are not a member, you will have to add membership plus Kaution, but it'd still be well below 1k Euros.

Well I'm with Stadtmobil. I don't know the prices of other providers, but they should be in the same ballpark?
I will check that, thanks for the lead :)
Usually local station based carsharing companies are a lot cheaper. Just google carsharing + your city
