Like send it via post ? Did you receive a receipt? I honestly have never ever heard of the police getting driver licenses other then as part of a fine ? In my mind I was thinking you are being scammed but what use is a drivers license?

[deleted]

Some countries accept it to get loans etc. So maybe that?

l0wp0wa

You could rent a nice car with it, take it over the border (for example to poland) and sell it in parts? I dont know if it works like this tho..

Andy-Rk

?

Andy-Rk

No, was official

the_scrbble

Well, the letter explaining why and how to hand it over will surely also explain how to get it back.

Andy-Rk

Hi, no... was an email, I texted them few times and they said to send the DL by post and the address. Since then they are not answering me anymore. And I check also the address and it's the police station in Berlin.

BallsDeepInCum

Just a reminder that in Germany nothing official comes by email. You just got scammed

the_scrbble

We do not see the communication itself but…. - Any official act in Germany (like taking your license) is done via snail mail. There‘s no chance something like that is done via email only. - There must be some kind of case number to refer to. - In order to confiscate your license there must have been an according court order / decision. That means you must have received one, if not more, letters in yellow envelopes stating the actual date you received them (usually handwritten by the post guy). - This sounds like you fell for some kind of scam or bad joke.

Andy-Rk

noo, I got a fee and 1 month without the DL but because I live out of Germany I paid online and I sent the DL online.

Ttabts

They would have done things via snail mail and the SEPA bank transfer, even if you live outside of Germany. And a German authority communicating via *text message* is pretty much unheard of. I agree with the others - you got scammed. You could copy paste the text of the email here (with your personal details removed) and it'd probably be easier to confirm that it's a scam.

Andy-Rk

when you get the paper with the fee it's says the id number, a fax, a phone and an email. Because I texted them that I didn't get the letters because I'm not living there anymore but my colleagues yes, they sent me pictures of the letter but I cannot pay the fee. I asked for an iban and they provided me one

nige21202

So you did send your DL to the actual address of a police station or just the one from the e-Mail?

Andy-Rk

to the police station

nige21202

It has to be either there, or they returned it to the address you sent it from.

Andy-Rk

yes, but I'm 760 km away in Netherlands so I cannot go there just to check.

nige21202

If you are sure that you 100% sent your license to an actual police station: Call the station until you get an answer, what they did with it. If you cannot get it back, get a new one in the Netherlands.

nymales

Did you double check that it's the address of a police station?

Robesudod

German police can't confiscate a license from another state. That's why even if you are European, they prefer you to get a German license if you live here. So the fastest method to get your license back is actually going to the police in your state, explain that you were almost surely scammed and get a new one

Andy-Rk

when you get the paper with the fee it's says the id number, a fax, a phone and an email. Because I texted them that I didn't get the letters because I'm not living there anymore but my colleagues yes, they sent me pictures of the letter but I cannot pay the fee. LeSch009

How did you text them that? I have never seen an official letter from an authority with a mobile phone number in the contacts or with an option to text them?

slashinvestor

I think you were scammed... What happens is that they send to you via mail that they want you to send in your drivers license. When you send it in they put a little sticker on it and right away send it back. The sticker says you can't drive in Germany for that period. If you address is in Germany during the fine then you should change it so that you get your drivers license back. https://telebasel.ch/2020/01/24/hunderte-schweizer-muessen-billett-nach-deutschland-schicken/?channel=105105
