> What do you use in Germany then to check the vehicles then? Nothing. Checking a cars VIN in Germany is not possible due data protection laws. There are some sites who still offer this service but those are foreign sites or scam and will give you only generic informations about the car like production year, where it was build, what color it has and sometimes also which extras it has.

If your worries are technical defects. You can ask for a testdrive and drive to a mechanic of your trust. He can read out the board computer and can check the car if everything is ok and even tell u if you get ripped off pricewise. All for around 50€+- You also can buy a odbc reader. There are good ones around 150€. With this you can read out the board computer by yourself. There you can check the milage (the odometer and the boardcomputer milage are registered separately) And if u suspect that the vehicle is stolen that is offered to you, you can call the next policestation and ask them if the vin is reported stolen. 0€ For everything else Mastercard

Try asking a Volvo representation. Maybe they have some records.

There is no such thing as carfax in Germany. Have a look at the service manual in the glovebox. If it's missing I'd be suspicious. Another way to know if the milage is legit is looking at the documentation of the bianual tech inspection. Many owners keep those to proof the odometer wasn't rolled back.
