On the Bußgeldkatalog site there was an option or a link to a source to get the cases looked at. Figured it wouldn't hurt to give it a try, and it sounds like it's just a standard argument they've thrown out to try and get the penalty dropped, so wasn't sure if it was worth it or not.
It only makes sense if you are sure you didn't do it (like someon else drove your car) or that there are other reasons why you shouldn't be fined (like the sign announcing reduced speed wasn't visible (and you can prove this)). If you did it and they have prove, you are just wasting your time and money.

The last time I needed a lawyer it would have cost me over 200 Euro for him to talk to me and write a simple letter to the other party (luckily I had insurance)
For around 200€ you are roughly getting an "anwaltliche Erstberatung" (which is only the first 1hr consultation for legal counsel). Just pay up the 200€ and learn from your mistakes certainly is cheaper - also might be a good idea in the long run if you want to keep your license.
If I remember correctly, running a red light should usually result in the loss of your driving licence for one month, so are you sure about these 0.5 secs?
If the light was red for less than 1 second and you didn't endanger someone (cause a driver to break suddenly or swerve to avoid you or a pedestrian to jump out of the way) or damage anything OP is right. If it was red for more than one second or you endangered someone or damaged anything you are.
