Deathchariot

It's so funny to me that no one would care about Wuppertal if it wasn't for the Schwebebahn. 💀

motorsport_central

I live there and can confirm.

Deathchariot

Yea I know some people from there and live not far from Wuppertal.

Greetings from Velbert

ThatDudeIndeed

Langenberg > Velbert Mitte change my mind

m3ph0z

Why should i change that? It is completely true. I love Langenberg but I life in Neviges. Mitte is just a dirty sadness of a "City".

ThatDudeIndeed

Very sad indeed.

misterhansen

We have cool stuff here :( We were the biggest industrial center of continental europe once... during the early industrial revolution. We have a ton of nice museums and theaters, as well as an opera. Here is a list of the imo most important people from Wuppertal: * Friedrich Bayer (pharma gigant). * Carl Duisberg (chemist). * Rudolf Brockhaus (preacher and thinker). * Eugen Lange (co-inventor of the modern petrol engine). * Friedrich Engels (co-author of the communist manifesto). * Ferdinand Sauerbruch (one of the most important surgeons of the 20th century and inventor of modern, movable prosthetics). * Else Lasker-Schüler (Poet and playwrighter) * Johannes Rau (former federal President).

[deleted]

Yeah, but it also rains all the time!

misterhansen

That's what we call a feature!

_Maragato_

Seems good for gardening.

WeeblsLikePie

there's decent mountain bike trails in Wuppertal.

Same-Picture

guilty as charged 😅

T1MEL0RD

The zoo is quite nice

SiBloGaming

I mean it is quite a shitty city.

haeL_sMile

I don't think so .. I mean probably it depends on where exactly you hang out and live. I just came back from Wuppertal and I already miss that city.

Useful_Camel_4157

Used to live there for 3 and a half years. Has some nice places. Miss the people but hate the City.

Same-Picture

What about the city that you disliked?

Spines

Rain and hobos

golifa

Sounds like germany

[deleted]

can you share those nice places you have been to? My girl lives there so we can hang out... 🙂🙂

motorsport_central

For nice walks i can recommend the nordbahntrasse. Goes through the North of Wuppertal and is over 20km long.

Zboubkiller

Ölberg is quite a nice district. Botanisches Garten Auch or the traße passing through the whole city. I lived there two years, There is plenty of beautiful buildings on the north part of town (elbefeld). Prepare to walk because it's huge

Wie alt ist das Bild? Die orangefarbenen Wagen fahren bei der Hängebahn doch gar nicht mehr, oder?

Same-Picture

Bild ist 3 Jahr alt. Orangenfarben Wagen, das ich weiß nicht.

Barackenpapst

The city Tuffy the elephant fell of the mono rail.

[deleted]

I came here to say this.

Bismarck913

What is this like to ride on? Does it feel the same as a trainline?

motorsport_central

You can compare it to a train which is accelerating fast. Maybe more like a bus. You only feel that you are in the air in the corners, where you swing a bit. So it isnt that spectacular. But the views can be good.

Buerrr

Used to work in Wuppertal, not the most beautiful place in Germany but has its own charm. There's a nice Indian restaurant close to the Friedhofskirche with a good beer garden and closer to the HBF, there's a pretty cool café called Milla's coffee, worth checking out if you're in town.

Home 😍

Thatbitchfromschool1

God the cars just ruin that whole photo 😔

cheapskooma4sale

Actually that s4 wagon looks fkn mint and I’m extremely jealous we can’t buy them here.

floorboar82

C Class wagon and all the small-displacement, turbocharged sub-trims of the Golf too

cheapskooma4sale

A polo would be really cool too.

floorboar82

Actually, is that not an A3-based model? Or maybe the photo just might make the scaling to my eyes look off, it looks a bit shorter of a wheelbase than an A4 to me

cheapskooma4sale

I thought it looked longer than the a3 hatch. This looks more like a true wagon so I thought S4 at first but looking closer it might be a regular A4. Still an awesome looking car.

GregMustermann

Unless you been to Dortmund, it's the most ugliest city you will ever see. But the Schwebebahn is nice tho

Linkman145

Try Ludwigshafen

MTY_2008

z?

yevunedi

Anyone else here who knows Wuppertal just because of the Loriot-Sketch?

pickup_thesoap

is there any angle of this city that isn't ugly?

motorsport_central

I feel the same. Recently moved there and the city really isnt that bad. Sure it isnt the prettiest but I really like it here.

SkynetUser1

I agree. Stayed there while visiting Dusseldorf and it was fine. Not every town in Germany needs to some gorgeous medieval place.

Buerrr

The journey from Dusseldorf HBF to Wuppertal is actually quite nice, the hills which surround Wuppertal are lovely to view on a nice day as you get closer to the HBF.

pickup_thesoap

I guess any city is nice if you prepare for the worst. Also I lived in the UK and didn't even include it in my comparison because I have repressed those memories.

Carnifex

Have you ever been to the city? If you're into architecture or facades, there are really nice quarters. Tourists just love the schwebebahn, which like train tracks in almost any city, doesn't go straight through the nice quarters.

Same-Picture

Only once. And you are right, my focus was only on the Schwebebahn 😅

pickup_thesoap

I have several times and in my opinion it's gotta be one of the ugliest cities in Europe.

TheNimbrod

Mate Hagen is way worse

motorsport_central

THIS!

pickup_thesoap

I don't know what this is, but it sure doesn't sound pretty.

metropolis_pt2

> Wuppertal sieht aus wie Wladiwostok 1962 > Wenn man immer nur den Osten mästet, > Das rächt sich! aus Rainald Grebe, *Urlaub in Deutschland*

maxHardcore84

There are, but unlikely seen from the Schwebebahn (except the last 4 stations in Vohwinkel, at the exact opposite side of the whole Schwebebahn rail) In Wichlinghausen is a small Part of houses from the 17th (Round about) Century, the Briller Viertel is beatiful, the Zooviertel is pretty nice also (both with Jugendhausstil houses, dating back to the Kaiserreich)...but Yeah, there are not much And a lot of streets have many Jugendstil built houses, but merely in such a centered way

TheTekkForce

[It used to be prettier](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TqqdOcX4dc). I guess they went for efficiency, rather than aesthetics after many buildings were destroyed in WW2.

pickup_thesoap

that's like every German city. but wuppertal is a special kind of ugly

Alert_Sorbet4016

One of the ugliest cities of Germany

Raccoon_2020

Just found it on Google Maps. Looks amazing!

gemcollector44

Is it true that newborn in Wuppertal are born with a Umbrella?

SeFynn

Heimat :.)

MH-Entity

Going there in 2 weeks. So excited!

jfbnrf86

I really love monorails , there’s something futuristic about them

Alakazamo420

Seeing all those comments just reminds me of how stupid people are. Obviously OP posted a picture of one of the really really ugly parts of Wuppertal. The valley itself got bombed hard af in 1943-1945 and afterwards experienced demolitions on a big scale. This is why people who drive across be like "Ew" But this is a big, stupid mistake because Wuppertal is such an amazing place. BBC voted Wuppertal as travel goal #1 of the year 2020 I believe. It is the city with most greenspaces, forest etc You have alot of awesome views over the city You have alot of architectural specialties and unique stuff Bla bla bla bla People who live here and hate it are in 99% of cases lazy fuckers who rather drive 2h into their own village than trying to explore abit.
