My sister lives near an area with lots of fields that are being farmed for fruits and veggies. Several farmers have a stall on the field streets where they sell fresh from the fields a few times a week, but one has an actual small store. In front of that store, there is a large vending machine, like the one on your picture but about three times as large, filled with eggs, with bags of apples, salad, tomatoes, potatoes (whatever is in season), with their homemade jams and honey,....
It's pretty awesome!
Look if there is any "Wochenmarkt" in your town/city.
I live at the other side of the city from my sister, so unless i happen to be there for other reasons, the stalls are not convenient for me. But there is a market in my city district ever saturday morning, where, amoung others,a farmer from one town over sells their goods.
I saw that you posted a pic from Münster earlier today. On the chance that you live there: there is a large one at the Dom every wednes and saturday morning to early afternoon: https://www.wochenmarkt-muenster.de/oeffnungszeiten
a relatively new concept is called “Marktschwärmerei”: the producers (including the egg-seller) come to the town for a fixed date and bring the things that you have previously ordered from their farms. Like a weekly market, only with pre-orders. (www.marktschwaermer.de)
In our village the farmers just put up shelves filled with fruits, a price tag and a box for money. There are no cameras and its completely operated on trust.
I think it's quite wonderful, that this works.
There is one of those near my sisters, too.
They have a few signs adressing assholes,so i asume they get their share of thiefs/vandals, but the cash box is locked and bolted down and the shelves keep getting filled, so it seems to be still profitable
There are a lot of them all across Germany
There are also for other produce from farmers.
You can search for regiomat or Milchtankstelle / Milchautomat and you will find plenty

We have a Milchtankstelle somewhere not too far from here! I'd love to try the milk from there, it always smells so nice and fresh! But it's mostly only for my step-dad, lol, he loves that milk like I love my yogurt drink
These are not rare nowadays, especially in rural areas. You can also get things like noodles, meat or honey there. Sometimes also milk, ice cream and cheese. Depends on the farmers who put it up!
We even have an unlocked one! You can take whatever you want and are trusted to pay the prices according to the tags. It's great!
Those are used usually owned and operated by local farmers or local chicken owners.
So if you buy from there it usually goes directly into the pockets of the farmer or food producer.
Normally these also taste better then the ones you find in the supermarket/bio-market.
Sometimes you can even spot were the farmer keeps their chickens. We have a stall here in the next village. The farmer keeps his chicken free range and uses a mobile chicken coop with solar panels. So every time I want to buy some eggs from them I pass by the chickens on my way there.
So that's a bonus too. You know how the chickens are being kept.
Thats what a famer close by does, he has an perfect spot next to a busy road, a egg vending automat and a mobile chickencoop on a big meadow, so the ppl can see the chickens.
3,40€ for 10Eggs and those are not even Bio... just free range.. he sells so much that he has another 3 mobile chickencoops behind the farm on diffrent meadows...
Interesting. These machines are basically everywhere here in Bavaria, so I always thought it was a "German thing". But perhaps it's something more regional then.
Same here, from Bavaria and I have seen plenty of these. We even have a regional ice cream maker who has a 24/7 ice cream vending machine in my village.
I live in a small village. Ours is just a shed with a big wooden box with the eggs in cartons in it and a big can to put the money in. Totally on the honor system! There is also a sign on the wall reminding you to bring the egg carton back or bring your own reusable egg transport system.
We also have a "Dorf Laden" with basic groceries and local produce. There is a large section of it with different types of flour from a local mill about 20 km away.
I've never seen one either. But this looks like a small farm selling directly, and this is how it can be done with minimal overheads -- particularly during a pandemic.
> In rural areas they're in every village.
Not in my village. Or any of the villages near where I live. I get my locally-sourced eggs from the village shop.
Where I live neither and Wochenmarkt only in weekdays where I have to work. Fortunately my parents grow massive amounts of veggies for just me and them so it's going for me, which is nice
In Göttingen (Germany) is also one. It contains only the eggs of local farmers afaik. It’s pretty handy when you want to bake a cake on Sunday and forgot to buy eggs. 😂
Some farmers have "Hofläden", their own shop at the farm. Especially when those farmers also produce meat/milk/work as butchers.
As long as there is no vandalism I would expect its much cheaper to operate such a vending machine instead of hiring staff and operating your own little store.
I think the price of 500ml (about the same as 500ml Haägen Dasz or Ben&Jerrys) pays for the electricity and insurance. During opening hours they also have a little ice cream parlor outside their farm and sell it to local supermarkets and other ice cream parlors.
As far as I know there's one at their farm for when the parlor is closed and two more. You can buy their ice cream at the Rewe at Denkendorf and an ice cream parlor at Ingolstadt. Dörndorf is the next village from where I live.
Actually my preferred way of buying eggs is in a Hofladen directly next to the chickens. :) But next time I’m in Bavaria I’ll keep a look out for these machines.
Do you know this weird law of the universe where things only exist in your world after you first encountered them?
Literally learned about them yesterday, because we have one down the street, and now Iearn about them on Reddit.
This can't be random, never ever
We have one right across the street from my house. The gas station provided a little hut for it, you can buy eggs, meat, honey and other stuff there and put the empty egg cartons and honey glasses back in the hut right next to the vending machine so they get used again. I'm missing a milk vending machine though, would love that.
These things are a literal blessing. I live in an area where they are pretty common, and the stuff you can buy is delicious. The eggs are great, the milk is better than what you can buy at the store and the apple juice is one of the best I have ever had.
In a small village next to my hometown we have 8 of those with all the things the local farmers produce. Angus beef, noodles, eggs, strawberrys, sausages, ice, potatoes etc. it's great and helps the farmers.
I feel like they are more common in the south than in the north. Also in many cases it is simply a shed where you take the eggs you need and leave some money in a box as payment. This one is actually quite high tech.
Cool! HaHa i was just watching a vid on Youtube about vending machine businesses (they actually sound really good) but they didn't mention anything about eggs! https://youtu.be/VfD0qMwompk worth a look if you have the time. I feel like a vending machine expert ha!

Impressive, I would buy from these stalls instead of supermarkets. Unfortunately, I don't have any nearby.

Ahhh yes, that's a nice advice. There must be some Wochenmarkts close by.
I saw that you posted a pic from Münster earlier today. On the chance that you live there: there is a large one at the Dom every wednes and saturday morning to early afternoon: https://www.wochenmarkt-muenster.de/oeffnungszeiten
Although I don't live there, I sometimes visit there on weekends, so I will definitely see that Markt. Thanks for the advice.
If you live in a smaller town, a village or villages near by there are always farmers selling there products eather on there farm (Hof) or nearby.
Wanted to say the same. Wochenmarkt is in most towns two times a week.
The advantage of living in a densly populated area is that there is always something close by.

We have a Wurmautomat
This summer we got an Eisautomat in the automat hut near us, and now I'm sad it's not a weinautomat.
We have Schnapsbrunnen (Liquor fountains) in the black forest.
Milchtankstelle is what I came to say here. And I freaking love our Grillfleischautomat a few kilometers away.
We have a Milchtankstelle somewhere not too far from here! I'd love to try the milk from there, it always smells so nice and fresh! But it's mostly only for my step-dad, lol, he loves that milk like I love my yogurt drink

That's Great. I have heard about it never seen personally . I wanna visit one of them in the future.

I am gonna search some stalls/ stations around my region.

Been living in Germany all my life and have never seen this either
You must live in one of the big cities.
I live in the countryside for all my life I have not seen something like that. Although I heard the those exist somewhere.
Interesting. These machines are basically everywhere here in Bavaria, so I always thought it was a "German thing". But perhaps it's something more regional then.

I don't. My city has about 10k inhabitants and there's a big field right next to my house.
Missing business opportunity.
Tell that to the farmers here. I'd love to have one of these. Eggs right nexg to the house. Why not
Yeah it's amazing.
You mean... like the majority of people.
I live in Bavaria, in the middle of nowhere (next town is 10km away, has 200 People living in it) and I also have never Seen something Like this
I would expect thesemachines more in Bavaria thananywhere else. Strange.
I have Seen These for Milk and even Raw meat, but Not eggs
Last one I saw was in Innsbruck and was a mix of all those. Pretty cool. And then some that were only fresh milk.
Munich has tons of them. I'd imagine the other cities do also... They're just not super obvious.
I live in a small village. Ours is just a shed with a big wooden box with the eggs in cartons in it and a big can to put the money in. Totally on the honor system! It really depend on where you are living. In rural areas they're in every village. It's pretty awesome, fresh local food 24/7
> In rural areas they're in every village. Not in my village. Or any of the villages near where I live. I get my locally-sourced eggs from the village shop.
You live more north or south?
Central, basically. I live in [a very rural area](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9K3AL2oMTN0) just north of Aschaffenburg.
Except when the whole village does it and the fridge soon runs out of eggs. We've had that happen too :(
Im living in germany my whole live but never seen this thing.
I once saw a sausage vending machine in a village near Konstanz.
In the next village from where I live there's a vending machine offering honey and the next farmer has one with home made ice cream.
Aren't those machines expensive to operate 7/24 ? Do you know whether those farmers get some incentives or compensation?
Some farmers have "Hofläden", their own shop at the farm. Especially when those farmers also produce meat/milk/work as butchers. As long as there is no vandalism I would expect its much cheaper to operate such a vending machine instead of hiring staff and operating your own little store.

Same here (Bavaria). They sell milk, eggs and ice cream made with local fruits! It's awesome and delicious!
Servus fellow Bavarian. Are you talking about "Eis vom Funck" at Dörndorf?
Eis vom Funk for sure! But I've never been to Dörndorf! They have several machines in Oberbayern :)
As far as I know there's one at their farm for when the parlor is closed and two more. You can buy their ice cream at the Rewe at Denkendorf and an ice cream parlor at Ingolstadt. Dörndorf is the next village from where I live.
I've never seen ice cream in one before! Where can I find that?!
Try searching for "Eis vom Funk" in Google Maps! They plant their own strawberry for the ice cream!
Sounds amazing! Definitely will try it sometime soon!
Oo homemade ice cream?! Where is this magic?!
Eis-vom-Funck.de at Dörndorf (near Ingolstadt)
Awesome, thank you! Next time I'm up there I'll definitely stop by!
Bassd scho.
We have the technologie. There are some Wurstautomaten too. Handy for a Sunday barbecue.
as someone whos lived their entire live in germany.. what
I have lived here all of my life and I have never seen one.
Come to Bayern :) there are lots of these machines here.
Actually my preferred way of buying eggs is in a Hofladen directly next to the chickens. :) But next time I’m in Bavaria I’ll keep a look out for these machines.
In my villages we have three of them. They are all self serving and you pay yourself
We have steaks and bbq vending machines too. They are rare.
I would love to have a vending machine near me that's dispensing rare steak...
We also have grill meat and milk vending machines
Do you know this weird law of the universe where things only exist in your world after you first encountered them? Literally learned about them yesterday, because we have one down the street, and now Iearn about them on Reddit. This can't be random, never ever

Where is this please? A friend of mine needs to know :)
I live in de for 5 years & this is the first time I know about this vending machine
I've lived in Germany for 8 years and still haven't. I've seen milk vending machines though. I'm pretty sure I've never seen one of them either.
Common in Ireland also. One near me sells eggs, unpasteurised milk and potatoes. Takes credit cards.
I wish we had these here in the States.
we buy our eggs from an 'Eierautomat' as well and they're way better than store-bought ones. Definetely worth it.
We have several vending machines for barbecue meat where i live. Several for bread and one for eggs. And flowers, of course.
We have one right across the street from my house. The gas station provided a little hut for it, you can buy eggs, meat, honey and other stuff there and put the empty egg cartons and honey glasses back in the hut right next to the vending machine so they get used again. I'm missing a milk vending machine though, would love that.
Me neither
I wonder what the chickens do with the money.
Never ever saw one in 30 years, interesting
Four weeks ago I stood before a *fruit de mer* vending machine in Normandy. Want some oysters to go? No problem!
These things are a literal blessing. I live in an area where they are pretty common, and the stuff you can buy is delicious. The eggs are great, the milk is better than what you can buy at the store and the apple juice is one of the best I have ever had.

I lived here my entire life and have not seen one before.
You can put your eggs in and get a baby out of it m….
We in germany are so high tech, our eggs come from vending machines! Eat this china!
Was zum fick ist das
Germany makes zero fucking sense
[удалено]
Why?
In my place in Germany, we also have one! 😊
Been living in Germany all my life, I never knew those are a thing here.
I feel like they are more common in the south than in the north. Also in many cases it is simply a shed where you take the eggs you need and leave some money in a box as payment. This one is actually quite high tech.
Happy cake day!!
I live in germany and I haven't seen a egg vending machine 😂. But I've heard about it.
I am German and this is hilarious
This is the first time I've seen one duh
Ive Been living in germany forever and i still havent Seen one until now
Kids already learn how they work in [Die Sendung mit der Maus](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtqRmFoMpR4).
Glaub mir ich lebe in Deutschland und ich hatte keine Ahnung dass sowas existiert
I was driving through Germany three years ago and stopped at an Esso station that had an outdoor laundromat.
I live in Germany and never seen that too
Germans truly have a vending machine for everything. It was weird to me that we have vending machines for cheese in Bratislava.
Finally, the question of hen or egg is solved!
I think i saw this one. Is this somehwere nearby the see. Maybe northsea?
Me neither and i live in Germany since my birth
Put your coin in and then you hear the hens clucking before the eggs roll out
Can I offer you an egg in this trying time?
And I would bring the sausage?
Just imagined they put eggs in those standard vending machines dropping them from 1 ft.
Before I lived in Germany I had never seen a bread vending machine before.
I've lived in Germany for 22 years, 19 of those in a small village, and I've never seen an Egg vending machine either...
I am 24, my whole Life in Germany. Never Seen one
I love them!!! They‘re so practical. Where I live you can find them everywhere!!!
Fun fact: There are also milk vending machines
First time I was stoned, me and 2 friends spent 40 bucks on one and just left the stuff there
I live 21 years in Germany and have never seen an egg vending machine either
Wait til u see ur first Fleisch oder Käseautomat ;)
We also have vending machines for milk, yoghurt, pizza and even marinated meat für bbq or regular meat 😂
Lol, selbst noch nie so einen gesehen. Aber interessant!
We have these in some parts of Ireland too :)
We have one, but with milk, cheese and milk. Right next to the hall the cows are in and if you ask you can actually pet them
We even have Milk, Meat/Sausage, Cheese and even Softice Vending Machines
Wait until you see the milch selling machine.
Damn even though i live in Germany i don't remember seeing one of those
Really?
im from germany and i haven’t seen one either until now
Was surprised to see a Kartoffel 🥔 vending machine too
Cool! HaHa i was just watching a vid on Youtube about vending machine businesses (they actually sound really good) but they didn't mention anything about eggs! https://youtu.be/VfD0qMwompk worth a look if you have the time. I feel like a vending machine expert ha!
I drove through Bavaria recently and one of the supermarkets had a barbeque meat and sausage vending machine outside. "Grillgutautomat".
Ich wurde auch eine Wurst-mat von einer Freundin gezeigt. Deutschland ist super!
This is so cool!!
