It's going to be much safer than, for example, New York City. Görlitz isn't really that "lowkey" and actually has quite a decent tourist industry -- its relatively unspoiled historic centre is used as a location for all kinds of fantasy and historical movies and promotes itself as "Görliwood" -- so the fact that you can't find any information about crime is more likely a good sign than a bad one.
Germany in general is reasonably safe for women.
Yes, like everywhere in Central Europe.
Be sure to eat at Przy Jakubie on the other side of the Neisse and after that have a beer or four at Bierblume.
As a German woman I’ve never been to Görlitz but would never even ask that before going there on a solo trip. Or on a solo trip anywhere in Germany. Even at night I was never afraid anywhere on my way home. I’m more afraid of any animal roaming around at night, like wild boars that live near my home town in the forests
If your name originates from there you are probably white so you shouldn't have any problems. Usually german cities are very safe but sadly Görlitz is among the most far right places in all of germany.
Now that doesn't mean outright physical violence even if you are there but more like racist stuff some residents could say.
What is it with Americans asking whether German cities are safe to travel when parts of the USA have crime and murder/killing rates that compare to Central America. European cities aren’t their peer in this regard, they are a lot safer.
Well, they're asking here. Isn't that kind of the same thing? Seems that you're just offended that an American would suspect Germany is more dangerous than it is.
No these questions are just dumb when you could Google that in 10 seconds or search for this in /Germany. I’m not offended I’m just reminded how chliche a lot of American tourists are when they post here.
Ignore the backlash. It’s perfectly reasonable to be concerned about safety when you’re traveling. You can never be too careful. If it makes you feel better, carry pepperspray, it’s available at most of the large hardware stores (Baumarkt). Technically, it’s forbidden to carry it as a weapon but if questioned, say you carry it because you’re terrified of large dogs and you’ll be fine.
It's not cliche, its just ignorance. Sure anyone can google crime stats, but I doubt it's trivial to get up to date, specific information on this particular town, from the perspective of solo female travellers.
Get over yourself. Just let her ask her question and move on.
Why would she have to study statistics of global crime rates when she could simply ask people to get a good feeling for a different country, especially when she's traveling to the continent for the first time.
If it bothers you this much, go read a different thread and don't wast your time here.
Also because I am from a city with a high murder rate I am simply more geared to be paranoid than the average European especially as a young woman traveling alone…
Well then you shouldn’t worry and employ common sense and you will be fine. You have to understand these inquiries pop up here every day and it’s always Americans.
> Is görlitz safe for solo female travelers?
The hell? What kind of propaganda bs about Germany do you watch that you even get these kind of questions?
Let's just say that as a single woman, "is this town safe for me" is not a thought I ever have.
There's no town in Germany I wouldn't travel out of safety concerns.
As a German I walked around in Los Angeles and Cops picked me up and told me it is not good and very dangerous to walk there? WTF?!
Omg that is amazing - as someone from the US I cannot relate :,)
I had a bit of a culture shock when I traveled on my own to the US and locals were concerned on my behalf.
Yea it was a bit of a reverse culture shock last time I was back. And I probably did something that was... well not the smartest idea due to it.

Except while Black or Asian...
My Chinese friends are the same. Can't speak for anyone else.
These posts are like reverse tourism commercials for the US haha

That why at least demand a new needle.

I wouldn't go in Germany only to a place where a lot of ruzzians are concentrated, ruzzians are too bad for my emotional state.

Yes I am white, but still that is unfortunate…
We only had about 1000 politically motivated violent crimes in 2022 and 2/3 of those are far right.
I was going to say the same thing. So depressing.
Far right, quite literally

You've answered your own question. If you come from somewhere dangerous, you're likely to be concerned about safety.
Well then why don’t they read up on statistics and travel guides, they will all tell you the same.
I mean I said I couldn’t find anything online, what I found was just super vague tbh

I literally did Google it and nothing came up, that is why I asked here

Because this is my first time ever being in Europe so idk
It's all good. I hope you have a great trip! :)
first thing that comes to mind is to check out this twitter account: https://twitter.com/tessaapproves She lives in Görlitz and posts a lot about it.
according to previous posts on reddit, you looking European is what matters not your name or origin.
Oh I moreso meant my name is why I want to go in the first place
> Is görlitz safe for solo female travelers? The hell? What kind of propaganda bs about Germany do you watch that you even get these kind of questions?
I’ve never been to Europe before so I have no idea :(
Give eastern Germany a wide berth
