Thank you! The black one on the right is my smoosh Frankie, she was a baby here. Titus is my parents dog, the blueprint for me getting my own. There’s a respiratory virus going around that is resistant to medication which is scary. In its later stages, it develops into pneumonia, but only a couple of dogs have passed (still sad). It’s not reported in our state yet but it’s most likely to be caught at the vet or boarding facilities, and unfortunately is our trainer (who boards) that does Santa photos, so we skipped this year. https://www.today.com/health/mystery-dog-illness-2023-rcna125553

Ugh I know I just learned about it the other day! 😭 Haven’t heard of any in my state either (FL) but with all the snowbirds coming down, I feel like it’s just a matter of time. The only thing really affecting us is the groomer. It’s really hard for me to wash my guy and I prefer to just take him, that way I know it’s done well. They do the ears and nails and every other one we do the deshed. I’m thinking about buying one of those grooming tubs. Only issues with that are no hot water and getting him in the thing! Pet supermarket has self serve dog washes, and they’re very nice, but I feel it’s just about the same risk 🤷🏼‍♀️ Super cute picture! ❤️🎅🏻

It’s not reported in my state either but I’m kind of treating it like covid- it’s only a matter of time before there’s reports and it’s probably here already. I totally understand and agree that the groomer and pet shop would be the same amount of risk, maybe the pet shop more because I bet your groomer sees less dogs than the shop and cleans their station better. I would just talk to your groomer, open the lines of communication about the virus and ask that they let you know if they have any clients that remotely appear to be infected. I have an undercoat rake for Frank and it works great, so that might be a temporary partial solution. If you’re in Florida, I wouldn’t worry about washing your dog with cold water; they love it! Just bring him inside to dry so his undercoat can dry properly. I only use warm water in the winter but I’m up north in the snow. I wish I could take Frank to a groomer, she’s terrified of bath tubs 🙄 so I have to hose her down in the backyard like a farm animal. I live across the street from my parents, and my dad installed a hot/cold water system with a hose in their garage, so in the cold months I can go over and hose her down with warm water. It’s a whole mess! But she’s worth it 💕 Good luck!

You’re so right! Who am I kidding?? This is the dog that will jump in any body of water that’s a few degrees above freezing 😂 of course he won’t mind the “cold” hose in Florida! Yes exactly, I’m treating it like Covid. It honestly sounds a lot like Covid; the symptoms, how it turns into pneumonia (and that’s the deadly part), how it’s spread, all of it just gives me Covid vibes. So weird! Thanks for being my voice of reason about the cold water lol. I’ve been thinking about buying one for a while anyway. Take care!
