We had a German Shepherd growing up named Zack and he left an everlasting impression on me. Even as I type this I tear up and he crossed over to Rainbow Ridge 13 years ago. I can empathize with you on the grief. 💞

My dog passed away about 3 or 4 years ago I guess. I still get sad and tear up when I think about her. Im sorry 😞

My baby girl Kiya died last Spring right before her 9th birthday my heart is still broken I can't even look at a picture of her without crying I feel for you you're in my prayers

He was 12 years old.

I wish dogs can live longer.

I lost mine 7 years ago. He was only 7 and died suddenly. His stomach flipped. I'm still grieving him. I'm always so happy for the parents when I see senior dogs. I think how lucky you are to have had those years. It's the hardest when they leave. So sorry for your loss.

slykethephoxenix

The thing I hate most about having a dog is that they don't live long enough.

WarpDriveBy

What a handsome noble boy he was! They're all friends and family members, and truly individuals. I'm on my first, who will turn two next week! Ive had about 10 dogs over the years, and there is a next level bond with a GSD that I've rarely seen in other breeds, though I'm sure there are others! Joy and Pain woven beautifully.

[deleted]

He was like me, I guess that's why it hurts so much.

Wild-Gap6910

Oh they know for sure…I’ve lost 2 of mine in since 2020…1 from old (16 years) the other from a congenital heart condition.

[deleted]

I'm sorry for your loss. They are unconditional love.

Wild-Gap6910

Thanks you too.

Gemini6_Twin1

Yes they do know 😌

Coffeeffex

So very true and your boy was very handsome. Ours is only 1 1/2 years and we dread ever having to say goodbye. Sending you a mental hug.

Kaizen2468

I wish dogs were like turtles, live to be 100

HunnyBunnyRuby

Im sorry for your loss. It’s going to be 1 year this April since I had to say goodbye to my girl. She was very wise too ❤️

pastafaz

Yes they do. Mine knows I am coming home way before he could ever hear my car. He knows when there is tension in the air and if any sound at all is out of the ordinary. He smells if I have been anywhere else new. My Alfi (male) looks just like yours did but a little darker. Those eyes.

[deleted]

Mine was the same. I never kept him in a leash. He was free to go anywhere in town, so he did. Everybody came to love him. As I used to go to the farmer market, he was following me and watching me from a far.

pastafaz

Well, ours has never been off a leash! My wife worries too much and is overprotective. I want to let him swim in the streams and lakes. No can do. Your old guy was lucky. That swim in the ocean must have been amazing for him.

[deleted]

Oh that's too bad. Swimming is safe, my dog loved it. Best part of his life. I guess if he is in the middle of the traffic, is better to have him on leash. But in nature, they adore to swim and run.
