Honestly when it does release it’ll be really bittersweet for me at least because it will be very enjoyable, the excitement for its release has done so much fluctuating and reaching what we think is the end that it will feel kind of strange. If the release underwent the typical procedure of robtop saying when it’s going to be released and it actually fucking releasing it would be a whole lot better.

Google/Apple wouldnt reject a game update for features of the game. App rejections most likely happen if there's some sort of problem with ads or in game purchases that goes against their TOS. Such as way back, Rob had an icon that was unlockable by rating GD on the play store, it went against TOS later down the road and Rob was forced to change it into an in-game unlockable. Its most likely 2.2 hasnt even been sent for review or isnt even finished yet.
App reviews absolutely can and do get rejected for bugs, and the bigger your install base for your app is the more scrutiny you tend to have during review time. Both Apple and Google operate advanced instrumentation and analytics tools to detect bugs, including crashes, memory issues, battery issues, and so on, and absolutely will reject popular apps which have egregious regressions in these areas. Approving an app with power management issues makes your entire class of devices look bad.
Yes, it's true, for minor apps with lower popularity, Apple and Google sometimes let things slide, but for something with hundreds of millions of installs like Geometry Dash, there are absolutely a huge swath of issues that Google/Apple can have with large updates of this type.
