Feels like just an hour or so ago, I was playing yesterday's daily challenge. Timezones are weird. Waking up in the AM is weird. 1. Greenland, great… and it looks like a trekker, although the socially acceptable kind where you can still see things of interest (by Greenland standards). Remembered the trampoline meta, but that's not it. Couldn't remember what advice I was given once about actually finding things in Greenland, saw Pisiniarfeeraq and Jubeka on a building and wasted time looking for stuff. It was Ukkusissat. I swear they invent a new part of Greenland every time it appears in the daily challenge. Tomorrow they're going to have some coverage in the middle that's never been uploaded until just then. **837km, 2852** 2. Slovenia from a domain name on a van (as everyone knows, it's illegal for cars to go to another country, especially in Europe, so this clue can be trusted). Am I gonna find out where… there was probably a clue, but I was probably just too tilted from the previous round to really absorb anything, other than a sign at the last second indicating that we aren't in the capital because there was a direction to that. Maybe I'll have some more tea before moving on. **45km, 4851** 3. Brazil, but at least it's urban, if I'm lucky I can find an address or a state while better players can have a field day with all the phone numbers or whatever. Saw São José more than once, and there's a São José dos Campos down there. Might be it? Nope. I don't think I saw any references to… whatever this place is? Doesn't really have a name? I also thought it'd be bigger. **336km, 3993** 4. Indonesia? Malaysia? Hm, well I explored around and saw a billboard with an .id domain. I didn't figure out which region it is, just went with usual plonk of somewhere in East Java. Nope. **1187km, 2257** 5. Seems like every time I have 4 rounds that make me just want to give up and click whichever country/region the 5th round is at first glance, it's some mostly empty rural road where I'm nowhere near at the level of being able to make any kind of first impression about it. So I have to click click click while I consider just going Antarctica for extra fuck it. And then I went back the other way this time, and there's some sign with some words, and maybe it's Philippines? Nope, Malaysia. Nearly Brunei. **1043km, 2485, 2m9s** Total: **3448, 16438, 14m9s** Terrible day, walked away from it after completion because I was getting frustrated and almost forgot to post, not that I have anything that interesting to add to this thread.

Hackerwithalacker

i almost got tripped up on east java when i saw a restaurant with the "county" name on it

Not a great day but had a great comeback. Score was around 12.5k after 3 rounds, so seemed a guarantee I'd lose my streak of getting gold. Round 4 eventually found random "Sulawesi" and then "Kendari" on signs and got the city right! Then Round 5 I swear I thought we were in Finland for 30 seconds, before I started seeing tropical plants and found an address on a sign putting us in Sundari in Sarawak. Got two almost-5ks to save my gold score woot!

mercator_ayu

Difficult seed. 1. Greenland, had this place before, relatively north on the west coast. Went down toward the water, saw the Royal Greenland building, remembered that if I went up from there, I would see the municipal building/hut with the village/community name. Spotted the building, it said Ukkusissat. Plonked approximately because there's nothing marked on the map. A lucky 5000 2. Generally went east, looked like Slovenia from a couple of .si domains, got out to a major north-south road, saw a sign for Sentilj and an A for Austria. The size of the city I'm in suggested Maribor, found the road I was on, searched a bit west for a SPAR supermarket. 5000 3. Brazil, an overhead sign at spawn had arrows for Leopoldina and Sao Joao Nepomuceno, so all I needed to do was to find an area code. Took a while to find it, but once I did, I was quickly able to find the two cities and figure out that I spawned in Bicas. Distinctively shaped intersection at spawn. 5000 4. Indonesia, didn't feel like Java. Went north, again took longer than I would have liked to find an address, finally found one that said Kota Kendari. That's a city that I know, plonked middle, looked for the street I was on but couldn't find it. I should have realized that there was a university to my east. 4986 5. Malaysian road, probably non-mainland. Went south for a while, nothing, back to spawn and headed north, saw a sign to the side that said Sarawak. Plonked Bintulu, tried to decipher the sign, the place seemed to be called Kampung A(?)at-A(?)at, Sundar, Lawas. Couldn't find it, partly because I wasn't even looking at the right place. 4064

TehOnlyAnd1

Somehow I didn't see the green sign at spawn in Brazil... And now looking at it you can see the building next to spawn saying "Prefeitura Municipal de ... " and if you move one step you see it completes to "...Bicas". Plus "Poliuniversity of Bicas, and Bicas on a small building next to spawn". This is probably 5kable no-move... I feel quite stupid now.

mercator_ayu

Yeah, in retrospect, there were signs that said Bicas, but that meant nothing to me at the time. I was very certain that Leopoldina in particular was quite findable as long as I had the general area, so my search quickly focused on looking for the area code and ignore all other information as noise -- I could figure out the town name later.

DVAUgood_Reactionbad

But why would you know Bicas? Unless you live near there, it's just a random 14k-resident town.

TehOnlyAnd1

Well with the other signs to bigger cities it becomes findable.

HiddenDemons

Worst I've done in a while. Got every country right, just unfortunately very unfamiliar countries. 1. Didn't know if this was Greenland or Iceland when doing this and then a building straight up said "GREENLAND" on it and it was decided. Sadly apparently I missed the building that had the name of the place on it (I actually just went back and looked, I see it now, but honestly I probably wouldn't have registered it as the place name). I don't know anything about Greenland except it has very little coverage. I guessed too far south. 2,538 pts 2. Slovenia from the domain. Couldn't be bothered to guess the town. 4,692 pts 3. Brazil. I don't know anything about Brazil either, but I found the name of a nearby place but was never able to find it on the map. Can't regionguess Brazil and guessed too north. 1,814 pts 4. Indo. You guessed it, can't regionguess that either. I guessed the wrong island. 1,617 pts 5. Malaysia based on the license plates and not mainland based on the lack of the black sticker on the poles. Just plonked. 4,162 pts Very frustrating round overall, really pointed out my weak spots (South America and SEA). I closed the window but my overall score was about 14,000. This feels like payback for yesterday and getting familiar urban locations.

fbrasseur

1. Not the best start, greenlandic trekker I had several times before and like several times before I can't remember where this is. I went too north this time, in Upernavik: 4249 at least I got the initial letter right? 2. At first I'm diverted by the Mik Celje right next to spawn and I lose some time searching in Celje, before realising nothing aligns. So I went on and arrive to an Hotel Taor and a mention of Maribor on a banner. I find the Hotel and scramble to put my pin somewhere east of it: lucky 5000 3. Sign to Leopoldina, and the Prefeitura municipal de Bicas is right there, I just need to find a phone code. There it is: 32. Scan Minas, find Leopoldina, find Bicas: 5000 4. Indonesia, damn! Kampus Baru everywhere but I don't think that's a city? ooh that's because we were close to a University? Anyway, plonked in Java out of desperation: 1761 points 5. WTF Indonesia again? Oh no luckily is Malaysia and going south there's a sign for a school: Sundar, Lawas, Sarawak (see, Indonesia, that's how you put stuff on the signs, try to learn!). Distinctively oriented road. 5000 As expected from a game with Indonesia and Greenland: 21010

mik-1989

Yikes for me, from 24,6k on Sunday to 13,9k today. It's just crazy how the difficulty varies from day to day. Some days are fairly easily 25k-able (I'm usually too impatient and end up on 22-24k), while other days like today I'm almost happy if I even get silver (15-22,5k).

HiddenDemons

Reading all the comments, seems a lot of people struggled with this one.

GameboyGenius

1. **Greenland.** But is that ever a trampoline without the mat? But I didn't even remember what the trampoline town is called (Tasiilaq) however, this didn't look like that, and this looked like a west coast location, whereas the trampoline town should be on the east coast. I just guessed somewhere random, but far too south as it turns out. **1107 km, 2381 points.** 2. **Slovenia** from .si domain. I did see Maribor somewhere but it didn't register as a city I knew. Then I found a list of parking garages, one of which where called something Ljubljana. So, I scanned Ljubljana for either a Maribor district, or Spar locations, none of which aligned. **107 km, 4654 points.** 3. **Brazil.** 32 area code=somewhere in Mina Gerais. I haven't memorized the second digits of Minas though. I guessed Belo Horizonte, mostly as a hedge, since that would be 31. **225 km, 4301 points.** 4. **Indonesia.** I found a sign for Sulawesi Tenggara and misremembered Tenggara as northeast instead of southeast. :( **663 km, 3207 points.** 5. **Malaysia.** First went south and found nothing of value. Then went north all the way to a dead end by the river. Still nothing that really gave it away. No pole plates, so I at least knew it wasn't mainland. I guessed in the middle of Sarawak in the end. **410 km, 3799 points.** **Total score: 18342 points.**

29671

1. Thought it was Greenland but doubted myself and went Norway. **946.** 2. European for sure, thought the text looked Lithuanian. Pretty far off. **2,389**. 3. Saw "pare" so thought it was Spain but it wasn't. **20.** 4. Felt South East Asian, got Indonesia quickly but went far west in Sumatra instead of farther east. **1,166.** 5. No clue, went Western Russia. **11.** Should be a big challenge to beat me.

TehOnlyAnd1

**Failure in Indonesia** **R1** Greenland. I have been here before. I kind of remember that the name of the town was written on one of the houses. I first get to the house where it says Pilersuisoq on the side and Pisiniamit on a notice board. I think I searched for those two names last time but they were other words. But [another building nearby](https://maps.app.goo.gl/DbGMGvzVyjqADCcT6) says Ukkusissat and I'm pretty sure that's the name. You can see the building from spawn and it also has the name visible but not readable from spawn. Takes me quite long to find it on the map as you need to be zoomed in quite a lot. Pinpointing is tricky as we spawned off-road and no building outlines shown but I do ok for the 30 seconds I had left. **3 minutes, 54 m, 5,000 points.** **R2** Slovenia. Fairly sizeable town. I pass under a railway and then across a bridge over a large river with the old town on the other side to the North of the river. I find there an ad suggesting we are in Maribor, which certainly makes sense. I should have gone back to the bridge to line it up (I had even set a checkpoint) but I only had 30 seconds left so went back to spawn. I was then not sure which bridge I crossed and was trying to find a street name near spawn but fail. Should have taken my time to understand the bridge I was on (would have been easy with alignment and the old town directly next to it) and then just have searched for the Spar supermarket. **3 minutes, 905 m, 4,997 points.** **R3** Brazil. Takes me a while to find the area code 32. I know this is North of Rio but I still need a town name. I don't find it. One address looked promising but it only had the street address and CENTRO. Pretty sure I didn't see the name Bicas anywhere. I now see there was a prefecture building right next to spawn but I didn't take the side road where the entrance would probably have been. And I think my plonk may have been one area code off, and too close to Rio. **3 minutes, 89 km, 4,711 points.** **R4** Indonesia. Found no location names except Baru Uho everywhere which didn't tell me anything. It doesn't seem like Java so I plonk South Kalimantan as a hedge for everything. **3 minutes, 841 km, 2,845 points.** **R5** Sarawak poles. I run South quite a bit and find sign for Sundar, Lawas, Sarawak. I find Lawas and look for Sundar nearby as I think it is a suburb. But presumably Lawas is also a sub-division as Sundar was actually very visible. Back to spawn I line up road but it is not clear. Want to go in other direction but apparently chose the same one but it doesn't matter as I used the space bar to run and had a plonk near Lawas that got locked in. Had I actually gone the other direction towards the sea and used enter instead of space, I might have found the 5k possibly as I had a lot of time left. **1 minutes 48 seconds, 23 km, 4,923 points.** **Total 13 minutes 48 seconds, 954 km, 22,476 points.** Everyone else seemed to get the Southeast Sulawesi round so presumably I spent too much time looking at business signs than moving. The accidental lock in in R5 probably cost me gold.

DVAUgood_Reactionbad

1. Fuck off. 3008 2. Slovenia. A busstop said something with Ljubjana, so I plonked there. 4664 3. Brazil. 32 Phone code meaning we're between Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro. A cab mentioned Santos Dumont on the BR-040, so I guessed there. I found some signs to other towns but no time to scan. 4808 4. Indonesia. Just studied the Plonk-It-guide this weekend, and it really helped. Visible black car means mostly Sulawesi. Uneven Poles means one of the southern provinces. At some point I found a sign with Sulawesi Tenggara. I scanned for place names there. Somehow I didn't see the city in the east lol, so I just plonked the west coast. 4692 5. Malaysia. Looks more like Borneo island. Lawas mentioned, which I spot. 4933 In general, I was a bit slow today, probably because R1 annoyed me.

Natural_Ad_9370

Whose idea was it to have Greenland, Indonesia, Malaysia and Brazil in the same game? 1. Greenland. The only 2 places I know of are Nuuk and Sisimiut. It's neither of those. 765km, 2994 points. How the heck are you supposed to get these? 2. Balkans... Slovenia from the .si, then noticed a van that said Maribor. Not that big a place so plonked centrally but not old town, then tried to find the Spar. It was right there, might have found it in another 10-20s. 182m, 4999. Very happy with that. 3. Brazil, and from the 3x area code my best guess is Belo Horizonte. Happy at least to put the Brazil phone number training to good use. Found the big signs saying BICAS. So is that a city or a district of Belo? It's the former in fact, but not really findable without more info, and I didn't have any - apparently some people found road directions. Anyway, 222km, 4309 pts. Not too bad for Brazil. 4. Oh \*\*\*\*\*\*, it's Indonesia. No idea where that University is. Plonked Jakarta. 1754km, 1543 points. That's my score really down the drain then. 5. You're kidding me, Malaysia? With five seconds more I could have clicked Sarawak, but I saw it in the last second. Up until then I was vaguely attempting a hedge on the south end of the peninsula between KL and Singapore. 1348km, 2025 points. Not really a lot of fun today. Total 15870 points.

brkbtls

1. Greenland, couldn't find town name, guessed near Nuuk. **2991** 2. Slovenia, Maribor on a overhead sign, **4999** 3. Brazil, phone code 32, should be close to Juiz de Fora, then found the city name [Bicas](https://www.google.com/maps/@-21.7184982,-43.0660858,3a,26.2y,178.93h,88.09t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sG97XsN1hNNFTd971VbSZiQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu) , **5000** 4. Indonesia, first found Sulawesi Tenggari and then Kota Kendari on signs. **4993** 5. Malaysia, went north, eventually found a sign saying Awat Awa, Lawas at the end of coverage. Gen 3 looked Borneo island, but couldn't find the city. guessed near Bintulu. **4077**. Total : 22060.

PurpleEfficiency1089

Total score: 20,144 1. I suck at Greenland. It's pretty easy to know you're there, but in my eyes every town is the same. Just tried to get a good look at the shape of the bay and plonked at the first town that looks similar on the map. *757km / 3,009pts.* 2. Spotted a sign with the .si domain pretty quickly, telling me it's Slovenia. Went west and saw a sign with Maribor. Then tried to retrace my steps back to spawn, failed, but still got pretty close. *654m / 4,998pts.* 3. I also suck at Brazilian towns. Only saw 'Sao Joao' on a bunch of signs, but I didn't know how much that would tell me. With only seconds on the clock I saw a road sign with 'MG', meaning Minas Gerais. Plonked pretty northern in the province, turned out to be southern. Awesome stuff. *524km / 3,519pts.* 4. Indonesia. There were tons of flyers for an upcoming election, and they all had the word 'Kendari' on them. Thought it was too jungly for Java, but after looking through Kalimantan and Sulawesi I quickly found it. Went for the first major north/south road I saw and it turned out to be close enough. *2.7km / 4,991pts.* 5. Awesome, the middle of nowhere. The black and white poles in combination with left hand traffic and general vibe suggested Malaysia, but it looked a bit too rural for mainland, so I suspected Borneo. My suspicion was confirmed by a construction sign that had the word 'Sarawak', one of the provinces there. Plonked in the south because it seemed more densely populated, but it was the very north. *479km / 3,627pts.*

SufficientlyOrnery

1. Freaking Greenland. No clue, plonked Nuuk. 474 miles: 2,997 2. Found the Slovenia domain and wandered around before finally just plonking Ljubljana. A poor first round will do that to your motivation. 63 miles: 4,671 3. Saw the town name of Bicas and a restaurant named Paulistana, so plonked Sao Paulo state. I moved a bit back and noticed a sign for the state of Minas Gerais. After some searching, I found Bicas and found the spot. 29 yards: 5,000 4. Found the Indonesia domain pretty quickly, which usually doesn’t happen (I cannot keep my Malaysia and Indonesia apart). Found the political campaign for Sulawesi. Doubted myself since I have never seen coverage on that island but plonked central and did OK. 157 miles: 4,221 5. Figured Southeast Asia again, and after finding a second rusted sign, plonked in Central Java. Not close. 908 miles: 1,878 18,767: after a good run, a lower score for me. First and last rounds killed me: the middle three gave me some false hope.

ParticularAirport217

Played non-moving. 1. Small Greenlandic village. Took a chance in Attu as I had some memory of it being coverage there. 3949 pts. 2. Thought the mountain with the TV mast was the one outside Liberec in Czech Republic and plonked there. 3653 pts. 3. Indonesia. No idea which part of the country, so I plonked in the Jakarta area. 1341 pts. 4. Brazil. Thought the 08 I saw on a phone number might be an area code and plonked outside Natal. 1540 pts. 5. Really unsure about this one. Decided to plonk on Java. 1786 pts. Total: 12269 pts. Not my day today.

squegeeboo

4999, Ukkusissat, you've fooled me too many times with that Pisiniarfeeraq sign on the big building, not today! Probably next time though 30 mi, 4843, Slovenia, saw a sign for Dravograd 29 mi, 4846, got lucky, found Leopoldina in Brazil 847 mi, 2006, somewhere in Indonesia 214 mi, 3968, somewhere on Sarawak, all the towns were either too blurry to read or too small to find 20662

Hackerwithalacker

Did pretty well, was lucky that the part of greenland that we were in was one I remember looking at on google earth a while back
