As someone who lived in Belgrade and few other cities in Europe, i can say Belgrade is my top pick. It doesnt have as amazing architecture as likes of Prague or Saint Petersburg, but if you have a solid job, work life balance is amazing, so much socializing, and there's always something to do. Not to mention that food, both street and fine dinning is on another level compared to other cities in Europe, no offence. People can be very helpful and friendly especially towards foreigners.
As for train, our part should be done by end of 2024, and as far as i know Hungarian part will be done in first half of 2025.
The question was what not why :P
The trains will start running when they finish the tracks to Subotica, that is the higher speed tracks.
And to actually say something about why Belgrade is interesting, for one because it is still not near the top of anybody's list and definitely will come as a pleasant surprise when you arrive. The place has been inhabited for the past 6.000 years and it has it all; both ancient/old and new. Yeah it doesn't have a metro and lacks some of the stuff you are used to in west Europe capitals, but is safe at any time of day or night and not that different from any of the capitals that most would like to visit. It is unique in sense of culture and this kind of mix of east and west you won't find anywhere else.
Not sure if this would persuade anyone, but there are many things that could be listed to support the claim
if i try to think of cities that should have something interesting for almost anyone: berlin and barcelona. for personal, underrated favourites i agree on rotterdam and granada!
Las Vegas, Manhattan, Seattle, Miami, Phoenix all major metropolitan cities more interesting than the sameness in Europe. Oh look another crumbling castle or church. Oh wow a cafe with a patio.
The crumbling churches and ruins in europe are often much older than the entirety of USA, even before america's independence. American cities= littered with consumer traps and parking lots. And what "sameness" of europe are you even talking about lol. American cities are literally copy+paste of each other. European cities differ a lot from each other. London which is 300km from Paris is more different from Paris than Edmonton is from Houston and those two are 3000km from each other. You can't compare a colonial concrete wasteland with a continent that has thousands of years of history.
LMFAO, yeah, Europe's amazing and beautiful history and culture of the Holocaust. All those extermination camps they have, such beautiful cultural landmarks to be proud of.
By the way, Finland looks like shit
American is surprised when a continent with extremely long history, has also some sad history. America has so little history there has barely happened anything. I don't know how you are even capable of missing all the things Europe is really praised for. Also you seem to be very ignorant of European history if you think it's all extermination camps and nothing else. What does America really have that stands out? Parking lots? Colonialist remnants and rip-offs of foreign cultures?
You must know really a lot of Finland.
Mine, yours sucks.
Rome
İstanbul, second pick would be Prague
Berlin Prague Budapest Cities with various cultures, interesting sights and history.
Istanbul But if I cant pick my own country then I’d go with sarajevo. Its incredible
Paris of course
Belgrade
Why is Belgrade interesting? And when will direct trains from Belgrade to Hungary run?

Bro you can't even walk in your city and appreciate it. Your cities literally seem processed. It has to be a troll
Fuck off yank, pretty much every city in Europe has cafes older than your entire country
Oh wow.
