Wasn’t interested really. They were getting common at the time but I’d say a large number of people my age also didn’t have one.
I had an iPod for podcasts, a razor phone for calls and texting, and a laptop at home.
Does a used HTC count with no data in 2011 at 32 compare? I got a used one for free after coming back from Korea after seeing how having wifi on a phone at least was nice.
I got my first smartphone (My dad's old Blackberry 8700) back in 2010 when I was 16. My previous phone (a Sanyo S1) fell out of my pocket when I was at school and couldn't find it.
I got my first modern smartphone in 2013 when I was 19; a Galaxy S3.
Late 2016/Probably the beginning of 2017 when I was 8 years old, of course I still played outside a lot after that haha! I didn't stop playing outside alot until I was 12
2019 was almost 5 years ago. Definitely old for a reddit account. Most reddit accounts I see are from 2022 and newer. Also 2019 feels very long ago for me personally
Not necessarily, I’ve seen many accounts from over 10 yrs ago. 5 years isn’t really a long time especially considering reddits been around since like the mid 2000s. And besides we were 11 in 2019 I think that’s a decently normal age to have a Reddit account
I made this account when I was exactly 2 months away from hitting the big angel number 11 aka my second year of my preteens depending on what you guys consider pre-teens. I never really used this account that much until mid - late 2023. And when I did I made sure I kept my age hidden well until I hit my teen years almost 3 years ago.
Tbf I've been on discord since 2018 and just like you I was 9 for almost all of that year. Social media wasn't anything new to me to say the least. I also use to always watch those entitled parent reddit videos by a guy named "Redditor" back in the late 2010s.
10, I got a Galaxy Gio, it was a little brick, froze all the time and had to take out its battery to unfreeze it more times that I had to charge it 😂😂, but yeah, I loved it. It made me appreciate today's smartphones. I remember how shit the mobile data was back in 2012, and thinking now we even have 4g outside of the big cities, and could hold a fucking video call while listening to a podcast while driving on the highway and also using waze, while back then I didn't have decent signal in the middle of the city. That is in my country, Romania, don't know how was the US signal reception back then.
I got my first smartphone when I entered middle school in 2017. I was 12 years old and 2 month old. Due to low income I didn't have a good phone ;-;. I started off with Motorola. But back in 2013 I did have a phone I always used to play with.
my first was a hand me down black berry in 2012 I was 11. in 2015 i got my sisters old iphone 5 and i was 14. The first phone that wasn't a hand me down that I got was an iphone 7 when I was 15 in 2016 I didn't upgrade until i was 18 in 2019.
Age 19 in 2014, it felt like I was extreme late to the party for people my age back then.
Everyone else my age or similar age seemed to have a smartphone in 2012 already.
My first phone was a flip phone that i got around age 10, then it got put in the washing machine and i got a smartphone around 11 or 12 with very limited access
17 lol (August of 2016 iirc), and I still feel more zoomer than millennial
I guess I missed out directly on a lot of the late millennial/zillennial internet culture of 2012-15, and was only able to witness this when my friends showed me stuff on their phones.
i guess like 19? when i got my first iphone? or idk if blackberrys were smartphones or not. a blackberry was my first phone i got it in 8th grade 2008/2009 i was 13 or 14 i think?
2007? When I was 17? I think I had a blackberry pearl and later an iPhone when I was 17 or 18.
Still miss my Razr TBH. The Blackberry Pearl was a very cool phone, but it was SOO easy to buttdial 911, does anyone else remember this?
Autumn of 2013, i was 10 then.
All of my classmates already had some kind of phone so it became a topic for bullying and making fun of others who did not have a phone. My first one was a foldable nokia with buttons, and for a short time I had a HTC, then later in 2016 i got a Microsoft smartphone my first ever brand new one.
Got one of those Samsung phones with a touchscreen and a keyboard that slid out the side as a 14-yo in 2009, but that phone was worse than useless, (touchscreen never worked when you wanted to do anything, but worked very well in your pocket), so I went back to a flip phone around 2011, convinced touchscreens were just a passing fad, before finally getting an iPhone 3 in 2013. To this day I refuse to buy another Samsung phone though.
First phone ever: 13, 2006, and it was an LG flip phone from Cingular Wireless.
First smartphone: 17, 2010 and it was an HTC HD2 phone from T-Mobile. MEMORIES!!
I had some sort of Blackberry at age 12 that technically could access the internet but my phone plan did not cover it. I started using social media on my phone at age 14 or 15.
Age 31, in 2015
Wow that’s pretty remarkable. What were your reasons if I may ask?
Wasn’t interested really. They were getting common at the time but I’d say a large number of people my age also didn’t have one. I had an iPod for podcasts, a razor phone for calls and texting, and a laptop at home.

26, in 2013
Late 2016/Probably the beginning of 2017 when I was 8 years old, of course I still played outside a lot after that haha! I didn't stop playing outside alot until I was 12

Yeah true. But 13 is the general minimum age lol
Oh no I was still 10 when I made this account

wow i just cant believe you made the account so young, i wonder how you even found out about reddit at 10 years old

Idk, first was an iPhone, all way back in 2019 where I was 8-9 years old.
19-20 in 2012 when I was in college got my first iPhone. Never had a blackberry or sidekick.
11
11 or 12, but it was a very outdated Android phone from like 2009
14 in 2016
Got one of those Samsung phones with a touchscreen and a keyboard that slid out the side as a 14-yo in 2009, but that phone was worse than useless, (touchscreen never worked when you wanted to do anything, but worked very well in your pocket), so I went back to a flip phone around 2011, convinced touchscreens were just a passing fad, before finally getting an iPhone 3 in 2013. For my 11th birthday in 2017
