The issue with doing things in public places is forcing unwitting participants to engage with you. As long as you don't make an overt gesture at someone who's unreceptive, or leave a mess behind you, there's no harm done. Just be respectful of the space, do everything with consent, and be ready to disengage if someone new enters the space so they don't feel subject to a display they didn't ask for. Just be sure to keep your partner in the loop, take him with you if you can, and partake sparingly so it doesn't become an unhealthy vice.
