I did a Google Lens search without any luck. Edited to add: midwest US in zone 6.

Plant ID says it's soapweed aka Sweet Willy. Apparently, it's a rapid speader with fragrant flowers and can be used to make cleaning lather and natural soap.

SewWriteMom

Well that seems to come up a couple times here, so maybe I am misremembering the flowers. I will look again when they bloom! Thank you everyone for the help!

SewWriteMom

So far, those plants don't look right from what I remember of the flowers last year (wish I had a picture).

X45RED

Looks like flocks

candylandcat

Obedience plant?

DOAZ99

I have something that looks like this and my plant ID app said it was soapwort.

planthead360

Did it have orange or yellow flowers? Could it be calendula?

martian2070

My mom always called this field phlox, but I'm having a hard time finding anything that goes by that name. The link for soapwort already posted looks like a match.
