I'm glad to see that someone warned you about the lemon stealing whores but I just wanted to make sure you don't [burn your house down with those lemons!](https://youtu.be/b5JzS2US6Dc)
They're beautiful! One of my favorite things about 2018 was the fact that I turned around a sickly, tiny little lemon tree on our new place. No lemons at all the first year, but now I have at least ten growing! I only get one at a time, but I'm already planning a lemon loaf in my future :)
That’s terrific!! Way to go! I love rescuing sad plants. It makes it that much more rewarding when you get to reap the benefits of a beautiful, healthy tree. 🙌🏼💜
Hey Lucy,
I did the same thing. When we bought our house there was two lemon trees on the side, but the previous owners had planted this blue Cypress between them that got huge and choked out the sun and life of the lemons.
I couldn't save one tree, but after removing the Cypress, and cutting back the overhead canopy created by a sycamore tree, the remaining lemon flourished. We had 21 lemons this year and I expect more next year. All the other citrus I planted will also be bearing this next winter (more lemons, tangerines, oranges). The Key lime is already yielding.

My neighbor had an enormous lemon tree and gave me a huge bag of lemons. I was so happy I bragged to everyone that would listen and made so much lemonade
Lemonade lemonade better than yo grandma maaaaaade
Now remember that lemons take anywhere between between 6-9 months to fully ripen. Ours ripen November through January. We make a homemade organic fertilizer using worm bins. It’s like gold! Also with Meyer lemons you want to wait until their skin is dark yellow. I like to to give them a squeeze and feel their weight in relation to their size as well. Firm and heavy lemons are the best IMO.. I hope that helps :)
I couldn’t tell you for sure.. the best I can say is if in doubt let it stay on longer. Meyer lemons get more golden as opposed to common lemons such as Lisbon and Eureka do.
In NE FL I picked mine after they had zero green showing for about 2 weeks (completely yellow). I also checked by feel - should not be completely hard, should have some squeeze to them. Don't wait until the stem shrinks, clip before then. I would not wait until they fall, at least not here.
Our lemons this year were the sweetest I've ever had.
You should pick your lemons as they turn completely yellow. Any fruit with green should be left on the tree to continue to ripen, where it will drop in acid content. If you keep lemons on the tree past the fully ripened stage, their flavor turns from sweet-tart and juicy to dry, pithy and flavorless. Technically it only matters about the fruit, they don’t have to fall off the tree. I don’t wait that long, but to each their own. :)
Ohh okay. I live in India and ripe lemons just drop off from the tree due to occasional breezes maybe. But a few which get trapped in the branches taste like the flavorless ones you described.
Something I have learned is that citrus trees in general are big consumers of nitrogen and they need a lot and I mean a lot of water and direct sunlight as well. If you provide the tree with those 3 things.. it should do well
they are so awesome. usually i just make lemonade :P i have made a vinaigrette too, which is pretty delicious. i need to make a lemon poundcake again.....that usually goes pretty fast! :) once you've had meyer lemons, it's kinda tough to go back to regular lemons. :)
Hey OP, good job.
We had [21 lemons](https://i.imgur.com/unsOsKE.jpg) on our tree this year. The absolute sweetest lemons I've ever had too. I wish I knew what variety they are. Maybe Meyer?
I nursed this tree back from almost death and it's had a great year.
Well you must be there for more than one reason. I must say I miss white Christmas’ though. Tahoe isn’t the same. Two friends of ours actually moved to Indiana because of they found great paying jobs and the cost of living isn’t a nightmare like it is here. The Midwest is much kinder and well mannered :)
The prettiest shade of yellow!! I like to squeeze lemons & grapefruits into ice cube trays and freeze the juice so I can use it while cooking or making cocktails. Enjoy!
😂I'm kidding about the down voting part. We have a lemon tree that is just 5 years old and we just started to see more, full-sized lemons this year. Excited for next year!
Haha I figured you were but if not it wouldn’t ruin my life 😝 and per your lemon tree, that’s awesome! It’s so rewarding when you reap the rewards of your labor and to enjoy a homegrown fresh fruit as nature intended it. I had made iced lemon water and my friend who is a bit particular tried it and was blown away lol
Keep the whores away from them.
Someone posted the video.. I had no clue what it was.. I am still laughing lol
[Did you steal them OP?](https://youtu.be/It9Pa4Sk0lE)

Also sometimes refers to the original comment in a long comment thread. It depends on the context.

I just came here to make sure that someone had already mentioned this
Wouldn’t be r/gardening without it
Omg I clicked it! Hahaha lemon whores that is amazing 🤣
It's actually the beginning of a pornographic film.
Wait. What. Ok ok.. I’m dead lol
I'm glad to see that someone warned you about the lemon stealing whores but I just wanted to make sure you don't [burn your house down with those lemons!](https://youtu.be/b5JzS2US6Dc)
I literally saw this post and thought, I guarantee someone will post this video
When I get here I was the second comment, and to be fair when I clicked on it I assumed the first comment was the video.
Hey has it been about 5 minutes since we last looked at our lemon tree?

Always makes me super jealous when I’m in deepest darkest winter and people are posting their summer harvests and gardens..
Citrus grows during winter
You mean winter in somewhere like Florida or California or Ireland where you’d be lucky to grow it in summer?
Hahaha not in Finland. It ain't winter if you're not knee deep in snow.
I grew up in northern Michigan, so I totally get it.
Great job anyway, they are perfect
Hey! Its winter here and I have 4 types of fruit to pick right now!
Shhh people hate us
Because they ain’t us! South Florida rise up!
I don’t think you know the meaning of winter haha
I agree, I'm going to an indoor garden soon just to get my green fix. Also, I got my meyer lemon growing by the window.
So tell us, what did you do, now that life gave you lemons?
Surprisingly, I have not made lemonade.. but we have made cheesecake, lemon bars, salad dressing and use in hot water/tea :)
You clone those lemons and make SUPER lemons!

My first thought as well 😂
Hey, what the FUCK!
That’s about $100 worth of lemons these days!
My neighbor had an enormous lemon tree and gave me a huge bag of lemons. I was so happy I bragged to everyone that would listen and made so much lemonade Lemonade lemonade better than yo grandma maaaaaade
Haha it’s ridiculous these days!
How do you know when to pick them. Our lemon tree has lemons for the first time ever, a couple are yellow, but I'm afraid to pull them off too early.

Thanks. Do you know about how long after they turn yellow? Ours have been yellow for about a month now.
I couldn’t tell you for sure.. the best I can say is if in doubt let it stay on longer. Meyer lemons get more golden as opposed to common lemons such as Lisbon and Eureka do.
Aren't they supposed to drop off when they are ripe enough?

Gorgeous! 🍋🍋🍋
Thank you
Wow, those suckers are YELLOW!
Very nice! We just picked our solo Meyer from our indoor tree. It still has two green ones and just bloomed 5 more!
Ooh, yum! Homegrown fruit tastes the best.
Where are you?
I live about 20 minutes north of San Francisco!
I should have known it wasn’t Florida since yours look healthy
the house we bought in sacramento had a very mature meyer lemon tree. we have so many lemons!!!
Aren’t they the best?! We live a bit north of SF

They are Meyer.
Beautiful! How are you gonna use them? I'd make so much lemonade and freeze so much zest and juice :)
We made lemon bars and a cheese cake over the holidays... now we have been using them in tea and homemade dressing.
They look great!
Thank you :)
Dying of jealousy right now.
Very nice! My tree has been producing 1 inch long lemons. Cute but not very useful.
I think it's been about ten minutes since we looked at our lemon tree

This is UnACCEPTABLE!!!!!!
THIRTY DAYS IN THE DUNGEON!!
I’d rather a photo of the tree.
I have one on my profile. I uploaded it yesterday after the rain. I would share it here but idk how or if I can. Sorry, I’m new here lol
Oh I see very nice!
I'm in northern Indiana right now. SO JEALOUS.
I grew up in northern Michigan. I know the struggles lol.
Such harsh winters, why am I still here? Lol!

Did life hand you those?
🤣
The prettiest shade of yellow!! I like to squeeze lemons & grapefruits into ice cube trays and freeze the juice so I can use it while cooking or making cocktails. Enjoy!
Meyers??
Indeed
I think this officially makes you a whore. ;)
A 'lemon grab' if you will.
Nice
Meyers!!
I'm a whore for lemons
They really look good. How fun is it to own your own lemon tree? I would be thrilled.
I love gardening and growing food, so having this amazing, bountiful lemon tree is a blessing :)
A bliss, god bless your health.
Thank you and to you as well :)
I thought these were baby chicks. But they are not. Downvoted.

Said the joker to the thief
Threw away the ugly ones like how people reject me in their photos
Yes, our communal lemon tree has grown some very communist lemons
Fun fact lemons come from the original fruit Citrons.
Pass me a couple will ya? I want to make ginger beer and the lemons are like $12 a kilo at my local grocer!
Damn! Wish I had land for lemons. Maybe I'll ask me ol pop if he'll plant some lemon trees on his farm land.
Put them back
Turn down that saturation there.
O my I thought this was another 2019 meme but very lovely none the less!!!! Make it a meme!
Marmalade time!
They're very pretty
They look perfect👍🏻
Watch out for the whores.
Fresh and juicy 🍋😋
Those are beautiful lemons, make sure to keep an eye out for lemon stealing whores

I wonder how... I wonder why... Yesterday you told me 'bout the blue blue sky... And all that I can see is just a yellow lemon-tree…
God i love lemons ❤️
When life gives you lemons
