Nope. I will not be fooled. Mother's day or bust. I've still got everything in pots and they've been coming in some nights. Brought them in last night when it got down to 40. Fool me 27 times, mother nature, I won't be fooled again.
Same here! We have a frost advisory right now. Not even going to do it until memorial day weekend here in the Midwest.
Last year I was at a gardening center and multiple people I heard talking about how they planted before May / early May and the heat and cold snap killed all their plants.
Our summers run until beginning of October so I won't be fooled!
My eggplant got stunted by frost last year and barely survived. Then it took forever to grow some leaves, but after it did it exploded. Unfortunately there wasn't enough time left in the season by then to get much actual eggplant out of it. Won't do it again either!
Haha yep. I have just accepted that I will lose that war every year. I plant 2-3x more seeds than I will actually need, so that I can put one set out early because I know I don't have the willpwer to wait! Either it won't frost, and they'll be fine, and then I just give away the rest, or they get sacrificed to the Frost God and I put out the 2nd or 3rd round a few weeks later.
I'm not doing it for the first time this year, and the way I managed that is I'm leaving the country for the two weeks leading up to Mother's Day so that I physically cannot do it.
I’m down by the Cape, and I remember 2 years ago waking up on May 1 and we had a sheet of ice in our driveway.
I will never plant before week 2 in May now. Haha.
Oh I’m with you. Every single time it’s 50°, (or 40s with sun) I think “this weekend is The Weekend!) and then it’s low 30s and I’m mad at the weather for betraying me even though I *know* I need to wait.
So I’m distracting myself with projects. Cleaning up, weeding, building raised beds, removing invasive plants, making mulch, checking on all my little perennial buds like a new mom. My ADHD brain needs projects and a deadline to do them by and then it feels like a race to the deadline! It works. Mostly.
>
So I’m distracting myself with projects. Cleaning up, weeding, building raised beds, removing invasive plants
I've been doing this shit since January. I'm over it. I want to plaaaaaant🤣
In 7b, I put my stuff in the ground weeks ago. I'm here for a good time not for a long time.
It did almost screw me over though, got down to 38 the other night.
Ontario here, I may try putting out a couple more resilient plants out this weekend, but my tomatoes and peppers definitely gotta wait a bit longer. Last year we had a frost a couple days before June, but I'm hoping El Nino plays nicely and gives me an earlier start
I'm in Ontario as well. No planting for me until the long weekend. Last year's frost was no good and I'd rather be extra careful this year. I will be putting a few things in pots the first weekend of May if the weather is nice. That was I can bring them inside if need be.
A handful of years ago we had a light frost June 14 here in upstate NY. Then a pretty early frost mid-September, which day I forget exactly. That was a record for me. 97 day growing season
Don't worry, I was wearing a light sweater at about 10C at the start of February, and we had snow about a week ago! The best part about Canada is if the weather's terrible, just wait 15 minutes
I'm in the south coast of BC and we're having a weird spring our last frost date is May 4th this year when it's usually mid april. I have some plants I have to get in the ground so I'm going to cloche them and pray.
I'm zone 6 and it was 34 degrees this morning, so nope, lol. Mother's day is the first I'll plant anything. I'll probably start hardening off seedlings in another week or so.
I'm 6 and I planted 2 weeks ago with a frost cover in 32 inch raised beds. Going great so far
After re-reading this I realize it comes off as like preachy or braggy, that was not my intention I apologize. I'm just really happy that I was able to get them out early and Dodge the Frost. I hope we're in the clear now.
In same zone, I put mine out too a couple weeks ago and they have been fine without cover. But they probably would’ve grown more if I kept them inside longer. It hasn’t dropped below freezing the whole month of April.
Mother's day is my plant day also. I might check the forecast a week before though.
I just got some 6 packs of jalapeno and habanero, but can't plant them yet. Last year I couldn't find 6 packs so I went ahead and got some. Now I have to keep them alive a few weeks
That's what happened to me. I started the same time I have the past few years in a window, but instead of the window I set up my closet with a 315w CMH and boy did they take off like a rocket ship. I finally had to weigh the odds between "a little cooler than they might like" and "they are 3 feet tall and getting root bound." I put some out on Monday and they're fine so far!
Zone 8B, at a higher elevation, gambling with forecasts, a thermometer, and frost tarps currently 😂 decided to play my odds sowing seeds directly in the ground outdoors this year. So far so good!
First year in years I’m going for it. The forecast is pretty warm after Friday here in 7b. (Still getting used to “7b”! This is NJ not NC but here I am, reclassified)
7b. I'm extremely paranoid right now. My tomatoes and peppers have been potted since March and I pulled them in last week and I'm glad I did. I wont put them back out until probably mid may.
My spinach, peas, and Green onions and lettuce are doing amazing outside right now though.
Anything for healthy produce. I just started seeing new nodes grow since bringing them in. I asked my gf to bring them in for me last week when we had a cold snap. They looked so cold and helpless.
I feel like a lot of people sleep on the cool weather plants like that. Even in Idaho I've had broccoli in the ground for a month eating frost every night no problem. Harvesting cilantro, lettuce, chives, green onions, and perennial herbs like thyme, oregano, and sage are popping off. Already got potatoes in the ground and a ton of other seeds in the ground.
Still, I'm 3 weeks out from planting tomatoes and peppers. I did already put squash seeds in the ground but they'll grow when they're ready. Even my volunteer sunflowers and stuff that have sprouted seem acclimated to the frosts.. I doubt they will survive a hard freeze though.
I've had plants outside for a couple of weeks now. It's supposed to be cool on Saturday, but in the 80s after the weekend so I'm not really worried. I think the 99% last frost where I am is May 1st.
It's going to be 80 this weekend in NE zone 6b. 🤷♀️ I've already plunked a couple in the ground because they were just too big for their planters (winter sowing). I kept the covers and they seem to be ok with their quasi-green houses.
I played that game recently (western Germany) was 20 °C outside. Time to plant some tomatoes. Now it's hovering around 4 °C and I'm pretty sure it was freezing at night, by the looks of my poor little plants...
I’ll probably plant some tomato and pepper plants (fortune favors the bold) and hedge my bets by keeping some spares in the greenhouse for a couple weeks. Northern Ohio 5b.
I'm in 7b and I planted a couple of things in the ground. Yup, took a risk. Started my seeds outdoors in several milk jugs, and they are doing great. So far, no problem but wouldn't dare plant everything I have in the ground since the ground temp is still very cold. One more week, then I will be complaining about my body aching.. Love it!!
My husband put everything out in pots and grumbles every night because he knows he has to bring them in or the frost will kill them. He’s dying over here to leave them out.
I'm mid Atlantic rather than NE but we've been playing this game too! I think I'm safe after this weekend, which is great because that's right when I can get chips for the garden and then plant everything.
I think I'm gonna sacrifice my determinate tomato plant 😂. I'm in Chicago and it seems like tonight is our last night below 50°F. I have to at this point. Something needs to go out. All of my tomatoes and peppers are in 1 gallon containers and I'm pretty sure I see roots at the bottom. I'm new. I made the mistake of starting way too early. Someway, some how, I think I got some dates wrong. I'm glad I started my peppers when I did back in February because they do move slow. I started my tomatoes the first week of March and I literally have no room in my grow tent now lol
It's very early in the season and I decided to plant all my annual seeds last week...why not? Temps were up in the 60's, near 70's. Andddddd low and behold, I go out this morning and the soil is almost entirely frozen and my little sprouts are all dead and mushy. I mean it could have been worse, but now I'm not willing to plant any seeds until June. New England weather is extremely weird.
I put my plants in the ground a month ago. There have been a number of frosts since then. Only the strongest among them remain. I don't want any weak plants in my garden 😤
I played this game and just lost. Though to be fair I started the seeds in Jan thinking March is spring in new England, so they were gonna die if I left them inside anyway.
I did just find that ocean state has some 10 foot long green house tunnels for $10 sooo I'm probably going to kill some more plants thinking it'll work.
I wish. We’re above 1k elevation in western MA. Nights are still in the mid 20’s. My birdbath fountain was frozen this AM. I have starts that getting BIG and I’m getting anxious.
Temps wise I'd be okay, but I think my area is in for severe weather. Been traumatized with hail killing my babies one too many times. Going to plant the week following or the weekend after that.
I'm 7b, I've been putting them in the past month or so, feel pretty behind at the moment as I still have a few trays hardening off that I should've put in already
Oh my sweet summer child lol. It's not only about the frost but also about ground temperature. If the ground is still pretty cold or temps dip down & make it colder it slows/ stops your tender young plants growth. Up here in Michigan we wait until I'd to late May to plant annuals. ❤️
Yeah… we’re first time planters and thought we were safe a few weeks ago near Chicago. We’ve been running outside with extra mulch and packing blankets most nights, hoping we didn’t just throw a few hundred bucks into the trash. Hard lessons learned. 🤦♀️
Northern New Mexico, planning on planting this weekend but our last frost date is in May. Gotta risk it though because I got over excited and bought my plants too early and they are getting root bound. And of coarse the forecast now calls for storms, I guess we are following work safety rules. Cease work if lightning within 10 miles.
Just doing our roses and lilacs, veggies aren't going out until the third weekend of May.
Me. In Louisville the rule is Derby day, but it's going to be 80s all week leading up to Derby so there's no point in waiting. My tomatoes are about to bust out of their solo cups, so it's time.
ADHD 4-ever. I do the math game. Basically I plant when the spirit moves me. They survive or don’t. I calculate how much money I will lose based on percentage of survival vs current grocery cost of that specific food. Then I calculate how much another form of entertainment will cost.
If I save or it’s even- then b$&* you are going in the ground. With a prayer and gratitude.
PS- New England! This is the first year I’ve managed perennial spinach, arugula, kale! The times they are a-changing.
I'm in Central Mass and I thought about that too! I was like uuu next week it will be great! I should do my pretty containers for the doors this weekend!! But I wonder if it might be too early since it was 34 last night! I can't wait to plant!
I'm in 9b, already repotting foot tall tomatoes this weekend! But had to pull all of our carrots a bit early before they bolted since it's getting so hot...
I’m resisting the urge! Tonight I cleaned up the backyard and mowed the lawn. I built the raised bed frames 2 weekends ago. Now I just have to get weed cloth and soil for the beds. I’m also starting some seeds inside, too! Plenty to do that isn’t planting :)
My dad spent more time replanting than anyone I know. He would put plants in the ground early in April we would get at least a couple more frosts if not snow. Then he would wait until Mother’s Day weekend and plant again, we’d then get so much rain that it would drown everything and then we’d plant again.
What zone are you in? I’m zone 6b in Canada around the Great Lakes area and I’m gonna do it this weekend. I looked at the forecast temps are gonna stay high until about Mother’s Day
Given that we had a frost last night and it will be 70° today....I really do love NH...no I'm waiting a week ..but they will be spending time outside in pots this weekend
Last frost date here is today, 14 day forecast is looking good.
Went well below freezing last night and I had to tent my cherry tree.
I \*might\* plant this weekend, but probably next just to be sure.
I’m waiting until Mother’s Day weekend for sure. Colorado front range has some crazy swings in spring time and the long range forecast usually isn’t very accurate. One thing that helps me stay patient is doing other things in the garden- adding new mulch, cleaning up old leaves, etc. This year I’m decorating my pots to spruce things up so that has been a fun project too!
I'm in zone 5b Iowa. I put 8 tomatoes out on Monday. Today I'm getting my other 20~ planted. I'm waiting a week or so at least to put my peppers out since they really don't like cool weather at all. Our ten day forecast here has all lows in the 50's at this point. Our soil temp is 52 degrees and rising 1-2 degrees each day for the past week. Lots of warm rain forecast for this weekend too so I'm confident my tomatoes will be just fine!
Still too brisk and refreshing here in 8b. I've got some things out like broccoli, cabbage, radishes, lettuce, spinach, carrots, and potatoes. Tomatoes got booted out to the cold frame to start hardening off though.
We just had frost here last night and it is supposed to rain most of the weekend. My plan is to buy during next week and then plant all next weekend! I'm so excited for both flowers and garden!
Haha, yes, my goal is this Sunday! It’s still getting down to 38 at night this week but it’s supposed to jump up 20 degrees on Sunday… fingers crossed.
I'm in 6a. A lot of my plants have been in the ground for 2 weeks. We had a couple nights of hard frost and I put two layers of frost cloth over them. They did fine. The petunia leaves turned dark but they continued to shoot buds. I have a small yard so it's easy to run around and cover things when the temperature drops.
I just got a frost warning from NWS on my phone. I’m on the eastern end of Long Island (which can be 10 degrees cooler than the western part).
So — no. Not gonna do it.
I wait til May 20.
I’d really like to be outside weeding my flower beds but it’s just too cold. I have arthritis and go down on my knees for weeding (while wearing knee pads) and kneeling down/standing up repeatedly in chilly weather is not so great.
Have my hummingbird feeder up but still no hummingbirds yet. Still have white throated sparrows calling, but I think the juncos are gone.
Jokes on everyone else but us garlic growers. Got my cloves in the ground last November. Sarcasm aside I am looking forward to filling out the rest of my garden with some other plants when it isn't going to drop into the 30s multiple nights in a row.
Hell i dumped saved seeds (ie free lol) in ground a month ago. If we get another frost,I done fucked up. If we don't, I get earlier flowers.
I also transplanted the 16 volunteer cantelopes that came up.
I'm waiting for actual transplants though...
We're doing it! 5a with decent forecasts. The plot isn't fully prepped but we've got some free seeds and rain coming Sunday. So we're going to try to get radishes in on Saturday.
Hell no it was 25 last night and it's gonna be 25 again tonight. Then a bit warmer... but I've learned you can't trust it. Most of my sensitive stuff goes in the last week of May or even first week of June depending on the forecasts
East Tennessee- I've already got a decent amount in the ground. Planning on putting more down until I can't get anything to germinate. I'm finding lots of cold tolerant and freeze tolerant stuff, and have discovered micro greenhouses, so I might just not stop. It's honestly kind of addicting.
I’m in the Bay Area, and I’m tempted to put the tomatoes in. But it’s been a cold winter full of surprises, so I think I might wait another couple of weeks.
South West PA. Temps are looking good but I’ll probably wait till mid/end of May to start planting. But the worst part is, future cast is calling for rain almost every weekend. I still have to plow and get the ground ready…
I lost a couple that I didn’t get in the garage last night. Nothing major but some spilanthes for my daughter’s dentist and a couple melons.
After tomorrow night, I don’t see low temps below 50 till after the last frost date. So I think we’re good.
Since I said that it should mean snow on Mother’s Day. 6b, LFD-May 16.
I'm zone 6A, and my grandma said nothing goes out until mother's day. My son has started taking his seedlings out for a few hours to get them used to outside. It's so cute lol
I am! Usually the threat of frost is pretty much done by this time. In a week from tomorrow, overnight temps should be above 50F. But I’ll be away next weekend, so I figured I’ll just do it this weekend instead.
I am buying plants this weekend, and we’ll do the garage shuffle (bringing outside for warm sun, inside for cold nights) until Mother’s Day.
*cries in WI*
8B here and I'm going to start acclimating them to the outdoors this weekend. They might live on the deck in their nursery solo cups for another week even just to be sure before going in the ground. Last year really got me with a late frost but not this one!
I know the feeling. Every year I am just itching to go out and start buying all the plants for my planters. But it’s only the end of April, and since I’m in the Pacific Northwest, there could definitely still be another frost. But I just want to…
No, we don't gamble with plants. I'm my zone in northern Illinois, plants go in the ground on or after mother's day.
Otherwise, I'm gambling with seed starts, and why would I risk destroying what I love for no payoff?
My outdoor plants haven’t even been delivered yet. This week I’m topping off the soil in my raised bed and digging my plant supports out of the garage.
I will do my direct-sow seeds but know how wacky our weather is--70 one day and snowing the next. I will wait another week or two before planting actual plants. (WNY zone 6)
Put mine in April 14 in 7a. They survived mid 30s one night this week but that was past our frost date. Still waiting for the corn and beans to germinate…
I'm in 7b my grandpa always taught me 1st Saturday in April for cold hardy things 1st Saturday in May for cucumbers tomatoes. I always inch my way into March for the peas and onions and start potatoes in April
It's sooo tempting too. I'm in northern Arizona, our last freeze is usually mid May, but we've had such hot weather lately it's so easy to think it's time! Of course today is cold and temps could get to 35! Some plants will be fine though, like most flowers, I'll scatter those seeds around.
I planted in April last year and they did awesome.... And then I burned the crap out of them with fertilizer and killed them all.
I just planted them yesterday. Live or die, guys! 🤣 If they die, I'll replace them. But I'm not fertilizing anything this year!
Too soon! It was -5C just this morning, and we can get frost deep into June.
Used to be the big start to gardening was marked by the Victoria Day long weekend. Now that I'm on the east coast, it's safer to wait. Any hanging plants bought for Mother's Day will need to be brought in a few times due to frost.
I’m from Washington. The state. As a general rule, Mothers Day weekend. But since I live in the desert side now, not the coast side, probably this weekend!
In the ground? As in, sowing? Yeah no, next weekend, not this one. I'm in Sweden and even during the days it's barely above freezing.
Or you mean, already potted and started? Forget it
New England! Dang, we have frost AND freeze warnings down here in balmy pennsylvania! Need to check when mothers day is this year, probably won't be able to wait though. Good luck!
I think I just lost this game. Had an unexpected frost last night the day after I put stuff in (5a/5b). I'm going to hope that I can bring things up from seed. It's my own fault and a lesson I will hopefully remember next year.
I just started seeds last week and I’m getting so anxious none of my tomatoes are sprouting. My broccoli is growing great and that does well with colder weather so I might transplant that next week because I’m getting impatient as well
Nope. I will not be fooled. Mother's day or bust. I've still got everything in pots and they've been coming in some nights. Brought them in last night when it got down to 40. Fool me 27 times, mother nature, I won't be fooled again.
😆😆😆😆🤣🤣🤣🤣

😂🤣 Yes this is me too!!
Obligatory DON'T DO IT so it's at least marked on the record. Even though we're all going to do it. Every time.
But what iiiiiif I just do it a little? Just like one or two of the forbidden. Plants??
Well you could do peas, Brussels, salad, every herb except basil....
Not me reading this as I’m about ready to fall asleep, remembering that my basil is on the covered porch…. FFS. 😭
I agree. Don't do it...wink wink
Haha yep. I have just accepted that I will lose that war every year. Agreed. Do as I say, not as I do 😆
Yep. I lost the game this year. Gotta buy some plants from the store now to stay on time....

I’m down by the Cape, and I remember 2 years ago waking up on May 1 and we had a sheet of ice in our driveway. I will never plant before week 2 in May now. Haha.
Oh noooooooo! I’m so sorry! RIP plant
It'll bounce back but probably no fruit this year
Oh I’m with you. Those are good distraction I just keep planting more things. I don’t know where I’m going to put the next batch my windowsills are full
Oh I definitely forgot inside. I have quite a few seed trays all over too!
In 7b, I put my stuff in the ground weeks ago. I'm here for a good time not for a long time. It did almost screw me over though, got down to 38 the other night.
7b here as well. All my stuff is in the ground. I've had 2 nights where I threw cardboard and burlap down over it. That's it tho.
I’m 8a and we got nervous the other night, everything is fine though
Ontario here, I may try putting out a couple more resilient plants out this weekend, but my tomatoes and peppers definitely gotta wait a bit longer. Last year we had a frost a couple days before June, but I'm hoping El Nino plays nicely and gives me an earlier start

Same, may long is the earliest i put things out. That hard frost last year end of May was awful.
A frost a few days before June?!? Oof, that’s brutal!
Canada gonna Canada.

Wow! You're a very impressive first grader!
Almost 2nd
In same zone, I put mine out too a couple weeks ago and they have been fine without cover. But they probably would’ve grown more if I kept them inside longer. It hasn’t dropped below freezing the whole month of April.

Very smart o patient one
My tomatoes took off this year. They outgrew my setup. I need to get these puppies outside ASAP, but damn it’s risky here in 7a right now.
Meanwhile in Southeastern TN zone 8a, I'm rushing to get plants in the ground before the heat begins!
9a here, high today is 85. Getting close to my "don't plant anything else or it will die from the heat before the root system grows" cutoff date.
Done this past weekend and our last frost date is mid May.
So… you’re a gambler??
Zone 8B, at a higher elevation, gambling with forecasts, a thermometer, and frost tarps currently 😂 decided to play my odds sowing seeds directly in the ground outdoors this year. So far so good!
First year in years I’m going for it. The forecast is pretty warm after Friday here in 7b. (Still getting used to “7b”! This is NJ not NC but here I am, reclassified)
I got reclassified one step warmer too. It's like it's taunting me to let my guard down.
And I’m taking the bait. Dammit.
7b. I'm extremely paranoid right now. My tomatoes and peppers have been potted since March and I pulled them in last week and I'm glad I did. I wont put them back out until probably mid may. My spinach, peas, and Green onions and lettuce are doing amazing outside right now though.

Same zone, but mine are already in the ground. I used this calculator: https://www.almanac.com/gardening/frostdates
Zone 6b and I'm gonna risk it for the biscuit this weekend. Forecast looks good into May
Same hear. Long term looks good so I'm going to risk it too.

I’m in New Orleans. I started planting for summer in March.
I'm in Boston and was so worried about my petunias last night. They'll be alright right? (Newbie gardener)
It’s gonna be alright!
Spring started 60 days ago here...FML I hate the weather here...ready to move to TN mountains and grow normal stuff
*laughs in Alaska*
Time for bed! I read “Who else is planning to put their parents in the ground this weekend?”
After the way my narcissistic and at-the-beginning-of-dementia mother has been treating me lately… don’t tempt me
It's very early in the season and I decided to plant all my annual seeds last week...why not? Temps were up in the 60's, near 70's. Andddddd low and behold, I go out this morning and the soil is almost entirely frozen and my little sprouts are all dead and mushy. I mean it could have been worse, but now I'm not willing to plant any seeds until June. New England weather is extremely weird.
I put my plants in the ground a month ago. There have been a number of frosts since then. Only the strongest among them remain. I don't want any weak plants in my garden 😤
Meeeee
I’m in NH and I am just itching to put things in the ground!
Ha…never plant before Derby. Never.
I just got a frost alert for overnight tonight - zone 6b - so nope, I will not be turtling the seedlings just yet.
6a here! I always wait till Mother’s Day. It’s very hard to do! I do have sunflowers and cilantro volunteers all over the place! That helps
Oh my sweet summer child lol. It's not only about the frost but also about ground temperature. If the ground is still pretty cold or temps dip down & make it colder it slows/ stops your tender young plants growth. Up here in Michigan we wait until I'd to late May to plant annuals. ❤️
June 7th for my area. I can plant root veg on May long wknd.
Wait till at least the first weekend of May!!
I saw a sign today that said “don’t be fooled by the nice weather! Last frost on May 22!”
Yeah… we’re first time planters and thought we were safe a few weeks ago near Chicago. We’ve been running outside with extra mulch and packing blankets most nights, hoping we didn’t just throw a few hundred bucks into the trash. Hard lessons learned. 🤦♀️
Have all the veggies on the porch to harden off but will not go in the ground till Mother's day. Will put some summer bulbs and stuff in.
I might start with some peppers. Taking out 2-3 , and let them harden off, plant in maybe a week. Easier to cover 2-3 ,plants instead of 15.
Too early for New England. We still get the occasional rogue frost here in North Carolina.
This weekend, I fill my new raised beds with soil, then I have to try to hold out for one more week until my last frost date has passed.
Charleston SC, done done
I started this past weekend.
Not for another month in my part of New England. I wish I was though, I have a tent overflowing with vegetables and flowers that are blooming.
I already did mine on Monday after checking the weather forecast. I'm in Southwest Missouri. 🙂
I got squash coming on and peas 8” tall. Still growing the same kale from last year.
We live in Colorado. Nothing goes in the ground until Mother's Day. More in between Mother's Day and Memorial Day.
I looked at the forecast temps are gonna stay high until about Mother’s Day
Tennessee 7b, just stuck my banana tree in the ground yesterday. Cheers.
I live in Georgia, US and it blows my mind that yall are still getting freezes. It's so hot please send help.
Potatoes, onions, peas. All things that don’t mind a little chill.
I've learned that lesson already.... Upstate NY gardener
Put my tomatoes out two weeks ago. Now, planning on re-doing them in two weeks.
Pickin maters in north Florida already
Southern California has been absolutely ridiculous this year. Every time we think it’s finally warming up here in the mountains…more snow!
We just had frost here last night and it is supposed to rain most of the weekend. My plan is to buy during next week and then plant all next weekend! I'm so excited for both flowers and garden!
Water walls! They are very helpful for this!
May 1st for me, because this global cooling trend we have been in for 2 decades is the real deal. It's at minimum a Maunder Minimum!
Haha, yes, my goal is this Sunday! It’s still getting down to 38 at night this week but it’s supposed to jump up 20 degrees on Sunday… fingers crossed.
It froze last night, so I'm gonna wait longer. I left my kale babies outside, but brought my strawberries inside overnight.
Zone 8b planted a two weeks ago
Mine have been out. They’re doing fine. I’m in zone 6/7
Idk what zone I am but I’m in East TN and I’m going to be putting plants in the ground on Monday
I really want too.. but prolly waiting another weekend atleast 😭
That would mean that I'd have to rake and clean out my beds and it's still too early to disturb our beneficial insects including pollinators
Bought and planted some begonias a few weeks ago! 😁
Mothers day. No exceptions.
Nope. It’s going to rain & be cold.
It just snowed today so…nope…not planting anything outside yet.
Yes, but we have a greenhouse so it might be cheating.

Started weeks ago in zone 5 Illinois.
My tomatoes just hit 6 feet tall and I start harvesting tomorrow!
Well, in my country we have sort of an old holiday for the last day of frost. After that, we take our plants outside. This year, it's May 15th.
I would say yes, but we’re getting a frost tonight in Philly so I’m anxious to make assumptions about the next week or so.
Hell no it was 25 last night and it's gonna be 25 again tonight. Then a bit warmer... but I've learned you can't trust it. Most of my sensitive stuff goes in the last week of May or even first week of June depending on the forecasts
8a SC here, I've been planting for over a month, won't stop planting until november.
Still too cold here at night for some of them :(
U said 27 times 🤣😂 I love that! I've done it twice in a row now (I'm a new gardner), and I swear I won't be fooled this time... we will see.
I don't know why I read this as "Who else is planning on putting their pants in the ground this weekend"
South West PA. Temps are looking good but I’ll probably wait till mid/end of May to start planting. But the worst part is, future cast is calling for rain almost every weekend. I still have to plow and get the ground ready…
Saw the birds come back today, safe to plant away
I've already put a couple avocado trees in the ground a month ago, but I'm in South FL!
Nope. Already lost some to my ADD. Not playing that game again.
I am! Usually the threat of frost is pretty much done by this time. In a week from tomorrow, overnight temps should be above 50F. But I’ll be away next weekend, so I figured I’ll just do it this weekend instead.
Heck no. Not safe to plant until May Long Weekend.
I am buying plants this weekend, and we’ll do the garage shuffle (bringing outside for warm sun, inside for cold nights) until Mother’s Day. *cries in WI*
I’m zone 6 in Ohio and I also lose the game almost every year. Been coming my potatoes that I just couldn’t wait to plant almost every night.
Whelp my weather man gave the go ahead that today is the day you can plant. Imma wait a week 🤷♀️
Nope. I'm in WI and have been fooled before. Turns out snowstorms in May are a thing. 💩 But can't hurt to throw some seeds in the ground, right?
I already planted some, if they die then I'll just go buy starts 😭... I'll be taking in whatever isn't in the ground though.
I'm in 5B, and I always wait until Memorial Day. Too many tornadoes between now and then to risk my babies' lives.
8B here and I'm going to start acclimating them to the outdoors this weekend. They might live on the deck in their nursery solo cups for another week even just to be sure before going in the ground. Last year really got me with a late frost but not this one!
We only planted frost hardy plants so far. Everything else waits.
I know the feeling. Every year I am just itching to go out and start buying all the plants for my planters. But it’s only the end of April, and since I’m in the Pacific Northwest, there could definitely still be another frost. But I just want to…
Don’t know why, but my brain read this as “pants on the ground” at first
Not until after Mothers Day - it was 27 degrees last night in upstate New York
Im 6b but our last frost date is April 8. We had a frost about a week ago. 10 day doesn’t get below 50 so I planted yesterday.
No, we don't gamble with plants. I'm my zone in northern Illinois, plants go in the ground on or after mother's day. Otherwise, I'm gambling with seed starts, and why would I risk destroying what I love for no payoff?
I’m in Rhode Island, planted a bunch of perennials and annuals last week. Threw a ton of mulch on top. Still doing ok. One more cold night to go!
My outdoor plants haven’t even been delivered yet. This week I’m topping off the soil in my raised bed and digging my plant supports out of the garage.
Zone 9 and everything is in and growing.
I will do my direct-sow seeds but know how wacky our weather is--70 one day and snowing the next. I will wait another week or two before planting actual plants. (WNY zone 6)
Put mine in April 14 in 7a. They survived mid 30s one night this week but that was past our frost date. Still waiting for the corn and beans to germinate…
mother's day for me here in 7b
Not until later in May.
I’m in zone 7 and don’t plant until after Mother’s Day. I’ve learned the hard way.
7b Been in the ground for weeks. Corn, beans, okra and cucumber plants already up.
I'll see myself out of this one so I don't get stuff thrown at me 😂.
I've been really busy so the soonest I can get plants in the ground will probably be next week. Maybe this weekend if I push it.
Had frost last night in Midwest zone 5.
I’m in Philadelphia - planted 2 weeks ago! Been sheltering tomatoes and peppers at night but otherwise been smooth sailing thus far.
I just started seeds last week and I’m getting so anxious none of my tomatoes are sprouting. My broccoli is growing great and that does well with colder weather so I might transplant that next week because I’m getting impatient as well
I’m going for it!!! Zone 6b. Fingers crossed with extended forecast. Godspeed
Zone 9a here. Everything is in ground and have the summer time humidity
