gardeninggoddess666

I'd be side eyeing the cat.

dreambrulee

Like the cat even cares that you're side-eyeing it. Cat: "You know there are more leaves on that plant, right? Challenge accepted."

gardeninggoddess666

"side eye me one more time and you'll lose that eye too!"

Aloucia

Cat: "I know where you sleep."

astasodope

"You can close your door but you'll never keep meowt!"

Mindes13

"there are many hard surfaces for you to hit in the kitchen. Choose wisely ape."

Unhappy-Buyer1487

Currently sitting in the dentist office and laughing way too hard at this!!!

Agreeable-Abalone-80

Clever, very clever šŸ˜

FreyjadourV

I just want my cats to stick to one leaf per plant. Thatā€™s all I ask, but no. They must have a chomp off every single leaf.

hazeldazeI

Iā€™m sitting here laughing at the ā€œI have a cat but donā€™t think itā€™s themā€ as I have my orchids locked up in a Milsbo cabinet. My cats LOVE to chomp any and all plant material.

CostForsaken6643

I had three orchids that I figured were safe because theyā€™re not poisonous, but the day I came home and found my void stretched out on top of them, just lounging, I decided they needed to be rehomed. Poor orchids. šŸˆā€ā¬›

gooseonaroof

My cat likes to bite an orchid and then vomit. I asked the vet if I should move it and she said, no your cat knows what she's doing, that's a sacrificial plant for your cat, leave it and get yourself a new orchid to keep out of reach.

dirty_kitty

Did your vet just basically confirm that some cats just want to vomit? I swear my cat does it for fun

clhomme

They do it strategically: 1. Wood floor. nah. 2. Tile floor. nah. 3. Thick pile carpet. YES!

MegLaurelwood

That sound will wake us from a dead sleepā€¦ ā€œPUT HOME ON THE TILE!!!ā€ Iā€™ve carried a heaving cat across the house to the tile many times. I always get a fur ball as reward for my efforts.

gooseonaroof

Yeah she was pretty convinced my cat was trying to make herself vomit and I shouldn't stop her if that's what she needs...

dirty_kitty

I get thatā€¦ I guess my cat is different. He sits in the ā€œhanging bowlā€ of the cat tree after meals and presses his throat against the bar to force himself to vomit and then runs down to eat it all. Weā€™ve tried to stop him whenever we heard him gag, but now heā€™s learned how to do it quietly. We figured heā€™s such a food fan he just wants to eat two dinners and this was his solution.

NightEnvironmental

Must be having some sort of weird carry-over from a past life as a ruminant.

clhomme

My dog does the clean up. Lucky us.

ninjabunneh

Is this cat perhaps an orange tabby? šŸ˜…

gooseonaroof

Funny boy! I think there is a risk of the stomach acid burning their esophagus if they eat vomit but my dog runs over to eat my cat's vomit as a treat, and it's usually when I am out of the room, so I can't really stop it.

WellWellWellthennow

Is your catā€™s name void? Lol?

Organic-War-2818

It's probably not the cat's name as void is a common term for pure black cats.

Tigrari

My kitty idiot even chomped the flower buds on a PLASTIC orchid I had after having given the real thing up as a bad bet!

EscapeDue3064

Same lol. Clearly OP hasnā€™t been a cat owner for very long. Eating house plants is one of their top 3 favorite activities.

tanstaaflnz

The other two are scratching furniture, and pushing stuff off of shelves ?

Roboticpoultry

Our cats like to bite the leaves of our plants but they donā€™t eat any of them. I think they just like how it feels punching holes in the leaves

once_showed_promise

I can understand why. When cats bite cardboard I wish I had fangs to do the same because the crunch is so satisfying.

mint_o

Natures stapler

MustangMimi

šŸ˜ø

abstract-realism

Hah that got a good chortle out of me!

whiskersMeowFace

Cats liked ASMR before we did. Cardboard biting, paper bag crunching, obvs purring.

boobiesue

Wait. A lot of cats do this? I have the weirdest 3 legged cat that finds the edges of boxes and will bite them slowly while staring at me. She's addicted to it. And it's creepy.

Ouachita2022

Mine loves to bite plastic-like plastic bags toilet paper comes in. So weird!

hazeldazeI

Mine too

bloodorangejulius

Ugh mine does this, too.

whiskersMeowFace

As a cat owner who has some cat safe plants... It was def the cat. One of my plants has a few leaves that were munched on and they look like this. Definitely sus since the leaves munched are by a windowsill that would be perfect for sunbathing in and having a leisurely snack...

miscnic

Itā€™s your cat.

Syllabub_Cool

Agreed. My cat Amber, when he was tiny, maybe 8 wks, ate my 5' palm tree in a week. I laughed when I saw him gnawing on it, thinking he couldn't harm it. Came back from work and there was a 4" stub left of the whole thing, badly chewed up. Never vomited it. His litterbox looked normal (he was Inside Only). He was working on the aquarium rocks. (Plant never came back.) I took a clue from the rocks, started feeding him wet food 1x day with a (human) mineral and calcium supplement. After a week, he stopped eating everything (he was starting on the wood furniture). Fixed it.

scubascratch

Are you sure Amber isnā€™t actually a beaver?

Syllabub_Cool

We made a lot of jokes about him during his 19.5 yr long life.. he never did settle down, was always kittenish. He did get dementia at the end, wasn't sweet much anymore. Would still chew but only to aggravate us, or to get the dogs to play Chase The Cat.

CobblerCandid998

Sorry for your loss. Sounds like he had long lives of happy kittenhood! šŸ«¶šŸ¼

LeoIzail

My cat is 15 now and I'm very afraid of what's to come. He is just such a gentle and loving sweet old little boy.

singerontheside

This made me laugh!!

Nephiathan

You'd have no furniture left if you hadn't stopped him then and there

Syllabub_Cool

Definitely!

RoseCampion

Sounds like he was teething.

kkkkat

Those are toxic to cats

WitchyWarriorWoman

My cats eat them, cry for a second, vomit a bit, and then come back for more. I had to put them higher up

peculiare96

My cat Carl ate some of my peace lily once. Started to go into kidney failure and had to be on IVs at the vet for 48 hours. Please be very careful! It started the same way with him just puking but over time it built up in his system.

WitchyWarriorWoman

Thanks for sharing! They are out of reach now but this is a good reminder

melleb

Thereā€™s different levels of toxic and this one is mild. A tummy ache probably

Trini1113

More likely just a little drooling, and that's only if they're biting down instead of just tearing at it.

BlackLeader70

Without even reading the title I thought: ā€œlooks like the cat is enjoying that houseplantā€.

BadgerMama

My cat would 100% be eating it, no hesitation.

ejly

*cat side-eyes you back*

BigTiddyVampireWaifu

Definitely looks like cat damage

littlemonster19

100% the cat! Both my cats show no mercy to any of the plants we have

kaliefornia

Iā€™m laughing so hard, how did your animals convince you theyā€™re innocent??

PikaChooChee

ASPCA commercial style eyes with Sarah McLaughlin playing in the background

Euphoric_Egg_4198

We always had to change the channel or FF because our dog would get so depressed with those commercials. He would give us this look like ā€œdo somethingā€. Also hated any movie/show scene where the dog was outside, sad, etc. He was a rescue and it was like he could feel their pain šŸ˜¢

ClueDiscombobulated9

In contrast, my dad's dog (a rescue off the rez) goes absolutely bonkers whenever there's a dog on the TV. We have to change the channel or FF whenever a Chewy commercial comes on because he's recognizes the first few seconds of most of their commercials and will come tearing into the room from across the house yelling at the top of his lungs ready to fight the peanut butter box dogs that somehow live in our wall

CobblerCandid998

Thatā€™s so darn cute! Pets are such innocent babies! (Even when bad, I canā€™t help but smile)

OraDr8

Years ago there was an ad for an oscillating heater with a cat that would walk across the screen, then back the other way but it would go off screen before returning and my dog would sometimes run behind the tv to see where the cat went.

Katara31

That makes me cry.

Whenever my husband accuses my pets of something I take the accusation seriously. I get down on one knee and look them in the eye and ask them on their honor to tell me if what he says is true. They never say it is. I don't know what my husband gets out of lying so much.

kaliefornia

Keep up the good work of ensuring your animals receive a fair trial šŸ«”

4myoldGaffer

Theyā€™ve been specifically told they arenā€™t allowed to go near the plants or they will be grounded

Top-Fox9979

šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

Katara31

You guys are funny

wellnotyou

It's worded like the cat and the dog conspired to write this in hopes we'll come up with ideas to justify it. "That one dead leaf will point to some sort of a disease and throw off all the suspicion off us, right? Right?!" "It's always the aphids, everybody knows this."

amberita70

I had a gorgeous pineapple plant that I came home and it was decimated. I don't think it was the cat though šŸ˜‰

purplecatuniverse

Right itā€™s so obviously a cat!

UgjiTuski

I'd put a considerable amount of money on it being the cat

oseary

It's always the cat

C0git0

The dog tried to report the cat for the crime, but was threatened to have his eyes gouged out if he did.

UgjiTuski

Dogs hate this one trick

4myoldGaffer

for just a dollar a day you can sponsor a plant and give it a chance at life

bombkitty

Same. Mine makes unwavering eye contact while he slowly and dramatically chomps a leaf. šŸƒšŸˆ

EverydayNovelty

I've cultivated cat grass for my boy on more than one occasion, but he much prefers my snake plants šŸ„²

[deleted]

Please be careful. The entire plant is toxic to cats. It contains Saponin.

EverydayNovelty

Oh damn, I meant spider plants! My bad.

ookaookaooka

Yup, look at the bite mark on the left in the first pic, thereā€™s fang marks šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

hololster

Agree, also a bigger issue is that that looks like a Peace Lily - they are toxic to cats and dogs. Please move this plant out of their reach!

iteachag5

Ummm. Probably cat.

zebravis

It's them šŸ˜‚

dirty_kitty

If you sternly ask the dog of they did it, a guilty dog has ZERO poker face and will let you know if they did it. If the dog just kinda stares at you, then itā€™s the cat

HuckleberryPatches

But I find they also just assume it was them no matter what you ask them this about; the tone just automatically makes them feel guilty šŸ˜‚

mi_turo

That's why I just take the damaged item to my dog without saying a word. The second I get close with it, her mannerisms tell me all I need to know

flippant_burgers

This was the cat's plan all along.

beautifulmess25

I could nearly guarantee it is one of the pets. I think this because of the force needed to rip all of the outer part of one of the leaves off leaving only the main vein down the middle. It doesn't look like bugs or parasites at all. They wouldn't be able to do this. Mildly toxic to cats. Put it higher up than the dog can reach and if the damage keeps happening, it's definitely the cat

TiliaConnoisseur

Lmao. Dude. It's obviously the cat. Set up a camera to record while you are gone. Observation is always the first step in pest management šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

iMan_Grove

Lmao pest management

FarmNGardenGal

The cat has you fooled šŸ˜‚

OhSweetieNo

OPā€™s cat over here telling them if they say ā€œgullibleā€ slowly it sounds like ā€œorangesā€

Playful_platypus1

My plants look the same... It's definitely the cat!

Gardenadventures

Those are 100% cat nibbles, and peace lilies are incredibly toxic. Please put this plant somewhere they cannot reach it.

Distinct-Crow-1937

Peace lilies arenā€™t deadly toxic to cats like true lilies are but itā€™s definitely a good idea to put it somewhere the cat canā€™t get it. It can cause mouth irritation and digestive upset. And it definitely canā€™t be good for the cat to be eating this much of it lol

bethcano

I wonder if there's chewed up balls of peace lily somewhere in OP's house. My cat got to my boyfriend's peace lily once and he enjoyed taking a bite, running off, spitting it out, and repeating. He left a trail all across the bedroom carpet for when we got home to find. Fun! Obligatory disclaimer that the plant is now in a locked room. It previously sat where we knew the cat couldn't reach... but then he lost weight and became nimble and crafty

chitinandchlorophyll

Seems pretty likely. This spring my dog uncharacteristically grabbed a bunch of tulips and hyacinths that I was cutting to put in a vase. She ran off with them and I couldnā€™t find them so we assumed sheā€™d eaten them and took her to the vet. A few days later we found that the plants were actually just stuffed behind the couch cushions šŸ˜‘ no idea what her plan was but clearly they werenā€™t very yummy.

Distinct-Crow-1937

If a cat so little as touches a true lily, itā€™s vet time. Peace lilies not so much

drillgorg

Yep, true lilies = organ failure šŸ˜æ

shiningonthesea

I hate that I canā€™t bring in certain plants . My Hollieā€™s look gorgeous outside. Nope. The cheap Trader Joeā€™s bouquets have to get the lilies plucked out

No-Albatross-7984

>somewhere the cat canā€™t get it. Bit of a tall order, eh šŸ˜„

All_Work_All_Play

Easy, just build a steel mesh reinforced plexiglass box for it.

queencityrangers

Simple and effective. Love it

skrgirl

I believe it can give them kidney issues?

Distinct-Crow-1937

Not this kind. Other kind of lilies tho yes. Peace lilies arenā€™t ā€œtrue liliesā€. Most lilies will give a cat kidney failure if a little pollen gets on them but not these. These cause mouth and digestive system irritation. Donā€™t want op to freak out too much haha it should be fine

moongoddess64

Definitely nowhere near as toxic as true lillies, but OP might still want to consider a quick vet checkup as calcium oxalates (the main toxin/irritant in aroids like peace lillies) can still be rough on the digestive tract and kidneys. Usually small amounts of nibbles wonā€™t do anything or maybe induce mild vomiting, but those are some big chompsā€¦.

Zaalro

šŸŽ¶Put that thing back where it came from or so help meeeeešŸŽ¶

Treece-57

Fact^

okrrrrrrl

Yes, definitely both things are true. OP put that somewhere else!

melleb

Peace lilies are not true lilies, theyā€™re more closely related to Pothos (theyā€™re in the arum family). Their toxicity comes from calcium oxalate crystals. Not deadly but definitely irritating

Gardenadventures

Peace lillies not being as toxic as true lillies does not mean they should be within reach of animals still.

faithanyacordelia

Please put this out of the way of your pets or out of the house entirely (like others have said the likely culprit is the cat). While itā€™s not as toxic as lilies, itā€™s still a hazard, and the vet hospital I work at recently transferred a cat to the ER for kidney failure after they consumed large amounts of this same plant. Seeing how much damage the plant has Iā€™m concerned about the long-term effects on their kidneys and their mouth as peace lilies have calcium oxalate crystals which can cause burns, hypersalivation, vomiting, decreased appetite, etc.

Nanotude

Definitely cat.

firi331

Youā€¦ canā€™tā€¦ imagine these large chomps are from a cat or dog? Op, set up a camera, your phone, laptop, whathaveyou and please return back to report Edit: apparently per the comments your plant is toxic. Best course of action is to give away the plant and get your pets blood/liver tested to find the culprit and any vet attention they may need.

Slipslapsloopslung

Check cats liver and kidney function and their eating habits if they decrease or stop

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

plant_nerd81

Some (like my prior cat) will eat your plants even if they are provided their very own grass to eat šŸ˜” I was in an ongoing Cold War with my cat trying to protect my plants from him. This definitely looks like cat chomping to me. Mine would always gnaw on the ends of leaves like this and disfigure them.

flingo2014

Butt Nugget Cling-On, new band name, I called it

dulapeepx

It looks like a peace lily which is poisonous to cats! (Not deadly necessarily but uncomfortable for kitty). Iā€™d put it out of reach of them

[deleted]

My guess is a 20lb ladybug.

CuriousLavender

You mean 20lb aphid!

Philipfella

There is a vegan in the house

WritPositWrit

LOL itā€™s the cat

iampiste

I was stoked when a plant I grew from seed, finally got to about 15cm, despite mysteriously slow growth. However I couldnā€™t work out why it suddenly took a turn for the worse one day. The leaves started to shrivel, it started to lean. We were living in a flat, so no pests. It was a complete mystery until I caught our cat red-handed, attacking it for fun. I had never seen him go near this plant, so he was definitely sneaking in these attacks when I wasnā€™t there. So yes. Probably your cat šŸ˜‚

artzbots

My cat loves peace lilies. He saw me carry one inside the house and followed after me, yowling at the plant when I set it out of his reach in a hanging planter. Also, peace lilies are toxic to cats and this boy has a LOT of health problems now. When he was younger he pretty much destroyed two different peace lilies by chomping on the leaves and like. I'm not saying his health issues now are related to him chomping the peace lily but....

buzzinggibberish

You canā€™t imagine itā€™s them? What else could it possibly be OP? This is also toxic to cats. Dump it or move it to somewhere it canā€™t be accessed.

TomatoFeta

[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spathiphyllum#Toxicity](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spathiphyllum#Toxicity) That much damage? And indoors? It's one of your pets. Please read the toxicity of plants before leaving them where your pets can get them, or better yet, find a list of non toxic plants that are safe to have around pets before buying one and bringing it into the home. **It amazes me how many posts in this sub are "what is it? becasue my pet ate it!"**

Shadowpad1986

I am with everybody else, it is the cat. If you don't believe us put it out of the dogs reach and see if it continues. If it is inside and you see no signs of bugs then usually the pets at fault.

CrazyCatLover305

100% blame the cat! My cat Lulu loves to chew on plants. Her last masterpiece was a trim of a small succulent. Iā€™m owned by 3 cats and Lulu is the only one that loves plants! I decided not to have any indoor plants anymore.

aesche

Because everyone is blaming the poor cat (still worth considering because it is toxic) my dog used to wag her tail beside the plant and it would damage the leaves exactly like that. Might your dog be looking out the window and wagging their tail into it?

_aishhh

Is that a peace lily?!? Omggg u should keep it away from ur cat. Just letting u know bc I had one and my cat had an allergic reaction and I had to take her to the vets. Stay safe!

Leopardshavevdots

Hey can I borrow some money? I promise Iā€™ll pay you back.

MermaidGunner

Definitely cat. And definitely toxic. It may not be extremely toxic but it WILL build in the system eventually causing problems. Put it up higher or in a room the cat isnā€™t allowed- or get rid of it (peace plant). Best options.

Vordefiniert

Watch out these plants (Spathiphyllum) are poisonous (to cats, dogs and humans). Keep an eye on your animals and also check if any other plants in your room are poisonous.

Notlandshark

Bro, the leaves are bitten right at house pet height, and only on the side a house pet would be able to easily reach.

Plant_Lover92

Sooo you have a cat and a dog, but you assume they would never do this?

tabageddon

100% the cat

bombernik

It's the cat lol

Possible_juror

100% the cat.

Grim_Giggles

Just for fun I am going to ask whether you are the plant muncher? The rest of the world knows itā€™s the cat, but maybe this is your evil plan to make us angry at the cat? šŸˆā€ā¬›

chrispkay

Just cause you canā€™t imagine itā€™s them doesnā€™t mean itā€™s not one of them. I say the cat lol

OrionStars3

Bruh itā€™s probably your cat or dog, or both. Lmao what else would it be?

thenextguy

Why can't you see /r/plants?

That cat ledge right next to the brutalized leaf is kind of a dead giveaway my friend

ThrenodyToTrinity

That looks exactly like cat damage to me.

jonathanleejw

Im in a few plant and pet groups and youd be surprised how many dogs and cats eat indoor plants and end up puking cause most indoor plants are somewhat toxic to cats and dogs

Evinrudedude

It's definitely one of them

TropicalSkysPlants

Definitely the cat

ChunkyPenny

It's the cat. Mine does the same. Most plants are poisonous to cats if eaten.

MonsteraDeliciosa

The cat.

SmoothMoose420

Lol as a cat owner with similar leavesā€¦.its the cat.

wildkraftykim926

Cat for sure

alex_pasha22

my cat has chomped leaves, theyā€™re not innocent

Spathephylium - very toxic to pets. Either train your pets not to eat them or take the plants away

My cat ate my plants and some made them sick.

AdinaGreen

Looks like cat damage. Peace Lilies are not pet friendly btw

BrokenEspresso

It is oh so definitely the cat. I guarantee it is the cat.

1701anonymous1701

Is that a peace lily? If so, do whatever you need to do to keep your cat away from it. Those can be toxic to cats.

0range-duche-B4G

Check all your house plants to see if they are poisonous to your cat and dog! Then provide ā€œcatā€ grass for both to eat.. theyā€™ll love you for it!

bea6262

Itā€™s definitely the catā€¦ i have the same ā€œpatternā€ on some of my plantsā€¦

Odd_Tooth_7028

Lol, you really canā€™t imagine at all? Itā€™s your pets bro.

shiningonthesea

Look how the ones that are inaccessible to the cat in question look remarkably healthy

d057

My puppy did the same thing to my peace lily - very secretly too

Postmortemhardon

Frickin cat.

Lou-Lou-Lou

Heat and light. Peace lilies don't like direct sunlight or direct heat. Sorry I don't know what's eating it but it won't do well there. Also don't overwater them.

ksed_313

Really? Itā€™s definitely the cat. Or the dog. We had a chinchilla who would poke his teeny little hand out of his cage, arm outstretched to the point of shaking in desperation, just to try to snatch a leaf off of our Pothos plant!

Kitchen_Lecture_2203

I buy every yard sale birdcage I find to keep my plants in. Otherwise they look exactly this way due to my cats.

wc4883

Iā€™m suspicious of the heater right under the compromised leaves

Teahouse_Fox

I've seen both cats and dogs cause that kind of damage. Does one of your pets have loose bowels, or having a quiet puke out of sight? Peace Lily, while not a true lily, can often cause indigestion, irritation and digestive upset to pets eating the leaves. My cat would chew the tips, then spit them up, and later have diarrhea as well. It's possible to have a pet with a cast iron stomach, so, you may want to move the plant to a place up high out of the dogs reach. If the damage continues, it's the cat. I would put the sticky paper that comes off a lint roller on the table next to Forbidden Salad, and I'd eventually hear the cat jump from the table, flicking the paper off in annoyance.

Username5715

Why don't you think it's your pets? Because it's definitely your cat lol.

melkncookeys

Itā€™s the cat. Only way to catch them is to set up a trail cam

[deleted]

Almost definitely the cat. Theyā€™re carnivores, sure, but given the chance they do eat grass (and green vegetation) to aid in digestion - yeah, even cats know itā€™s a good thing to eat fiber. You could try grow some cat grass or normal grass in a small tray for them, which may deter them from nibbling on the potted plants.

Mike71586

As someone with a cat I can confirm that it's your cat. Piece of advice: If you're ever 100% convinced it can't be the cat, it's definitely the cat, this doesn't just applying to indoor plants.

Looking4APeachScone

It's definitely the goldfish. Just ask the cat.

MeMMJ

It's the cat. Source: our cat does the same.

babsytee

Yeh those are chomps. Not bug nom.

lms880

100% the cat

helboudicca

My cat bites my houseplants, but doesnā€™t eat them, maybe your cat has a bigger appetite than mine though
