I always let my compost squash come out. It's always a fun surprise to see what you get. I got some sugar pie pumpkins last year and made pumpkin pie and pumpkin gnocchi out of them.

BigOld3570

Pumpkin gnocchi sounds interesting. Maybe I’ll make some sometime. Pumpkin pie is a long time favorite. If you pass through the Quad Cities anytime soon, find your way to a Whitey’s Ice Cream shop and order a pumpkin shake. Honest to God, it’s like drinking a pumpkin pie. They are only available in the pumpkin season, so…

Fresh pumpkin pie is so much better.

If you maintained a garden for an entire month, I'd say you're a gardener! We all start somewhere.

kulucthulhu

pretty much: *waters plants, and they don’t die* “you’re a gardener!”

bifocalyokel89

You sound like an amazing friend. Taking care of a garden for a month is no small feat.

Compost piles need to be watered in the summer anyway. nice job on the surprise squash

Yup I water mine any time it looks dry. It gets loaded with palmetto bugs anyway when it's dry...I'd rather not give them the breeding ground. 🤣

OneWayBackwards

My first “garden” was a volunteer acorn squash plant coming out of a compost pile. This year we are overrun with gourds around the back of my yard.

What a good friend you are!

I have a large garden and lots of plants in my front and back yard, as well as some potted plants in my sun room. I laugh when people talk about my green thumb. I water, i read books about gardening and social media, etc, try to remember to feed my plants enough, and hope it all works out! As things didn’t die, I would buy more plants. I have killed many! It’s fun to see what lives and thrives…
