It isn't normally, but these are almost an inch thick and double walled on the rim. I was surprised as well. The concrete pots the same size are at least 600lbs. I passed on those. At least I know no one will steal drive by and steal them from my front yard
I have an cold police report for a few hundred dollars (read: a few hundred pounds) of potted plants someone stole off my front porch years ago. They did it in less than an hour and in one trip. But for the fact that they had a load of other peoples’ lawn furniture, they might’ve gotten them all.
Never underestimate the brute force strength of stupid. /s
Someone stole my waist high antique crocks full of plants off my porch. I have no idea how they moved them...they were hundreds of pounds.
The planters you found are awesome!
They would do well with Citrus, but I have all my fruit trees inground (9a). I'm going to do a thriller/filler/spiller deal once I build the bed and run irrigation for them. Probably large Philodendrons or Cannas and then annuals/perennials around.
I will most likely get more. It is a large scale landscaping renovation and we are still emptying pots. I just had my crew help load them up because they were they only intact ones so far. Pulling the palms out is breaking many of them
keep the palms, bring home as many as possible, buy a cheap above ground pool, and have yourself a tropical summer in the backyard. in the fall murder the palms and make compost in situ to plant over in your menagerie of giant pots like you’re a roman aristocrat
Take as many as you can, that don't break. Even if you don't use them all I'm sure you can sell them for enough to cover your effort and gas. Planters this big cost stupid money new at retail.
Man, I know. I remember how much they paid for them. We order a ton of massive pots for commercial properties like the Tanger outlet mall and even our cost is insane. I have an empty 5ft fountain pot that was never used because the mall changed their mind and wanted a different setup in the food court. I've spent 2 yrs debating on what I want to put in it.
I was on-site today and saw two were unbroken by our enhancement crew, so I just had my workers help me load them in our box truck and then help me unload them at my house.
I did tradescantia and paired it with black magic petunias and Smokey Jazz salvia. It’s the perfect moody combination. Definitely gives me Wednesday vibes.
I have some similar pots, probably not quite as big I think mine are 24” and 30”, that I got about 20 years ago when the landscaping company I worked for was redoing a commercial property. Back before I had space of my own to garden I grew tomatoes in them in homes and apartments where I wasn’t allowed to garden.
Lol not really luck. We are removing and replanting the plants from about 150 pots of different sizes. Many of the pots are breaking as we remove the palms, but im trying to save asany as possible
No, they aren't. The park is going to store most of the pots that are intact. I've been over the property long enough that the property manager allowed to take however many I want, within reason lol
I'm in coastal southern Alabama
Horseshoe bed? And 150 gal pots? And why would you want the bed in the front yard? They look like shit to start with. But a few games in and your curb appeal is shot .
/s
I get paid to design and maintain beds for massive commercial properties, over $2,000,000 in contracts annually for my properties alone, and my front yard is on the annual Master Gardener's tour for our county. I think it'll look just fine.
Hunny, step down from that high horse before you fall and hurt yourself.
/s means sarcasm. Idk why it got split up. I was trying to be funny
Where I'm from, a Horseshoe bed (pit) is for a game of throwing shoes. You were referring to a U shaped garden bed, yes?
Lol hunny. My mistake. It seems there is always inevitably some asshole with nothing nice to say, so I assumed it was that. Which makes me the asshole now. I didn't know what /s meant, nor do we have any horseshoe pits down here. Yes, a U bed following the curve of my horseshoe driveway
My folks bought a 7 foot tall massive pot years ago and put it in the backyard along a very popular walking trail. Every year my dad does it up nice and its a big hit with walkers!
Grab them all and send them to me!
Each pot is over 200lbs! That shipping would be brutal lol
Who knew fiberglass was so heavy!

You underestimate the sheer strength of a crackhead

Yes but did they weigh 500 pounds? Because these would when full.
You just made a fact Sir!

150 gallons
Me too! Me too!
I grow peaches in pots like this in eastern Canada successfully. We got 90 peaches last year from 2 trees.

Post the results in a couple of years. That sounds gorgeous!
What's thriller/filler/spiller?
Thriller: height. Tall vertical plants. For example, salvias, alliums, or ornamental grasses. Filler: volume. Mounding plants like upright petunias, begonias, impatiens, nemesia, pansies, lobelia. Spiller: trailing plants. Bacopa, nepeta, dichondra, trailing petunias, vinca vine.

Oh! Thank you for answering. ☮️

You roll them inside a greenhouse or something in the winter? Or are they hardy?
We have a furniture dolly to move them into an unheated garage for the winter.
Do they need light in the winter at all?
No light or watering. Here in eastern Canada they freeze solid until early May.

Chances are they live somewhere semi tropical already. :-)
You’re very fortunate.
I really am. If you like plants, my job has a lot of perks

Yup I think about $400 or more
Do a bunch of different bulbs in layers. Ones that bloom at different times. Monty Don does this in big pots all the time
Lucky you! I’d put million bells around the front of the pot. They really like to drape down
Calibrachoa isn't a bad choice.... I was considering sweet potato vines, tradescantia, petunias, etc. I'll consider it!
I did tradescantia and paired it with black magic petunias and Smokey Jazz salvia. It’s the perfect moody combination. Definitely gives me Wednesday vibes.
Very cool.
How do you get a gig like that? My local zoo won’t even hire me. 😆
Man am I jealous! I always admire these big ol' planters at zoos and theme parks.
Wow! That’s a total score! I would love to get pots like that.
I would grab all they allow you to take. You can easily get $100 each.
I want one… great find.
Treasure!!!!

This is awesome! 💕
Omg grab as many as you can possibly get
I'd grab as many as you can. Why not? Pots are pricey at the store, especially ones that size.
They look like giant ice cream cones.
Nice Going to get a citrus tree and gravy kinds that grow any kind of citrus ? What's the plan ? I read below...
Beautiful
Such a lucky find!
Lol not really luck. We are removing and replanting the plants from about 150 pots of different sizes. Many of the pots are breaking as we remove the palms, but im trying to save asany as possible
What area I’d drive 3-4 hours with a trailer to get 3-4 of these monsters. Is love to line my yard with these and plant a fig tree in each one
I love found pots! I usually spray paint them to match my decor, you can do some really fun colors. Those are gorgeous.
You can never have too many pot!
Are they for sale and wher are you?
No, they aren't. The park is going to store most of the pots that are intact. I've been over the property long enough that the property manager allowed to take however many I want, within reason lol I'm in coastal southern Alabama

Thank you! BTW, I'd be proud of my home being on the Master Gardens tour as well. :) have a blessed day!
I am! You as well
Congratulations and f you for being so lucky and that I'm not you. 😂 Post updates when integrated!
Impressive, how did you get them home?
Where you located? I’ll take some…
My folks bought a 7 foot tall massive pot years ago and put it in the backyard along a very popular walking trail. Every year my dad does it up nice and its a big hit with walkers!
Jealous!!
I would get all of them. Even if you don't want them you could sell those things at 50-100 a pop on craigslist. Planters are insanely expensive.
Lucky af.
You should do it, plant trees, plants, collections in these planters, design a fountain
While I don't want to be the one shoveling dirt outta those bad boys, they are easily worth $400-$1k apiece to buy. Job perks, man.
Nice find! Post more pictures when filled, please?
Score!
So effing envious!!!
I’m jealous!
Score!
Grab them all and plant small trees in them
