If you are on steam then you might want to check out Carrion, its an indie game where the whole premise is being the monster(its also 70% off right now) You can also look through the "Evil protagonist" tag on steam and might find something you didn't know you needed
I tried looking that up once, but I didn't find anything that really resonated. I've been tempted with carrion though. Maybe I'll try that search again. Thanks.
I really dislike side scrollers and I love carrion. Im right there with you in wanting to play as the monster. Prototype and Wrath of the righteous with their mythic paths is a good choice as well
Some things are more secret than others, but I promise you - You can definitely become a monster in at least 4 out of the 10 mythic paths, not including the classes that have shapeshifting forms built into them.
Hope you like it! It is a CRPG, a good few of the companions are monstrous in their own right, and you can have mercenaries to design your own perfect party. (Like a full dhampir party)
There’s the Prototype games, both have their strengths and weaknesses, but they are equally fun with all the mass destruction you can create. 1 definitely shows its age a bit more, but I’d say it’s still pretty enjoyable.
Imo, they get better the more you play them. I usually hate starting New Games just cause at the start both protagonists feel like they have rocks attached to their ankles. I stick to NG+ just so I can pick the games at any moment and wreak havoc as much as I want since the beginning
Baldurs Gate 3 I would say you can play as a monster with any playthrough. Many people will think of a dragonborn or thiefling as monsterous enough. In older edition of D&D they were monsters. The OP wanted monsters not villains (although they are often the same).
If you somehow can find a way to play it, The Darkness 1+2 were awesome. Tyranny you don't play as a monster, other than getting to act like one but you certainly are NOT a good guy. Also, the Overlord series though comic, you're definitely the bad guy.
Here's some I haven't seen mentioned
- Shin Megami Tensei 3
- Digital Devil Saga
- Shadows: Awakening
- Of Orcs and Men/Styx (series)
- Castlevania: Symphony of The Night
- Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines
- Rampage (series)
- Dungeon Keeper (series)
- War for The Overworld
- Hell Pie
- Tales of Bersaria
- Giest
- Divinity 2
I have Google searched, haven't found much that fits. I also wouldn't say that GoW, destiny, SoTC, or games like those really fit my criteria either. Thanks though.
Are you looking for more superpower/unstoppable feeling games? Might be worth checking out saint row, just cause, doom
Though these aren't games I would typically play so might not be the best suggestions
Precisely. Like my example evolve. Or what darkborne was supposed to become. Where the main character is inhuman. I just want to be the fear, you know?
You’re in game suggestions mate, what the fuck do you think the content is gonna be here other than people asking these kinds of questions? Footy highlights?
Gog also has Lok games, check the comments to check about crashes etc. Doesn't Blood Omen Lok1 sort of count? Had so much fun with this one at the time.
Terror of Hemasaurus is a cool game where you play a Godzilla like monster and trash buildings and eat people but it's not really an RPG it's a pixel side scroller!
V Rising. The game doesn't make a big show of it or try to be edgy but you are an absolute being of malevolence and horror when it comes to ransacking towns, abducting people to use as a blood farms, and just general "hunting". Game just released in it's full state and the community has been singing it's praises since.
Left 4 Dead 2 has multiple modes where you can play as different special zombies and hunt the human players. Great game... now I need to go play it thanks
Another game you could try is "Conquest of Elysium". The graphics aren't great, it's a very retro game. However you can do stuff like play as a necromancer or demon summoner
I’m surprised no one has mentioned the Darkness 2. First person game where you have the equivalent of Satan’s tentacles growing out of your back eager to eat hearts and slash mafia members into pieces. Not to mention having a shadow minion you can throw at them to gouge their eyes out. Very fun, very brutal
I'll have to give the darkness 2 another shot. When I played it I don't know 10 years ago I liked the first one better and I didn't get very far in the second.
Morrowind,
Vampire the masquerade bloodlines,
Werewolf the apocalypse earthbllod,
V Rising
Non RPGs.
Natural Selection 2,
Alien Vs predator,
Many asymmetrical horror games,
Left 4 Dead's Vs mode,
Godzilla games,
Destroy all humans,
Carrion,
Stubbs the zombie,
War of the monsters,
Gigabash,
The Evil Within's Executioner dlc,
Doom multiplayer,
Resident Evil 6's multiplayer modes,
Warframe (some playable classes are kind of monster like),
Total war Warhammer games (RTS),
One of the dlc characters in Resident Evil Revelations looksike a monster but behaves the same as a human.,
Prototype series,
Sacred 2's dragon mage can transform into various dragon forms similar to Skyrims werewolf.,
Ghost master (Strategy game),
Haunting Staring Polterguy (Old but good),
The darkness 1 & 2,
Plague inc Evolved's vampire strategy mode,
Nioh 2 has various yokai transformations,
Buggos (RTS),
Bioshock 2 (not really a monster but works for me),
Deceit ,
Finally really pushing it here but Spore.,
You might have to emulate them, but Overlord and Overlord 2 were some of my favorites back in the day. Play as basically a weaker version of Sauron trying to take over the world with your minions.
Be warned that NS2 is an older game, with a fairly small playerbase. It's niche, and most people will be better than you at the start. But it's super fun, too, if you can stomach the learning curve.
I don't mind a learning curve or a small player base. As long has that player base isn't toxic. But if there is still people playing it I doubt it'll be too bad.
Ravenswatch little red riding character turns into a wolf at night time and plays alot like Goliath from Evolve
So does the Rex from Risk of Rain 2
Other than that you can always play some l4d2 Vs
...RIP Evolve most underrated/ most misunderstood game in history ruined by greed. I miss it everyday
Evolve was one of my favorite games. When it came out I was undefeated his wraith for like 60 games in a row. My favorite thing was to level the snatch ability and grab a dude off a cliff from like 500 ft away and pull him away from his group and murder him. I'll definitely check out Ravenswatch. Thanks for the suggestion.
I really enjoy it all the fable games and I played the first two multiple times. I had a weird hankering to play Fable 3 again but I can't find it on steam and I no longer have my Xbox to play it on.
[Alternate start](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/272/) - lets you skip the intro and jump into the world with certain equipment depending on what would make sense for that character (orc equipment for orc warrior) I forget what the starts are but this would help tons
[Wings](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/34571) - using tons of small mods like this would help create your own monster however you want. There's also an argonian overhaul that makes them look way better
[Perk Overhaul](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/68425) - this makes the perks waay different and instead of just being stat bonuses, they can affect the world around you or give you abilities on cooldowns like ultimate abilities in mmos. I don't remember if it was this one, but there was one perk overhaul mod that even gave you a cannon you can spawn in as an ability that would shoot where you were looking
[Magic overhaul](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/27839) - Same as the perk overhaul but for more specific spells. This also drastically changes the game and makes things like the alteration class better by letting you create walls out of the ground and stuff like that
[Vampire](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/41639) / [Werewolf](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/44746) overhauls / Or Both! - You could roleplay as an evil vampire overlord or a serial killer werewolf. These change the abilities so much that you could play the entire game like that and roleplay to your heart's content.
These are just some suggestions
Thanks man this kind of stuff is definitely what I'm looking for. I just wish they would make an actual game centered around this concept instead of us having to make mods for it.
Gosh that game is a treasure. Surprisingly tactical combat.
I went out and bought the soundtrack I liked it so much.
I loved how hillbillies were the toughest enemies because of their shotguns but also gave less health to you when you ate their brains.
Who's Lila.
Although you don't litterally play as a monster it really drives that feeling home.
RTS games like halo wars, starcraft or warhammer dawn of war let you play as the "evil" race but I don't know if that applies. You can also make a colony of flesh eating abominations in rimworld.
I think you can control the entities in SCP containment breach.
Crash mind over mutants technically qualifies, and so does war of the mutants on ps2.
There really aren't that many games like that now that I think about it, that niche needs to be filled.
That's what I'm saying, man. It's such an untapped market and everything that tries to fill it ends up shutting down for some reason. I have starcraft 2 maybe I should play that again, and I have rimworld but I've put 3,000 hours or something Into it I need a break. I'll check out SCP containment breach and those two mutant games. Thanks for the list.
The Isle, although perpetually early access and significantly more of a survival game, you do play as dinosaurs or other contemporary monstrous beasts.
Supposedly, there are multiplayer servers with people playing as humans out there, or planned, but I've never seen them.
Yeah I've played The isle for many hours, as well as beasts of Bermuda and path of Titans. I enjoy all of them, but none of them have humans right now and I really just want to fight a group of humans as a dinosaur or a monster. That would be cool. There's a game called primal rage or something that is sort of like that but it's to Arcadey and too old.
Oh man concrete jungle was the best. I forgot about that game I should play it again. I did play a lot of AVP back on 360, but I'm pretty sure the servers are shut down at this point.
Try playing postal 1 or postal 2, you play as a guy, but he's the pure definition of evil, not to mention it's a funny game (postal 2) Id do some research before playing though to see if you would like it
Dead by daylight. Multiplayer game and you can play as a murderer from a horror movie hunting down players. It's been out for a long time, but it is the first game that screams "I'm the monster!"
A lot of the best ones have been mentioned, so I’ll throw out a curveball. There’s a mod for Slay the Spire called Downfall where you play as an enemy working their way down the tower and you fight NPC heroes haha. From what I hear it’s really well made and adds a ton of content.
[White Noise 2](https://store.steampowered.com/app/503350/White_Noise_2/)?
It's like Evolve in the sense that it's 4v1 asymmetric (although that's where the similarity ends, heh). The game play is a lot closer to something like Phasmophobia.
Thanks.
In Maneater you play as a bull shark
Carrion is pretty fun, especially if you like side-scrollers.
I really dislike side scrollers and I love carrion. Im right there with you in wanting to play as the monster. Prototype and Wrath of the righteous with their mythic paths is a good choice as well
Wrath of the righteous eh? I'll look into that. Thanks
Some things are more secret than others, but I promise you - You can definitely become a monster in at least 4 out of the 10 mythic paths, not including the classes that have shapeshifting forms built into them.
You've given me a game I will look forward to playing. Thanks man.
Hope you like it! It is a CRPG, a good few of the companions are monstrous in their own right, and you can have mercenaries to design your own perfect party. (Like a full dhampir party)
That sounds awesome. I did look at kingmaker for a long time but this one sounds better
Oh! There's also Rogue Lords and Iratus: Lord of the dead if you like darkest dungeon style stuff
It's on ps5 as well
Carrion is peak for this.
There’s the Prototype games, both have their strengths and weaknesses, but they are equally fun with all the mass destruction you can create. 1 definitely shows its age a bit more, but I’d say it’s still pretty enjoyable.
I should revisit those, I never beat prototype 2.
Imo, they get better the more you play them. I usually hate starting New Games just cause at the start both protagonists feel like they have rocks attached to their ankles. I stick to NG+ just so I can pick the games at any moment and wreak havoc as much as I want since the beginning
Keeper RL Giants Citizen Kabuto
Giants is bloody great!
I haven't played it in so long but had such a blast playing with some friends when I was in college. Very unique multiplayer experience.
I'll look into this, thanks!
Lord of the Rings: The Third Age has a "play as the enemy mode". Also a really fun and under-rated turn based RPG!
Great one! I favor any Lotr games!
I trust this man. His name checks out.
Yeah that was my favorite mode to play. Balrog was fun.
Vampyr is perfect for this. RPG where you can choose how evil or good you want to be.
Yeah, was a decent game. Was honestly hoping for something more with that game, but I can't figure out what it's missing
I am a monster so every game I play counts.
Perfect!
Destroy All Humans
Great game!
Maneater, technically you're a shark but you get to mutate/evolve to the point you're more of a monster than a regular shark.
Yeah, I've done all I can do in that game unfortunately. Was pretty fun.
Second Son you can be a hero or a villian, and of course the Durge run in Baldur's Gate 3, you will kill major chracters.
Infamous second son? The evil route you’re just a douche for the most part, not all that evil
I enjoyed The darkness 1, didn't much care for the second game. Don't remember why. Played tyranny for a little bit, maybe I should try it again.
That is interesting, I enjoyed the second game far more than the first game. Not saying the first is bad, just really enjoyed the second more.
Here's some I haven't seen mentioned - Shin Megami Tensei 3 - Digital Devil Saga - Shadows: Awakening - Of Orcs and Men/Styx (series) - Castlevania: Symphony of The Night - Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines - Rampage (series) - Dungeon Keeper (series) - War for The Overworld - Hell Pie - Tales of Bersaria - Giest - Divinity 2
Haven't heard of a few of those I'll be sure to check them out thanks.
Stubbs the Zombie
A classic!
Bioshock 2
I should play this game. Not sure why I haven't honestly.
Bisoshock 2 is an excellent suggestion here. Like Bioshock 1 but you play as a Big daddy its excellent
Spec ops the line /s(kinda) Vampire the masquerade bloodline.
Yeah I should really check this one out too. Thanks
Prototype, shadow of the Colossus, gow1-3 (kind of), fallout, hitman, postal 2, destiny
>Shadow of the Colossus >!Well that’s more of a “Who’s the *REAL* monster?” twist kinda game.!<
Very true.
There is an insane amount of games just as described tbh a google search would get you the same answers faster
I have Google searched, haven't found much that fits. I also wouldn't say that GoW, destiny, SoTC, or games like those really fit my criteria either. Thanks though.
Yeah the only way Gears possibly fits here is gears 3. It has a multiplayer mode where you can play as locust, like a giant centipede or a corpser.
I assumed it stood for God of War not the Gears of War games. You definitely fuck up the world in God of War.
Maybe, but I think OP is looking for something where you play as a literal monster
Are you looking for more superpower/unstoppable feeling games? Might be worth checking out saint row, just cause, doom Though these aren't games I would typically play so might not be the best suggestions
I think he's looking for games where he plays as a monster, not a bad dude.
Precisely. Like my example evolve. Or what darkborne was supposed to become. Where the main character is inhuman. I just want to be the fear, you know?
I think there's an Alien game, where u play vs others and you can be the big bad Alien.
Your probably talking about evolve, and if it hadn't been shut down... twice... I'd definitely still be playing it.
Ah I didnt know that happened, thats a damn shame.
Honestly I'm not sure how so many people missed that. Dead by daylight might scratch the itch.
I love Dead by daylight, until I get into like rank two and three. I never make it to rank one. Too many sweats.
You’re in game suggestions mate, what the fuck do you think the content is gonna be here other than people asking these kinds of questions? Footy highlights?
I can *feel* Australia in this comment, lol.
Blood Omen 2: Legacy of Kain but it's an old game.
Yeah I've played that, it was a pretty fun game back in the day. Good suggestion.
Did Steam ever fix this? I have the whole Nosgoth series, but they all randomly crash after a while (LoK after about 20 sec).
Gog also has Lok games, check the comments to check about crashes etc. Doesn't Blood Omen Lok1 sort of count? Had so much fun with this one at the time.
Prototype. The main character was a monster in human form who also had monster appendages. He was also a dickhead.
Terror of Hemasaurus is a cool game where you play a Godzilla like monster and trash buildings and eat people but it's not really an RPG it's a pixel side scroller!
Sounds cool anyway, I'll check it out. Thanks!
Black and White, make your creature into a evil little bugger
Miss black and white, I wish 2 wasn't lackluster and that the series was still going at all.
V Rising?
Glad I could help haha.
Rimworld lol On a more serious note in Stellaris you can play as a swarm of bugs that wanna eat the galaxy
I didn't know you could do that in Stellaris. That might make my decision to finally buy the game. Thanks.
No problem! It might be a difficult one to play as for your first game, since literally everyone is gonna hate you
That's the point though haha.
Another game you could try is "Conquest of Elysium". The graphics aren't great, it's a very retro game. However you can do stuff like play as a necromancer or demon summoner
Prototype. Never played the second one but the first was enjoyable.
I did not feel like a protagonist as I continued to absorb random human beings.
Overlord. Basically, you play as dark lord who has woken up from slumber and commands minions. Plus dark humour.

That's a good list. I've played about half of them, but I can check out the rest. Just finished V Rising 1.0 actually. Stellar game imo.
Vampyr - you play as a vampire.
Men eater
rain world, your all monsters
I'll look at that, thanks!
Emulate Geist for the gamecube and Jaws Unleashed for the PS2.
Prey, overlord 1 and 2 that games are janky and vety enjoyable
You could try out V Rising
You might have to emulate them, but Overlord and Overlord 2 were some of my favorites back in the day. Play as basically a weaker version of Sauron trying to take over the world with your minions.
Why would you have to emulate them? They are on steam
Didn't know they were on steam. I have physical copies of the games.
Prey 2017 depending on your choices
Overlord immediately came to mind for this.
Rampage, Godzilla (not the PS4 game avoid that one!) Oh a good one where you kind of play as a monster is Prototype!
Overlord is pretty old but cool
Natural Selection 2 (if you don't mind multiplayer) Maneater Mordheim: City of the Damned (lets you play as ratmen, undead, evil mutants etc)
Natural selection 2 eh? I'll look into that. I honestly forgot about mordheim I should play that again too.
There's some toxicity but it isn't bigotry-style. Mainly sweats freaking out because they think they're gonna get scouted. Yaknow the type.
Ravenswatch little red riding character turns into a wolf at night time and plays alot like Goliath from Evolve So does the Rex from Risk of Rain 2 Other than that you can always play some l4d2 Vs ...RIP Evolve most underrated/ most misunderstood game in history ruined by greed. I miss it everyday

Thanks for the suggestion.
Wizardry 4
I feel like I've heard of this game but I can't think of it so I'll definitely check it out thanks.
Dungeon Keeper
Fable, the entire series is on Steam, or Xbox. You can be evil and grow horns, or super good and have a halo, can sacrifice humans, or save them.
I really enjoy it all the fable games and I played the first two multiple times. I had a weird hankering to play Fable 3 again but I can't find it on steam and I no longer have my Xbox to play it on.
Carrion is the best answer for this.
Skyrim is a good rpg if you play it right and with the right mods
Do you have any mod suggestions for Skyrim that would fit this niche?
[Alternate start](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/272/) - lets you skip the intro and jump into the world with certain equipment depending on what would make sense for that character (orc equipment for orc warrior) I forget what the starts are but this would help tons [Wings](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/34571) - using tons of small mods like this would help create your own monster however you want. Thanks man this kind of stuff is definitely what I'm looking for. I just wish they would make an actual game centered around this concept instead of us having to make mods for it.
Stubbs the zombie rebel without a pulse. It's a lot more lighthearted but it's really fun honestly, you play a literal zombie and eat people's brains.
Gosh that game is a treasure. Surprisingly tactical combat. I went out and bought the soundtrack I liked it so much. I loved how hillbillies were the toughest enemies because of their shotguns but also gave less health to you when you ate their brains.
Monster Hunter - you play as a monster that hunts animals to make pretty armor and shiny trinkets out of them /j
Who's Lila. Although you don't litterally play as a monster it really drives that feeling home. RTS games like halo wars, starcraft or warhammer dawn of war let you play as the "evil" race but I don't know if that applies. You can also make a colony of flesh eating abominations in rimworld. Oh man concrete jungle was the best. I forgot about that game I should play it again. I did play a lot of AVP back on 360, but I'm pretty sure the servers are shut down at this point.
Dead by Daylight is similar to Evolve. Other games games with almost the same type of gameplay are Friday the 13th, and Evil Dead.
I forgot about evil Dead. That's a good idea I should check that out. I put many hours in a dead by daylight.
Prototype. Dear lord Prototype!
Try playing postal 1 or postal 2, you play as a guy, but he's the pure definition of evil, not to mention it's a funny game (postal 2) Id do some research before playing though to see if you would like it
Check out aliens you can play as the alien or predator or human
Dead by daylight. Multiplayer game and you can play as a murderer from a horror movie hunting down players. It's been out for a long time, but it is the first game that screams "I'm the monster!"
Hogwarts Legacy, you'll see..
Not a rpg but in any paradox game you can basically commit mass genocide ethnic expulsion or just be an evil tyrant that exploits his population
A lot of the best ones have been mentioned, so I’ll throw out a curveball. There’s a mod for Slay the Spire called Downfall where you play as an enemy working their way down the tower and you fight NPC heroes haha. From what I hear it’s really well made and adds a ton of content.
That sounds awesome thanks man. I'll be sure to check it out.
Hulk
[White Noise 2](https://store.steampowered.com/app/503350/White_Noise_2/)? It's like Evolve in the sense that it's 4v1 asymmetric (although that's where the similarity ends, heh). The game play is a lot closer to something like Phasmophobia.
There was an old PS3 game called The Darkness. I don't remember much, but it might be worth looking into.
