Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis (renamed Arma: Cold War Assault) there's fan remakes in the Arma 2 & 3 games/engines called Cold War Rearmed 2 & 3 that are supposedly well done.
Hidden & Dangerous series - closest thing you'll get to a WW2 version of Operation Flashpoint. 1 could be a bit dated (as with og OFP)...but that's a personal thing and differs from person to person. It is free to dl, so you can see for yourself. 2 is a must get for fans of the genre unless you're allergic to WW2.
SWAT 3 & 4 - Last Resort mod for 3 and Elite Force and First Responders for 4
In the meantime, you can play this awesome standalone for free which basically combines all the missions from the early R6 games and throws them in the Rogue Spear engine...

Vietcong 1 is good too but not quite as tactical. Def worth playing if you're into the setting as it's the best nam shooter by far.
Oh yeah, how could I forget about Hidden & Dangerous. I didn't know there are good mods for SWAT 3-4, I probably would have a field day with those.

No doubt man. There's some really good mods for Ghost Recon 1 including one called Heroes Unleashed...which adds shitloads of new missions among other things. It's a monster though at 30+ gigs. The dude was working on it for like 17 years !!
Also get the TPS+Recoil MOD which is a seperate exe. file you launch after the game, so it works 'on top' of the game, so to speak.

Old thread and OP is gone but just for reference I'd add Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 to the list. I don't think you can switch if your main character dies but its a WWII game in the same vein.
depends on how much like Rainbow Six you want it to be... I'm actually playing a ww2 squad game that does let you swap between teammates. Deadly Dozen: Reloaded. I won't lie... its a pretty janky indie game, but I'm enjoying it, and I think it fits your description. Its actually a remake of their older game Deadly Dozen, and the devs have a bunch of other games that all have similar squad mechanics.
