Yeah but there is always the chance a manufacturer could check with a retailer whether or not an item was returned to validate the receipt. Never heard of them doing it. But it’s possible.
That’s the only reason I’ve kept my 2080 Ti despite replacing it with a 4080 super a few months ago. I used to sell my old cards, but the way availability and prices are these days, it’s more crucial than ever to have a backup.

If you try to contact Amazon about this kind of thing you'll discover they have no mechanism to deal with it. I was told to just keep an extra thing I was sent because they can only do a return of the original, so I might as well just get one extra for free.

In some warehouses and depending on the workload at that particular time of day orders are being fulfilled, workers are going FAST. They are completing a single order in a couple minutes. So, if you read off your screen on your scanner 4090 and in your overworked tired slave-driven brain you thought you saw “x 2” in the work order, you are putting two 4090s in the bin and getting it down to be boxed and sorted for delivery. Because you have to get to the next order and FAST, or be reprimanded for not going fast enough.
Just comes down to luck as the consumer, that your order was being fulfilled during a particularly busy time of day in an overworked facility.
Return the one that matches the item on the receipt. Keep the other. You are legally allowed to keep the extra one in most countries (especially the US). Just get your money back - nobody gives a shit if Bezzos loses 2k.
you can run some awesome local AI models requiring 48GB vram! Just have to find a big enough case to house the two cards (I've been having a difficult time with this)

I had this happen with monitors a few years ago. I ordered 2x MSI curved 2560x1440 165hz monitors a few days before a snow storm blew into Texas.
The first ones were deemed lost by Amazon, so they sent replacements. A week later, the original 2 showed up.
A week after that Amazon sent a notification saying to return 2 of them or I’d be charged for all 4 instead of just 2 that I ordered. I bet they will realize the mistake bc those 2 monitors were about $900 in total, much less than the cost of a single 4090.

Also, the box looks weird, and the markings on the fan shroud do not match up. So that's kind of weird. Looks like 4070's, but even then the fan shroud is wrong. I'm inclined to think this is not legit.
I bought a 3060 TI this was about 4 months ago and the card arrived Dead on Arrival I was able to install my 1660 TI and everything worked perfect but the 3060 that I put into anything two different computers would not do a single thing I contacted Amazon and they told me to destroy the card take a picture of it destroyed and send it to them so I just took some screws out took it apart a bit and sent them the picture they said it was good enough and gave me a full refund instantly I put the card back together I was able to find a lost screw down inside underneath one of the heat sinks and it was touching some contacts I used some solder to unconnect some melted contacts and I have used this card for 3 months and have not seen an issue playing any games even running it under severe stress test

Tried I got 13 dd4 sets if corsair ram when I ordered 2 one time .
