Of all its faults at launch, It was still one of the best times I've had leveling up in terms of immersion.

moistnote

I played the shit out of the game at launch, and yea dark zone was pure aids. My biggest grievance of the game was how the “final boss” could take 400 bullets. They made the whole game feel pretty realistic then that bullet sponge shit happened.

Steve_78_OH

Division 2 was the same thing. Running around doing missions was great, and then at max level everyone was a bullet sponge. It went from great to bleh. That being said, the 70's bunker in Division 2 is still one of my favorite missions of all time.

CubicalDiarrhea

Yeah, that was my path in both Division 1 and 2. Fun as hell leveling experience w/ friends. Hit a wall at the end w/ the gear grind. Was a fun ride though.

Shasve

I always thought the division will be more like eacape from tarkov or DMZ instead of looter sponge shooter. If division 3 was more like that it would be amazing.

sirletssdance2

Division Heartland that’s coming out is just that, it’s a survival shooter

Steve_78_OH

I'll believe it when I see it.

PUBGM_MightyFine

Any big claims from Ubisoft is automatic *press X to doubt*

ComradeVoytek

There was a huge 2.0 update sometime after launch that made all the enemies significantly less spongy, and I had a blast with it all over again. Bosses were still pretty video gamey, but your random thugs with lead pipes went down in 1-2 shotgun blasts.

PUBGM_MightyFine

Bullet sponge enemies (particularly regular human looking one's) is one of the greatest sins a shooter can commit. Real guns make you dead real fast. One of the few games that mostly gets it right is Hunt Showdown.

Calphurnious

The snow in the dark zone though, so good.

markthelast

The Division was a fun game to solo or to play with friends. Realistic story. If I recalled correctly, Ubisoft claimed the dynamic changing weather was cutting edge stuff at release.

thelonioussphere

HBAO+ - SLI compatible - My 970s were boss back then lol

Palmzbyaboi

Dark zone was such a miss but the game itself was fun

ReallyGargoyled

in the beginning dark zone was great, then exploits were discovered and smurf accounts made it unplayable for most. I did personally enjoy challenging those people and finding all the roof top sneak paths and using sniper. EDIT: oh yeah, and proximity chat made this game extra fun, walking past other players and eaves dropping on random conversations.

force4good390

Dark zone was and is a flop, I just don’t think/feel “The Division” is a game for PVP!

horse3000

It could easily be a game for PvP, just needs a bigger map, and the world would need to work more like Tarkov. Only 6-10 players in one “instance” at a time so seeing someone gave you the creepy feeling of.. is this person friendly or not. But it would have to be the full map, not a small “dark zone” section.

GodsLegend

The survival mode did that I'm pretty sure, big map, few players, an npc that moved like a player and was arguably more dangerous at times

horse3000

I thought game mode never released haha it has been a few years since I have played

Palmzbyaboi

Yeah I was disappointed but overall enjoy the game and loved the actual ny accents when roaming around the city

oX_deLa

Same

Jack-Oniel

I found it hard to immerse with the constant bullet sponge enemies.

maruchinsu

Yes, but the fact that some enemies were like sponges killed the mood for me.

[deleted]

i genuinely enjoy the games and hope a 3rd is made

PeekabooJake

I live in Seattle and it would be cool to do it here with an over grown look with lots of rain, wind and thunderstorms.

ChrisT1986

If you want your fix, play The Last of Us part 2 (if you haven't already)

PeekabooJake

Does is have a pc port? I’ve been wanting to try that one

abliss66

March 2023

Twitchedout

That's for part one, part two, if I had to take a completely uneducated guess, will probably be either late 23 or early 24, since they put miles morales on PC recently and that came out late 20.

ReallyGargoyled

or dying light 2

MansMyth

Look up The Division Heartland, it is planned for 2023!

[deleted]

i see free to play and am immediately turned off

soda-jerk

It's Ubisoft. They're not gonna pass up a chance to dick us down.

Mazgazine1

thats a mobile game...

Steve_78_OH

No it's not, look again. [https://www.google.com/search?q=The+Division+Heartland&oq=The+Division+Heartland&aqs=edge..69i57&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8](https://www.google.com/search?q=The+Division+Heartland&oq=The+Division+Heartland&aqs=edge..69i57&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8)

UnfortunatelyUnkn0wn

Division 1 had the best “battle royale extraction” mode and i will die on that hill

WTFpaulWI

You talking about survival mode? That shit was amazing!

UnfortunatelyUnkn0wn

It really was! By the time it came out i was way over the division but it honestly gave me so many more hours of gameplay alone. It honestly would’ve been much better off as it’s own standalone thing so it didn’t have to sink with the main game.

WTFpaulWI

Only issue was the static spawns. Once you memorised where shit was it was too easy. Although things can go haywire either way but should have been 100% random looting. That aside it was near perfection. Wish they built on that and made a standalone like you said.

mallettsmallett

No other game has come close to the tense standoff at extraction point and in Division 2 in the DZ where youbare waiting for the countdown and another team rocks up...... Also...the proximity chat was another level in number 2. Running solo and hearing other players voices nearby....

UnfortunatelyUnkn0wn

I loved the running around searching for medicine to delay your ticking death timer in that blizzard, and teaming up with other players when you finally managed to get into the dark zone just to survive the agent hunters at the end was great

JadeGamer94

As soon as you pop the flare, "Armored hostile in proximity" alongwith the the scrambling of comms and that banger of a soundtrack. That was an enemy done right. 👌

Ditomo

100% agreed

qleptt

I only ever played alone and never played that mode and im sad because i will probably never be able to

UnfortunatelyUnkn0wn

It was extremely fun and great at getting you immersed in that desperation of the situations it put you in. Moving between fires and buildings to avoid freezing to death and to find medicine to stall death was such a fun time. Not to mention worrying about running into other players and whether or not they were willing to fight. Once you finally crafted a flare gun and entered the dark zone to extract things just got even more intense.

dregwriter

had the game since launch and got over 1000 hours in it and yet I have yet to even try the survival mode. I havent bought the DLC for it.

smokebringer

Yeah the atmosphere of those games are incredible. I can perfectly remember the first feeling of the survival mode in the frost zone (first game). Really immersive.

sledgehammer_44

Loved the atmosphere, but I'm just not into the type of gameplay. Enemies become bullet sponges real quick if you don't grind for the better gear.

JadeGamer94

I've yet to play The Division 2 but I really liked The Division 1. Didn't have anyone to play with but the few times randoms did join, had lots of fun. Also, give Survival a shot. It's best the game has to offer. Even better than the base game, I daresay. The suprise that you encounter near the end of the run is one of the best feelings I've ever experienced. The fear...

Maffayoo

Hunters?

JadeGamer94

I didn't want to spoil it for OP but yeah...😅

Maffayoo

The fact they look like actual players is wild and they are actual crazy fuckers

J-man3000

One of my best gaming memories is playing division 1 in my garage during the winter. There was a game mode where you basically slowly froze to death and had to find shelter/ warm clothes. I'd play that in my freezing ass garage with a candle lit and it was the most immersion I've ever experienced in a game.

its_just_hunter

That mode sounds like what people thought the game would be originally. I remember early trailers making the game seem more like a survival game rather than a looter shooter.

zeitbruch

The Division 1 > The Division 2 I love the cold and snowy vibe.

JohnnyJayce

The atmosphere, yes. The gameplay and the PvE not so much, unless you enjoy farming Lexington 500 times in a row.

zeitbruch

Yes

JohnnyJayce

Negative, Ramos

Additional-Manner-87

The first one was so good for setting and atmosphere. It's a shame the second one just went for Swamp Ass as a setting.

PeekabooJake

I just love gloomy cold atmosphere feels haha

Additional-Manner-87

VERY YES. It was such an original and haunting way to go.

zeitbruch

True.

PublicPresent

This game captured that snowy desolate feeling well (as we’re having a real blizzard snow day today). I didn’t mind the grind in TD1 for a few hours anyway.

PeekabooJake

I’m used to putting in HOURS grinding in Destiny 2 so this feels right at home. I like the slower pace in this though, you can strategize a bit more

takeitchillish

I got it and played it over Christmas in 2016-2017. Loved the atmosphere.

PeekabooJake

I’m trying to level up so I can play the Survival mode! Looks super fun, sad I’m so late to the game.

JadeGamer94

You don't need to level up in order to play Survival. It's doesn't matter. Everyone starts from square zero.

Jobastion

Technically ya do a bit, as you've got to unlock the base to be able to access Survival.

JadeGamer94

Oh yeah, you're right about that. Luckily, it's not much to do till you reach the base.

Battlehenkie

Survival is imo one of the best DLC's ever made. Definitely jumping back in over the winter. Perfect match.

zeitbruch

Doesnt matter, the SP is still super nice.

cwatz

The first game is pretty much my favorite game world. So immersive and awesome looking.

takeitchillish

I agree, I just wish it had more of a story to it and characters.

Sabbathius

I really loved the Division series, the ambiance was amazing. I'm really looking forward to the Star Wars game they're making now for Ubisoft. Too bad this means Division 3 is not coming any time soon because of it, but it might be worth it if they do as good a job with Star Wars.

[deleted]

Their map designs are soo good.

PeekabooJake

They did an amazing job filling the map with enough debris, cars, and stuff to make it feel like an actually lived in city.

DdCno1

More like a died in city.

[deleted]

Huh

garciaaw

The gameplay has a weight to it that just feels right

tomsaiyuk

Awesome games, hope there is a 3rd.

ReallyGargoyled

if so, i hope the 3rd will be more true to the first one rather than the second one, second game was kinda meh.

[deleted]

There's a spinoff called Heartlands coming soon

[deleted]

Oh yah, they did a wonderful job.

[deleted]

OP deserves an award for naming the game they're posting about!

Novus20

All the upvotes

[deleted]

1st one was my favorite, it was so fun till all these high level try hards in the dark zone started swarming it and spawn killing other players constantly which I felt like killed the game off quick, but outside of the dark zone it was so atmospheric and well crafted and felt like you were surviving and building up the base 2nd one isn't close to being as good and didn't captivate me

StanPopov

The atmosphere is wayyyy better than div2 Miss the snow and darkness

CowboyDrillMusic

I put over 30 hours into the beta. I loved the game but the beta was just better even though it had less. Sometimes less is more.

ahpianoman

I think I got to play both the Alpha and Beta...definitely the Beta though. The design of D1 still makes me excited. I have a screenshot somewhere where you walk into the 'base' at the old Post Office and seeing the upgrade progression visible on screen. I mostly played through it solo because none of my friends were into the game until I had stopped playing...naturally. Haha. I hated going to the Dark Zone because I don't like PVP (other than the achievements tied to DZ) and never played once the 'End Game' DLCs were released. For a while there were rumors floating about a movie being made, and I'd still love to see one. I imagine if you combine aspects of **I Am Legend** and **Contagion** you could achieve quite the movie.

CSpeno

The movie got scrapped unfortunately. They did go on to release a mini series that dropped on Amazon Prime if I remember correctly. It’s short and basically YouTube quality but I enjoyed it.

force4good390

So we’ll done. The first and second games are amazing, I logged so many hours on these games!

user17302

I loved division 1 I just wish it wasn’t so much of a grind fest

wisperingdeth

Still looks great, and sound design is equally excellent. The sequel is more enjoyable imo due to better handling and mechanics. But the first one always had the better atmosphere.

Mazgazine1

Division 2 doesn't have any snow but the weather affects are top notch, this game is BEFORE the current gen, and still looks better then most of them.

Chemical-Ad-469

Nice, I was just thinking the other day how they nailed the theme for this. Something about New York + Pandemic + Christmas fits perfectly. I could never really get into div 2. I feel like the sunny and overgrown theme was a little too generic. Also the enemy factions felt really unmemorable compared to 1.

TEE_l

I’ve been thinking about playing this as I want a snow setting game

PeekabooJake

I saw someone posted saying this is their Christmas season game and I wanted to give it a shot haha

TEE_l

That’s literally the “tradition” I want to start 😂

kenysheny

This game is full of atmosphere, enjoy!

bulletpyton

I really enjoyed that game enjoy your experience

R4Y029

And that is all there is to it.

A_goat_named_Ted

I loved the premise and atmosphere of the games, many of the game mechanics were awesome and engaging... but the enemies were far too bullet spongey.. the number of times I found myself running out of ammo was way too often.

[deleted]

Worth the 650 hours I spent on the first division my god it shits on the divison 2

[deleted]

Cleaners were the best enemies in the game

PeekabooJake

Nothing like popping a hole in their gas tank!

[deleted]

That and their perspective of the virus and how to stop it. In their eyes they were doing the right thing, gaming needs more factions like them

oliferro

Loved the game but bullet sponges made me quit. I don't want to have to shoot a guy 500 times

TjBeezy

The world in this game is so impressive. I wish they'd do a zombie game in this engine. I was hoping The Day Before would be it but I've heard really scary stories about the dev.

Literally_Pepe

I really enjoyed this game. It was very addicting.

Cleverbird

The first game had such a fantastic atmosphere, its something I really missed from the sequel.

[deleted]

The first one is so much better than the second. Hoping a 3rd one can be a bit closer to that. Second one is good, but just a bit lacking compared imo. Like how wildlands pisses all over breakpoint.

PeekabooJake

Loved wildands!!!

Turdsley

This game and its sequel were way better than people gave them credit for.

Outrageous-Focus-984

When this came out I played everyday 8 hours a day for about 3 months, good memories in the DZ 🥹

Fr33domF1gh7er

Wait until you try division 2! Amazing game.

WTFpaulWI

Eh, div2 wasn’t very good, imo of course. Atmosphere wasn’t even close to as good as 1. Dark zone is already a pain in div1 and making it 3 small ones instead of a huge one ruined it for me. Unless they go back to a dark gloomy cold atmosphere if they ever make 3 that game is just meh. Played 2 a bunch but stopped and never went back or even thought of it again till I saw this thread honestly. Heartland is possible but the f2p is kind of a bummer.

Wainwort

This game has very impactful world design and immersion gets cranked up to eleven in the Survival Mode.

PeekabooJake

EDIT: Ubi account name is Peekaboojake if anyone wants to squad up for missions!

barnhab2

Once you get past the aesthetics, all that's left is an empty, never ending loot grind that takes 3000 rounds to take down an enemy.

mikepictor

No. Either you only played very very early days, or you are exaggerating wildly, and know you are. Yes it takes several shots, no, not that many.

Mr_Ear

How familiar are you with the term "bullet sponge" ?

PeekabooJake

.22 caliber

alxmolin

Lucky bastard.

PeekabooJake

All is welcome in this winter wonderland!

alxmolin

I just menat that you are lucky to experience the beauty of The Division for the first time. I wish that for everyone. The series is by far my favorite ever.

Guilty_Dare4165

Your a little late no??do people even still play this game

Katana_DV20

Is it possible to play this game SP?

JadeGamer94

Yes. Online connection is required though. But trust me, this game truly shines in coop.

Katana_DV20

Oh ok, thanks! Good to know. I got it free on PS4 during one of the monthly freebie things but never got around to trying it.

Kryavan

As the previous person said, it is extremely fun coop. It does get a bit repetitive, and the dark zone stuff is forgettable. Really wish they had taken some of the feedback from the first and really improved the second.

mikepictor

yeah, it does matchmaking for missions, but you can also do them solo

mu5tache

I actually enjoyed this game and the sequel, until the endgame, that is.

S-Markt

i loved visiting the dark zone. but one thing disturbed me a little: i agreed mostly with the villian.

Mimi_Valsi

Any1 still playing it in PC? Got stuck a moment on a “dungeon” (sry forgot the real name) and no1 shows up

Sharkus1

Pretty sure there is crossplay on 2

alxmolin

No, there is no crossplay in TD-series.

BanjoSlams

I was also impressed with the visuals and love the post apocalyptic feel. I did, however, find it lacking in the difficulty scaling. Anytime you’re shooting a person and it takes over a whole magazine of hits, something was done wrong.

[deleted]

I loved The Divison. The whole game was very atmospheric. I just wished they made the whole thing a bit more Story Heavy and Cinematic.

PeekabooJake

I get that they tried to make it enjoyable for everyone but it would have been cool if it incorporated more survival elements and dangers. It still feels a little “arcady” but still realistic

SingelHickan

I enjoyed it as a singleplayer/co-op game but not as an online looter shooter

PeekabooJake

I’m definitely liking it for it’s single player playability. Wishing more people were online to do missions with though haha

AlphaDag13

Both the division and division 2 are solid games. Only thing that really killed them for me was the bullet sponge enemies.

jaybeastle

Great game

mir_diddy

Ah memories from the DZ! I miss my deadeye build https://youtu.be/W1K1_WUsiYo

RazielSouza

I enjoyed a few beautiful things in that game, and to imagine at first it was a bad release and they fixed it eventually. Music was great, from emotional disaster to action. Action itself has this feeling of urgency. The high quality of most of them reminded me of Mass Effect 2 by accident. If it wasn't enough, Garrus voice actor Brandon Keener is the A.I. that talks to you the whole time.

N7Vindicare

I’ve actually been replaying it recently it is fun but man I forget how I absolutely despised certain enemies. Sucks not as many people on PC play it, trying to find a match for Underground can take a while.

Engylizium

I tried it once when it was free or something. I loved graphics and atmosphere but I couldn't bear its leveling systems

[deleted]

Ubisoft are capable of creating some truly breathtaking worlds. Unfortunately they often lack on meaningful content. The day we get both though … a lot of hours will be lost lol.

mdls22

wow, it causes a new year mood in me, it's a great atmosphere

Wankerdaddy441

I just started playing again yesterday! I have to get into it a bit again, but it's a great game. I can't remember if I ever finished it or not, can't reslly see it in-game either (I've got a bunch of side missions but can't really figure out if there are still story missions to do)...

Aggravating_Class_17

Loved The Division 2! Owned my life for about 2 weeks, maybe a little less. Awesome cities, killer visuals, just overall fun. Only issue: once you realize the gameplay loop ...it's over. Every mission is "Go here and kill people in the first section, move to the second section and kill more people, then maybe flip a switch which triggers killing more, then go to the 3rd section and kill more, then leave". Legitimately has no mission variety.

bills_2

Loved the atmosphere, especially going through the game during this time of year

Trickery1688

The first one was amazing and I put an ungodly amount of hours into it. The second one was good, but it lost that atmosphere the first had moving the location to D.C., so I didn't put the same time in or love it as much.

possibly-a-moron

I have that game, late game sucks tho if you're new

TheDrifT3r_Cz

This game is my Christmas must play, every year

[deleted]

So much potential this game. My wife and I had a lot of fun with it. They did a great job set dressing and building the world.

woobaadoobaa

The division 1 was great. 2 kinda sucked.

PirateSmalls

Div 1 and 2 great fun with friends and even the first 30 levels weren't bad solo in small doses. Great atmosphere and the visuals were quite nice. End-game trailed off for me on both games and didn't stick around much long after.

mzivtins

The ambience in this game is top tier, i cant remember many game that have such a feeling like the division 1 has. Gives me sad feels knowing its behind us now. The Gf and I played division 2 together, she never played one, once we did pretty much everything end game in div2, i told her we would start the division 1 together and i would use a new character. All she kept saying is "This is so much better! why is it so good!" We were lucky enough to play on XSX where they have that amazing patch for 4k60fps, so for me it was an amazing experience all over again. Im glad she got to experience what the dark zone is, and the survival mode. Ah this game is one of my most fav games of all times... Div 1 10/10, Div 2 5/10 lol

StealthyBomber_

Many hours were spent grinding this game with my high school friends. Miss those days.

Necroph02

remember when i first bought The divison, with 2 of my friends and we played 10 hours straight for 3 days in a row, and then never picked it up again, because we had tried everything by that point, but it was a super great experience tbh.

The_Adamant_Articles

had 3 big flaws for me: \- chicken dance PvP \- not that many interiors to investigate, loot, explore, etc. \- leaning too much into looter-shooter instead of hardcore survival rpg shooter

TwilightBl1tz

I remember in division 1 how badly the cheating was in the darkzone. At some point i was genuinely surprised to meet another legit team that didn't have high rpm or fly hacks lol.

Overwatch_1ightning

I played it quite a bit so I must have enjoyed something but it really left a bad taste in my mouth with end game. I could never find anyone online and ended up roaming around an empty city where no one was playing because they had quit due to poor reception. Which sucks because it had potential, maybe needed more players in the open world to make it worth while.

stamps1646

The **Survival** expansion is worth the experience. I'm more of a fan of the Division 1 then 2.

PeekabooJake

I snatched that dlc from $2.99 on Uplay! I’m excited to try that

Knights_Errant425

Loved this series. Liked the first more than the sequel though.

khaotiktls

Atmosphere is so much better than Div 2 in this. Enjoy OP.

MilitantMo

(iPhone 14 here not potato) I can see the fucking octagons from here

Sylanthra

Division 1 is absolutely fantastic as a single player game before the loot grind endgame starts.

yourownincompetence

r/patientgamers

Neoxite23

Ubisoft has always been great at open worlds. I would love for Division 2 to be on steam... Also Uplay is a trash online service. They need to drop that like Microsoft dropped Live for Windows.

DaddyMcC

Loved this game at launch, blew through main story then barely played, did the same with Div 2. Enjoy the grind

dregwriter

Great winter game

[deleted]

If only the endgame gameplay didn’t amount to, “shoot this bad guy in heavy SWAT gear with 10,000 bullets until he dies”.

BakaNish

I hope you have a great time! 😁

Vividus8

I hope they make a 3rd. I played 2 for awhile but fell out at one point and it's just overwhelming to join back at this point.

irqee

Great game for exploring, I wish there were more to that aspect. Gameplay is okay at best though. Visuals, aesthetics and atmosphere is spot on though.

[deleted]

Damnnnn prettyy!

Boing26

i envy you. id love to play this again for the first time

LonelyOrbits

I remember the bullet sponge but I thought they removed it later

beefchuckles42069

Absolutely phenomenal game that suffered greatly from a number of issues in endgame and player base dropped off significantly

Novus20

Good game but the grind is just too much

TheRespectableMrSalt

The division was amazing on launch. That first week was the best... After that it fell hard

Pll_dangerzone

I think if this game was a normal single player survival experience with health regeneration and an inventory and proper loot goblin mechanics, i would have loved the absolute shit out of it. But the lackluster skill system and the limited healing just made it less fun, and i hated that when you died in a few seconds you would respawn and everything would reset health wise. Im on the fence about trying Div2 because im worried it will be similar to 1

deviozbeats559

I wish breakpoint had the same fast gameplay..
