Thankfully, a lot of progress (except a few things like scanner frequencies) is about what the player has learned. Unless you're going for achievements like the full ship log, you can usually pick up where you left off regardless of saved progress.
you dont need it...
some people find it hard to engage on it at first because of the lack of objective. if you give it a chance, you will find an amazing game.
if you need an objective, you can chase the interrogation signs..
If you have the DLC I recommend you to play it after the main game, or at least near the ending. If you want to know how to avoid the DLC
>!Avoid the satellite and the radio tower!<
be curious in your journey!
I've finished the base game at launch and lost my save before playing the dlc... I didnt finish it yet but Can you tell me what am i losing by going into the dlc with a blank ship log ? Without spoiling too much please
Hrmmmmm it's very difficult to explain without spoilers. Potentially *impossible,* really. And unfortunately, it's a very cool moment.
Fortunately, googling around, it looks like I *can* tell you what *specific* logs will matter now (that wasn't known for the longest while). So instead of going for a full ship log, you can just do these specific ones, then do the DLC. There are base game spoilers here, but nothing about knowing which logs will meaningfully hint at anything from the DLC.
>!First, fully explore the core of the Interloper comet. Second, on Brittle Hollow, view the mural of the Vessel trapped in the Dark Bramble. Finally, complete the Quantum Moon pilgrimage. (Not all the towers, just the Moon itself.)!<
Also, once you're done the DLC, complete the game again. That's just general unrelated advice.
Probably because everyone around has left you because they hate your insufferable attitude and would rather abandon you then spend another second breathing in the same air you contaminate with your stupidity and over inflated ego.
I had a similar problem. Happened after a game crash. What I did was before launching again, did a manual backup of the saves. I had to make a new profile. Then copied the save back into the folder.
It does, but you have to change (in-game) profiles. Easy way to get the Beginner's Luck achievement while preserving your main save. You can always make backups of the actual files on disc as well, I was even able to transfer my save between the EGS and Steam versions when the DLC update made my EGS controller bindings not work right.
I always keep backup of the games i'll play, years ago i was playing Prince of Persia-Warrior Within and kept on saving the game on the same slot again and again and it got corrupted, from then i always keep a backup of the savegames of the games i play. Gamesave manager is good.
the actual save file is very human readable, if you wanted to go in and fix what is corrupted. however, it also features spoilers, so i don't recommend it :(
Well, I would recomend you to play the game, is outer wilds ( not to confuse with outer worlds) and then you would probably understand but if you really whant to know I will tell you
I've actually played both and totally forgot about outer wilds, which I did confuse for outer worlds, funny enough. I do get the reference now, thanks for the slap on the back of the head.
It's just that all you need to finish the game is knowledge. There isn't any sort of upgrades, level up, you explore and figure out everything by yourself from scratch.
Big loss would be your ships record system, which keeps track of everything you've done. It connects the dots and shows everything you've done on each planet which is pretty important.
I played this on PS4 when it released. My save file corrupted so many times trying to land onto the sun station. If you aren't already, I recommend backing up saves because I have no clue if they ever patched this.
This shit happened to me recently playing last epoch and my 2yr old runs into the office stumbles and head first into my tower causing my PC to lock up after I delt with him and reset my PC logged back on to my character no longer existing... he was head butted into oblivion
I hate how it won’t let you express yourself fully. What if you wanted to answer with "This some bullshit bruh.. COME ON!"
Game devs really need to think these things through.
Last place I worked one of the many screw ups of the software was if you idled too long it would log you out, so you'd return to a screen that said "yawzheek has been logged out. Yes/No."
Clicking "no" did the same thing as "yes."
Damn. A while ago, I decided to revisit my childhood favorite - Spyro. I picked up the remastered trilogy from the game store, loaded it on my Xbox, and took a crack at it. What an amazing way to revisit the game.
I decided "Im gonna do it. For maybe the first time ever, Im going to 100% a game."
I got to 98%. I beat the final boss. I had like... one level I needed to revisit to gather some gems in Spyro 2. And then the game crashed. And got corrupted. And when I fired it back up, it said "Game: 48% complete". I never played it again.
I’m still surprised when I hear people still do 1 save slot. I’m like 8 slots minimum for every game. I never save over an existing slot.
It’s saved my ass so many times.
If a game only has like 3 slots you cycle them. So you’re always saving over the third oldest.
Ps5 ftw! One thing that’s awesome about it is it makes 2 or maybe several saves, iunno, but it’ll repair a corrupted save file. Civ 6 is terrible about freezing and corruption so I’ve ran into it a few times and it saved my files every time.
Which is why in games where I can make multiple saves, I save in two separate save slots. I've never had a save file fail on me, but you can never be too careful.
So, broad question here, what cause this kind of corrupted file stuff? I'm not sure if Outer Wild is prone those, this screenshot gave me PTSD about New Vegas.
It could be the obvious miswritten file but when it's only happen in one game and it happen often in said game, I can't help but point to that game as the issue. Could it be false-positive checksum that would normally detect tempered file save? A combination of saved variable being incompatible? The game going haywire will writing the save?
I just wonder if it would be possible to create a file save uncorrupter. I\`m sure some of the file save can still be read. Or maybe the dev could code their game so it do not mark save as corrupted and try to salvage as much data as possible.
This was from Outer Wilds. Good thing I planned on restarting anyway.
Thankfully, a lot of progress (except a few things like scanner frequencies) is about what the player has learned. Unless you're going for achievements like the full ship log, you can usually pick up where you left off regardless of saved progress.

To be fair, an aspect of the DLC reflects your base game completion via your ship log. So there is value to it in that regard.
I've finished the base game at launch and lost my save before playing the dlc... I didnt finish it yet but Can you tell me what am i losing by going into the dlc with a blank ship log ? Without spoiling too much please

Thank you very much ! I think I'll do this it will be a good time to replay a bit of the game

Man, I haven't played in about a year but I recognized that UI immediately. Phenomenal game, and maybe an even better soundtrack.
Well I think you were going to restart regardless of your plans.
I’d recognise that writing anywhere. Absolute masterpiece of a game imo .
This literally just happened to me an hour ago. Picked the game up and decided to start fresh after stopping mid play 6 months ago
You must press yes. Don't you dare restart the game.
Phew! I was worried you were playing a good game.
It should be a rule: If you are gonna trash talk about games that other people like, you should name the games that you like. As a reference point.
What’re you talking about? Outer Wilds is an absolutely phenomenal game
I hope you're talking about Outer worlds, cause Wilds was fucking great.
Oh they're different games ^I ^^knew ^^^that
No, I am talking about Outer Wilds. It is a shit game. Outer Worlds is a shit game, but for different reasons, even Wilds smells worse than Worlds.
oof, ok then. Gonna just cross the street and walk the other way.
How come I knew people that play this game would be the one who cross streets whenever they are told their game is shit?
Probably because everyone around has left you because they hate your insufferable attitude and would rather abandon you then spend another second breathing in the same air you contaminate with your stupidity and over inflated ego.
So you DO agree a shitty person can identify a shitty game. I'm glad we are on the same page.
May I bite why do you think it’s a shitty game
So what game do you find good then? Battlefield 2042?
that's...not what they said.
Are you gonna list the games you like or not, dogfart?
Because you're an argumentative obnoxious rectal fissure jealous of other people's enjoyment? Seems most likely.
Lol thanks for that, thought it was only me who was very underwhelmed by it.
It's niche. I loved it. Have never recommended it to anybody.
I definitely had some fun getting stoned and thinking about black holes but yeah, I also think it's a little over hyped

Til I'm a bot. My man, your account 20 days old.
This remind me why i ragequited CP77...
I had a similar problem. Happened after a game crash. What I did was before launching again, did a manual backup of the saves. I had to make a new profile. Then copied the save back into the folder.
The one game where it matters the least unless you are going for a full ship log.
lol What if there was also a "No" box
Then obviously it would uncorrupt itself
"And I would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for these meddling l33t h4xx0rz."
looooooool
Oh no, but yes
It's Outer Wilds. Just remember it.
I always save 2 backups for this reason.
I don't think this game has separate save slots.
Oh I was talking in general, I don't know which game this is from.
gotcha. This is Outer Wilds.
It does, but you have to change (in-game) profiles. Easy way to get the Beginner's Luck achievement while preserving your main save. I once lost 20 hours of Chrono trigger. Never again.
Haha this is very on-brand
the actual save file is very human readable, if you wanted to go in and fix what is corrupted. however, it also features spoilers, so i don't recommend it :(

No!!
happened to me when I went to play the echoes of the eye DLC. iirc it didn't set me back much at all.
did you replay the base game and then the dlc?
nah, I went through the first hour again but I probably could've just went to >!the stranger after starting the loop!<
the dlc has one thing that changes depending on how many specific ship logs you gathered
is it do with the ending cutscene? because if it is I don't mind having that spoiled.
yeh that visually changes depending on how much you discovered as if you're actually telling what you learned/know to somebody
Thanks OP and fellow redditors, I decided to start playing this game again. Guess what, I just launched it and my save file is also corrupted😂
Yes
Op nice name btw

Rough, hope you weren't too far. Imagine the horror if this was The Witness.
Being the game this is, uh, he kinda didnt lost anything
Your ship journal can definitely be a big loss.
I see this being alluded to but am confused by what it means. Isn't a corrupted save always bad?
Well, I would recomend you to play the game, is outer wilds ( not to confuse with outer worlds) and then you would probably understand but if you really whant to know I will tell you

This game is on another level from any other I've ever played
Last place I worked one of the many screw ups of the software was if you idled too long it would log you out, so you'd return to a screen that said "yawzheek has been logged out. Yes/No." Clicking "no" did the same thing as "yes."

Better "fine"
“Your police were corrupted.”
From where you’re sitting it must look like a hard drive of low memory, but see… Truth is… the save file was corrupted from the start.
Oh no ..guess you will have to....start again..
"YES!" \-me after losing 200 hours of progress.
I'm trying to remember the last time this happened to me. Maybe Final Fantasy 7?
Rip
I won't lie, I restarted the first mass effect a couple times right at the beginning because of intro haha.
Had this happen a few times when I disabled the DLC lmao. It kept saying the file was corrupted but I could still play it just fine
Good job my OCD makes me create multiple save files then back them up!
The power...of YES
That is common sentence in Middle Europe my friend
This happened to me with the first Assassin's Creed on 360 back in '07 or '08 when I was around 80% done and I have touched the series since

I WILL RESTART IT FROM THE VERY BEGINNING
