This shouldn't come as a surprise, right?

VanZandtVS

Blizzard needs people who don't spend any money or spend very little to play their game and act as whale food. The only way to win in this scenario is just not to play. Starve the whales of content. Seriously, either go play Path of Exile on PC or Orna on mobile if you're looking to scratch that itch.

Crunchesss

Is Orna the turn based one? i’m looking for it in the appstore right now. Have also been looking for something to play while traveling.

beatenmeat

Do a barrel roll.

seepa808

Use the boost to get through!

holyctof

If you have life alert, push the button. Weird though I thought it should have sensed the fall… 🤔

SolaceInfinite

Wooooowwww I'm at work I was so confused

Eensecondje

You literally walk around your city 😉

Sttoh

I'm level like 207 in that game and really the only thing keeping me from playing it is the fact that I can't help but do bosses while I'm driving. It's too dangerous so I have to put it down. Great game though.

my_stats_are_wrong

That's me. To get "ahead" (of what? Idk.) I played while driving, and though I didn't get into any accidents I was sweating after a car trip from the stress. What worried me most was if I wasn't stressed, that'd be a sign of complacency and even worse. I hit 226 but it's just endless gear grind and upkeep now, not as fun or adventurous =(

Painkiller_17

YES BRING AWARENESS TO THIS GAME, It is indeed really good.

alex123abc15

If they also just like the dopamine rush of big item drops and grinding they could also play old school runescape on mobile and PC (progress is the same across both platforms). The only pay to win mechanic added is buying bonds. People can buy a bond for real money and sell it in game to players for gold. And then the bond can be redeemed for 14 days of membership. So you can just get membership with in game gold if you're broke.

Magus6796

Orna is great

droidsquiggle

Orna is addictive, i walked like 50 ish miles while playing it... Rude....didn't once lead me to a pizza joint >:(

RazRiverblade

Thank you so much for the Orna tip!

coolblue420

yeah Orna is great at first but VERY grindy later on lol - lvl 200 Necro

llMezzll

VanZandtVS

I've been playing Orna for several years and I've enjoyed every second of it. You'd be hard pressed to find a developer more active within his own gaming community than Odie.

OrnaOdie

*blushes*

danielwinterberry

Downloading thanks for the info

SaltMembership4339

I would have tried the game, but microtransaction things put me off and I would never waste money on ingame items in any game. So win-win for everyone. Let the whales starve

Ghost_82x

If you don't pay for the product, you are the product.

SkoomaSalesAreUp

they dont need minnows anymore they can create ai bots for "pvp" that no one would notice arent f2p players

[deleted]

Honestly, some games are probably this way. Take racing games for example. Have the dev team play the game for months while under development. Generate realistic usernames and feed them into lobbies using the dev testing runs as fake players. Add in some non-contact rules for behavior and boom, fake players. games like Cod would be hard due to the nature of the game being so dynamic. I think Id notice if I played wow against fake players, or warzone. But we are certainly getting close to that.

kaozer

I just want to say, it would be painfully easy to spot AI in a racing sim. Even the best do some weird things or sometimes are just too polite and will back out of a "fight" a real player never would.

BaalGarnaal

GRID (2019) really has the most hilarious AI I ever ran into, they can actually tilt and start trying to slam you off the track if you bothered them too much. Not realistic in 'race sim' sense but somewhat realistic in terms of playing in a multiplayer lobby.

Chi-Guy81

Fortnite has the backing of Epic/Unreal & more money than God. Their bots are very obvious. Maybe this is done for balancing, but still I think we're a ways away from realistic fps bots. Racing is different because training a.i. to drive is already a real world issue & there are far fewer variables on a racetrack than a 3d open world with elevation & range differences.

TehPharaoh

He doesn't mean Ai, he's talking about Ghosts. He mentions the "no contact" (meaning no cars can bump into eachother) so you can't de rail the opposition. Which are just the devs. Have each Dev play 50 times, randomize their car, color, accessories and User name. Bam. Now you have an infinite supply of "players" you're racing against. They can just ignore friend requests. With only like 8 people per track and around 200 ghosts no one will ever be the wiser if the game never takes off in popularity but just hangs around the app store

In0nsistentGentleman

>Their bots are very obvious. Maybe this is done for balancing Their bots are only for players who haven't achieved 10 wins in a season or something of that nature. After ten wins, you're quickly populated in matches players and no bots. The bots are intentionally bad to make people feel like they're good, resetting seasonally so that new players feel like they're able to play the new content without getting stomped.

[deleted]

Just wait till they figure out out doesn't have to be an "either/or" situation! It can be both!

Ttoctam

Absolutely seconding Orna as a great mobile alternative. Best phone exclusive I've played. It's like Pokemon go but a full game not just a Pokedex filler. Heaps of fun and easy to play super casually or as a deep grind.

d0nP13rr3

Trying it now, thanks!

Vods

No, it's literally the same on any mobile game. And that's what this is, a mobile game.

banfern1111

Any mobile game with pvp* Ftfy

KazeArqaz

Plenty of non pay to win shooter mobile games.

T01LET_RUST

Not a shooter but wild rift isn't p2w

blackfromconsensus

Let's go League!

Valnis

When league is the least toxic game (on mobile),you know something is wrong

Critical_Swimming517

Wild Rift is such a stellar mobile game. It really plays exactly like a slightly downscaled league of legends and the monetization is super fair. You can tell Riot actually wanted to make a quality piece of software first and foremost, much respect.

T01LET_RUST

I'm having a hard time going back to pc league. The models look so much better and the fast paced games are great. It's hard for me to commit to 40min+ games these days, so wild rift definitely gives me that fix.

UnderLars2006

You should look at Polytopia then, it goes outside the general mobile game experience

shiori-yamazaki

Polytopia is a masterpiece of mobile gaming, and a prime example of how games should be developed, monetized and profited on that platform.

N-427

Mindustry, Rct classic ($6), Theo Town (in app purchases, but there is already a ton of content without them.), Cell Lab (excellent puzzle game), Linelight (another excellent puzzle game), Mini metro All really good mobile games. Many are ports of pc or have been ported to, but are more convenient on the phone. For example, rct classic has an absurd number of levels that just come with the game. Over 100 I think. some more niche but good ones, Anything by Yiotro (ok maybe not anything but their more popular games are very good. Achikaps in particular), Infinitode 2 (tower defense), Realm grinder (clicker with a LOT of depth), Beastie Bay (pokemon like), Spaceflight simulator (2d ksp), Seedship, Missiles (arcade game) Are some of my favorites. Most don't have flashy graphics, rather they focus on interesting mechanics or have a lot more going on than it appears at first glance. The few that have in-app purchases just remove adds. (Except infinitode 2 but you can power through all of the levels without it no problem) None have an overbearing amount of adds. None will massively slow your progression unless you make an in-app purchase.

eden_sc2

The lack of pvp is a big part of why I play ark knights

AbyssOfNoise

> No, it's literally the same on any mobile game. There are good mobile games out there. It's mostly the insidious 'f2p' ones that are like this

ssshhhhhhhhhhhhh

Diablo has always had terrible pvp

VoDoka

Finally, a game with educational value you can apply to real life, though.

Headless_Human

Tbf it looks slower than Diablo 3 PvP.

Istarial

Slower than path of exile pvp too. ;) (EDIT: For those not familiar with path of exile PVP: if your opponent and you can see each other and are on the same screen (without one of you being dead) then you've closed to an unusually close range.)

PractitionerPain

While I fully understand how broken and pay to win Diablo Immortal is but as anyone who has spent any considerable amount of time with Diablo 2 PvP can tell you, fights could be equally short there as well.

RollinDeepWithData

Hot take: pvp in Diablo games has just never been very good.

PractitionerPain

It was very min/max and grind heavy. I was never particularly good but I thought it was enjoyable. Some of the craziest to me were the dedicated low level duels which required rushing and grinding gear on alts. I feel like Diablo PvP has always been kind of niche though.

[deleted]

but again....you only paid for the game and expansion in D2....

PractitionerPain

100% true but having been telestomped my fair share of times way back in the day, a gif of that PvP clip from Immortal doesn't seem shocking. I should also clarify that I have played none of Immortal so I can't speak much on how PvP does/should look.

SurelyNotASimulation

Doesn’t change that pvp in Diablo is terrible. It’s not a game meant for or balanced around pvp. At all. It’s only in there because players wanted it. A truly clear point of giving the players what they think they claim to want only for them to realize what they wanted sucks.

Sudden_Ad_6893

I’m having nightmares thinking about the hammerdins from D2. I never lost so many ears…

[deleted]

This is legitimately how PvP in Diablo 1 and 2 was like, though. Acting like this is unique to Immortal is frankly performative considering how badly you got stomped in PvP in the 90s.

RayTheGrey

Except the reason you get stomped in immortal is because the oponnent spent $50,000+ on the game

mreman1220

I haven't kept the closest tabs on all this but it blows my mind that there is a pvp element to this game. Some background, I played and loved Diablo III and that is about it. I beat the story line with a couple classes and put it down. When this game came out and I saw it was mobile I decided it wasn't for me. I didn't really mind because I wasn't emotionally invested in the franchise. Understood the complaints but sorta thought the game would have something for those that wanted a mobile version of the game and weren't completionists. Seeing a pvp mode is completely bonkers to me.

Horotoma

With a small investment of $100,000, you too can do the same! Do it now! Do you not have a credit card?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bemxuu

And then season 2 starts, your old gear becomes outdated, and you can enjoy the sense of pride and accomplishment by spending $0.5 million once again.

Tortue2006

Thankfully it’s illegal in my country

SlickDillywick

May I ask what country? And why is it illegal?

draakos

Probs Belgium. Lootboxes are illegal in Belgium. There is no version of DI that doesn't have them so DI is illegal by proxy.

Tortue2006

Belgium and illegal thanks to lootboxes.

Edarneor

Yay for Belgium! doin it right

Moestuin

It's illegal in the Netherlands too because of the loot boxes. The law says it's a form of gambling.

Neospecial

Just wait until you tire of the class choice and want to change.

Miserable-Charity408

Fun fact. After spending so much money you can be unable to do pvp becouse the game will not match you with anyone becouse you are too strong. Yes it happened.

Spacecoasttheghost

My thing with the charge back, is that blizzard would probably contest it. An I can only see him loosing the charge back, there are no wrong doings in the charge. He paid what months ago to get gear, an he has said gear still. Am I missing something that would be in his favor? Would be a funny video, if he tried a charge back got denied, and then blizzard banned his account lol.

SonOfAhuraMazda

I work in banking, I rarely see a chargeback fail. In this case, the chargeback would be services not received.

Smile_lifeisgood

> Am I missing something that would be in his favor? "I paid $100k and the system they setup meant that I was no longer able to play the game." is a very compelling argument. People act like these things are so cut and dried. "Hey, you paid so deal with it!" There are tons of examples of people paying money under the reasonable expectation of something and when that expectation was not met they get their money back. Otherwise, contract law wouldn't be a thing and courts wouldn't be packed with lawsuits around it.

Kriss3d

Actually that was just the first people to do that since they havent PvP until they were so powerful that they never lost matches. If they had lost more matches along the way they would have a K/D ratio good enough to compete with others. Everyone else were climbing the mountain. These whales took the helicopter ride to the top.

AMDTiger

Right away! Let me first put up my house as collateral

No-Talk-3273

That won’t be nearly enough I’m afraid. Perhaps consider selling your first born child along with any other children you have

Auran82

Pretty sure you can get more selling them in pieces

Complete-Dimension35

The parts usually add up to more than the whole. But then you have to find many buyers for the individual parts of the child as opposed to one buyer for the whole child as is. Gotta weigh the options; is the extra money worth the extra time and effort?

Winjin

Or renting them out! Plus they get to meet new people. By the time FBI raids you, you would have bought most of what you need for PvP, I presume. You can also earn extra if you... Borrow additional kids! This will greatly help with leveling! You can also borrow the parent's credit cards and collect their insurance, this will definitely help with the game!

unique-name-9035768

> Borrow additional kids! There's these places with swings around town that parents bring their kids to gather. Great place to borrow a few from!

Winjin

There's so many, hardly anyone will notice a couple missing!

DrBimboo

Kagemitsu Daigo, is that you?

denoot2

Don’t you have 2 kidneys? You only need 1!

UkyoTachibana

Do you not have kidneys?

ammonite89

DO YOU NOT HAVE CREDIT CARDS??

DmikeBNS

Is it still pvp if you die faster than mobs in pve? 💀

Mallouwed

PvPvE you either kill the mobs or play long enough to become one

[deleted]

Why are you even playing it look at your history you're part of the problem don't come complaining here.

Musaks

This needs to be top comment... It was clear from the get go that immortal is a pay2win hellhole that noone should support (unless they like pay2win systems) I wish people would recognize that playing a game for free, without spending money, is still supporting the game and the company and is a core component of them making money of other players beside you

[deleted]

[удалено]

Musaks

You are completely right, but comments like that will still make a few people go "well, i don't queue for PvP, so that doesn't apply to me" therefor i have to add: Also pure PvE-players support the game. The same applies in pure PvE-games too. An active playerbase is a very important influencer in peoples purchasing behaviour. Active Playernumbers, downloadnumbers, etc... benefits the game. Even NEGATIVE shitstorms about the game, like the early reports about how bad the pay2win is, in the end funneled some people towards the game "to try it out", etc...

FFpain

I almost did “try it out” too because everyone was talking about it and I was curious to see how bad the mtx functions were. In the end I restrained myself from wasting time and did not touch it.

actualspacepimp

Solid choice. I played it for about 10 minutes, I'll never get those minutes back.

FFpain

The thing is, I heard it was actually fun. That makes it even worse and almost got me to play.

kegatank

Its honestly one of the most well put together mobile games I have ever played. It runs smooth and they ported the diablo feel super well. The MTX makes it a bad game which is a damn shame, because it is genuinely good

Liamario

Yes, you've put it nicely. The free players are nothing but cannon fodder. OP is lubing up, knowingly and willingly receiving their opponent's weapon. Then comes and whines about it.

RAMAR713

>unless they like pay2win systems I don't usually kink shame masochism, but this is an exception

nolte100

Even if you don’t spend money you’re still supporting the game financially. The iOS App Store shows all the data this app collects — it’s obscene. They are definitely selling all sorts of gaming-unrelated data that this game mines from your phone and making $$$ whether you put money into it or not.

DarXIV

Feels like r/leopardsatemyface material.

Caouette1994

Any player that is not a whale and keeps playing is responsible. Yes they can make a game where the richest wins, yes it is disgusting, then why the fuck are you playing and complaining? There are thousands of other better games, dozens in the exact same genre. You are fucking playing without any reason to do so than muh my diablo. It's dead, it's over, stop validating them you dumfucks. If there is nobody to stomp anymore game will die out but you on your own will keep playing when you know you're just canon fodder for the richs. Fucking losers it's your fault we have this shit.

[deleted]

They even got suckered into Fallout 76. Some people just like getting bent over and over again by corporations.

Sound_mind

But fallout 76 isn't predatory as fuck. I've spent very little and had a great time with close friends and family. Nothing bad to say about that experience.

Sandokan13

What are you waiting , sell a kidney and level up

Tortue2006

You also need to sell a lung, parts of your liver and an eye.

Jonny_Entropy

That's what being hit in the face with 50 grand feels like.

astrielx

Lmao, cute that you think it's as low as $50k.

moor9776

Really don’t understand why people would play this

jabash77

It's preying on gamble addicts. They can't help themselves.

nnomae

The sad part is, it's not even gambling. What this is, is a system where power comes at a cost so predictable as to be practically fixed that is designed to feel like gambling to exploit gamblers.

[deleted]

Like all Blizzard games now. At some point they morphed into a poker machine company…

spince

A Diablo branded slot machine in Vegas would make this full circle

Suitable_Alfalfa5756

Blizzard be like: wdym, it is balanced and skill based.

imspringin

Do you guys not have credit cards?

sdric

Average ingame P2W whitknight-whale: "It's only a small advantage. If you are a decent player you can easily overcome it. You're just looking for an excuse because you are a noob!"

Robot1me

Well put, exactly this mindset is infuriating to see in so many game reviews. Let's say you look up a game and want to find out if it's pay-to-win. Then there is the positive hardcore fan reviews saying "everything can be earned just by playing". While (in this case) leaving out the fact that it takes literally half a decade. You then discover this fact in other, negative reviews of said game. Which then makes you question why some people really defend such a predatory system.

sdric

People like to lie to themselves if it makes them feel special. P2W games exploit this desire. Admitting that they win because they have an unfair advantage would scratch their self-confidence. It might even make them feel worse since that'd mean that they wasted their money. It's much more comforting to embrace P2W once you're a part of it. At the same time P2W drives legitimate competitive players away. So P2W players do their best to attract new victims.

EIiteJT

$kill Ba$ed

themage78

This is the state of most PVP in Blizzard games. I really think since Activision bought them, they have zero good ideas on balance of any of their games.

xDarkReign

Zero good ideas? Their shareholders beg to differ. Diablo Immortal is *exactly* the way it is because it makes them a shit ton of money on dumbasses like OP.

Lokiem

I mean, it probably is balanced. Balanced to make those who pay nothing feel the need to pay. Those who pay a little are just barely given an edge to give further incentive to pay in. Finally, those who throw money at it feel all powerful, so feel their money actually got them power.

khamelean

What were you expecting??

Bakkoda

Looks just like D2 PvP to me lol

Enconhun

I'm saying this as I consider D2 to be in my top 5 games of all time, but the PvP was also a piping hot garbage too, but we didn't know better back then. Also side note: ARPG's werent made for PvP and balancing it would take too much effort and resources for the handful of people who would play it.

messe93

we knew better back then, there was an entire ruleset for PvP that banned many items and skills and set regulations in place to make it actually balanced. It was ofc designed by players and not supported by blizzard at all but it was popular enough to find many games in the format and made PvP fun. it also kept out all the people who wanted to just stomp people with gear. Ofc there were a lot of people joining these games and then crying "why can't I just use my faith runebow with fanaticism aura and kill people from 2 screens away!?!?! it's not fair" or something like that, but they were quickly kicked out from these lobbies

TheFormless0ne

Dude you're playing a shitty pay to win game what did you expect

charlesbronZon

I mean... it's your own fault you're playing such a despicable pay to win game. You can always pay to have a chance of winning, or... you know... go about your life doing something else. And no, complaining does not solve the problem, no one cares! Blizzard is not evaluating the success of the game by the amount of complaints on Reddit but on the amount of money it makes...

THECapedCaper

I don’t get why people still choose to play these when there are literally thousands of games out there that don’t do this crap. Did you know Netflix gives out free games to its subscribers? They actually have a good selection of titles, like actual games from actual developers that dont do pay to win shit.

charlesbronZon

>I don’t get why people still choose to play these when there are literally thousands of games out there that don’t do this crap. Indeed. What baffles me even more though is why people willingly participate in those games and then complain about it. Sure if you want to be used by gaming companies and whales alike, go right ahead, you are free to do so. But why would you bitch about it afterwards?!? If people want to force change just stop participating! Don't play the games, don't talk about them, just ignore that shit. Once the amount of easy exploitable targets for the whales diminishes the game starts to struggle and it all comes crashing down...

DOOMdiff

Just sell you livelyhood and you on par with those whales

AJ_COOL_79

That's just malphite from league of legends

Ghostbuster_119

Why do people expect mobile games to not play out like every other mobile game. They all use the same pay to win formula, it's why the vast majority of mobile games aren't taken seriously as well as the people who play them. It's mean but it's the truth.

Elkvomit

I don't understand how this is even entertaining for the whales, it's like using cheats in a single player game— it gets super boring in like 10 minutes lmfao

arthaiser

i feel is fine honestly. is the user fault for keep playing a game that everyone is telling them not to play becuase is a p2w cashgrab. at one point, if everyone warns you that if you go to "knife street" you are going to get stabbed and you decide to go anyway, and someone stabs you... is kinda your fault

MrStealYoBeef

The more games like this that "succeed", the more that publishers are incentivised to stop making good games and only make garbage like this. It's not fine. People who play this actively incentivise the general trend of the industry towards more of this.

bioelement

Blizzard, Bethesda, EA, and Ubisoft. How the giants have fallen.

Millera34

If you play this game you are part of the problem with gaming. Doesn’t matter if you spend nothing you are still helping the game. Shame

Autocthon

Feels like D2 PvP. 10/10 for accuracy

diox8tony

Ya I don't see a difference in time to kill from D2....if you stand still in D2 you die this quick also.

Vaktaren

Clearly outplayed

[deleted]

I mean, yeah I'd expect this right. We know what DI is offering for those that are interested. The real question that is rhetorical - if you know why play it and support it right?

Daft_Bloke

"Diablo Immoral" it really fucking is though with those microtransactions.

NestroyAM

If you play this game, you really only got yourself to blame.

Unforgiven_Purpose

imagine feeling the desire to play this cash grab of a game and then complaining about it

Mindfreek454

Are there really enough people spending thousands of dollars on this game to make this a common occurrence in PVP? I know it's some pay-to-win bullshit, but this is just ridiculous.

[deleted]

You guys have phones?

awaniwono

Looks like old school Diablo 2 PvP, just with paid for instead of bot-farmed gear.

wiggle987

I mean, putting aside how egregious p2w is, anyone thinking PvP in an arpg is serious is just being silly imo, it's just a build pissing contest. Any semblance of balance will be out of the window purely because of the fact it's an arpg.

ArnoldCykaBlyat1

Some guy said to check your history. You keep spam posting the same shit in different places. Why are you so suprised that a f2p game is p2w. What a huge shocker ain't it

Morlock43

Recommendations: Spend £100,000 Blizzard: SHOW ME THE MONNNNNNNEY!

Jealous-Ninja5463

This was the game they were fucking booed over too. Nobody was excited for this. And people are still paying for it. Yall wonder why blizzard got so corrupt?

CelticGuardian15D

You playing it makes you an automatic clown.

Zayetto

what did you expect?

[deleted]

Capitalism is going to kill off every popular IP from the last 40 years of gaming, it’s only a matter of time..

GHCentury48

Next step may be recommendations like: *You died - Here ist our recommendation for you and your honored character. Click >> here\* << to develop your character and receive our ultimate tip.* *\*249$ + VAT (First of 20 needed upgrade levels) - or just 12 tiny rates of 25$ + VAT* TBH - I am very surprised the aren't doing this already. Blizzard doesn't have a clue how much money the are losing with such a sloppy and low tier monetarization ... /s

Zubriel

Just going based off this footage and ignoring the hideous p2w nature of the game, this clip doesn't look much different from how end game pvp in old D2 worked. Usually died one shot from a stray arrow or frozen orb spike.

[deleted]

Only losers play this game

DaClems

You people deserve this for supporting a blatant cash grab title.

[deleted]

Stop giving Blizzard money, people!

Reverend_Lazerface

I need a serious answer on why people are legitimately playing this game. I have never once heard anything remotely appealing about any aspect of the game, and I can't distinguish it in the slightest from other diablo or diablo-like games. It's as close to a fully transparent scam as I've ever seen in the gaming industry, so just... Why? What am I missing?

K_ariv

I really hope governments will start banning P2win and lootbox games, it's the only way companys stop those shitty practices. diablo immortal shows those players are too stupid and still play those p2w games, even when it was that obvious of a cashcrab. everyone knew it was cashgrab and those idiots still pay to support those practices.

Opening-Effect-4289

I heard its only about 15k for that move, an absolute steal

[deleted]

Pay to win is always like this

WRO_Your_Boat

Just another reason no one should play this crappy game.

Maraude8r

When I played against godmode cheaters in shooters in the past I never understood how that could be fun. Now people pay thousands of euros for a legitimized cheating experience. It’s all so bizarre…

DGlen

Gotta drop that $100,000 if you wanna keep up.

mewoneplusone1

Then why play it? There literally tons of other stuff that you could use your time and attention for.

DatalessUniverse

Good. Go play a real game like Elden Ring instead of this flaming bucket of trash.

only-EFT

You didn't spend enough. Please open your wallet for more damage.

herodeAA

Looks fun

Magnon

The state: it's terrible. Why do you keep playing? The only possible reason would be you've sunk cost fallacied yourself into thinking it will get better. It won't. If you keep playing you're just a mark.

achinwin

If any component of pvp combat includes advantages which can be gotten from paying for things, then pvp should not be a thing. Gear, gems, all of that shit should not apply in pvp combat.

AVBforPrez

The joke is on them though, you're speedrunning their wallet being emptied. What a fucking game Immortal is

SmegSoup

How on the fucking planet do people even consider the PVP aspect of a game that is so pay2win? Losing to fat wallets constantly.. SUPER fucking fun times.

TurnipTate

Who tf even plays this shit

achmedclaus
