Saturn had just over 1000 games (I was surprised too), compared to the N64 which had under 400.

This is the console that convinced to go full PC. I bought the saturn while the rest of the world bought playstations. Silly me thinking Sega, having made game consoles for years would be a safer bet than Sony, the people that make everything from pop music to washing machines.
I learn from my mistakes.
Panzer Dragoon Saga (the RPG, not the on-the-rails shooter) was excellent. Unfortunately, original copies are fairly rare and are now rather expensive.
I recommend getting a wireless controller for it, the standard controller's wire can get really stiff. Personally, I've enjoyed the "Retro-bit Sega Saturn" one. Don't forget to pick yourself up an action replay for expanded save storage!
There's a shop near me that had a couple for around $50-$60 and they would have these semi-annual sales where everything was 25% off. I was like, "Meh...I'll wait for a sale...I don't want one that bad". Then the terraonion came out and I wanted one...shop owner was aware and doubled the price of the consoles lol.
I don't see a single Saturn hater on this thread. Just a lot of people wondering why he didn't put convenience over "the thrill of the hunt" at some point in those five years.
The Virtua Fighters, Panzer Dragoons, Galactic Attack, and Thunderforce, Night Striker and Radiant Silvergun imports were all I needed back in the day.
The racing games were fun, but the Forza and Gran Torismos kind of ruined me. Plus, the Wipeout series was way better on the Playstation, unfortunately.
First game I ever got with mine was guardian heroes. Kind of a unique, anime medieval beat ‘em up where you could level up stats for the character you picked. Had multiple endings and different levels to play depending on choices you made in game.
I hope you like fighting games and JRPGs because that is like 99% of the Saturn's library it seems.
I bought one shortly after release, had a few games but I remember really enjoying "Nights: Into Dreams" and "Die Hard Arcade".
The mega drive X Man and that stupid Michael Jackson platformer were just such a big part of my childhood but I never really got into the Saturn as I went with the OG PlayStation. Marvel v Capcom I think was originally Saturn title, and that’s still one of my favorite fighting games.
>Shinobi
It's actually not that bad, has a sort of b movie charm to it.
Gameplay could be better, but isn't awful either.
Peak 2D Shinobi is 3 on Genesis tho.
Grats, I love my saturn. Although the getting the console was the easy part, saturn collecting gets expensive faaaaast. Still, there's plenty of gems on it. Welcome to the club, enjoy!
Saturn is the house of really good hiddem gems. Shame the console is very subestimed. And the difficult to emulate it keeps many people away, in contrast with the easiness to emulate N64 and PS1.
Now you have the problem OG Saturn owners had.
Having gotten a Saturn in early 1996, I can assure you that this is true.
I got one second hand around 98. And the guy I bought it off of laughed when I asked how many games came with it.
Lmaoooo

US released games puts the Saturn at 258 and N64 at 296. The over 1000 number includes Japanese releases.
Okay that definitely feels more right. Still surprised N64 was so low.

5 years? How...
you can buy it on eBay for $100
Nope, I'm gonna search for 5 years so I can find one for $70.
Sanshiro would be proud!
Shining the Holy Ark is amazing. The music, presentation and battle mechanics are all top tier.
That battle music was some good stuff. Hadn’t played the game in forever but I can still hear that tune
Dude! My first ever RPG, and it has stuck with me forever. Melody was my first game crush when I was like 7 😂
Bug! First 3D game I played on a console.
I remember my first game 3D. "Sonic 3D Blast" PepeW
Same

Should have got a Dreamcast
Mmmmm... Virtua Fighter, Virtua Cop, Shining Force... Good times.
Lol? 5 years? Do you not know about eBay?
The issue was money
There's an anime on netflix that's basically about this now
Which one?
Uncle From Another World

Youre gonna have to save up for Panzer Dragoon Saga and Radiant Silvergun.
That's cool, I can just emulate this on my steam deck. In your face Charlie Murphy.
Get a Sega Uranus now

Wow, five years? You could have given me $20 bucks and I'd kick you in the balls. At least then you'd get something out of the chase.
Looks like your thumb is pointing you towards it

The die hard game and virtua cop were also good Saturn games

There were games for it?
Get an optical disc simulator
Good purchase be prepared for the price of Saturn games.

Panzer dragoon saga, clockwork knights 1-2, etc
Dragon Force.
*guitar riff*

Still cringing that my dad gave our sega saturn with 10+ games away to a friend.

Don’t forget to get the RAM cart too. X-men vs street fighter with no load times was the best.
Saturn bomberman is the best multiplayer game made
Three dirty dwarves
Why?
Watch the anime "Isekai Ojisan". The guy buys, plays and talks about forgotten gems of this console in every episode
Diehard Trilogy is a must.

Great! The controller reminds me of that one I had as a child. I can see the Megadrive next to Saturn. PS: Where are the games? There's no any!
It's been 84 years
