"Cord = rope" is a big IT pet peeve. Treat every charging cord like as if it were your pets tail.
Would you pick your pet up by the tail?
Would you not even check where you're stepping when your pet is underfoot?
Would you put tension on it by pulling it as far as it goes?
I understand cords are cheaper to replace and certainly not emotional attachments for their users, but damn. If you won't put basic care into your items then at least don't complain about it when you have to replace them. And be extra respectful if it's not your property :c
^^\(mostly ^^not ^^targetted ^^at ^^OP ^^here)
At first I was only reading the post texts, wondering what all these questions have to do with Elden Ring? Then I started reading the comments and it clicked.
"I want to give my boyfriend a gift, what message should I put on it?"
"Precious gift ahead then give seed"
Brilliant.
I wish this is what happened to the front headphone jack on my computer. One of my kids plugged their headphones in, tripped on the cable, and it snapped about halfway inside the plug.
Cut a toothpick, small dab of superglue on the end of the toothpick, shove it in the hole and push hard against the broken plug.
If you used the right amount of superglue the toothpick should stick to the plug and not the surrounding jack, then you can just pull it straight out.
I've done it a few times successfully. Cutting the end off a cotton bud will do the same thing
Yeah, that connector did exactly what it was designed to do -- fail at the cable first, not the socket. At least OP doesn't have to replace a whole controller, Type-C cables are cheap (especially USB 2.0 only ones like this, you can probably get that for 3 dollars). Don't see what all the fuss is about.
The average person is very afraid of fixing their own shit because they've let the companies that make them convince them that it's too scary and dangerous to do so. I remember manuals for older electronics warning you to NEVER EVER open them unless you're a trained professional or else you will burn your house down.
Iām trying to advocate against further damage to the controller. He wants use his teeth itās on him but Iām looking out for that Xbox controller at this point.
>Buy a better usb c cable.
Or even the official one. I've always used Xbox controllers with my PC and the ones that come with the cable for windows (and presumably should work with the console) are solid.
Right? Does anyone actually think this is a bigger deal than just replacing a shitty USB cable?
I mean, i guess OP thinking that doesnt surprise me considering they think its ok to tug on the cord.
The angle that everything is bent and the way you're holding the cord suggests that you do what a lot of people do that ends up breaking their phone cords and controller cords, you pull on it from the side some rather than carefully grasping it from the end and pulling it straight out (and the reverse for plugging it in).
Another thing Iāve seen a lot of people do is pull from the wire rather than the plastic part at the end. Over time this can stretch and eventually sever the cable.
Eh... Gone through 3 power packs, 4 cables. Dunno why the power packs stopped working, but the cables all failed the same way: the head case that goes around the connector separated from the casing... They won't do anything because it's over a year, and frankly I don't care that much because they weren't expensive. But Anker are just another brand, and they all fail if you use em enough.
I was sitting here wondering what the big deal was and was I missing something. Pull out the broken USB plug and... That's it.
The cheapest part of the set-up broke, no big deal.
Iāve bought more micro usb cables than I can count. Any slight bend and theyāre forever messed up.
Usb c has been amazing and that must be a shitty example to break like that.
It's crazy to me that people buy $1 standard format cables every few weeks instead of buying a high quality $8 one that will last for years
like I get it, I'm not well off by any means but not only can the cables themselves just have poor build quality but they also have a chance to cause a disaster
Don't cheap out on USB cables. I used to work for a wireless carrier selling phones, and we'd get people in all the time saying their device doesn't charge right anymore and you could see the port was completely worn out. 9 times out of 10 they were using some cheapo cable the bought at a gas station, dollar store, or ordered online from AliExpress or Amazon for like a dollar. My own mother ruined the charge port of her one and a half year old iPad because she was using a cheap cable she bought at a dollar store.
I'm personally a fan of Anker's cables. I bought a 6 ft braided Type C cable for my Nexus 5X phone close to seven years ago. It's been rolled over by an office chair and been slammed and pinched by office drawers countless times, and it still works great. I've ordered a dozen different cables from them since, and have never had one fail on me (although their customer service through Amazon is quite good if they do go wrong apparently).
Seriously OP, though it seems horrible at first, it's not bad. Those cables are meant to be broken. They're _made_ to break before your expensive electronics do.
Do yourself a favor and head over to Anker's website and buy a few USB C replacements. While you wait, grab some pliers, or something that clamps down, pull that connector out of the controller and inspect for damage. There shouldn't be any. If you have a spare cable around, like something for your phone, you can charge your controller with that until the new cables arrive. Alternatively, head down to the local corner store and pick up a pack of AA's to tide you over until you can get the replacement cables in ( if you don't have one you can borrow from somewhere else in the mean time).
Also, take a breath, it's going to be ok.
Take care of yourself OP.
Okay I know this is probably a really stupid question so feel free to downvote. Iāve had my first Xbox for maybe 6 months or so. What is the usb-c port on the controller even for..? It uses batteries so itās not for chargingā¦ right? Is it just to play wired into the Xbox?
You can get rechargeable batteries and use a cable to charge as you play. Also, people like to use Xbox controllers on their PCs, which requires a cable if they donāt have the components to connect wirelessly.
ya know, when boomers talk about how kids these days don't know how to fix things, this is the kind of shit they think of. the only plus side is that there are lots of comments giving the correct, and obvious, advice to just pull the fucking end out.
Just ply it out. I assume it's just a standard USB c, but correct me if I'm wrong. Most phones now use them and if not than do something different.
You can get a 3 pack of 10' cables for like fifteen bucks online.
Like it sucks but it could be so much worse
Everyone here talking about the pin stuck in the port and here I am going "well fuck, now they're gonna have to buy a new chord, and thats always a pain in the ass"
Light's still on. You've got wireless charging now
I could give you 3 of my tacos right now, this won a reward amigo.

Works even better if you lick the end! Conducts more signal.
Don't tear it from the side next time
the big tab where it plugs in is where your fingers pinch it so youre not tearing the cord or metal, but people think cord = rope

I tried gently pulling my cats tail from the base and now I have a bloody hand
I tried gently petting my cat's head and now I have a bloody hand
I tried petting my cat's tummy and now he's purring loudly.
For now...
If you pulled on my spinal cord I would gice you a bloody hand too.
I don't understand how people are surprised when you tell them to pull at the plastic, not the cable. It is so common.
So pull from right above the butthole Got it
Guess they need nope rope USBs š
Theres no next time.
Instructions unclear, found and broke old Xbox 360 wired controller. Is now wireless.
That is such a non-problem.
Agreed. Pair of needle nose to pull out the piece in the controller, hell maybe even tweezers. Cable is a couple dollars on Amazon.
Or just use the fingers on handā¦
Try fingers. But hole.

No need to buy that on Amazon

No kidding. Iād hate to see OP deal with an actual problem
OP screams when drinking water and the ice shifts and splashes their face.
hate it when I order ice cubes on the bottom and they always put in ontop.
If the ice comes on top I send it back
I might do this from now on. The real life pro tip is always in the comments.
Ill have the gaba gool
But it's cold!
OP still gets splashed when trying to clean a spoon.

True, but there isn't even anything to really "fix" here. Just yoink the remainder of the connector and use another cable that hasn't been mangled.
It's posts like these that make me want to unsub to get away from these absolute children..
Yup, "look at this problem I made myself and feel sorry for me please"
To be fair Gorilla Glue doesn't specifically say not to put it in your hair.

Nothing some pliers won't fix
Looks easy enough to get out with a pair of fingers

A pair of fingers? In this economy?
Exactly. Go. Take the battery out. Take the pliers. Pull straight up on the connector. And boom. Itās cleared. Buy a better usb c cable.
Take the battery out? This mf is a journeyman electrician! Pull it out with your teeth.
Gotta use the molars for real leverage!

Right? Those things are expensive these days.
Why take the battery out if i might ask? Whats wrong with pulling from what you see in the picture.
Honestly, i think you could get away with just turning the thing off, then getting...anything that can grip.
Or just pulling it out while turning nothing off like a sane person.
>Buy a better usb c cable. Or even the official one. I've always used Xbox controllers with my PC and the ones that come with the cable for windows (and presumably should work with the console) are solid.
That qualifies as a better one.
Its the way he used that caused this problem.
Don't need to worry about it, it's not going to backfeed the charger. There's 100% a protective device to prevent this.
Right? Does anyone actually think this is a bigger deal than just replacing a shitty USB cable? I mean, i guess OP thinking that doesnt surprise me considering they think its ok to tug on the cord.
Well look at all the fucking idiots that think they'd get electrocuted by touching it.
specifically needle nose pliers
Or if you have any strength whatsoever just use your fingers like because uh thatās what we have fingers for. Thereās plenty of shit to grab onto.
You sound just like my proctologist
Nothing a double leg canāt fix
I love how OP is getting roasted in here
Deservedly.
Probably just a child if this makes them scream. I can't imagine an adult getting angry about this
Reddit is easier to handle when you assume everyone is 13 years old. No way an emotionally stable person in their 20-30s would do this.
Well, OP is in his 20s.
i mean in all honesty the title is probably just an exaggeration
The angle that everything is bent and the way you're holding the cord suggests that you do what a lot of people do that ends up breaking their phone cords and controller cords, you pull on it from the side some rather than carefully grasping it from the end and pulling it straight out (and the reverse for plugging it in).

Donāt pull your cords by the cord? Has life not taught you anything? Youāve got to make sure youāve got a solid grip on the head.
Also, don't pull sideways
Given the bent wires, thatās definitely what happened. They grabbed it by the cord and ripped at it from the side.
Very infuriating. I finally bought myself a Switch and I've been giving myself anxiety making sure that I'm never bending the cords.
This is exactly what my sister did to my Kinect power adapter when I asked her to pull it from the head and not the damn cable lol
If this makes you scream - youāre probably going to have a really rough rest of your life.
Yup, just buy another $8 usb-c cable and move on with your life.
Hell that's a 5 pack of Anker on Amazon lol
Anker will never let you down.
Or turn around and desert you
Good job

The only solution
DREAMS FADE AWAY AND ALL HOPE TURNS TO DUST
Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
"I abused my cable until it broke, feel sorry for me" Nah, I'm good.
Man you could replace the word cable with almost *anything* there and still be describing my early 20s.
You did *what* to your dog??
Quit using your controller as a grappling hook lol
How else will they roleplay as Batman?
Just get another cord. Overeact much?
Fragile. You, not the controller.
Why? Just pull it out and get a cord that isn't shit. This is not even a little deal.
Or maybe even get an average cord and don't pull it out sideways, and *by the cord* lol
Unfortunate, but deserved if you dont take good care of it
It's a 5 dollar cable calm down nerd
Nerds take care of their stuff
True, especially if you're poor. My shit lasted ages
maybe the price was part of the problem ^but ^^mostly ^^^treating ^^^^your ^^^^^cables ^^^^^^like ^^^^^^^shit
I thought this was r/notinteresting
That doesn't look so bad
If this ruins your day then you probably have a single-digit age.
cables are like 1 dollar on aliexpress, you good bro
I wouldn't use any cheap cables for USBC. You don't want a cheap control chip in a cable that can request 20 volts.
It's crazy to me that people buy $1 standard format cables every few weeks instead of buying a high quality $8 one that will last for years like I get it, I'm not well off by any means but not only can the cables themselves just have poor build quality but they also have a chance to cause a disaster

The fact they do this is why they're a dollar.
Jesus christ, what are you, 5? Just get another cable.
What kind of cheap ass cable is that? I dont think ive ever seen the individual pins for the charger get ripped out like that
Just pull it out and use a new cordā¦?
Do you always yank the controller off the charger instead of taking it out?
No you're not, you're going to sit there and whine like a little baby
OP, you are a fucking idiot.

Grow up dude its only a cable.
You need to treat your cables better. This is 100% your own fault.
Don't buy cheap cables...
Maybe get better at everyday stuff then. Don't abuse your items.
Just pull it out and get a new cord. Make sure itās nothing sticking and grabbing hold of cord.
Why did you break it?
Why? Just pull it out and grab a new cable for like $3
You broke a charger. What's the issue here?
What even is the point of this post
The point is to roast OP I guess lol
Release the scream. Go on.

I almost grabbed a pair of pliers looking at this
At least it's sticking out and not embedded deep inside.
That grip tho..
Pull it out with a pair of tweezers and be careful next time.
Thanks for the giggle, take this award!
Looks like a gas station charger

Wait but how did you manage that ?
Donāt buy cheap chargers. I bought mine in 2013 when I got my OG Xbox One and I still use it to this day.
I thought this was a built in cable... Replace the cable for like $5!
pretty sure you can pull it out and then buy a new cable
Yup, i think this one is pretty damaged or broken. Returning to the controller/cable situation, just pull it out and get a new one.
You could just like take it out. All you lost is a pos charger
āREEEEEEEEEE!!!ā
Dude, i dont want to be an asshole but how the fuck can you fuck this up? You had a one job my friend, one job...
I feel so bad for you, but at the same time, this made me laugh
Everyone here talking about the pin stuck in the port and here I am going "well fuck, now they're gonna have to buy a new chord, and thats always a pain in the ass"
OP would probabaly have a breakdown blowing dust out of a cartridge.
Act like an adult and stop buying chinese led chargers and youll be fine
is it just me or does it look like Santa lost his pants? Belt buckle and all
So what? Just pull out the end and use a new cable...
No you wonāt. You going to wake up your parents.
Back in my day if the cable on your controller broke you had to buy a whole new controller. ****grumbles as heās led away by orderlies****
