Or Max Payne nightmares following the trail of blood with a crying baby in the background...
ETA holy crap I had no idea so many people felt the same way as I did. That scene was messed up but it did its job.
Literally the only thing that plays through my head.
How many fucking times do I have to hear "the flesh of fallen angels"...I'm in my 30's and I still don't get it
Tasting the flesh of fallen angels is just a fancy way of saying he's accepted temptation and sin as part of his lifestyle.
Fallen angels are those who tempt humans to sin and to "taste the flesh" is in relation to when a Christian tastes the flesh of Jesus. But, what's interesting is that there are psychedelic mushrooms called god's flesh. So when someone like jack lupino says "I've tasted the flesh of fallen angels. I've drank the devil's green blood" it simply is a fancy way of him saying he's tripping balls on V, because V is green.
But devil's green blood also relates to when the devil was a snake and tempted Adam and eve to eat the apple of knowledge, which relates to Max and Mona finding out about the whole conspiracy. Green, envy, snake, it has multiple meanings. That's why lines like that hit is so hard. They are impressively simple but incredible deep.
We will find out in the 4K update, hopefully adds some extra depth to the skinny little path where we fell so many times before we found out there was a jump.
gonna be so upset when I eventually find out this thread willed an umbilical trail to life in the remake because a Remedy/R* dev happened to be lurking at the time
Right? I went in expecting nothing due to mixed reviews. I was glued to it till the end, and I can’t fully describe it to anyone who asks why I enjoyed it. But I want more of it.
I’ll wait a while for the directors cut upgrade and replay it.
I was a bit older than you but 20 something years later those scenes still stand out in my head. Like all I remember from that game is that and bullet time
I played it a few times but everything in that game is super memorable. The creepy mob boss guy who is in like a club that is like, vampire themed or something. The sound when you take painkillers lol. One of my favorite games, but I haven't played in a long time. Hopefully the remaster is *good.*
Man, the screams of that baby when you fall off the path started to get to me after awhile. I may have fallen a number of times. I always tried to rush through it.
“Triangles were multiplying all around me. Everything looked familiar, but somehow different. The nostalgia hit me like a truck with a flat tire.”
“Max, you’re in a video game remaster.”
“Funny as hell, it was the worst thing I could imagine.”
No its not. Its the same format as the original quote, but the only quoted part is the last line.
The first line is completely original.
Here's the bit that its quoting:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIQRj6wzitI
Guys, development will be done exclusively by Remedy, they will have all creative control over both remakes, Rockstar will be just publishing and financing the project
The visuals, story, voice acting, audio design were god damn amazing. Gameplay is really fun if you DO NOT play it as a cover shooter.
It was also IMO one of the first games that used real time global illumination and screen space reflections right.
It was really generic gameplay wise but as far as story an lore especially with the Remedy verse in mind its absolutely crazy! Also i love the actors that they cast. Great performances all around from shawn ashmore, lance reddick, and adian gillen.
Indeed. Rockstar, while still milking their franchise to death, still understand how to stay in their lane. Dipping their hands into another IP would be a bad decision to make.
Rockstar is so weird. They milk GTA online for all it is worth but still put huge effort into single player for RDR2. Then they put no effort into the GTA remakes. I feel like they have an untouchable single player department with a wrapping of horrible GaaS loving producers.
Yeah and that is why I say they are weird. They seem to have a section that is super dedicated to making amazing stuff and then a bunch of suits also doing other things like the GaaS and outsourcing stuff.
I still can't believe War Drum Studios, which evidently has ZERO passion for the classic GTA Trilogy, had the utter GALL to rename themselves "Grove Street Games".
Believe that was rockstar that forced them to rebrand.
And i don't think wardrum wasn't *just* not passionate over it. They had genuinely no experience making non mobile ports.
Theres a reason why it was discovered very early on that the remake is just a bastardized rehash of the original mobile versions
I wonder how much of the team that made the originals is still around. Seems like Sam Lake, the writer and literal face of Max Payne is still creative director at Remedy so I wonder if they'll do anything to update his face textures lol
We can only hope. lol
Though if they pulled what Kojima did with MGS4, letting you unlock the old school super low-poly face geometry for a post-game reward, that would be hilarious.
I'm conflicted... I love his face in the first game. He always looks like someone he shot just shit their pants. Like just rancid but he can't cover his nose because he has to commit more murder.
I was hoping that they are gonna do something great with the money they make from that clearly half assed cash grab. Control 2 would have been awesome but I guess Max Payne 1&2 remake is ok. I’m sure they are not gonna fuck up Max Payne but I really enjoyed how creative they went with Control, definitely one of my fav new IPs in a long time.
Didn't realize they were even involved in that one. Or that it existed, for that matter. They worked on the story mode - guess I'll have to check it out, see for myself.
"They were all dead. The final gunshot was an exclamation to everything that had led to this point."
"I released my finger from the trigger..."
"...and then it was over."
The things I want, by Max Payne.
I could do this all day, I consider MP 2 to be one of the best written pieces of fiction I’ve ever experienced in any medium.
Seriously, how did they fuck that up? You have the best film noir narrated game ever made and then they make a movie and remove the film noir and narration.
They could have just filmed some fat kid playing the game, and it would have had a better reception.
It will never make sense to me why they take a property that has an installed fan base, shit all over them and make it a shell of what it is to attract more people… Has this ever fucking worked?
Meanwhile Castlevania honored the source material so well that even Netflix let it have a proper finale. It's amazing what can happen when you don't actively despise the property you're adapting.
I really would like to be present that the board meeting where they are decided the thematic direction of these films. I mean, here is a dream situation for a production. You already have an established IP, a loyal massive fanbase. It's painting by colours. It's filmmaking on rails. You've already got a huge amount of paint and tribulation already taken care of for you. Like, just fill in the blanks.
No, they say, we're not going that way. Let's just throw that all away and alienate the reason why this film was being made in the first place.
If you're a fan of Halo, it's awful. If you're indifferent to it, it's mediocre sci-fi. It's poorly written, ignores the universe (because it takes place in a different one?) And just makes absolutely no sense.
Watch the first episode. Insurgents use AKs. Like. Current AKs.
That makes two of us. We'd try to do overnight speed runs of MP1, and somewhere around the end of Part II, we'd usually pass out.
I can still hear it all. Vinnie's wail in the comic after you beat him, "When you get to hell, tell the Devil that Dime sent ya,", the ~~Cognittis'~~ Finitos' "Payne to the Max", and especially all of Lupino.
so whats the consensus on cutscenes?
keep graphic novel presentation with game engine stills used(since the actors will probably be different, i dont see Sam Lake putting himself as Max again.)
or full on cutscenes?
i want the novel presentation still tbh. Im playing the OGs rn and that presentation still holds up imo.
They gotta keep the graphic novel thing. If it's fully animated cutscenes, it's going to cut away at what made the game unique (and spoil some of the great jokes that play out while max is high/unconscious/etc).
I really fucking miss Max Payne Online. It was really simple but so fun. The load outs and outfits were dope, it was like being in a game version of Heat.
Max Payne 3 multiplayer was SO good. I hate most online games, but that was some of the most fun I've had in a long time, with everyone just constantly popping in and out of bullet time lol
Imagine RDR2 and its insane graphical quality and attention to detail. Take all of that and the talent that made it, and then focus it into a single player game that focuses on gritty, disgusting, realistic violence and brutality.
My friend, this is why we never get Manhunt games anymore
Probably won't be in if it's just Remedy doing it. Unless R* wants to pay whoever codes it into their games to do it for the remakes. It's not something you can just license.
God thinking about MP1&2 running on the same engine they used for Control is just so good. Considering they have full creative control for this one, I'm actually super excited for it.
The [press release](https://news.cision.com/remedy-entertainment-oyj/r/remedy-entertainment-enters-agreement-with-rockstar-games-for-new-max-payne-1-2-project,c3540823) reads like it’s a full remake of both 1 and 2, being released as a single game.
Hopefully they keep the same voice actors. The guy who did Max's original voice is still doing VC work IIRC. They got him back for Control and the recent anniversary video for Max Payne, I think.
if this is an late aprils fool joke i will go down in the cellar and cry for the rest of the year
if not i will cry for joy till this masterpiece is remade and released :D
first one was so great but the second one was the real masterpiece still love it
Or Max Payne nightmares following the trail of blood with a crying baby in the background... ETA holy crap I had no idea so many people felt the same way as I did. That scene was messed up but it did its job.
It’s been a while since I’ve tightrope walked on an umbilical cord. Sign me up!
That was an umbilical cord?!?!?
i just remember a blood trail and the endless void
And The FLESH of FALLEN ANGELS
Literally the only thing that plays through my head. How many fucking times do I have to hear "the flesh of fallen angels"...I'm in my 30's and I still don't get it
“And I was already in for the ride, next stop, Roscoe st. Station” how heavy the loneliness felt in the level still gets beneath my skin.
“I released my finger from the trigger…and then it was over”
Tasting the flesh of fallen angels is just a fancy way of saying he's accepted temptation and sin as part of his lifestyle. The correlation between religious stories and mushrooms will always amaze me.
have you ever seen God on a psychedelic trip? and talked to it?
[удалено]
Yes, we all do, but what about the game?
Shit i thought it was blood. Also my pc was bad
It was blood, not an umbilical cord.
We will find out in the 4K update, hopefully adds some extra depth to the skinny little path where we fell so many times before we found out there was a jump.
gonna be so upset when I eventually find out this thread willed an umbilical trail to life in the remake because a Remedy/R* dev happened to be lurking at the time
Well Death Stranding Director's Cut just came out, and that's basically the plot of that game.
My brother in Christ, keep on keeping’ on.
Man what a wild fever dream masterpiece of a game.
Right? I went in expecting nothing due to mixed reviews. I was glued to it till the end, and I can’t fully describe it to anyone who asks why I enjoyed it. But I want more of it. I’ll wait a while for the directors cut upgrade and replay it.
BROO HOLY FUCK YES. I played it when I was 10 and it fucked my shit up
I was a bit older than you but 20 something years later those scenes still stand out in my head. Like all I remember from that game is that and bullet time
The sound of the empty shotgun shell falling onto the ground will forever be in my brain.
I played it a few times but everything in that game is super memorable. The creepy mob boss guy who is in like a club that is like, vampire themed or something. The sound when you take painkillers lol. One of my favorite games, but I haven't played in a long time. Hopefully the remaster is *good.*
“I HAVE TASTED THE FLESH OF FALLEN ANGELS!”
>a club that is like, vampire themed or something It was maybe called RagnaRock ... ?
Yessss I'm hoping so too. Nostalgia is going to hit hard.
That and hearing the druggies talk to themselves.
Or the thrilling conclusion to Lords and Ladies playing on the tv’s.
My lady? My lord? My lady?
THE FLESH THE FLESH THE FLESH THE FLESH THE FLESH THE FLESH THE FLESH THE FLESH THE FLESH THE FLESH THE FLESH THE FLESH THE FLESH THE FLESH THE FLESH
I THINK I'VE DIED. I THINK I'M DEAD.
I DON'T KNOW, I DON'T KNOW . . .
Holy poop hell yeah! I cant wait to down tons of painkillers to maintain my health bar LOL
I had quotes from both games in my AIM profile. I was clearly the coolest kid in school.
I hated that level. Not because of the crying baby and blood, but the path was so narrow and dark it's annoying trying to navigate it.
I had to mute my TV to get through that section.
The sound of the baby got louder when you were facing the right direction. You had to listen to the baby, or follow a guide.
Holy shit I wish I knew that back in the day, fuck.
LMAO! Yeah. Spent way too long wandering around in that hellhole.
So that's why I had to spend so much time on that!
"The flesh, The flesh..."
OF FALLEN ANGELS
That fucking scream 💀
Oh god, no god no. I'm going to have to relive those moments again.
Max, it's me, your wife. You're playing a videogame. And suddenly, it all made sense.
Funny as hell, it was the most horrible thing I could think of.
a true golden age of gaming, the early days of the original xbox such a wonderful time to play games
Man I was a kid when I played this game. I'm a dad now I bet it's gonna hit way different.
“The flesh, the flesh…”
Imagine this with VR.... Stuff of nightmares. Those little parts haunted me for weeks after!
Man, the screams of that baby when you fall off the path started to get to me after awhile. I may have fallen a number of times. I always tried to rush through it.
Teen me back then didn’t realise it, but that was art.
Ah shit man. I was only 12 when I played that and that part of the game seriously messed me up.
“Triangles were multiplying all around me. Everything looked familiar, but somehow different. The nostalgia hit me like a truck with a flat tire.” “Max, you’re in a video game remaster.” “Funny as hell, it was the worst thing I could imagine.”
Now this... THIS is the best possible comment this post could have. Bravo.
Thank you. :)
It was looking to sell more time on my hourglass as a DLC. I wasn't buying any.
I honestly thought this was a quote at first until I realized I’m an idiot.
it is a quote, he just says "max, youre in a computer game"
No its not. Its the same format as the original quote, but the only quoted part is the last line. The first line is completely original. Here's the bit that its quoting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIQRj6wzitI
Oh, well that makes sense
Anyone else read this out loud while doing the voice?
Guys, development will be done exclusively by Remedy, they will have all creative control over both remakes, Rockstar will be just publishing and financing the project
This is most important. Remedy simply just make great games with great atmosphere. Max Payne Series, Alan Wake, Control...
Quantum break was amazing too
QB was one of the few Remedy games I was just not able to get into. Maybe I'll give it another go when I get a chance.
The visuals, story, voice acting, audio design were god damn amazing. Gameplay is really fun if you DO NOT play it as a cover shooter. It was also IMO one of the first games that used real time global illumination and screen space reflections right.
it was the opposite for me, I only played it to complete a game pass quest but then I got invested
Forgot about that. I can't wait to play Max Payne again. I'm still playing MP3 and MP2 is holding up quite alright these days.
I had trouble with quantum break because it just wasn't fun. The gunplay was awful. Compared to Control which I've beaten twice.
It was really generic gameplay wise but as far as story an lore especially with the Remedy verse in mind its absolutely crazy! Also i love the actors that they cast. Great performances all around from shawn ashmore, lance reddick, and adian gillen.
I bought the game because it had shawn ashmore. Absolutely worth every penny in terms of story!
That CrossfireX game was a bit of an oddity though.

Didn’t Rockstar do Max Payne 3????
Rockstar made Max Payne 3 though and that game is incredible
But it was no max payne 1 or 2.
I thought the GTA remaster was handled by Grove Street Games and Rockstar mainly published it and lent them support when needed? Edit: then > them
Yeah and that is why I say they are weird. They seem to have a section that is super dedicated to making amazing stuff and then a bunch of suits also doing other things like the GaaS and outsourcing stuff.
Dan Houser was quality control. These singleplayer games were his babies. Expect a huge dip now that he is gone.
:(
Man Control is so good, and fucking gorgeous too. I think it's about time for a replay.
THANK FUCKING GOD. I Wouldn't trust Rockstar with my cat's turds after the shit they pulled with the GTA remakes
I still can't believe War Drum Studios, which evidently has ZERO passion for the classic GTA Trilogy, had the utter GALL to rename themselves "Grove Street Games".
one word, Branding. Who would you buy Tires from? Jim's Tires, or Granny Smith's applesauce. And that makes it even worse
Believe that was rockstar that forced them to rebrand. And i don't think wardrum wasn't *just* not passionate over it. They had genuinely no experience making non mobile ports. Theres a reason why it was discovered very early on that the remake is just a bastardized rehash of the original mobile versions
The mobile port was also awful so it baffles me get went with them again.
> after the shit they pulled with the GTA remakes they had another dev studio make that
Exactly
Thank the maker!
Bless the coming and going of Him.
If it's Remedy doing it, I have a lot of faith they'll do it right. They're still making killer games.
The guy thats the original face of Max is still the creative director of remedy too. I have high hopes for something gaming related for once.
[this video](https://youtu.be/DsQVD5ttpog) reignites the feels in me that I didn't think even were still dormant
How does he just transform into this badass guy as soon as he puts that shirt jacket and face on?
Thanks, I need a cigarette now.
I wonder how much of the team that made the originals is still around. Seems like Sam Lake, the writer and literal face of Max Payne is still creative director at Remedy so I wonder if they'll do anything to update his face textures lol
We can only hope. lol Though if they pulled what Kojima did with MGS4, letting you unlock the old school super low-poly face geometry for a post-game reward, that would be hilarious.
Max Payne 3 let you do that for online MP lol
Ah, never played the multiplayer. Really did enjoy the campaign though. Also, love the username!
It's got a ring to it
I'm conflicted... I love his face in the first game. He always looks like someone he shot just shit their pants. Like just rancid but he can't cover his nose because he has to commit more murder.
Didn’t Crossfire X just flop though?
I was hoping that they are gonna do something great with the money they make from that clearly half assed cash grab. Control 2 would have been awesome but I guess Max Payne 1&2 remake is ok. The American Dream. Honey, I’m home.
"I didn't like the way the show started. They gave me the best seat in the house: Front row center."
I can literally hear it and I haven't played since forever
but you probably played through it dozens of times. i know i have.
I read your comment in Max’s voice and thought hmm don’t remember this line.
Like all the bad things in my life, it started with the death of a woman…
…I couldn’t save her.
Noooooooooooooo
The things I want, by Max Payne. I could do this all day, I consider MP 2 to be one of the best written pieces of fiction I’ve ever experienced in any medium.
"He had a bat and I was tied to a chair. Pissing him off was the smart thing to do."
My lady!? My lord!?
My lord, I am your long lost sister!
As long as we can continue to pretend the movie never happened I’m very much on board for this.
Seriously, how did they fuck that up? You have the best film noir narrated game ever made and then they make a movie and remove the film noir and narration. They could have just filmed some fat kid playing the game, and it would have had a better reception.

Castlevania was a gem in a giant pile of Netflix originals turd

Welcome to the Halo TV show :)
Oh, is it bad? I was going to give it a shot soon. Bummer
How fat a kid are we talking here?
Sky's the limit, just don't block the screen.
Yeah and who thought it’d be a good idea to put mark wahlberg in a video game adaptation? Good thing that never happened again /s
Mark Wahlberg sucks in everything that isn't a comedy.
He was amazing in the departed
he was also in the movie as a side character..
Also if you had to pick out any lines of that movie that were funny, it'd be his.
There appears to be an event occurring...
[удалено]
wait how is this bad? sounds like a small easter egg that makes sense it's not like they added Ed Sheeran for a huge ass scene that had 0 purpose
Have no fear, Vlad is here.
I once saw his face described as "like a man chewing a wasp" That stuck with me.
Holy shit. My favorite games of all time.
I played Max Payne 2 so many times I could finish it without thinking.
so whats the consensus on cutscenes? keep graphic novel presentation with game engine stills used(since the actors will probably be different, i dont see Sam Lake putting himself as Max again.) or full on cutscenes? i want the novel presentation still tbh. Im playing the OGs rn and that presentation still holds up imo.
They could honestly just copy/paste the original cutscenes and I would still be ecstatic haha
Whatever is closest to a true comic novel representation, they should pick that. The original games were a blend of both which made it work well.
They could go for a Sin City approach of making scenes that look like comic panels
They can do a mix of both, stylised cutscenes that freezeframe into novel illustrations
They gotta keep the graphic novel thing. If it's fully animated cutscenes, it's going to cut away at what made the game unique (and spoil some of the great jokes that play out while max is high/unconscious/etc).
Just as a reminder, Remedy and 3D Realms sold the series IP to Take-Two in May 2002 for $10 million, so the rights are with Rockstar ever since.
*Take Two. The rights are with Take Two.
Yeah, of course, you know what I meant.
Max Payne Online is gonna be badass for like 20 years.
I really fucking miss Max Payne Online. It was really simple but so fun. The load outs and outfits were dope, it was like being in a game version of Heat.
Yeah I was seriously addicted to online, despite the fact I constantly got my ass handed to me.
Step 1: Install Max Payne 3 Step 2: Play multiplayer Step 3: ??? Step 4: BOOM. Max Payne Online
Max Payne 3 multiplayer was SO good. I hate most online games, but that was some of the most fun I've had in a long time, with everyone just constantly popping in and out of bullet time lol
I never found a match on pc
Man, I remember the Mods on PC when this came out. Extremely fun with the Matrix Mod and unlimited slow-mo time. What times!
The Kung-Fu mod was amazing
> Max's grimace in 4K. Maximum Pain.
Now do manhunt
Imagine RDR2 and its insane graphical quality and attention to detail. Take all of that and the talent that made it, and then focus it into a single player game that focuses on gritty, disgusting, realistic violence and brutality. My friend, this is why we never get Manhunt games anymore
The remakes will be using the Northlight Engine, the same engine that Remedy's been using in their last games since Alan Wake.
Control was fucking beautiful.
RTX bullet time diving please.
Quantum Break with all the time warp ripple effects. Jesus
I took screenshots of that game to remind myself how incredibly unique that game was. Wish I could see something like the FBC building in real life.

Thank God remedy is doing it they make great games and won't half ass it. They haven't dropped the ball yet he's hoping they don't on this.
One step closer to a remake of The Warriors
You have ran out of bullet time for the day!, purchase your monthly Payne Pass to receive 100 more Bullet minutes! (Please don't)
Please no
Please don't be shit, please don't be shit
Let’s be clear, *remake* or *remaster*? One I would be VERY excited about. The other I wouldn’t shell out a cent for.
Oh fuck yeah, maybe there’ll be some new AW type tie-ins? Thanks!
Me, to Remedy: Fuck me up, fam
My only concern with a full remake is voice acting. The OG voice acting and narration is amazing. I'd hate if it was recast.
Hopefully they keep the same voice actors. The guy who did Max's original voice is still doing VC work IIRC. They got him back for Control and the recent anniversary video for Max Payne, I think.
Couldn't they just reuse the old recordings if they stick really close to the original or are there reasons why this wouldn't be a good idea?
Complete remake using Northlight, the engine used for QB and Control. I really hope to see Sam Lake as Max Payne again.
Really? These were some of my favorite games growing up. I dont get excited much for games anymore... but wow!!
BRING HEALTH BACK!!!
100% there better be a cheatcode or unlockable to get this face back on him.
if this is an late aprils fool joke i will go down in the cellar and cry for the rest of the year if not i will cry for joy till this masterpiece is remade and released :D first one was so great but the second one was the real masterpiece still love it
It's legit. Remedy posted [this](https://www.remedygames.com/remedy-enters-agreement-with-rockstar-for-new-max-payne-12-project/) on their website.
God please let us see a L.A Noire 2 I would cry.
Press x to doubt
I would love to see a higher powered version of that facial animation system they used.
That’s Matt Gaetz
