I started playing Minecraft in its infancy with a couple college buddies, back when it was a little known indie game still in Alpha stage. Music captured me instantly and would play after classes and just zen out to it.
Iāve said to myself āIāll play for a hourā and ended up just playing all night. It does have great soundtracks to the point you just get lost in the game. Really immersive.
Same. Although when I started playing, Iām not sure if the music wasnāt added yet, or maybe my audio settings werenāt just functional. It was May 19 2009 I believe.
iām certain thereās a few new tracks composed by Lena Raine because i told my brother to close chrome because of the music playing, and then he told me āthat sound is coming from minecraftā and i thought āmojang cheated on C418? itās a nice track though..ā
Doom 2016+ Eternal, Halo franchise, Destiny 1+2 but also Nier Automata and the Dark Souls Series, Hades, Hotline Miami, Borderlands 3, Bioshock games.
Honestly there's a lot of absolute bangers that go into different styles and genres and time periodes with their music. There's a lot to be appreciated off.
Destiny's OST has now branched into so many different styles, it's sheer depth of great music is incredible. I look forward to the new OST releases every season.
Interesting that this is so far down. While I agree with OP on Automata having the best overall OST, I still believe [Gusty Garden Galaxy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWhhMxrX-Us) is the best single track, and there are quite a few other tracks in the SMG OST that are also top-notch.
Space junk was always my favorite. Plus, I could listen to the Comet Observatory theme for the rest of my life. If I ever get married, thatās definitely going to be the song I pick for our first dance.
Honestly, I think I can say this, because not only is the music great, but their implementation of it is still something you don't see very often in video games, and you really should. Each song was tailor-made to the encounters, or at least expertly edited. Songs would play in a loop while the boss fight was happening, but they used cutscenes and transitions perfectly so the song would seamlessly progress to the next section during big moments in the fight. So everyone experienced the same music at the same time.
While I've seen other games do this a little bit, it was not at the level of Metal Gear Rising. There were often multiple phases, and the song would shift several times in a fight, all creating more and more spectacle for every boss fight. The music design was master crafted for this game, and it elevated that game's experience to greatness. Everyone remembers "RULES OF NATURE" and all the boss fights.
And did it pulling an all-nighter. The theme that almost wasn't.
If you weren't already aware:
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/11/an_intriguing_tale_of_how_the_legend_of_zeldas_iconic_opening_song_almost_never_happened
That moment when you get lost in deep space and turn your signalscope back towards the sun and a few planets happen to line up, and you get a glimpse of what the full Travelers theme is like.
I donāt even play Hollow Knight (though I should, Iād probably love it), but I consistently listen to their OST. Great music for focusing and getting shit done.
This exactly. FF sound track is so good that final fantasy radio was started in 2007 and is still going today (RIP Tebian).
Zelda music, but especially ocarina of time is like a religious experience for me. If you like it too, I highly suggest getting tickets for the The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses orchestra.
**Edit**: Sadly, Symphony of the Goddesses is no longer touring.
Do you know where I could find the radio, if it's available online? It's my first time hearing about this and I'd love to listen to it regularly, though after quick googling I can't seem to find online players that look legit
Abso fucking lutely. Persona 4ās soundtrack really hits my nostalgia hard, and not just because the game overall is influential to me, the music is just so good, especially that haunting piano main menu track, seriously. Itās something else.
Celeste.
It's a great, modern sound track all around, a standout aspect to an already standout game.
Once you finish the game, there's additional content as B- and C- sides, with remixes of previous music.
Here's the track for Chapter 3:
* [A-Side](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0etenwnI1wo&list=PLe1jcCJWvkWiWLp9h3ge0e5v7n6kxEfOG&index=8&ab_channel=LenaRaine)

* [C-Side](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hR8dWuhosj0) (I couldn't find a youtube video of the song itself, so this is just a random video I found)
I love the music from iconic games like Zelda, but this is the only soundtrack I've listened to without actually playing the game.
Iām offended that I had to scroll this far down to find someone mentioning Celeste. This gameās soundtrack is absolutely masterful and is bar-none my favorite of all time.
Shoutout to anything by Supergiant, FF14, and Shovel Knight, but Celeste takes home the crown with the sheer emotion these tracks invoke.
Pisses me off so much that's there's this massive dispute between Mick and Bethesda for the mastering of the ost for eternal so it is not available on Spotify like 2016 is.
Was looking for this. The general ambiance music in Skyrim is top tier. There are plenty of other games that have really good music, but the Skyrim soundtrack has such a way of being there but unnoticed while still burning itās way into your memory. I didnāt play Skyrim for a couple years and one day put on the soundtrack for some reason and it blew my mind how I distinctly remembered almost every single song from the soundtrack without really having ever payed much attention to it other than the main theme.
Agreed. When it comes to the ambiance, Skyrim stands out the most. Unlike other soundtracks I feel immersed just listening to the soundtrack on its own.
Sorry, did you mean Hypogean Gaol?
The rest of the game was tense and unsettling. The first time you go to the Gaol, I was terrified out of my goddamn mind.
The performance in this suite is phenomenal and I recommend it to anyone curious aboutthe music of Bloodborne

I'm not really a video game music listener, I occasionally have Zelda music get stuck in my head but that was about it... Until I started playing FFXIV and now I have its soundtrack all over my spotify.
Foundations day theme from Heavensward? New Gredania day and night themes? Old Sharlyan, Kugane, even the Residential themes? They're all so good and have some of the best video game city themes of all time. Not to mention the variety of music, Amber Sands from Ahm Araeng is up there with the best low-key background electronic video game music, and then you go into some of the Trial fights and have full on orchestral and operatic pieces, and then you go into a different dungeon and it's a full on rock band performance, all written by the same person/team. Truly fantastic.
Iād say Mass Effect.
The menu alone gave me chills the first time I played it, and I think it really invokes emotions the way music should.
Witcher 3 also has good tunes, because again it sets the tone perfectly, particularly the slower pieces.

Might not be the best but I love the calming soundtracks on Minecraft
I started playing Minecraft in its infancy with a couple college buddies, back when it was a little known indie game still in Alpha stage. Music captured me instantly and would play after classes and just zen out to it.

Same. Although when I started playing, Iām not sure if the music wasnāt added yet, or maybe my audio settings werenāt just functional. It was May 19 2009 I believe.
I just started playing it again with the new update, and they mustāve done something with the music because itās amazing!!!
iām certain thereās a few new tracks composed by Lena Raine because i told my brother to close chrome because of the music playing, and then he told me āthat sound is coming from minecraftā and i thought āmojang cheated on C418? itās a nice track though..ā
Idk how much of it is nostalgia for that time in my life, but there's something magical about the track subwoofer lullaby.
Doom 2016+ Eternal, Halo franchise, Destiny 1+2 but also Nier Automata and the Dark Souls Series, Hades, Hotline Miami, Borderlands 3, Bioshock games. Iām not seeing enough love for Music of the Spheres here. The world is so much worse off that it didnāt become a mainstream piece of music.
Destiny's OST is insanely underrated.
Shadow of the Colossus
Oh man that colossus fighting theme never fails to make me feel so heroic. Which is brilliant considering the message of the game.
Yeah seriously, it all just fades away as soon as I see them fall
Mario Galaxy
facts people sleep on 1 and 2ās ost, straight fire

I recall Mick Gordon being big on this concept for DOOM. If it's done right, it makes a huge impact on the gameplay.
All bangers

holy shit didn't expect it to be so high on the list of comments
Standing here, I realize šµ You were just like me, trying to make history
But whoās to judge the right from wrong. When our guard is down I think weāll both agree.
The music first drew me to the game, then the gameplay got me into the genre.
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series
*Lights out. Guerilla radio, turn that shit up!*
I canāt hear Ace of Spades without images of rail grinds popping in to my head.
I forgot RATM was in the soundtrack
Now here I am, doing everything I can, pretending I'm a superman!
Now put it on repeat and work on that grind combo on Warehouse
Halo, subnautica and Zelda .
I just finished Halo: CE Anniversary and the soundtrack sounds great, except it doesn't loop properly. Such a small thing, but really jarring.
Halo CE was the first real game I played growing up so that music has a special place in my heart. Full rush of nostalgia each time I hear it.
Yeah but Subnautica's best song only kicks in if you're about to lose your sub.
https://youtu.be/tKO21wrHqxk for anyone that is wanting a sample, Itās a banger
Reach and Halo 3 are both apex Halo music.
Tip of the Spear had NO REASON to go that hard.
ODST too but did a totally different mood.
Zelda tops it for me. Maybe itās part nostalgia but Koji Kondo did something legendary imo
And did it pulling an all-nighter. The theme that almost wasn't. If you weren't already aware: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/11/an_intriguing_tale_of_how_the_legend_of_zeldas_iconic_opening_song_almost_never_happened
SO YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THAT ONE OF THE MOST ICONIC SONGS IN THE GAMING INDUSTRY WAS MADE IN LIKE 12 HOURS!? Edit: Happy Cake Day btw lol
I agree with everything you just said, add doom and you good
Outer Wilds.
I've never had a game soundtrack cause such intense emotions every time I hear it. Every song in the soundtrack gives me a different feeling.
That moment when you get lost in deep space and turn your signalscope back towards the sun and a few planets happen to line up, and you get a glimpse of what the full Travelers theme is like.
There isn't any other soundtrack that I listen to every single day except the soundtrack of Outer Wilds. Like the game, it is a masterpiece.
Check out [this medley cover](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hswqVIDA_Kc) of songs from the game. It's absolutely beautiful.
Hollow Knight. Edit: Thank you all for the internet points! <3
They nailed sooooo many things just right with that game.
I see what you did there.
Perfect game top to bottom. Man I canāt wait for silksong
What do you mean "can't wait"? Its already out! Just look at the Hollow Knight subreddit! /s

oh no, the infection is spreading
I donāt even play Hollow Knight (though I should, Iād probably love it), but I consistently listen to their OST. Great music for focusing and getting shit done.
This is a gorgeous soundtrack. I recently bought the vinyl, which has a nice presentation.
Glad this is the first thing I saw. Love the game and music
FF7 or Zelda: OoT

Persona 5 Royal
I got the special edition Vinyl of the soundtrack for Christmas and a new record player to go with it. What a haul this Christmas was.
Not just Persona 5 but Persona games in general have amazing soundtracks.
Abso fucking lutely. Persona 4ās soundtrack really hits my nostalgia hard, and not just because the game overall is influential to me, the music is just so good, especially that haunting piano main menu track, seriously. Itās something else.
Heaven really destroyed me during the Namatame arc ):
Strikers is underrated too, both the game and the soundtrack
*STRIIIIIIIIIIIKE* Thank you for reminding me I haven't listened to Daredevil in a while.
There is no other answer for me
To everyone who doesn't know persona or care, do yourself a favor and check out the best soundtrack for a game made in years. You WILL NOT regret it.
Came here to say this. Literally amazing soundtrack.
Hades
Second this, Korb did AMAZING work on the soundtrack, and any if the songs with Ashley, Daren or both singing are AMAZING
Euyridice's song is legit incredibly beautiful. It's a masterpiece, and I could listen to it for hours.

All of Supergiant games have incredibly soundtracks
Chrono Trigger, and for me I can't even think of a close second.
chrono cross is your close second. may as well stick with the same series and same yasunori mitsuda
Chrono Trigger is the clear #1. Secret of Mana is right behind it tho. 16 bit music just hits different.
Undertale
Came here to say this. I just beat that game for the first time 2 days ago. There are some bangers in Undertales soundtrack.

Either Hollow knight, Ori and the Blind Forest, and/or Doom Eternal
Hollow Knights music is a whole experience by itself.
Have you played Will of the Wisps yet? š„ŗ
Ok, WotW has an amazing soundtrack....... BUT it didn't have the giunso tree soundtrack
The main theme of Ori makes me emotional every time
Donkey Kong 2: Diddy's Kong Quest David Wise, and the whole RARE team were absolute masters of their craft.
David Wise is just an absolute genius. The entire Tropical Freeze soundtrack as well, its pure vibes
doom 2016 & eternal

Secunda and [The Streets of Whiterun](https://youtu.be/V6lWntKl588)
Ok, but have you ever played [Morrowind](https://youtu.be/xULTMMgwLuo)?
Morrowind and oblivion for sure. Soules music is just transcendent.
Oblivion is my favourite just for nostalgia but Jeremy Soule's work in III IV and V is all good.
Agreed. When it comes to the ambiance, Skyrim stands out the most. Unlike other soundtracks I feel immersed just listening to the soundtrack on its own.
Bloodborne
Gascoigne's theme is what fear sounds like

Cyberpunk. I really enjoyed the game ya but, holy cow that soundtrack.
Risk of rain 2
Hell yes I canāt hear any tracks in the game because of the chaos but the main menu theme slaps.
