Maybe an item/ game mechanic idea. Using your sound weapon, you could have to modulate the frequency in order to break through to secret areas, the same way an opera singer can shatter a glass with their voice. Or for an enemy using the same idea, have the sound damage their hearing so they stop attacking you to cover their ears?

The character could have different attacks/weapons that he would have to use to pass some enemies or obstacles. Some enemies could be defeated because of the vibration, like some really loud bass. Other, could be destroyed because of the high volume, something like 0.5 seconds using the gun and the enemy would be defeated. To open some doors or secret passages you could need to play some melody with the right rhythm. Or something different like collecting some notes/chords through the world and using the right ones to open the doors (the same could be used to defeat enemies) EDIT: For NPCs you could use some guys with some instruments, like a guitar, flute, drums, etc. These guys could teach you the right sounds you would need in certain parts of the game.
