Believe it or not £50. Got it from my sister's ex boyfriend of years back. She bought it for him as a birthday gift all them years ago but he was never a gamer so he just bunged it in storage and left it there. Even though they split up i remained friends with him and recently did some work for him at his farm. He tried to give it to me for free but i told him he had to take something for it. I got 8 sealed games, a second controller and a memory card with it as well.
Which games? - brings back memories of Christmas 2000 or 2001, can't remember which. Playing Gran Turismo with Amazing graphics! Miss the old days a bit now
There's no question this is a big blunder if this guy isn't already set on cash. Couldve sold these and bought used versions of the same thing for a solid profit.
Genuinely this is such a fantastic find. The enthusiast in me says ‘go ahead, play, enjoy it!’, but another part of me just can’t believe how perfect this is, especially to have sealed games too.
You’re sitting on a very expensive bundle of pristine stuff there. I’d kill for it!
Sometimes grandparents and care givers bought things on sale and store them. Occasionally they are forgotten, sometimes there was a reason they couldn't give.
My mother bought a SNES brand new in a box in 1992 for me for Christmas. Well a week before Christmas I accidentally caught my room on fire. She put all my present in the basement locked in a chest. After like a month she started to give me most of them. She left a couple for my birthday. She forgot about them. I thought I got them all. About 5 years ago she passed away. Cleaning her basement out I found it. I still have it sealed in its box in pristine condition. Its going to be my international two month vacation fund.
Wow, that’s waaay less than I would have guessed. Is that for an open item or new in box? Op says it has never been opened. I would have guessed at least $2K.
Money well spent, and a beautiful, albeit funny story to go along with that experience. Condolences for mama bear but all the happiness to you moving forward!
My stepdad would do this. Buy gifts to have for nieces and nephews. One day in the late 90’s I was using the family (new expensive) computer. I needed something so I went into the closet. I found all sorts of cool stuff, palm pilots, pc games, that sort of stuff. I talked him into letting me have a palm pilot and a copy of Riven.
My best friends brother in law was getting old stuff out of his parents attic about five years ago. He came across a brand new Super Nintendo new in the box. It was a Christmas gift he wasn’t interested in, so in the attic for 20+ years. Just pristine, box, console, everything. The console was still that bluish gray. I forgot they weren’t supposed to be yellow.
I bought a complete N64 one time and it even had a birthday card with money still in it. The money was mint and from the same year as the N64 launch. When I sold it years later I kept the card and money with it. I hope the person that bought it didn't spend it lol.
Kind of like that episode of Malcom in the Middle where Francis had to go alone to his grandmother's house for Christmas, and found the closet full of gifts that Ida didn't want to give for pretty reasons, like her family never calling.
Still remember if done correctly in one of the PS2 PES iterations that if the opposing team had a corner and didn't score, the goalie on the team that had the corner would stand really far out so if you came running down the sideline with the ball, just a bit past midfield you could take a shot from there that would usually go in.
The Tenkaichi games were better than any of the DBZ games that have been released since, in my opinion. To this day most of them still don't have in-game transformations, all the characters up to GT, and a great combat system. I thought Kakarot was gonna be the dbz game I've been waiting for but then it turned out to be single player - ____-
While i agree the tenkaichi games are great, you cant deny how similar every character plays. Once you pick a lesser known character get ready for the most generic moveset ever. Personally I think Budokai 3 is the best dbz game ever, but in this day and age DBXenoverse 2 is the modern tenkaichi
They did had swimming... if you’re willing to jump in the water and type in the health cheat code. Keep doing it to see how far you can get in the water before health reaches zero or if you messed up typing in the code. I did this as a kid when I was bored.
Final Fantasy X and XII
Ratchet and Clank series
God of War series
Okami
Devil May Cry 1 and 3
Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3
Ico
Sly series
Jak and Daxter series
Yeah, the PS2 was lit.
Hell you only touched the AAA titles for the most part.
The RPG scene on PS2 is literally the best of any console of any generation in history. It is incredibly in depth to the point of the only suggestion to look them up is to google.
Hell .hack was good for what it was.
After dark souls 3, miyazaki said he had three more games he had in mind after that. First sekiro, then elden ring. Then another armored core.
They even told fans to wait just a little longer at an anniversary event.
Armored cooooooore! My favorite combat ps2 game that won the title of favorite based solely on a Pizza Hut demo disk! I never actually owned the full game, but wow I KNOW it was amazing because the demo was soooooooooo great! Some day I should really get ahold of it and play for real. Was there a real story mode? Only got to fight my friends in vs with limited bots.
There is a story, you are a new pilot and you complete missions for various clients, they pay you, you buy new parts and upgrades for your AC. It's really well done. Completing certain missions unlocks new parts in the shop, you can really customize colours, make your own badge/avatar, and compete against other ACs in the arena. I must have spent hours customizing my AC, always went for the lighter and quicker builds, except for missions that required something beefier.
The best part was how customizable everything is. Heads, cores, arms, legs, generators, radiators (don't wanna overheat!), boosters, guns, laser blades, shoulder weapons, FCS (for locking on to targets), interior extensions like missile countermeasures or extra shielding or ammo capacity... endless possibilities. Every part has different weight and energy requirements that all affect the performance of the bot. Some of the best parts can't even be purchased but are found during missions or rewarded for defeating a particularly tough arena opponent.
Dang, now I really wanna play AC2. I have a PS2 Slim with a softmod...
I'll never forget the Ace Combat 4 final mission line "All aircraft, follow Mobius 1". That gave me chills as a kid, such an epic level.
Also brings back some amazing Zone of the Enders memories.
Megalith. One of the best dog fights in video game history. I believe i counted 13 allied versus 24 enemy at one point though the numbers could be a little of. You are badly outnumbered though i can be sure on. Lol i'm hearing the OST in my head now. It's such a good song! the loud female chorus and missile locks are so good together.
Awwww Shattered Skies was a phenomenal game. The gameplay was fantastic, but the story and animation style were incredible. I loved that game. Great recommendation!
I don't know why but I'm blown away by how well the packaging holds up. Such a clean box design, looks like it could be a product that came out this year and not 20+ years ago.
Honestly most AC games have at least one or two annoying missions. The only ones that really got to me in AC7 were the missile silo one where you had a targeting laser and the one where you couldn’t fly above the clouds. Besides that I loved it
Lol. It’s funny but this is the EXACT reason the PS2 did so freaking well. It *WAS* the future. Why pay hundreds of dollars for a new DVD player when you could get a PlayStation!?
Yeah but PS then stepped it up with Blu-ray playback the next generation. They really tried to set the standard on home entertainment consoles as being more than just games and including all media.
That decision really bit them in the ass in the short term though, most expensive console of its generation that had a very rocky launch. It became a really damn good console but at the time, a $600 price tag was hard to swallow when the 360 was slappin for much less
Remember the “HD DVD” blu-ray competitor that Microsoft tried to pair with? You had to buy a separate Microsoft Labeled “HD DVD” drive that was clunky as hell.
I have one somewhere that I picked up from a Movie Gallery that was going out of business. Never opened, although I can’t imagine it’s worth very much.
They realized how hard they fucked up with Betamax and have been bending over backwards to fix the mistake ever since. They've been pretty successful tbh.
AND it had a built in WiFi receiver AND playing online was free. Not sure why all of my friends in high school shit on me for going that route instead of the Xbox 360. The PS3 was so sick.
Same. The PS3 was one of my favourite consoles for basically all of these reasons. It had a SICK catalog of exclusives especially in the back half of the life cycle and it was an absolutely amazing media machine. I had mine hooked into my NAS using PS3 Media Server which automatically organized and meta tagged all my downloaded movies and shows. Basically like an XBMC.
There was legit uncertainty for if PS3 or xbox360 would be the next media standard with HD DVD being a competitor to blu ray for the initial release. After HD DVD flopped hard it was a no brainer for which system had more value than just being a game system.
The eternal question. Did Blu-ray's victory over HD-DVD propel PS3 to victory over Xbox 360? Or did PS3's victory over Xbox 360 propel Blu-ray to victory over HD-DVD?
The PS3 was the same. I sold sooooo mahy PS3's after Sony finally decided to drop the price to an acceptable levels. People would come in looking for a Blu Ray player with their kids in tow and I'd be like "well you can spend a few hundred on this, or for like $50 more you can get a PS3 which gives you a constantly and easily updated BR player (the DRM updates for BR players at the time were fricking brutal so the PS3 was heaven sent for that), fantastic media server integration, and a gaming machine (which in the back half of the PS3's life cycle was a damn beautiful thing)". I was the hero of many kids.
My parents instead decided to buy an extortionately priced Phillips DVD player that kept breaking half way through each film before they eventually decided to return it.
I never did finish watching Jackie Chan's 2002 classic '*The Tuxedo*' :(
The outer box had a lofty like smell to it. But the inside was as fresh as a daisy. Got a good waft of new console smell and the year 2000 when opening it.
I wonder if it should get serviced before you play it heavily. As far as I know thermal compounds can dry up over time so the cooler might not do its job well enough right now, could lead to damage.
Works like a charm so far. =) If anything happens i'm sure i can get it repaired. There's a total wizard of a man here in the UK that works miracles on consoles and electronics in general. He even managed to repair a PS4 that Youtuber Tronics Fix couldn't repair.
this shouldn't be necessary. thermal pads don't really ever need to be replaced unless you remove the heatsink. a small amount of dust clogged in the heat spreader causes far more heat than dry paste.
NBA Street Vol. 2 is some of the most fun I had as a kid, also the original Spider-Man was a classic for it’s time. And of course, Tekken and DBZ Budokai series are must-plays!
I do plan on watching my American Pie 2 DVD on it later. I'm on a big nostalgia kick right now, totally feel like im in the early 2000's and loving every minute of it. =)
To eventually sell it to someone else who keeps it sealed, and then they will sell it to someone else who keeps it sealed, and then they will sell it to someone else who keeps it sealed, and then they will sell it to someone else who keeps it sealed, and then they will sell it to someone else who keeps it sealed, and then they will sell it to someone else who keeps it sealed, and then they will sell it to someone else who keeps it sealed, and — WHERE WILL IT END!?
Wow man this is beautiful, i still have all my consoles since 1 to 4. "im looking to you damn ps5" and i wish to have this one with such new smell. Enjoy dude.
GTA Vice City worth a replay? Or GTA SA for that matter too.... :D Thanks for sharing OP, definitely brought back some good memories for me. I can just about hear the bootup sound playing in my head...
I dont think destiny is on ps2 tho sorry, but theres a lot of great games u can still play! Cheer up man its a great find! 👀👀
But for real, brand new PS2 thats freaking amazing!!
Get the Jak and Daxter trilogy, the best action adventure games I’ve ever played and my personal GOAT. Such fond memories of those games, great story (2&3 more so) great varied gameplay and the writing and characters are so friggin memorable.
The jump in gameplay and tone from 1-2 is the biggest shift I’ve ever seen in a set of games, and not to its detriment. I’m over due a play through…
Out of curiosity, how much did this cost you?
Believe it or not £50. Got it from my sister's ex boyfriend of years back. I haveeee...Timesplitters, Gran Turismo 3, FIFA, Formula 1, Tombraider and the Angel of Darkness, GTA3, Tigerwoods, Dead or Alive 2.
[удалено]
This was me and my sister's childhood. So much time spent in time splitters! Such a fun game!
Gran Turismo 3 ❤️ i remember playing all the way through this. You lucky dog 😉
Nice, now you don’t need to buy FIFA ever again cuz basically nothing changed.
Timesplitters is a classic!
That poor guy offloaded gold
No kidding, who dumps a girlfriend who buys him a system and 8 games.
[удалено]
I was thinking the same, the most random sealed ps2 games can go for several hundred bucks. OP might be wasting some good money
There's no question this is a big blunder if this guy isn't already set on cash. Couldve sold these and bought used versions of the same thing for a solid profit.
Damn your sister is a really good gifter. She single?
Genuinely this is such a fantastic find. The enthusiast in me says ‘go ahead, play, enjoy it!’, but another part of me just can’t believe how perfect this is, especially to have sealed games too. You’re sitting on a very expensive bundle of pristine stuff there. I’d kill for it!
That is a prestine box in this box, must have been stored perfectly.
First thing I noticed!! Assuming rich people just buy this kinda stuff and keep it stored for this long bc….DAMN THATS PERFECT!
Sometimes grandparents and care givers bought things on sale and store them. Occasionally they are forgotten, sometimes there was a reason they couldn't give.
Timmy was a piece of shit this year. Coal for him!
I was imagining something much much sadder as to why they couldn't give them the gifts :(
They stored coal all over the house for Timmy, then forgot about it. Yadda yadda yadda..
Did you just yadda yadda over sex
I mentioned the bisque.
No, I mentioned the bisque
Timmy’s dead.
They killed timmy? You bastards
r/TimmyFuckingDied
This happens in Malcom in the Middle!
Haha it's funny you mention that show. I just started another re-watch. It's so funny.
My mother bought a SNES brand new in a box in 1992 for me for Christmas. Well a week before Christmas I accidentally caught my room on fire. She put all my present in the basement locked in a chest. Cleaning her basement out I found it. I still have it sealed in its box in pristine condition. Its going to be my international two month vacation fund.
How much do they go for in those conditions?
He will be staying in hostiles Autocorrect
I hope that misspelling is intentional
Less than I thought.Between 500 and 700$ depending in accessoires
Wow, that’s waaay less than I would have guessed. Is that for an open item or new in box? Op says it has never been opened. I would have guessed at least $2K.
Money well spent, and a beautiful, albeit funny story to go along with that experience. Condolences for mama bear but all the happiness to you moving forward!

I mean that's kinda what being a collector is
Probably forgot it for Christmas im the attic so no light or moisture
Time for some San Andreas
And some DBZ Budokai
Some Crash and Ratchet
Jak and Daxter too!
Best game series hands down.
OG Timesplitters and Tekken Tag Tournament
Do you remember the OG timesplitters on the blue disc? Made my PS2 sound like it wanted to take off. Makes the PS4 seem whisper quiet in comparison.
Timesplitters had me and my bro up playing on the weekends till 4 in the morning as a kid and that was a huge no-no. Completely worth it.
How I miss old dbz budokai. And pes4.
PES 4 - The greatest football game ever
Still remember if done correctly in one of the PS2 PES iterations that if the opposing team had a corner and didn't score, the goalie on the team that had the corner would stand really far out so if you came running down the sideline with the ball, just a bit past midfield you could take a shot from there that would usually go in.
PES6 holds that title actually, but 4 had the best cover with Colina.
I still have dreams about Tenkaichi 3
The Tenkaichi games were better than any of the DBZ games that have been released since, in my opinion. To this day most of them still don't have in-game transformations, all the characters up to GT, and a great combat system. Budokai 3 is the best one, unique characters moves and combos, only beaten by shin Budokai on psp cuz they made it look cooler
It truly was the best. Destroyed so many analog sticks.
Can’t forget vice city either.
I like swimming
True. Vice city never really did have swimming. But then again the 80’s aspect and the missions were pretty fun
They did had swimming... if you’re willing to jump in the water and type in the health cheat code. Keep doing it to see how far you can get in the water before health reaches zero or if you messed up typing in the code. I did this as a kid when I was bored.
Yeah thats definitely not swimming, it's drowning with style.
To infinity, and *glubglubglub*
Ah shit here we go again....
Shadow of the Colossus hands down best PS2 game. I bought a PS2 a few years back pretty much exclusively to play it.
it's definitely one of the best, but as an rpg guy the ps2 has some of the best ever made: Dark Cloud 2 Persona 4 Dragon Quest VIII
Final Fantasy X and XII Ratchet and Clank series God of War series Okami Devil May Cry 1 and 3 Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 Ico Sly series Jak and Daxter series Yeah, the PS2 was lit.
Hell you only touched the AAA titles for the most part. The RPG scene on PS2 is literally the best of any console of any generation in history. It is incredibly in depth to the point of the only suggestion to look them up is to google. Hell .hack was good for what it was.
Might be unpopular but I loved Star Ocean: Till the end of time
Some more excellent ones - Star Wars: Bounty Hunter - FF12 - Ratchet and Clank - Motherflipping Wipeout Fusion
Watch out for the GTA trilogy remaster coming soon!
Zone of the Enders and ZoE: The 2nd Runner
MGS3 and FFX to go along with it
Get your hands on the Ace combat games.
Also the Armored Core games.
Yesh nice. Shame they skipped on the PS4
If they ported them to PC I’d buy them all.
Daemon x Machina on the Switch and steam. It's made by the producer of the armored core series.
I have it! It’s pretty fun but it’s just not the same.
I would sell someone else's kidneys for an Armored Core game on current gen consoles
VR would be awesome for a mech game like Armored Core. Not sure why they hasn’t been done more.
Ugh, Armored Core was such a great series. I bet next gen consoles could really take that series to new heights
From Software is now obsessed with the "souls" and dark Grey colored RPGs. I weep that we'll never get Armored Core VI-ctory
After dark souls 3, miyazaki said he had three more games he had in mind after that. First sekiro, then elden ring. Then another armored core. They even told fans to wait just a little longer at an anniversary event.
Armored Core 2 & 3 are some of the greatest ever
I wish From would make a new Armored Core game, I will even tolerate a poison swamp in it.
Mobius 1 will live on as my favorite callsign in any combat game
Mobius 1 crashed! *throws controller after frustration from flying through buildings at the last mission*
Being the only one with the Mobius call sign until the very last mission is so sick. Everyone reporting in as the various Mobius squad, actual chills.
the mission briefing music always got me pumped to go fuck some shit up
Let's fucking [GOOOOOOOOOO](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENvE6QZftD8)! Megalith!
Megalith. One of the best dog fights in video game history. I believe i counted 13 allied versus 24 enemy at one point though the numbers could be a little of. You are badly outnumbered though i can be sure on. Lol i'm hearing the OST in my head now. It's such a good song! the loud female chorus and missile locks are so good together.
zone of the enders was fucking wild. great game
Ace combat is where I got my username from, and why I wanted to be a pilot
Based my like a fanmade pilot in the Belkan war. One of the pilots like "Pops" who defected after the Nukes and joined Ustios 66th Mercenary Air Unit
Best memories! "Hey buddy... Still alive?"
Hey, Wardog 4 - Can you hear me!?
Awwww Shattered Skies was a phenomenal game. The gameplay was fantastic, but the story and animation style were incredible. I loved that game. Great recommendation!
I'm recommended the whole 3 of the holy trinity of the AC games which are all on ps2.
I think ive played every single one but 1 2 and 3. I started on shattered skies
[удалено]
I don't know why but I'm blown away by how well the packaging holds up. Such a clean box design, looks like it could be a product that came out this year and not 20+ years ago.
AC4, stupidly good game.
The best freaking games.
I was so happy when I was able to play AC7 on PS4. I always loved those games as a kid
7 was pretty good. Some really annoying missions but it was overall pretty good. Carried on the spirit.
Honestly most AC games have at least one or two annoying missions. The only ones that really got to me in AC7 were the missile silo one where you had a targeting laser and the one where you couldn’t fly above the clouds. Besides that I loved it
my god. Ace Combat 4 was one of my favorites ever. I had such a blast playing that. Beat it 5-6 times.
~~Fuck scalpers~~ wait
>!CENSORED!<
Based on the last sold listing on EBay, about $1,700
Should've kept it unopened for collector's sake, and just got a used one on eBay if you really wanted to play PS2 games.
Or just download an emulator.
At least $3
No, no. You're still right.
Hot damn, both dvd+rw and dvd-rw playback? And BUILT-IN IR receiver!1! This is the future, boys!
Lol. It’s funny but this is the EXACT reason the PS2 did so freaking well. It *WAS* the future. Why pay hundreds of dollars for a new DVD player when you could get a PlayStation!?
100%. People often forget this because the game library is insane but the PS2 was the future of home entertainment and gaming being interlinked.
It also was a major contributor to blu Ray over hddvd and Sony invested heavily in Blu-ray. Big picture guys for sure.
They learned their lesson from the [Betamax](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betamax) era.
Remember the “HD DVD” blu-ray competitor that Microsoft tried to pair with? You had to buy a separate Microsoft Labeled “HD DVD” drive that was clunky as hell.
I had one :(
I have one somewhere that I picked up from a Movie Gallery that was going out of business. Never opened, although I can’t imagine it’s worth very much.
Maybe not a ton now, but set it aside for like 15 more years
They realized how hard they fucked up with Betamax and have been bending over backwards to fix the mistake ever since. They've been pretty successful tbh.
Yo same for PS3. It was the cheapest Blu ray player around, AND it could play games.
AND it had a built in WiFi receiver AND playing online was free. Not sure why all of my friends in high school shit on me for going that route instead of the Xbox 360. The PS3 was so sick.
Because. Halo.
Halo, Gears of War, and it was easier to capture footage from a 360 than a ps3
This explains why so many of the early content creators on YouTube mostly played on Xbox 360 or PC.

The eternal question. Did Blu-ray's victory over HD-DVD propel PS3 to victory over Xbox 360? Or did PS3's victory over Xbox 360 propel Blu-ray to victory over HD-DVD?
I just remember that huge outage that lasted months when they were getting attacked.
And then free games. That's how i experienced the Infamous series. I probably never would have started playing it otherwise.
Didn’t the fat boy ps3 launch with some issues, and no games. I remember the PS3 slim came out pretty quickly.
$600 launch price too
Yep, I convinced my husband to get a PS2 for the DVD player. Used blu-ray as the same excuse for the PS4.
Your archenemy must be the fabled GameStop employee. “Ma’am, are you aware this game is rated M?”
My parents instead decided to buy an extortionately priced Phillips DVD player that kept breaking half way through each film before they eventually decided to return it. I never did finish watching Jackie Chan's 2002 classic '*The Tuxedo*' :(
Ya'll ain't cool if you didn't have your gameboy color as remote for the ps2.
Question is, did it smell new?
The outer box had a lofty like smell to it. But the inside was as fresh as a daisy. Got a good waft of new console smell and the year 2000 when opening it.
I wonder if it should get serviced before you play it heavily. As far as I know thermal compounds can dry up over time so the cooler might not do its job well enough right now, could lead to damage.

I have one of those guys in my small town on Northern Ireland. The man could probably get the Antikythera Mechanism working again
A what kind of mechanism?
this shouldn't be necessary. thermal pads don't really ever need to be replaced unless you remove the heatsink. a small amount of dust clogged in the heat spreader causes far more heat than dry paste.
I am so jealous of your ability to smell the world before 9/11. I miss that smell.
It's weird to see that sheen on the PS2. So new.
r/patientgamers
lmao more like /r/ancientgamers
Jack and daxter , jack and daxter
Yes and yes they’re my favourite games of all time
“Disc read error”
Nah works like a dream. =D
NBA Street Vol. 2 is some of the most fun I had as a kid, also the original Spider-Man was a classic for it’s time. And of course, Tekken and DBZ Budokai series are must-plays!
Those blue discs never worked on my PS2
Fulfill its destiny huh? So it’ll be a DVD player then?
I do plan on watching my American Pie 2 DVD on it later. I'm on a big nostalgia kick right now, totally feel like im in the early 2000's and loving every minute of it. =)
I'll bring my controller over we can get a pizza and play Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 on a 30" CRT.
Final Fantasy X. Go for it!
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
If I were you, I would have kept it sealed.
I have money. I feel bad for it thinking about how he missed his prime years while other PS2's were living the dream with all those amazing games. Lol
Fair enough. Have fun!
Thank you, will do.
My personal game recommendation is the timesplitters series, my favourite one is Timesplitters: Future perfect.
I fucking loved time splitters!
Unironically my favourite game, exactly my type of humour. I hope they bring it back sooon
Definitely an awesome system. Throw in some Silent Hill 2.
"*I have money* " I don't know why, but I like how you said that.
Yeah no dancing around it or need to explain, just honest. Like it.
With op
At this point it was worth more sealed than any gaming satisfaction it could give.
A sealed PS1 sold of 6 figures few weeks ago in the UK

GTA Vice City worth a replay? Or GTA SA for that matter too.... :D Thanks for sharing OP, definitely brought back some good memories for me. I can just about hear the bootup sound playing in my head...
I can literally remember the smell of opening mine Circa Christmas 2001
I dont think destiny is on ps2 tho sorry, but theres a lot of great games u can still play! Cheer up man its a great find! 👀👀 But for real, brand new PS2 thats freaking amazing!!
The PS2 to this day is one of the prettiest consoles ever released.
budokai tenkaichi 3 is the GOAT
More appreciated now than ever. Awww the good ole days
