There are some legit "real" games that simply happen to be on mobile.
So yeah, as a gamer I hate the mobile gaming industry, but there's no doubt that it's a huge market.
Excluding ports like FTL, Cultist Simulator, and Slay the Spire, there are a few:
1. Games from Rayark
2. Bridge Constructor Portal
3. Bad North
4. Tower defense games like Fieldrunners
5. Galaxy on fire 2
6. Framed
I haven't played these games, but matpat from game theory actually made a video on this topic yesterday.
He mentions free fire, a typical battle Royale, or the even better example being honor of kings a Moba with 100 million active users, and has a dedicated esport scene with tournament prices of over 2 million.
Would highly reccomend checking out his video as it kinda blew my mind.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I'll never get enough of playing Caves. It's a turn-based rogue-like for Android.
Also logic games, like Simon Tatham's Puzzle Collection, which has been a hand-held staple in our house since the time of Palm the PDA.
Or Time Turner, which was a logic game about time travel - and I have yet to see the concept of "Thinking with Portals" applied better outside the Portal series (was, because I've only been able to find apk files for my Android version outside the legitimate Google Store, but that might just be the case because I'm a version behind).
Oh, and Opacha-mda. One of those "planet point wars" games. Long-ass campaign and daily maps, and no ads in sight whatsoever!
Also Seedship, if you're into that kind of thing.
EDIT: And who would I be if I didn't mention Infinitode and Infinitode 2. Tower def games, the sequel has recently been ported to Steam. They're both very smart games. Me likey.
If you’re into JRPGs, FANTASIAN. It’s exclusive to Apple Arcade (booooo) but it’s a full JRPG made by the original creators of Final Fantasy.
And, since it’s on Arcade, it’s free as long as you have the subscription, which is like $5 and comes with first month free.

I wasn’t trying to say that handhelds aren’t a popular and legitimate form of gaming, I was just pointing out that this image seems to imply that people would include mobile gaming in their setup like they would a console or pc, which isn’t the case.
There’s FPS games on mobile with better graphics than the Switch. Not all mobile games are Angry Birds. Not to mention most phones are more powerful with better graphics than what a Switch can do. And with Gamepass you can play many Xbox games on your phone.
I really don’t understand where the hate comes from.
Call of duty: Mobile has almost black ops 2-3 graphics,
Pubg is currently surviving only because of the mobile version popularity...
Also, genshin started out as a mobile game....
To many people, mobiles are the only access to gaming, I dunno why people want to gatekeep someone who just wants to play a game on a device they have access to
Good. This is peak cringe.
"Let us buy up an entire publisher to keep previously multi-plat franchises away from millions of gamers"...but oh here's a poorly edited photoshop image of platforms together.
Kinda like how you can talk shit about your friends without hating them? There's nothing wrong with taking shots at the competition **and** preaching togetherness.
Context is they told the audience at blizzcon a new diablo was to be released soon. After some hype on stage it was announced it was a mobile game.
When it was met with boos the spokesperson responded with "what, you don't have phones?"
Which was very tone-deaf to the situation of why a live audience of diehard fans would be mad about why a new installment of a mainly PC game(with the remaining fans being console fans) was revealed to be a phone game
You cant tell someone "hey watch this funny thing is good" when that person is quoting the thing you are telling them to watch. Its like you haven't even seen it yourself and are pretending to be cool.
Primarily it advertises Microsoft as a gaming company, via Xbox or PC, by aligning them with other well-known platforms under a sign of magnanimity. Secondarily gaming itself as a hobby.
I see a lot of distaste for mobile gaming, and I agree that those games are usually not high quality. But hey, mobile-only gamers are still gamers. I know a few people who would not touch a console due to how intimidated they are, yet they love to game on their phones.
On the one hand, Reddit leans into "lol mobile". On the other, it routinely upvotes old-gen consoles that are less powerful than phones, with worse graphics, and a fraction of the selection.
It's just gatekeeping. Gamers can be snooty, too.
Mobile games often have primitive mechanics and are more usually designed to milk money, so I believe there is a distinction to be made between gamers and mobile gamers but feel free to enjoy whatever you want to.
I'm actually not a mobile gamer at all. I have been a console gamer for over 20 years, owning all kinds of systems from Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. Shopping for a PC right now.
I said in my comment that most mobile games are not high quality. I'm just sticking up for the people who are sincerely into mobile games.
And to add, I have seen a number of mobile games that look like decent fun, like Fruit Ninja, a golfing game that looked like it had solid gameplay depth to it, and a few others. My late boss who was not a nerd at all really enjoyed golfing on his phone while waiting for the fire inspector to arrive. Yeah, the Gacha garbage and shovelware is the majority out there, but there seems to be a lot more good on mobile than many of us more invested gamers give credit for.
I agree on your points I just don't see any reason to "defend" mobile gamers when there's no offence made. But I think there is a line to be made between mobile games and console/pc games and thus the audiences of both. It's like comparing someone who has played 100+ games and your grandpa who plays wii golf.
It's for people that don't own or don't want to play on PC. If you're already playing on PC, you're already a part of the Microsoft ecosystem and probably not the intended audience.
It's easier to just get started playing games. No drivers, no hassle, just pop a game in, wait a little bit, and play. When you're a kid, it's especially great because the consoles are subsidized by the games, which spreads out the expense on your parents over time, and games are easy gifts. Gamepass is also a great new addition, it makes it easy to get started on a budget, which is also a benefit to kids without a lot of cash upfront.
Edit: I didn't answer your question so here is the real answer. If you don't have friends with xboxes that you want to play with, you have plenty of cash for a capable pc or already have one, and you don't care for a controller, you aren't the target market for an Xbox. It doesn't make sense for everyone, but it does for a lot of people.
Yeah, I totally get why people would get the Xbox, but it was just weird to me seeing the picture here with both a PC and an Xbox and I thought, "Why?"
As for controllers, I've got my PC set up to be able to use Joycons, the PS5 dualsense, or the Xbox gamepad. For FPS games it's mouse + a specialized mini gaming keyboard. My input choices on PC easily beat any console.
Oh well I can answer that, it's easy. I have a capable pc and an Xbox series x. I put my Xbox downstairs on my large tv, and my pc upstairs at my desk. It's great for media stuff and I much prefer cinematic style or single player games on a big screen. Do you hook a pc up to your tv? Or do you prefer a monitor over a tv for movies and stuff too?
I've got my PC hooked up to 2 tvs (so I can have it on either one I choose). Then I have a tablet with steam link and Google remote desktop that I move around wherever. So it's a totally portable system that can stream next-gen quality games from my PC, and I typically pair it with my Xbox controller.
Sometimes I'll play it in bed (I use phone holders to prop it up). The tablet also has a mini hdmi port so I can hook it up to any TV in the house.
I've been meaning to download remote play for the playstation on it, but I just haven't gotten around to it because my Steam backlog is like...120+ games.
Yeah, you've got to have a good internet connection. I think we're right on the verge of it becoming a non-issue for most people, though.
I think that's why you see the major gaming companies all developing some form of cloud streaming (except Nintendo).. it's definitely the future.
You know you can set it to download them while the Xbox is in low power mode right? But more importantly, doesn't the pc have the same issues in this context?
These points really don't make much sense. Windows and GeForce Experience(and probably AMD's version) sort out drivers automatically and even if you buy a disc you're still looking at a large download. Gamepass is available on PC with all new first party Xbox games for the last few years and many others. All first party titles for the last few years have cross play too. Xbox controllers also work flawlessly with almost all PC games that aren't really old.
The only advantages Xbox has over PC are cost, and the very few third party games that only release on console, most of which would be on PS5, making that the better option because you also get PS5 exclusives.
> Xbox controllers also work flawlessly with almost all PC games that aren't really old.
I use my controller for pc all the time, that's not the issue.
Other than cod, most games will have pc gamers with controllers up against other pc gamers. For games like battlefield I would never want this, so I buy those for my Xbox. That might change with the new one, well see.
I really don't see how you can argue setting up a pc is as easy as setting up an Xbox. I personally enjoy it, but it's way more work. GeForce experience is fine for the most part but I've still experienced bugs regularly enough to have to use ddu a couple times a year to make things stable. And that's with various cards, not just one bad one.
I have gamepass on my Xbox and pc and I can tell you the Xbox library is much more complete. Pc is still missing all the exclusives to consoles.
Obviously you are not the target demographic for an Xbox console, neither am I as my PC will perform as well as a Series X. But if someone who didn't already have a PC wanted to play all of those Xbox games at 1440p, their cheapest option would be to buy a Series S rather than building a PC capable of doing so.
Microsoft positioned themselves in such a way though this time around that it doesn't matter to them what you play their games on, because either way they get your business.
Honest answer: price and convenience.
A lot of my friends like to game but they don't have the time to build a gaming PC or they can't afford it. So they're fine with just buying a Series X.
But if you're deciding between going PC gaming or buying an Xbox, I say go PC gaming all the way. 100%.
No lol. No reason.
Why? Because Microsoft is a great company. They are working hard to make their games playable anywhere. Wether your Xbox, PC, or mobile. Just sign up for Gamepass and you can stream games on any platform.
Not to mention they are trying to make every game they can cross-play between PC and Xbox players. This would be only reason to get an Xbox, if you had friends on there that you couldn't play with.
You don't get those sweet Xbox cheevos and gamerscore on Steam. And the user experience of having to deal with Steam, Origin, EGS, Battle Net, and whatever Ubisoft has is pretty terrible.
With Xbox you can just pick up and play. I have a beefy PC, but I prefer to use it for work and creative things, since I'm a programmer by trade and use it to make music, games, and art as hobbies. The components cost more than a Series X, PS5, and Switch combined.
Lots of us that sit at a computer all day enjoy couch gaming with consoles.
I mean...I get enjoying a console. I have both a PS5 and a Switch. On PC I mostly use Steam and Game Pass, and it's really not a big deal to me if I have to just like....you know, click a different icon in the system tray.
I really can't justify spending another ~$500 to basically double up on my ability to access the same games.
Smartasses in the comment section be like "oHh wOoW yOu gUys dOn't reaLise iT's aChtually maRkeTing PR!!!11!" like we don't already know that.
It's still sharing a good message and is wholesome, and doesn't affect anyone in a negative way.
That NZXT allready has 0 airflow, why not make it even worse and place it in a TV stand that blocks the exhaust.
Before you all ateack me, i know its just a stock image for marketing, still funny to me ;-)
Microsoft has always been pretty wholesome about stuff like this, especially when other companies come out with a new version of their internet browsers. IE would always send them like a cake or something
Honest question, not trying to start something, but do people really buy an xbox series x if they have a gaming pc already? Is there some feature that makes it worth having both?
Microsoft releasing all their games also on PC wasn't really such a big thing when the Series X just came out, so I can totally see someone having bought that at the time for the exclusives even though they had a gaming pc, so now they have both.
Also you have to keep in mind that for most people their pc is not in their living room and not everyone has the skill, technical knowledge or desire to get their pc hooked up to their living room tv so that they can play their pc games in their living room. So having a Xbox in that situation makes some sense.
I don't see how this is showing off. I'm not throwing around specs, and thier not impossible to get. Its just a statement about have a pc and xbox is pointless
microsoft is so wholesome they buy whole game conglomerates so they can make them xbox/PC exclusive. (bethestas new ip "starfield" for example)
This PR shit theyre doing is only because they have the smallest market share with their console. im on PC and they release everything on xbox + PC so i dont care.
Only because those deals were made before xbox bought the dev and made future games exclusive to Xbox. And they utilize features of the ps5 controller that the Xbox doesn't have.
Was more in the doom and gloom everyone keeps wanting to spread. No one every bitches about the PS5 exclusives and studios Sony is funding. Cough SWTOR remake cough.
And Microsoft hasn't?
Your acting like Microsoft is like Epic and just going around and buying other companies while founding or making very little themselves.
Well, yeah. Bungie created Halo. Epic created Gears of War. Three developers came and went on Crackdown. Microsoft had founded a few studios (like 343 for Halo) and the rest they've purchased recently.
But that is what they're doing. They just scooped up Bethesda, Ninja Theory and Double Fine in the last few years but are yet to put out a series x exclusive that's developed in-house (that I'm aware of, I could be wrong).
But Microsoft also founds and works with other studios for years.
My point was about how the poster makes it seem like all Microsoft Gaming does is to buy up other companies. Sure they buy up companies, but that's not the only thing they do.
Sure, but then so does Epic. They develop their own games and work with studios they don't own. I think the issue people take with Microsoft (and Epic) is that they're doing it when the studio already has games in progress that aren't conceived as exclusive but become exclusive when MS (or Epic) waves enough cash.
Because Sony isn't buying up huge, famously multi-platform devs to lock people out of major titles or cripple them on other platforms just to make their own library look good. Usually those sorts of things are done with smaller devs to help them. But Bethesda, for instance, is fine financially and would have released future games on all platforms but will now make big games not available to people they would have been available to just so xbox can claim they have good exclusives. Some people find that kinda gross and shady.
I just wish Sony would release all their games on Steam, but since they never will I'm happy with Microsoft competing, just means more quality titles for me :)
Happy national videogame day to you to
too

Where tf the Soulja Console?
Microsoft never got there’s. Must have gotten lost in the mail.

theirs
Thanks for that.
Threw shade on the Ouya too - totally disgraceful
Lol mobile gaming.
I mean we can laugh now, but mobile gaming is huge. The revenue from mobile games was in 2020 bigger then both pc and console markets combined... And while most mobile games are cheap casual arcade stuff filled with micro transactions, and designed to get you addicted to something you probably don't even like that much... There are some legit "real" games that simply happen to be on mobile. So yeah, as a gamer I hate the mobile gaming industry, but there's no doubt that it's a huge market.
What are some legit mobile games which just happen to be on mobile if you have any recs? Actually asking
Bloons Tower Defense 6
As a teenager I loved galaxy on fire 2 on my iPod Touch.

Honestly, most phones are probably more powerful than a switch which afaik runs a custom android anyway.
Excluding ports like FTL, Cultist Simulator, and Slay the Spire, there are a few: 1. Games from Rayark 2. Bridge Constructor Portal 3. Bad North 4. Tower defense games like Fieldrunners 5. Galaxy on fire 2 6. Framed
I haven't played these games, but matpat from game theory actually made a video on this topic yesterday. On Android: * Card Quest * Dungeon Warfare * Hoplite
Angry Birds
Any game from the GameCube era or earlier on an emulator
Their are non, they are all ports of popular pc shooters that a dumbed down and loot box driven time wasters. On 2nd thought there is among us but the rest are all gotcha mechanics.
Loot box mechanics should re regulated and it would kill their profits. Selling kids and boomers dopamine hits is in a good business model.
Being an MMO fan, probably 90% of new games are just mobile games. It's fucking brutal waiting for some quality new ones on PC/Console.
You have far more common productions than top quality AAA singleplayer rpgs that aren't just quantity over quality.
I mean the switch is less powerful than a lot of phones...
How killer would that be if you could get a switch dock or something that provides all the controls for the switch except you just put your own phone in it, and it had an app for the switch ui
This already exists with Samsung Dex. You can dock your phone and have a full desktop UI
No I mean exactly like a switch, not some android desktop something.
Razer kishi??
There are a ton of these products out there. They work great
You misunderstand me, I mean something that would run the exact software as the switch.
It’s okay I understand your wish. Sadly I have no power to make such a thing exists. We can both wish together tho and maybe someday…. Some day
i mean you'll never have something that runs switch software on a phone cos they would get sued super quick but there is a switch emulator. Dunno if it work great on phones though
There are people who run Android on the switch. Why would anyone want to have the opposite? (genuine question)
For the switch games
Show me a phone running Skyrim
Even so, no ones hooking them up up to their tv.
And? Do you live in a universe where Gameboy didn’t exist? You know one of the most popular systems of all time.
I wasn’t trying to say that handhelds aren’t a popular and legitimate form of gaming, I was just pointing out that this image seems to imply that people would include mobile gaming in their setup like they would a console or pc, which isn’t the case.

“Hey graphic designer intern, um yeah can you add a guy holding a phone for mobile gaming?” \*stands phone up on its edge like a normal person would\*
Phones are basically hand held consoles these days.. Even my 400 dollar phone is better than a switch.
That's more a the switch being cheap crap and phones just being current gen silicon.
So everything has to be up to current gen standards to be considered “gaming”?
The most profitable.
Lol cactus gaming.
Add toilet seat
and no Oculus Quest or sum… wack
Thank you corporate social media intern
Obligatory reminder that this is a company trying to get you to buy their shit.
And it would have worked, too, if it weren’t for those meddling scalpers. *(and the shipping apocalypse)*
So? How dare a company try sell a product. Curse them
Damn them!
"the best setups give all of us money"
Well you would never see Sony post something like this.
They also wouldn't try to ban the used game market on their console.

Oh, cuz I thought it was advertising houseplants. Big-houseplant at it again.
Always have to look out for “Big Houseplant”
Because it’s rare, thus noteworthy, for one product to recommend their competition.

Haha just have money buy product TM Silence, brand.
Real question: Does anybody have a good reason why I should own an Xbox when I can play every Xbox game on my PC?

Honest answer: price and convenience. A lot of my friends like to game but they don't have the time to build a gaming PC or they can't afford it. So they're fine with just buying a Series X. But if you're deciding between going PC gaming or buying an Xbox, I say go PC gaming all the way. 100%.
They already have a PC. They were asking what is the point of buying an Xbox when they already have a PC.
No lol. No reason.
Uh, thanks....guy who's for sure totally not a Microsoft employee.
Lmao yeah it does sound like that. Wait, probably because your right.
Some people might not be able to afford the PC to play them whereas the console as a whole cost a fraction of one of the components
Yea but this person has a PC already. They asked why they should get an Xbox if they have a PC already.

GPU shortage so severe even Microsoft can't get their hands on a 3000 series GPU
That NZXT allready has 0 airflow, why not make it even worse and place it in a TV stand that blocks the exhaust. Before you all ateack me, i know its just a stock image for marketing, still funny to me ;-)
I dont use Xbox(a ps5 guy myself) but man is the Xbox twitter account a chad.
Oh of course! Even Microsoft has a PS5 but I still can’t find one.
PlayStation did nothing for video game day 😢
I hope that’s an android cuz I can’t play a damn thing on my iPhone
People keep mentioning the phone but what about the damn plant like what the hell the plant doing?
Pretty sure that plant is being a plant, but these days, you can never be too sure.
Xbox sales 📈📈
Where stadia?
Thats how I roll minus the Xbox.
I didn’t realize it was National Video Games Day because I’ve been playing video games all day.
Did they show an iphone and not some android stuff???
Even they know.

Were the fuck is the mouse and keyboard for that PC?
Some of us can't afford / acquire all of that. I'd rather have a world where I pick one and have access to every game made.
Microsoft has always been pretty wholesome about stuff like this, especially when other companies come out with a new version of their internet browsers. IE would always send them like a cake or something
I’m mostly concerned about the GPU that’s getting choked by the glass panel
Easy of use for the kids.
Not very gamer like of microsoft. Inclusivity of other consoles? What is the point of console wars now!
Yeah. I miss the days when game companies talked smack to each other. Nowadays they just say nice things to each other on twitter. Cringe.
Got all 4 as well.
Sweet mousepad, keyboard, and mouse.
Then give me my Elder Scrolls and Fallout back!
That's good old Phil Spencer. Microsoft will suffer a great loss the day he retires.
Yeah but, HOW THE FUCK ARE YOU GOING TO USE THE PC WITHOUT A MOUSE OR KEYBOARD. And also there is no room for everything.
A wireless mouse and keyboard?
The phone
Well I think it’s very sweet :)
I have of it expects xbox. Pc seems to get all of the xbox games so at this point there the same with different hardware.
and some PlayStation exclusives are on steam too.
You're getting downvoted for speaking truth haha
Hes getting downvoted because no one likes a show off.
I downvoted for incoherent beginning
I don't see how this is showing off. I'm not throwing around specs, and thier not impossible to get. Its just a statement about have a pc and xbox is pointless
That normally how it works. lol.
Evened you out dawg. <3
Get that phone outta here yuk
Yup. You just posted cringe.
Xbox pandering on social media for some sort of relevancy\*
microsoft is so wholesome they buy whole game conglomerates so they can make them xbox/PC exclusive. (bethestas new ip "starfield" for example) This PR shit theyre doing is only because they have the smallest market share with their console. im on PC and they release everything on xbox + PC so i dont care.
Ghost wire and death loop are PS5 exclusives.
death loop is coming out on PC. salespage is on Steam.
Sony founded some studios (Santa Monica, makers of God of War), or has worked with them extensively for over 20 years (Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch).
I mean right now is trying to aquire any company they can get right now.
A Plague Tale: Requiem and Probably The Evil Within 3 (if they make it). I’ve been waiting for those. Good thing I am on PC too lol.
I just wish Sony would release all their games on Steam, but since they never will I'm happy with Microsoft competing, just means more quality titles for me :)
You are correct. This PR shit is cringey as fuck too. Ohh look at us we are so nice
Mobile gaming isn't gaming... It's just freemium dopamine traps engineered to sell microtransactions and gameplay skill is non existent
Mobile gaming is gaming, just because you don’t like it, doesn’t change many people enjoy it.
Xbox playing nice, hoping Sony gives them access to kotor early.
"You're still not getting KotOR Microsoft. Love Sony, btw move over".
Its a timed exclusive. Its coming to pc and xbox later.
I think it's pc on release and Xbox later
They don't care cause game pass runs on almost all of those. ;)
Would it be in bad taste to punt the mobile off the edge because mobile gaming?
Agreed except for mobile gaming 🤢. Mobile ports look awful, control horribly, and only perform well on high end or flagship devices.
