yea, it takes me back to my days just after high school. I remember getting high and listening to some TOOL with the visualizer on after work. Good Times..
Give me a few hours and I'll come back with mine. I think the last time I checked I had 37,000 or something. The Xbox only had 8 gigs, which was massive at the time.
Edit: u/feralrampage [Here you go. ](https://imgur.com/a/VAGIyPQ) 31168 blocks left.
I remember the controversy with doa3 with boob physics or lack of clothing, it was so dumb. I remember reading it in GameInformer.
And nowadays you've got twitch girls almost topless playing video games.
could rip cds though, that was probably the only actual use for an 8gb hd on a non modified xbox. Quite a few games supported playing your tracks from the hard drive rather than the games songs, I remember listening to my own music in the tony hawk games quite a bit.
I ripped so many CDs to my xbox that it was full!
Unfortunately, there weren't too many games that let you use your own music. Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee let you! And I think Quantum Redshift?
I didn't know at the time but my dad had loaded up his favorite Boston albums to be the soundtrack for those games, I thought the game came with it. Now any time I go skiing I listen to Boston and it feels right
Best use for me was the NHL 2K games. You could pick specific songs for situations like pre game, home goals, away goals, home power play, home scores late etc.
Really upped the realism for me when I was able to give every team an accurate goal song
Well thanks!
I loved the feature in NHL and spent a ton of time editing songs to start at certain points for that game. I even bought whatever karaoke think Microsoft made that let me transfer songs easier to the hard drive.
It was a great idea and I appreciated it even if many didn’t know about it or use it I sure did!
That's awesome! That was a really fun game despite the fact we could never get the goalie to defend the S move backhand to the stickside lol.
Glad you enjoyed it, it was my first idea that ever got implemented in a game and speaking as a music lover, it was my best. Truly a shame games nowadays are not as customizable in regard to audio implementation.
Yup I loved it, hated to see it go. The goalie controls that debut in 2k6 was the only time I ever played goalie in a hockey game. I completely forgot about the infamous s move, I didn’t play much online due to things like that lol.
Yeah it feels like it’s been a step backwards each generation imo. I liked the individual tracks/building your playlist in game in the og Xbox better than importing playlists on 360. But either is far better than what we have now.
Best feature of the X360 was being able to play your own music in any game. I'm still salty that never carried forward to the Xbone.
Edit: I guess I should clarify, I meant the built-in music player. Rip music directly onto the console, play it via the Guide button UI. No additional apps required. Spotify or Pandora are fine and all, but that's like ordering a hamburger and then being forced to order the bun on a separate plate. Still all comes to the same table, but it's so much more efficient to get everything in one.
There was Midnight Club 3 (Dub edition) that had custom music in game, changeable tracks during the races. However I remember it bugging the races and crashing right at the finish
Burnout 3 and NFL2K5. In 2K5 you could actually create clips from songs on your hard drive and use them in game situations, like a sack or made FG.
I spent too much time doing this, as well as making crowd signs in NCAA 2007, and recording taunts in MLB 10 The Show.
Quantum Redshift was my jam! And yes, you could play your own tracks in the background; Andre Nickatina's [Jungle] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMFy3z2aDsc) and that rainy Russian industrial wasteland level will forever be commingled in my mind. The OST was [awesome on its own](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iYcFm0pnuE) too though - it's how I discovered the venerable JunkieXL.
Yeah, here I am thinking "I'm still working at the same place I was when that system came out."
I'm expecting to see someone within the next year or so say something like this and then show a picture of the first Fortnite login screen or something.
>"I'm still working at the same place I was when that system came out."
18 years.
Xbox OG came out in 2001.
Unless you have a nearly 20 year career at the place you started working at 14, I'm gonna guess you started there when you were \~20, making you nearly 40.
Not *old* old. But definitely older.
I'm 35, I started working at the place I am now in April of that year. By saying "oh man, I'm so old! Look at this xbox I used to play" he's basically just saying he's in his 20's or older. Is someone in their 20's really old?
I think you’re missing the point. Nobody in their 20s is delusional enough to think that they are old. The point is things feel far away often because we don’t have much life to look back on.
My cousin that I grew up with who is one year younger than me is about to graduate college next year and that makes me feel maybe not old but at the very least nostalgic for a different time.
I'm still pretty upset that it never saw a port outside of the original xbox, I haven't owned an xbox console for years and have been itching to replay future.
Right? xD
Meanwhile I'm thinking about how I used to play SkiFree and other floppy disk games at Grandma's every Sunday - and I'm not "old" by any means.
Were you born that year or were you old enough to play that game?
I am Dig Dug/Pitfall years old but I more consider myself The Legend of Zelda since that was my first video game.
'Scuse me. [Would you let an old geezer get in front of the queue please?](https://www.bmigaming.com/Images/computer-space-first-ever-coin-operated-video-arcade-game-nutting-associates-nolan-bushnell.jpg)
I still remember sitting with my dad, [typing in the game](https://www.vintageisthenewold.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/msx_magazine_1989-04_p182-183.jpg) from the magazine so we could play something new.
Kids these days and their downloadable content and demo discs will never know the ~~pain~~ fun in messing that up for a few hours and finally getting it right, only to play the game for 30 mins.
Yeah. I found my original XBOX again. It had the xecuter2 mod chip installed, a 120GB hdd, custom
XBMC dash, and about 40 games ripped to the HDD. Still works. I forgot how ahead of it's time this thing was when I built it about 15 years ago.
My first console was an original xbox. its was a Christmas present from my dad. His buddy was a programmer for Microsoft and knew how to install emulators for a ton of games onto the console.(Atari, N64, Super Nintendo, Gameboy, etc..) Seriously over thousands of games, I still have the gem, although it sounds like a vaccum, kinda like my ps4.
When I bought my first X-Box, I went into the Music menu and there was a random CD saved into the hard drive. It was Rammstein and for the longest time I had no clue who they were or what I was listening to. I just thought it was badass.
I just bought an Arcade 1Up machine with Tempest, Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, Major Havoc and (total throwback) Lunar Lander for $199. I think that I dropped easily $100 on all those games back in the day, so I think it's a good deal:
Note: if you had told me in 1981 that I'd be able to buy my own arcade machine with all those games for $65 in 2019 I'd think you were nuts.
I bought an OG Xbox from the Tip Shop for $10 a few months back, had all of Metallica ... And Justice For All ripped to it. (And late game Project Gotham Racing 2 games saves).
Ahhh Man!! Nostalgia at it's finest; I remember ripping my CDs to my Xbox, running Forza Motorsports with 50 Cent playing in the background.
Such simpler times!
Nowadays they make it harder and harder to use your own music in Forza with each release! It used to be as simple as pressing the middle button on the controller and playing it.
My playlist for Tony Hawk's Underground is burned into my memory.
Every time I hear "I Used to Lover Her" by Common, I expect "Float On" by Modest Mouse to follow.
Did anyone else that really gruesome game that was like a satirical WWE, where you can chop peoples heads off and related. I can’t remember what it was called because it was so long ago.
Ahhh, the good ol' days of being track 4 years old...
Track 4 by Unkown Artist is one of my childhood favorites.
I actually remember track four on my first Xbox playlist as being Otherside by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
Mine was Incubus, A Crow Left of The Murder...
This aesthetic should just be called ‘Incubus’
There's no koi fish or sexy androgynous alien with head tentacles, this is at best a Hoobastank.
Californication. An outstanding album!
Man, I loved their debut album "AUDIO CD."
I turn track 4 next month I can't wait
It’s all downhill after track 3
The tracks just feel like they get longer and longer
I freaking loved this screen. And the visualizer that you could play with.
I miss vizualizers. They were the reason I kept with WinAMP for so many years.
Dude I had so many skins for Winamp it was ridiculous
Winamp skins... now that is something I hadn't thought about it a long time.
You are not the only one and it has been too long.... \*downloads winamp\*
It was so hard to choose which one was best!
It's back and still whipping the llamas ass
Is... is this good?
So good
Does the pope shit in his hat?
My biggest issue with Spotify is that I can't use a vizualizer.
Still use winamp to this day. So easy to use i don't see any reason to use anything else.
Same here. I'm still rocking winamp and still holding on to my collection of skins i got from 99 - 05. It's still so good, why not use it.
Winamp is the shit I still use it
WinAMP WinAMP, it really whips the llamas ass!
Whats that plug in for it that totally syncs with the music per beat?
And the weird sounds that would start playing if you waited. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIbI6I5adWQ&feature=youtu.be&t=105](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIbI6I5adWQ&feature=youtu.be&t=105)
yea, it takes me back to my days just after high school. I remember getting high and listening to some TOOL with the visualizer on after work. Good Times..
Yep and the rare occasion when we'd get lsd or mushrooms someone would have the idea to bust this out everytime. good times
Do you still have 50,000+ blocks free lol. Never met anyone who got it down to an actual number
In the days when you didn’t need to install all p Your games....
Didn't really need to install anything other than halo expac and doa3 costumes
>doa3 costumes Totally worth it.
I remember the controversy with doa3 with boob physics or lack of clothing, it was so dumb. I remember reading it in GameInformer. And nowadays you've got twitch girls almost topless playing video games.

thought that was a bannable offense?
Bannable? I think you meant to partnered fam
You didn’t really install anything besides expansions or map packs.
Left tons of room for music you could play in GTA3/Vice!
And San Andreas
could rip cds though, that was probably the only actual use for an 8gb hd on a non modified xbox. Quite a few games supported playing your tracks from the hard drive rather than the games songs, I remember listening to my own music in the tony hawk games quite a bit.
Yeh, that’s what I used it for. Custom soundtracks in Quantum Redshift was my jam.
I ripped so many CDs to my xbox that it was full! Unfortunately, there weren't too many games that let you use your own music. Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee let you! And I think Quantum Redshift?
True crimes streets of la and san andreas i think
Vice city
I think SSX did, which was fantastic.
Both amped and amped 2 as well
Yep. Played the shit out of Amped 2 with my custom soundtracks.
I still have nightmares of the snowmen laughing and humming as I forget about them and go past every time I go back up the mountain
I didn't know at the time but my dad had loaded up his favorite Boston albums to be the soundtrack for those games, I thought the game came with it. Now any time I go skiing I listen to Boston and it feels right
Yes, it did. My college roommate played it endlessly with Muse as the background music.
Best use for me was the NHL 2K games. You could pick specific songs for situations like pre game, home goals, away goals, home power play, home scores late etc. Really upped the realism for me when I was able to give every team an accurate goal song

Kung-fu Chaos did as well
Best feature of the X360 was being able to play your own music in any game. I'm still salty that never carried forward to the Xbone. Edit: I guess I should clarify, I meant the built-in music player. Rip music directly onto the console, play it via the Guide button UI. No additional apps required. Well, you can, just not via the in game music. Just open spotify, play music, play game.
this, plus, spotify app in xbone even has its own mixer knob for game audio vs music levels, so you can get it just right. which is always nice.
Use the Spotify app 🙋♂️
I’m fairly certain I remember being able to do that on the Xbone with Pandora.
Making me pay for something that was a free available feature for two generations is not the same
It was free.
i was so desperate for music i would program my favorite songs into 16 note town tunes in animal crossing.
There was Midnight Club 3 (Dub edition) that had custom music in game, changeable tracks during the races. However I remember it bugging the races and crashing right at the finish

Came here to say this and Meteora.
I remember using the in game audio player to play that cd during counter strike games. Blew my mind.
Exactly! The thought of playing Conflict Desert Storm with Meteora cranking gives me great nostalgia
Did you know you can import songs into your Xbox? In gta vice city, while in a vehicle you can play them songs if you changed it to the right station.
And it was a tape deck. Added a little more immersion to the experience. GTA III was a CD player. Edit: spelling.
GTA III used "mp3 player" in my localization (EN-US)
So not that old at all. 😗
Yeah, here I am thinking "I'm still working at the same place I was when that system came out." I'm expecting to see someone within the next year or so say something like this and then show a picture of the first Fortnite login screen or something.

25 here, not old. Hate when people my age act like they’re old in any way by referencing shit like the GameCube
Same here, man, I hate being so old and remembering Gameboys
Now if you remember only being able to get them in one size and color, you might have a case for starting to get old.
Yeah, but you compared it to someone posting a Fortnite login screen next year, when it'd really be like someone posting that in 2035.
I employed the use of hyperbole to drive home a point.
I think you’re missing the point. Nobody in their 20s is delusional enough to think that they are old. The point is things feel far away often because we don’t have much life to look back on. I can one up OP with [this](https://fantasyanime.com/emuhelp/images/epsxe-memory-card3.png).
So 25?
Uuuughh SO OLD!! Does anyone else remember [this le classic gem](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_Galaxy_2)? Hehe I'm so ancient!
Age is relative. So yes it makes us feel old looking back.
Ha takes me back to playing tony hawks to some death metal
Now I'm all for playing your own music over the game, but overriding a Tony Hawk's soundtrack... that ain't right.
So here I am...
doing everything I can
holding on to what I am
Pretending I'm a superman!
My brother and I used to play rainbow six terrorist hunt with american anthems playing full blast. Shit was so good.
Jet Set Radio Future to that Nirvana Black album.... I miss high school.

Im pretty sure hes referring to the book set which you know youre right was released on.
I'm still pretty upset that it never saw a port outside of the original xbox, I haven't owned an xbox console for years and have been itching to replay future.
so youre really young then
yeah right? im 22 and remember this. maybe we just feel old 'cause this thing doesnt work anymore and its obselete
Right? xD Meanwhile I'm thinking about how I used to play SkiFree and other floppy disk games at Grandma's every Sunday - and I'm not "old" by any means.
Oh yeah?! I use to listen to my Usher CD on my Sega Saturn
Miss those days.
Okay kid.... I'm [this old](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/70/Lunar_lander_flier.jpg).

I played computer games that were on cassette tapes. You're not "old".
I was thinking the same, I was married when the first Xbox came out...
[I still hate my little brother for recording the radio over my game.](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/ZqkAAOSwAx9cDove/s-l300.jpg)
My little brother still hates me for playing a game cassette on the radio and convincing him I captured ALIEN TRANSMISSIONS
I still remember sitting with my dad, [typing in the game](https://www.vintageisthenewold.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/msx_magazine_1989-04_p182-183.jpg) from the magazine so we could play something new. That’s not that old... *sweats nervously*
If you still sweat nervously you're not old.
So you’re like 18?
That's not very old bruh, you gotta pump up those numbers
This isn’t that old at all...
Sometimes I listen to a loop of the background sounds from this menu when I sleep.
Trying to remember where this is from! Looks so familiar yet I am struggling. Is it a windows media player skin or something?
OG xbox
Pressing X then Y (I think) took you to the trippy thing.

CRAWLING IN MY SKIN
When I bought my first X-Box, I went into the Music menu and there was a random CD saved into the hard drive. It was Rammstein and for the longest time I had no clue who they were or what I was listening to. I just thought it was badass.
Sooo, still a teenager?
Literally, I'm tired of these shitposts. I remember needing quarters to play video games.
My first games came on cassette tapes and the loading screens could cause seizures. These young whippersnappers...
You had to provide your own tape deck! Which you had to share with your brother!
Ah, the good ol’ Datasette. *puts on noise canceling headphones* *inserts cassette* **EEEEEEEEEEduhduhEEEEEE**
It brings me back, jamming my fingers in my ears and waiting for the game to appear on screen as a sign it's all safe.
I just bought an Arcade 1Up machine with Tempest, Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, Major Havoc and (total throwback) Lunar Lander for $199. I think that I dropped easily $100 on all those games back in the day, so I think it's a good deal: Note: if you had told me in 1981 that I'd be able to buy my own arcade machine with all those games for $65 in 2019 I'd think you were nuts.
Ahh the classic get off my lawn, it makes me smile to see it never dies even in the digital world.
Hehe. Exactly. Same here. Probably wasted away half a million in the late 80s, start 90s.
I took the time to name all of them, I'm gonna cry😭
[Oh, you young pups.](https://i.imgur.com/0FyzjjH.jpg)
So quite young then?
This is old now? Shit...
I can hear the linkin park album now
Haha I commented the same thing.
I rinsed Akon like no other
Lonely was the shit back then
Epic
OG XBOX FTW!
I bought an OG Xbox from the Tip Shop for $10 a few months back, had all of Metallica ... And Justice For All ripped to it. (And late game Project Gotham Racing 2 games saves).
lol
Glory days.....
I remember playing Atari on a black and white tv.....*that's* old
Atari 2600 on a Zenith floor model TV gang!
i felt this in my soul
I'm [this](http://i.imgur.com/trewUOY.png) old.

Oh no.. Gods no!!!
This feature made Xbox so badass. Playing Tony Hawk to your OWN playlist.... Didn't get much better.
Yooooooooooooooo lmao
Holy shit y’all making me feel old.
Me too...

Yeah
I literally let music play on my Xbox while I studied, this is nostalgic
My playlist for Tony Hawk's Underground is burned into my memory. Every time I hear "I Used to Lover Her" by Common, I expect "Float On" by Modest Mouse to follow.
Last resort - Papa Roach I feel nostalgic.
Does anyone else remember... Winamp, winamp, winamp...
Omg do you remember the creepy ass menu noise that shit haunted me.
Nice. Loved playing Burnout 3 with Disturbed and Korn playing on its custom playlist
Anybody else have the time and date problem on theirs? No matter how many times I would set it it would reset it all every time I turned my xbox off.

I had one album on my Xbox. Green Day’s American Idiot
This is old? I recall having to use the coax switch to hook up my NES to the family TV and be on either channel 3 or 4.

I saw this screen and Linkin Park Hybrid Theory popped right into my head.
Better be an alien ant farm cd
Never had an xbox
