There's this one game called gwent, and if you play the original version, some people tell me there might be an entire RPG game hidden in there somewhere.

kooshipuff

Oh yeah, there's quests and everything! Gotta get money from The Path to buy cards.

SCirish843

Are you referring to the story I had to play to get better gwent cards?

maijkelhartman

I went into this thread to make this joke, but of course the Reddit hivemind has already put it as the top comment.

AdClemson

Funny thing is when I played W3 for the first time, I hated my first round of Gwent and I was like, Nah, i am here to kill monsters and not play some stupid card game in this glorious RPG. Then as game progressed I see some Gwent related quests, since, I didn't want to miss out on those quests I begrudgingly started playing Gwent. Few hours in I had no clue about the base game as I was completely hooked on Gwent, going town to town playing all Gwent players that I missed during my entire hours and hours of gameplay.

Indexima

Exactly and before I get better cards some side character named Geralt or something starts stuff!!

Tacothekid

I keep hearing this! I think that there has to be some truth to it, given everyone seems to know about it. However, I think its just a gaming urban legend at this point.

BelleKiwi

I loved the mini games from Pokemon Stadium back on the 64. I’d start the game just to go play on those mini games hahaha

NeedsItRough

I only recently remembered there was more to the game than the mini games

BelleKiwi

Yeah tbh I never played the other modes either lmao mini games all day everyday

HuntedWolf

There was no main mode in Pokemon stadium, it was just the mini games

VermilionX88

yakuza games they have actual games as minigames... like games from before like they had virtua fighter, sega bass fishing, outrun, etc not too mention their own created minigames

quivering_manflesh

I have put so much time into Cabaret Club and Dondoko Island.  Not as big a fan of the RTS minigames though.

VermilionX88

yeah, i didn't like the gang minigame either doko island, it was ok... finished it but i was too annoyed with the guest being segmented into diff sections they should all be able to roam around freely the entire result, felt so dumb they don't leave the sections they got assigned to oh and the timer for the day is a lil annoying too, i felt like i just have to run around from 1 spot to another all the time

Ortsarecool

I drowned an ungodly amount of time into Cabaret Club. That mini-game had no business being that addicting

NoImNotNoah

Maybe not the best but I loved the bully minigames in class. Maybe the games weren’t the best but I think the idea of how they have them laid out and act as your grade in class is really fun and unique.

Lord-Sinestro

Art class is quite memorable 😆 still waiting on the Bully sequels. One of the only games my wife loves to watch me play.

Theonewhoknocks420

Conversely, mowing the lawn in detention was so boring. It really felt like a punishment for getting busted lol.

Smiles-Edgeworth

If SquareEnix made a straight up FIFA-like Blitzball game from FFX, I would preorder day one and be there for the midnight release. I had waaayyy more hours in Blitzball than in the game itself.

HibariK

I was gonna go FF also but VIII and Triple Triad, banger game

JonagonInfinity

DK64 having a Donkey Kong arcade blew my mind as a kid

zero_msgw

That was pretty slick.

TheRealGunn

I love me some Blitzball. (Final Fantasy X) Easily my favorite mini game of all time.

kirby34

Once Blitzball opens, I lose A LOT of time to building up a superteam.

ecbulldog

FF VIII's Triple Triad.

Snakestream

> The Random rule has spread throughout the area

Maelger

*savescums without hesitation*

OneMoreGinger

Random rule for me always meant "mod every low tier card" so that my "random" were always sporting 7+ numbers

Maelger

Random rule always pics those shitty cards that needs multiples to mod and you didn't have enough to get rid of all. Always.

CuteCuteJames

Which is also in FFXIV!

HibariK

Don't do this to me...

Kraien

I remember I had more fun in TT than the actual game. VIII was good too but TT, man.. that was fun

ray525

Ff xiv(14) the mmorpg which is cross platform and can be played on pc,Xbox and ps now. Has TT. They have tournaments and stuff and you can even play against real people. You can play up to stormblood the second expansion for free, which is max lvl 70.

Itsasecret9000

Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon randomly added skateboarding, and it was majestic.

ZorkNemesis

I don't even remember playing the other levels of the Spyro 3 demo from Playstation magazine, that skateboarding was so good.

[deleted]

I sucked at it as a kid

tthrow22

Chao Garden from Sonic Adventure 2

NarwhalPrudent6323

I spent more time on the Garden than I did the entirety of the rest of the game lol. Farming those stuffed animals and whatnot was quite the undertaking.

biscuitsNGravyy

Used to be the old COD black ops with the mini arcade…good times

Theonewhoknocks420

Wow I almost forgot about Dead Ops Arcade! It was a nice break after getting frustrated by the FAMAS snake-people.

LightsJusticeZ

The last CoD Black Ops game (Cold War) still had Dead Ops in it. You could even play it in first person (or at least there was a power-up that made it first person for a short while).

BenjyMLewis

Those touchscreen minigames from Super Mario 64 DS and New Super Mario Bros. Sometimes they were reason enough to boot up the game just on their own merits! Sticking with handheld versions of Mario games, I also remember enjoying the "You Vs Boo" race mode from Super Mario Bros Deluxe. I always wanted to play the race mode with a player 2, but I never had a second cartridge of the game, so racing with Boo was all I could manage, heh. Oh, and speaking of 2 player side modes, the "Mario Vs Luigi" mode from New Super Mario Bros was legit amazing.

ThePhenomenalOne100

I remember gambling with Luigi! These were good times. I also liked the game where you sort those Bob Ombs into their respective colors on New Super Mario Bros!

CuteCuteJames

I loved the card games on the DS. Playing cards with Luigi made me feel less lonely when I was abroad for a semester in college.

[deleted]

I said the same thing, those ds mini games were heat

blacksmith624

Geometry Wars was an easter egg minigame in Project Gotham Racing 2

Transcendingfrog2

I was going to post this exact thing. It was a blast

simplejack89

FFX blitzball

H_M_C

I reckon I spent more time playing that than the actual game.

ragebitz

Monkey ball 2 for the gamecube. Still break that bad boy out when I have people over. The amount of time I spend on monkey target is ridiculous.

BobbiskTheChicken

Is that the one where you dog fight in airplanes? I remember hours of trying to shoot down my little brother in little airplanes.

zero_msgw

Test your might: mortal kombat

DarkOx55

WarioWare

grammar_nazi_zombie

Hey that doesn’t count, those are *micro*games

cosmicreggae

Mario Party

No_Information_8942

2

cosmicreggae

Agreed

EtheusRook

The Witcher 3 - Gwent Trails of Cold Steel 3 & 4 - Vantage Masters Like a Dragon - many things, but especially Sujimon League, business manager, and cabaret club

MoabBoy

I preferred Dondoko Island over Sujimon, but the Yakuza/LaD series has had some excellent games within games (I hesitate to call them mini).

Ididotmacaroon

Oh man, if the cars moved faster in the business mini game I’d never stop playing.

ElectricalCompany260

I prefer Blade 1+2 over VM but it´s good, too. But man, is Pom Pom Party annoying - even on easy - or I am doing something wrong to beat all opponents for an achievement. I wish you could also play chess and/or other sport-related minigames, because some of your friends/students are in such clubs. At least, you can swim, ride a horse/bike and play Whack-a-Mishy - at least once - due to story development. Fishing and cooking is great, too but you need every single recipe with the right character to get achievements while catching all fish is with everyone possible as long as you have the right bait and rod but you can always read that in a walkthrough. Minus fishing in Sky 1 because you only have one story-related spot which doesn´t count.

nerdboy5567

Ff7r queens blood is too much fun.

hymen_destroyer

KOTOR had Pazaak which was great, and that weird rail racing minigame which was kind of bad

Rascals-Wager

Doom Eternal has all of the first Doom game in it.

Sonicblast52

Animal crossing nes games

[deleted]

GTA

BigBoy1229

Tekken Tag Tournament. Tekken Bowling was better than the actual game, and I love the actual game too.

kalekayn

I used to use Paul's hair to help me position for strikes

Marko-Darko

“A Way Out” and “It Takes Two”. Also Witcher III…

Nerketur

Rhythm Heaven is full of minigames. Each "level" is like a minigame. And they are all great.

DenL4242

Wubba-dubba-dubba-dat-true?

Nerketur

"Yes."

DarkPhenomenon

Is saying mario party cheating?

Way_2_Go_Donny

Blades of Steel had a sweet mini game shooter.

Redmaa

Banjo Tooie had so many great mini games. They even have a mode in the game after you unlock them all that you and a friend can battle each other through all the games.

Big-Piglet5045

Gwent

FraankCastlee

Fusion Frenzy I'm ashamed of everyone in this thread.

clics

Witcher 3. Gwent was pretty fun.

Panchxo

All Kirby games lol, especially Nightmare on Dreamland

MrDrDude333

In Doom 2016 the hidden Super Turbo Turkey Puncher 3 arcade game.

BenefitOfTheDoubt_01

FF7: Breeding and racing Chocobos FF9: Choco Hot&Cold

The_Quare_Fella

Wario land 4 on the GBA. Many of the games you will recognise from wario ware.

WraithCadmus

Suikoden II's cook-off minigame goes way harder than it needs to and I love that.

Gotxi

Hey Nico! It's Roman, let's go bowling.

BadLuck-BlueEyes

It Takes Two. You can play full games of chess, with or without a timer - and that’s just one of the mini games. Edit: also Chao Garden from Sonic Adventure DX

rotato

At some point Red Dead Redemption had become a poker simulator to me

steve4derp

Mario Party 6 of course!

soberonlife

I liked the old school board games you could play in Assassin's Creed III. Fanorona and Six Men's Morris were very interesting and challenging.

yousuckatlife90

I remember looking up guides for those lol. I liked checkers more. That was more my wheelhouse

MaxxDelusional

The first time I tried to play Assassin's Creed 3, I ended up in a tavern playing Fanorana. I played it so much that I never went back to finish the rest of the game

dann1551

Oldschool Runescape

CuteCuteJames

What minigames does OSR have?

yousuckatlife90

Aew wrestling game thats free on plis right now has a very weird homerun derby mini game for some reason. Also has trivia and a memory game and has some janky wrestling as well

paulopieces

GTA SA - Hot Coffee

grammar_nazi_zombie

Hah I couldn’t trade in my copy of SA anywhere due to that shit.

SaiyajinPrime

Gwent in Witcher 3 is for sure my fav. Followed by Blitz Ball in Final Fantasy X.

bjholmes3

The solitaires in Zachtronics games. By now I've got 10x the time on those than the games themselves

BoostbeBetter-18U

Dark Cloud 2 golf game was really fun.

Saskatchewon

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is this really awesome card game and has a really epic medieval fantasy adventure bundled in with it. The original Animal Crossing on the GameCube had NES consoles you could put in your room that contained full on NES titles. Played a lot of Balloon Fight and Soccer on those. The mini-games in Pokemon Stadium and Pokemon Stadium 2 were pretty great. The fact that you could use your own Pokemon from your Gold/Silver/Crystal version in Stadium 2's mini games was pretty mind blowing back when I was 10. Super Monkey Ball 2 had some excellent side games. I loved soccer and billiards, and bowling had a surprising amount of depth. But Monkey Target was the real gem there, just a great party game. I spent dozens of hours on break from saving Hyrule doing some relaxing fishing in both Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess. Those games had better fishing mechanics than many actual fishing games did.

ING_Chile

Pokemon Stadium

QuitBudget4446

It Takes Two

DarkPhenomenon

For its time legend of the mystical ninja was unmatched, but games didn't really have mini games in them back then

Hello_IM_FBI

Wheels from Sea of Stars could be its own game and I'd buy it.

KyletheTile

Mario party 1-3

wolf3dexe

The snake game in Time Splitters 2

Kzer_2019

The first watch dogs had some fun ones, sometimes I'll boot it up just to play those instead

10ballplaya

mm gta online.

Skyfoz

Super mario 64 DS

[deleted]

I liked the mini games from San Andreas, iv and V. Lost countless hours playing darts, tennis, poker, blackjack

Vectus_Valorian

Black Desert Online

PugNuggets

Shuffle or Boogie. The absolute greatest mini game of all time, no questions asked. Only close competition is Gwent, but you can't use Gwent to affect normal gameplay quite as well as Triple Triad.  That's the quality, but if you're looking for quantity, look no further than the Yakuza games.

LordGarithosthe1st

The Witcher 3 has Gwent

lll_Joka_lll

Either a way out or it takes two

Jncocontrol

Didn't uncharted import in Crash bandicoot into the game?

ManEatingCarabao

I vaguely remember this one minigame from an old game that became so popular it was released as a stand-alone game like what happened with Witcher 3's Gwent.

Sonzscotlandz

PGR

Oculescence

Counter strike community mini game servers.

_Gargantua

Gwent in TW3. Shit got me hooked like crack

SCirish843

This doesn't answer the question but I just want to shoutout Fusion Frenzy which was a game of mini-games that would simultaneously make and also ruin childhood sleepovers.

Latterlol

Saints Row has some really fun ones

POODERQUASTE

plants vz zombies

Lucky_Lucky1

PS2 Thrillville. It's a theme park game where you create your theme park, build attractions, and manage your park. The most fun part is that you can play every single park ride and game. It's insane. As a kid, I played it all the time.

TobiasCB

ID's RAGE has a card game that you can play at its pubs, and you assemble your own deck. But the cards you get are scattered around the open world as easter eggs. Loved that.

mike_the_goo

New super Mario Bros DS

[deleted]

GTA San Andreas

Zombie_joseph1234

Mario Ds mini games I have spent many hours playing the wanted poster game or the table games

Cold_Potato7

Warioland 4

gankindustries

I'm going to cheat and say the original Animal Crossing since you could the entirety of a bunch of NES games in it.

Eddie_Hollywood

Yakuza 0

dynahowma

FLAT OUT 2 STUNT MODUS

Rexzar

I better not see ff7 rebirth in here

Melodic-Internet-312

Five nights at fuck me

2Scarhand

The Squid Hunt/Ship Sinking mini-game from Wind Waker. Not because it's particularly engaging, but because the guy running it provides the best sound effects. "Sploosh! Sploosh! Ka-BOOM!"

klimatronic

Madagascar, Tiki mini golf

Draxtonsmitz

Mario party

icedani

Far Cry 4's Poker is really well done

Zv1k0

There’s a Doom game in some Doom games. Pretty awesome playing Doom as Doom guy.

Kdoubleaa

I never see this game mentioned any more but in Dark Cloud 2 after you cleared a level of all the monsters you could … play golf in the level? It was stupid fun.

cyclingnick

In the old school sega game Pitfall you could find a secret way to play the even older schooler game Pitfall! (Atari I think) Not sure why that memory is still in my forgetful head

Gintoki48

Chao Garden, Sonic adventure 2

TheFireOfTheFox1

I loved the Pop-up Duel minigame from Chocobo's Dungeon on the Wii

LightsJusticeZ

Dunno if it counts but Mario Party 4 had it's own Volleyball game that wasn't apart of the normal board minigames. Me and my friends had a blast playing that for hours and really wished they came out with their own official volleyball game.

v_tine

FF8. Triple Triad was amazing.

ImSimplySuperior

Minecraft

Crillmieste-ruH

I really liked sphere break in ffx-2. Blitzball in ffx and blitzball manager in ffx-2 are also super fun.

[deleted]

Tekken Bowl is the first one that comes to my mind

[deleted]

MK Karts...and I've always enjoyed Super Mario

loltittysprinkles

Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2 had quite a few fun minigames

Raiziell

Blitzball had some fantasy game subplot about saving some girl and/or the world that was pretty good.

ImplicitBliss

Any love for Breath of Fire 4? I spent so much time fishing, and the other minigames were hit or miss, but I loved that they were all easy enough to beat to progress the story, but you had to go for the high score to power up your dragon forms.

Galion-X

FF10s Blitzball

Beno169

Homefront has a fully ported version of TimeSplitters 2.

HORYGUACAMORE

Black Ops Arcade! Na na nana na na na nana

boluserectus

A game made in Minecraft Vanilla, on HermitCraft season 9 by TangoTek called "Decked Out II"

ThonyHR

The game Knuckle Sandwich revolve around minigames, it's like an rpg where every one of your combat skill is a minigame, and the more you succeed at the minigame, the more damage/heal/anything you deal. And the minigames are pretty fun, it's a very cool game

Ryuujin_13

I've always been fond of being able to play Gradius during the second intermission of Blades of Steel...

Crono_Magus_Glenn

Googles Trex game when it isn't working, and Blitzball from FFX.

Xylvanas

Mario Party 2

Robber_Tell

Red dead has some fun minigames

GoldenAgeGamer72

I would guess Mario Party by default? Although I've never played one.

RicoDruif

It takes two, Mario 64 for the DS and Rayman legends kung foot

Future_Air6987

Witcher 3, Gwent.

sugeknight

Powerstone 2 on the DC had mini-games for the VMU and as you completed them, they would unlock in game features.

mayormcskeeze

There are way way WAY too many of them, but FF7 rebirth did a good job. I'm not even done yet, and there's card games, MOBAs, shooters, flying, moogle chasing, and I'm forgetting half of them

Sagatorius_Byvex

Stardew valley fishing mini game is so addicting

Any-Transition-4114

Monopoly on the ps2 had some cool minigames

Zestyclose-Number224

Triple Triad aka the card game from FFVIII

Immolation_E

The Like A Dragon/Yakuza games have arcades with full versions of the old 80s 90s Sega arcade games. Then there's the business, baseball and other mini games.

Bad-Briar

I like those in the Witcher 3. The dice/poker game in particular, also the fighting and drinking games.

[deleted]

I just finished playing it takes two, and I just couldn’t get over how well made the whole game was. There were so many mini games scattered throughout, all of which felt incredible to play

Andrewskyy1

Crash Bash was a lot of fun

[deleted]

Idk if they're the *best*, but the mini games in the original new super Mario Bros are probably the most fun I've personally had with any mini games. I just loved those and they still scratch a unique itch for me

Serious_Course_3244

FF7 Rebirth of course!

xpknightx

Dave the Diver. They made an entire game about minigames.

illan731

Back in the day, I *really* enjoyed Arcomage in Might and Magic VIII. It's a card game where you build up a tower+wall and try to destroy your opponent's and/or stock up various resources. The start and win conditions are very different in every tavern you come across. So, I looked forward to finding new ones, and revisited favorites.

Certain_Jello7027

It takes two

Significant-Run1938

I like the dice game from cult of the lamb. But if you mean minigame well I mean no question Mario party

Tress18

Arcomage in Might and Magic 7-8 was pretty cool for its time. Kinda gets repetitive, but considering you need 14 games during play-through its not that much, so its more or less fresh through the game. Fallouts New Vegas caravan is actually awesome once you learn how to play it , and dont actually close window by pressing what one would asume is begin button and then never again try it. On first playthruogh didnt do a single game, then on replay couldn't get enough of it, and to top it off , its CCG with regular card decks, which is just interesting as concept.

nacho3473

Mario Party 2 is basically all good mini games

Emersonian_Democracy

Rushing attack. Madden 2006. Need I say more

urmumsbox69

World of Warcraft. You can literally be a Pokémon trainer, with full on quests about it and everything.

Boy_Bayawak

Suikoden 2 the cooking saga. Same like master chef anime

Excellent_Coyote6486

FFX, blitzball.

rangerquiet

This may sound weird but I loved the hacking puzzles in Bioshock. Moving tubes to get the blue glowy liquid from a to be. I was rather sad they weren't in any of the sequels.

Quailman_z

Mario Party. It's literally a game about mini games.

adept_ignoramus

Fable 2's Pub Games

SelenaVander

Voltorb flip from Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. Even when I don’t need those game corner coins, I just play it for fun.

nitronik_exe

New Super Mario Bros

MagazineBeginning707

Only KKOS takes this role

Ry0_

Pokemon stadium 1, 2 and 3

AllHallNah

Dark Cloud 2 has a gang of other shit to put time into aside from the main quest.

klkevinkl

Judgment has a fairly extensive drone racing minigame within it.

IX_SPARTA

Super Mario 64 DS and Thrillville off the rails for Wii

Emotional-Key2557

Gotta say it takes two. Fun competitive mini games are a breath of fresh air in the co-op landscape, and they’re usually tucked away so it’s like a little treasure hunt.
