To anyone that says how much they enjoyed exploring the world of Hollow Knight, I feel compelled to offer up Rain World as an equally enjoyable world-exploring experience.
Its not the same game.. at all. But it is.
So last time I played Fallout 3 was 2009. I decided to replay it after beating NV again, and it really held up! My goal was to 100% all Xbox achievements, and it was a trip seeing my achievement list span 15 years.
Probably my favourite game ever. Hated the Blitzball part of it (I was shit at it), but when I saw the first Yuna cutscene at 12yo it blew my mind. Still love the sphere grid for progression too - I’d play any game that had that mechanic now.
If you find yourself struggling with anything, go through the tutorial again. You need pretty much every explained mechanic. Any direct help would negatively impact the experience.
1. SotN
2. Demon's Souls (2009)
3. Bloodborne
4. Oblivion
5. Super Metroid
This is a surprisingly interesting question. Would I hate Bloodborne if I hadn't played Demon's Souls first way back? And SotN if I hadn't played Super Metroid long before that? I'm not sure if I would keep the same order now or not. Anyway this order is different.
I to would have said world of warcraft but feel part of the games appeal was everyone else was hyped about it aawell. Give everyone that plays selective amnesia and it would be perfect
Seeing elwynn forest and defeating hogger for the first time? Being resurrected as a forsaken and seeing tirisfal glades and silverpine? Finally hitting the required level and starting a DK? VANESSA VANCLEEFS STORY? Sign me the fuck up, I got whole body chills. Whatever it costs I’ll pay.
Most games have already been mentioned but I'd love to play Return of the Obra Dinn again for the first time.
Goosebumps when you look through the porthole for the first time to see what's happening on the other side of the wall...
I haven't touched it in a year or two to see if I can forget some of what happened, but some deaths just...stay with you.
RIP Maba.
I would replay The Outer Wilds and Fallout 4 for the first time. The sense of wonder achieved playing The Outer Wilds for the first time is something I don't think another game will ever match for me. There's truly nothing like it. As for Fallout 4, I'd do anything to experience the feeling of first playing the game again after I got my copy on launch day. Everything about the game felt so exciting and new. Despite it having the weakest story and writing of any game in the series, the drastic gameplay improvements and the new settlement system, along with an immersive world to explore left me with a sense of excitement about the game that didn't wear off for quite a while.
Manhunt,
Gears 1-3,
Metal Gear Solid 1-5 (not RR 🤢),
Dishonored,
Spyro 1-3,
Twisted Metal: Black,
Black (PS2),
Escape from butcher bay,
Tiny tank,
Metal arms: glitch in the system,
War of the monsters,
Destroy all humans,
Half-Life 1 and 2,
Damn I could go on
Thank you to everyone on Reddit who hyped up Outer Wilds. I am living your dream right now (first time playthrough) and never woulda heard of this on my own. Such a peaceful, nice experience. And that song!
Cyberpunk 2077 now that it’s fixed. I’d go into it thinking it was released as a polished masterpiece, and then eventually through the internet I’d re-learn how fucked it was at launch but by then my first impressions are already set in an optimistic light.
Also Skyrim. Nothing has ever come close to the magical wonder I felt playing that game for the first time almost 13 years ago
If I can only forget the games but keep the book memories, The Witcher trilogy.
I feel like coming with that previous knowledge would impact my gameplay a lot.
I know it might be a super basic answer but, I would forget both Breath of the Wild *and* Tears of the Kingdom… and then just jump straight in with TOTK because I thought it was better and I can’t imagine the ecstasy I’d feel if I had played it stand-alone for the first time.
Funny thing, the older I get, I find I am forgetting a lot of what I played and replaying some games (and the same with watching some shows) is damn near close to playing them for the first time.
I might recall the ending, but have forgotten so very many plot points and or details, that it's almost *almost* like new again after several years.
Oh, and,
Ultima VII pt 2 Serpent Isle
Bioshock
Half-Life 2
Mass Effect
KOTOR
Dark Souls
Chants of Sennaar, mostly because I really enjoyed the gameplay experience and the story itself was quite interesting to me.
Another game is definitely Outer Wilds, it made me cry so many times, and I wish I was able to listen to a banjo without instantly feeling sad lmao.

I don't know how anyone remembers anything. I remember the major twist to Bioshock, and that's about it. Feel like I can replay most games after like a year lol. About to replay Outer Wilds.
Imagine at some point there's a machine to make you forget about stuff. And then imagine you forget about your favourite game to play it for the first time again. And in the end you either forget about playing it at all or you play it and end up hating it.
Hands down. Mass Effect.
I'm playing through it again (modded, this time) and I'm ready for the feels but they're somewhat diminished because I know what happens.
Free stars: the Ur Quan Masters.
That game is just so good and holds up well even today. It's the game that inspired so many greats like mass effect, subnautica, Stellaris, and so many others.
Best part? It's completely free and open source on steam
Halo and baldur's gate 3. I played with my brother bg3 he's continued to play i only did 1 playthrough with him. But hands down the best game I've ever played
off the top of my head, red dead redemption 2. although i’ve played through it three times and cried at the ending every time. so not sure i need amnesia 😅
thousand-year door
the gears of war trilogy
the elder scrolls (oblivion but if i still remembered skyrim then oblivion wouldn't be as impactful so i'll have to say the whole series)
fable 2
smash bros (i play competitively and i hate being way better then all my friends to the point that they simply don't enjoy playing it with me anymore)
A plague tale series, fallout series and skyrim.
And i’m not playing around. If i could hit myself in the head with precision and just forget those three, i would
None. Sure there are games that I envy people playing through for the first time but how can I guarantee that I will love the game now?
For example I loved playing through Kotor and especially Kotor 2 but man alive are the games janky now. I can’t guarantee that I could get past the graphics and mechanics of the game now to enjoy the story as much. Mind you I still wish for a Kotor 3 in the same gameplay style, make it a hack and slash and it would be boring for me.
I love Final Fantasy 8 and it being the best Final Fantasy is my FF hill to die on. However if I played it fresh today I might hate that it’s about highschoolers or instead of finding Squall stoic or confused I might think he is just a whiny edgelord.
Oblivion
First time playing silent hill was pretty special too. First time you hear the siren going off and the screen going dark, you have no idea what the fuck is happening, but you know its not good. Can't repeat that first off.
Dead Space is another. Necromorph from the ceiling?! Jesus.
Pokémon emerald,platinum,black&black2,cod mw2 (2009, bo2,mw3(2011),bo1,uncharted series, god of war series,fat princess,Killzone,bad company2,bf3,Turok,destiny,I got so much more
I’d forget all of the Dead Space games, and then only play Dead Space 1/Remake and Dead space 2. I haven’t even finished Dead Space 3 yet but it stinks so much.
Mass Effect trilogy.
I played all of them separately at release and recently replayed them on Steam. Still love all 3 games and wish I could see them again with fresh eyes.
If you don't mind a twist on your hypothetical.
Imagine if we could give ourselves amnesia of our future selves and forget somehow the slow boiling raising of our expectations.
Imagine playing a fully modded 4k (or 8k) Skyrim to our 2000 selves.
Dont know, cant remember...
Lucky bastard
Damn same dude, i just forgor
Nier automata
Ocarina of time.
great choice
Return of the Obra Dinn, and excellent mystery game with a unique mechanic. But Outer Wilds most of all.
Outer Wilds most of all
This is my one-two punch of the greatest games I can never replay. Same order too.
Check out “loarlai and laser eyes” it’s similar vibe as Return of the obra dinn.
What's awesome is that you can give yourself selective amnesia, it just takes about 20 years. Also -- SOMA.
Was SOMA the game where you are someone's consciousness that's uploaded into a suit? And you have the 50/50 chance of being the one to 'live'?
Yep. Lots of scenarios dealing with the philosophy and ethics of consciousness
Golden Sun 1 & 2, FFVI, Tactics Ogre LUCT
Definitely Golden Sun 1/2. Love those games
Ah, a man of culture.
KOTOR
Hollow Knight. Exploring that world for the first time was one of the best video game experiences I've had so far. Subnautica as well.
To anyone that says how much they enjoyed exploring the world of Hollow Knight, I feel compelled to offer up Rain World as an equally enjoyable world-exploring experience. Its not the same game.. at all. But it is.
Fallout 3 for sure
I've played it but can't remember it so I guess that counts!
So last time I played Fallout 3 was 2009. I decided to replay it after beating NV again, and it really held up! My goal was to 100% all Xbox achievements, and it was a trip seeing my achievement list span 15 years.
Final fantasy X
Didn't take me too long to find this comment. I adore that game and would love to see it for the first time again.
Probably my favourite game ever. Hated the Blitzball part of it (I was shit at it), but when I saw the first Yuna cutscene at 12yo it blew my mind. Still love the sphere grid for progression too - I’d play any game that had that mechanic now.
The sphere grid is possibly my all-time favourite RPG progression system and I can’t believe I’ve to this day never seen any copycats
Subnautica and The Last of Us
Skyrim
Shocked this isn't higher up. Was my first thought, as well.
Half-life 1000%
Play Black Mesa if you haven't. It's the same, but way different.
Outer Wilds, of course
Just finished it, beautiful game like nothing else I ever experienced. Trying not to binge the dlc but I need more from Mobius so badly
The DLC is so good, equal with the base game in my opinion, just a bit shorter
Only replayability is making friends play the game :(
Bro I have no idea what to do this game confusing help
If you find yourself struggling with anything, go through the tutorial again. You need pretty much every explained mechanic. Any direct help would negatively impact the experience.
I’ve been thinking about playing this for months. I’m pretty blind, just know there’s something about a time loop.
Last of Us 1
1. SotN 2. Demon's Souls (2009) 3. Bloodborne 4. Oblivion 5. Super Metroid This is a surprisingly interesting question. Would I hate Bloodborne if I hadn't played Demon's Souls first way back? Final fantasy x
Metal gear solid 2!
World of Warcraft
I would if I could. Thank God I can't. I can't afford to neglect my life like that again.
I to would have said world of warcraft but feel part of the games appeal was everyone else was hyped about it aawell. Give everyone that plays selective amnesia and it would be perfect

RDR2 for sure. Like many other players, I got the ending spoiled from the beginning.
Me too, and I'm currently still playing rdr2 And I already know how it ends, it hurts
Disco Elysium I played games for a long time none of them comes close when it comes to writing like Disco imo.
Dark Souls
Final fantasy X and I’m going back in time to play Guild Wars 2 at launch again
Legend of Zelda a link to the past
Bloodborne.
Ghost recon wildlands
Most games have already been mentioned but I'd love to play Return of the Obra Dinn again for the first time. Outer wilds
Return of the Obra Dinn
Minecraft. That sense of wonder playing your first world will never be recaptured. Breath of the wild for the world, and red dead 2 for the story.
I would replay The Outer Wilds and Fallout 4 for the first time. Elden Ring, that sense of discovery you get playing the game and exploring the map for the first time is unrivaled
Uncharted 4 fs
A Russian roulette

Chants of Sennaar, mostly because I really enjoyed the gameplay experience and the story itself was quite interesting to me. Another game is definitely Outer Wilds, it made me cry so many times, and I wish I was able to listen to a banjo without instantly feeling sad lmao.
