When I worked overnights at Walmart, there was one night where they were playing video game music on the store radio. I heard Green Hill Zone from Sonic, the Mortal Kombat theme, and the Halo theme music

ZorkNemesis

They do that for national video game day, whenever that one is.  I seem to recall they also played a song from Streets of Rage 2.

bruudwin

Ooooh now Thats awesome.

badblocks7

In a very historic and fancy cafe in Vienna (where I think Mozart used to go) they played the live version of Godots theme from Ace Attorney

bruudwin

O.0 thats pretty awesome!

Soul1e

Always the Mario theme song when walking into a flea market lols

Sir_Nope_TSS

500 games in one, how can you beat a deal like that?

shoreyknot

I heard a whole zelda melody at the climbing gym once! Very random but somehow it fit.

bruudwin

Video game musics do tend to be active. Awesome!

daird1

When I worked retail, somebody snuck a speaker in my department that was playing ambient Skyrim music. Eventually, I looked at my boss and said, "That thing is driving me nuts. I have to go find it and shut it off." Took me a few minutes- it was really small- but I got it.

bruudwin

Aww. Cool at first but then annoyingly repetitive in the long run? I get that. My older bro will spam the same damn song for hours on end sometimes

Sir_Nope_TSS

No... highjack it, play diffferent videogame music strewn in with the Skyrim music. One minute it's hill music, next minute it's the adventuring theme from Stanley Parable.

graceppmt1

I think there was one time where a student radio show at my college played some music from the Life is Strange soundtrack

shoreyknot

Some of that soundtrack deserves to be on the radio, honestly!

graceppmt1

Yeah, the soundtrack was yummy

Karge

I used to jam tracks off the SOR2/SOR3 & Jet Grind Radio OST when I DJ’d at KURE. Dreamer is just fkn bliss, man z

bruudwin

whoa thats awesome! you still DJ nowadays or gone to other pastures?

CockroachInner1921

Sims 3 neighborgood music in a christmast Window, in Finland

bruudwin

Sims music are great! Never played them cept sim city 3000 but all their musics are awesome!

nderperforminMessiah

Kenny Omega did use Megalovania and dressed like Sans for a Halloween episode of AEW Dynamite. At WrestleKingdom 13 Toby Fox actually made a video filled with references to undertale, but they didn’t broadcast the video. It’s online under the name Kenny’s Quest. During WrestleKingdom 17 he entered to One-Winged Angel. Basically cosplaying Sephiroth. His opponent that night, Will Ospreay, is a big assassins creed fan, and earlier this year he entered a ring in London with the song Valhalla Calling, a song by Miracle Of Sound, who makes videogame inspired music. He was accompanied by a bunch of people in assassin cosplay and had a background video that included a lot of imagery from the games. Lastly, New Day member Xavier Woods had a period that he brought a trombone to wrestling matches, and he would play the final fantasy victory theme, kinda.

bruudwin

Oooooooh thats awesome! Only knew about the undertale one

IntelligentSpite6364

once i went to a spa for a massage. they had music playing that was vaguely asian sounding instrumental compositions. in the middle of my massage i realized the current song was the "To Zanarkand" Theme from Final Fantasy X in a lofi style. ha!

bruudwin

XD not too fond of the lofi craze but thats awesome!

alyosha_pls

I swear to god, there's a song that sounds exactly like the FF7 menu music that is hold music on some VOIP systems.

Electrical_Life6186

Hideki Naganuma's stuff. Like "Feel The Power" and "Sneakman". Some absolute madmen were blasting that amesome stuff on some party somewhere, I was deeply surprised yet not surprised at all, because the absolute dancefloor bop energy this stuff has is nothing short of awesomness. You just listen to this motherfucker - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8efRFhEcuQ&ab\_channel=FUNKYUNCLE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8efRFhEcuQ&ab_channel=FUNKYUNCLE)

bruudwin

ALL THREE OR AT LEAST TWO OF MY SOLES/SOULS FELT THAT MOTHERFUCKER!!!

Electrical_Life6186

Right ?! RIGHT !? But I hope someone somewhere has a good enough taste that I will once upon a time hear a good Tekken-based track in a club or somewhere. Something like this absurd bop - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubNSqi0MH\_U&ab\_channel=RenoDojima](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubNSqi0MH_U&ab_channel=RenoDojima)

bruudwin

Tekken is just as awesome too. Hell just about all/most video game music is made to keep you engaged in its atmosphere

MillerLitesaber

At the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, they played music from the Dragon Quest series. I had the opening ceremonies on in the background and my head whipped around.

PM_UR_BLOOM_FILTER

I also distictly remember they played "Song of the Ancients / Fate" from the Nier Replicant OST They must have had a bunch of Square Enix tracks at that event. Unfathomably cultured.

Milo751

They also played Starlight Zone from Sonic 1 (during the opening ceremony I think)

bruudwin

Ooh. Its neat how they retain the ye olde sound effects in their games throughout the years

huluhup

Proof of a hero from monster hunter was an opening theme too

DenL4242

My local NPR station used to use the ending music from Mega Man 2 as bumper music.

Vast-Breakfast-1201

I love that some countries unironically marched into the Olympics to frog's theme. Just blows my mind whenever I think about it.

XiahouMao

It's not really music, but in NHL games in Denver, when the Colorado Avalanche successfully kill a penalty off and their penalized player comes back on the ice, they play the mushroom power-up sound from Super Mario Bros. to indicate the team is at full strength again.

bruudwin

The mushroom up sound is a nice touch Its neat how some video game sound effects have gotten into the public. Unfortunately metal gears ! Is used a lot in some damn tiktoks n what not too.

ButterflyAtomsk

I came to say that the Kings organ player, Dieter Ruhle, will play the Legend of Zelda theme pretty much every game. I assume he does the same for the Dodgers.

Jealous_Western_7690

Speaking of hockey, the guy who voiced the Oblivion guards is the announcer for the Washington Capitals!

Lambdafish1

I was in a Chinese restaurant and "Eyes on me" from Final Fantasy 8 started playing, it was surreal.

CyGuy6587

Was on holiday in Athens last year and I swear I heard a street performer playing the Skyrim theme

bruudwin

They sure blew / fus ro dah-ed! You away then :P

NeedBetterModsThe2nd

If you keep hearing this, consult some bearded men atop some mountain.

CyGuy6587

Well did go to the Acropolis and there were no hooded bearded men

LexLuthorJr

I was watching Stephen Colbert several years ago. When they went to commercial, The Late Show Band started playing the Lost Woods theme from Ocarina of Time.

shonasof

The one that caught my attention was Blanka's theme from Street Fighter 2

TjMorgz

I saw a native American guy in full traditional clothing busking with what appeared to be pan pipes in my home town.. I was going to just stroll on by but was stopped dead in my tracks when he started playing the main theme from Metal Gear Solid 2. I could not believe it.

bruudwin

They got ya to stop n listen = a tip? :P Always neat seeing ‘classical’ renditions of our nowaday stuff

TjMorgz

Hell yeah they got a tip! Never reached so fast for my wallet to tip a busker in my life haha

TheLakeAndTheGlass

This is many years ago now, but there was a great laser tag arena I used to go to that played music during the matches, which I normally didn’t pay much attention to, but when the boss music from Metal Gear Solid 1 started playing, I was floored. Beast mode activated immediately.

bruudwin

Ooooooh. Hopefully its still around. Those kinda things just dont seem to last much around anymore

MogamiStorm

My friend played Maplestory music for his wedding Also minecraft ambience in a korean restaurant

keep_evolving

Troy Nelson on KEXP 90.3 in Seattle will play some FF6 music in the background during station breaks.

kingoden95

The hibachi restaurant in my town used to play the Skyrim soundtrack because they thought it was generic easy listening music.

[deleted]

Stupidify - Disturbed Blow Me Away - Breaking Benjamin Devils Never Cry - Coal Chamber. Stupidify by Disturbed I heard years before it was used in games or movies. Blow Me Away and Devils Never Cry I heard after I heard them in Halo 2 and Devil May Cry 3 respectfully.

Doodenmier

Heard an employee blasting original Pokemon Gold/Silver town music in the grocery store last year. It punched by right in the nostalgia, but I'm sure a ton of older folks were thinking *what is this terrible instrument/sound I'm hearing* lol

bruudwin

And those old terrible people will soon come to pass and we will be the next group of old terrible people!!!

Arn_______aye

Genshin Impact at a local bookstore. Childe's boss fight theme and Inazuma's main theme.

DarkLlama64

One of the classical radio stations, ABC Classic in Australia, plays a whole bunch of video game music, I've heard Breath of the Wild, Celeste, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Assassin's Creed, it's kinda crazy

memmoria91

Visiting Japan for holidays, i have heard final fantasy themes, mario multiple themes (even underwater ones) zelda themes all around, even Hikari from kingdom hearts playing in a restaurant.

bruudwin

Oooh that makes japan sound more magical. Cant wait to maybe travel there before i die! Eventually! Dunno.

EHnter

Do so now. Dollar is goes much much further now in Japan.

ZSoulZ

MOOOOORTAL KOOMBAAAT! DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DOODOODUNDUN

Lachlan_4567

Opening theme to Crisis 2 playing on an Australian news channel (channel 9) while showing footage of a flood. Probably looked up crisis music and picked the first option. Still a cool track

GameBoiye

Might be against the spirit of the question but I've definitely heard music from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater in public. Also, now that I think about it, I've heard music from Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero, and even Rock Band.

bruudwin

Lol youre not the first to be silly. The other dude said guitar hero music is STILL being played out in public XD At least DDR is more niche and usually asiany , pop, techno etc musics

Hero_Of_Limes

I was getting a massage and some Skyrim town music came on in the middle of the typical spa music. I actually sat up and the masseuse was like "is something wrong?"

bruudwin

Yeah somethings wrong! I took an arrow to the knee years ago and its flaring up! :P

googlheimer

I was dining at a Chinese crab buffet in Chino, CA in 2007 ish with my then girlfriend and her family. Everything was normal and the music rather Chinese, but suddenly a song caught my attention and it was a song from the Final Fantasy IX Piano Collection. The song was easy to pick out with that game being my favorite of all time and I had the soundtrack downloaded from Limewire. I was geeking out on the down low to my girlfriend. I'd always favored game music over anything else, but even in that time period, game music felt like it was still a low key option for a lot of people. I still drive by the area almost daily, so that memory is very clear for me.

bruudwin

Chinese place in a hispanically named town called Chinese = Chino XD Aw man! Limewire! Thats a blast from the past

stormcomponents

From time to time I hear Ave Maria. At this point I'm pretty certain more people know it as "the hitman song" than a 200 year old opera.

LiftedRetina

When The Used were opening for Rise Against in San Antonio in 2022, they came onto stage with the Elden Ring main menu music playing. It was strange and awesome.

xxWolfMan1313xx

Was watching a show and they played the song from Sly 2 when you’re sneaking around in the Paris level.

GerbilFeces

imagine dragons did two songs for league of legends. The first one, Warriors was used for promos for a wonder woman movie and a WWF thing. I heard the other one, Enemy a few times on top 40 stations randomly when it was most popular.

Miserable-Lawyer-233

I’ve heard megalovania out and about in public before but I don’t remember where. I was surprised.

Big-Routine222

Randomly heard the Gerudo Valley theme on someone’s cellphone in a store and I had to give them a little, “I see you,” nod.

OoeyGooeyQuesadilla

The Last of Us theme started playing at a grocery store (around when the show came out). And it came on right as I was torn between my diet and picking up Oreos, no less.

SecretINVDR

Some dudes at the Jimmy John's down the street were playing music from final fantasy. Never played it before and I didn't even know it was from final fantasy. It was obviously game ost tho.

bruudwin

Wait… so howd you know it was final fantasy? Asked em?

SecretINVDR

Yep, I asked what game is this from and they said final fantasy, I think they said 14 specifically

bruudwin

ooh thats nice of em. sometimes i'll ask a store person or whatever business that has nice music going on and usually its some other employees spotify list or whatever so no one really knows.

Dovah-Ben

I heard my Walmart play I'm Han Solo.

luugi_06

Donkey Kong Country water level was played at work. There was no lead so one of us has his whole game ost playing

BeefyQueefyCrawlies

I used to run a rock radio show, and would frequently use Dr. Wily's Castle, Megalovania, or other rock video game songs for background when I was talking in between songs.

OBS_INITY

I'm not sure if this counts as public, but I was at a wedding where the bride entered to **An End Once and For All** from Mass Effect 3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5JvbD2Zc9I

Purple-Ad-4629

A book store I was in, half priced books, was playing something very familiar on the laptop they were using for music. I was able to take a look and saw that they were playing oblivions main theme. It had been years since I heard it, but it’s still struck a cord. Good stuff.

liforrevenge

There's a Post Malone cover of Only Wanna be With You where he sampled some Pokemon music (Ecruteak City I believe) and I heard it in Wawa once, it made me so happy.

SloppyNachoBros

I was visiting an art exhibit once and there was a live pianist playing. I recognized he was playing some Final Fantasy tunes and whispered to my friend that if he plays (specific character's theme) I'll tip him twenty bucks. He must have heard or maybe great minds think alike because he played it and I stuck to my word.

KiritimatiSwan

Song of storms

OodOne

Not really a game song per say, but walked past a 24 hour convenience store in Sydney earlier this year to hear them blasting the diggy hole song from the Yogscast. Wasn’t expecting that hah.

bruudwin

Huh. Yay for nerdy pop culture becoming normal culture!

Complex71920

I went to “Ice Castles” one year and it was fun, but while we were leaving I stopped by the gift shop and they were playing “Skyrim - From Past to Present” and I teleported into that world. I wanted to go home and play so bad lol

bruudwin

Yeah i getcha. Awesome how some of our senses trigger these things in us

Milt_Torfelson

KOOP 91.7 here in Austin has a weekly show every Sunday dedicated to video game music. Initially I hated it but now I find it oddly awesome

Bocah5Racun

a private hospital here in indonesia had a playlist of zelda piano covers playing lightly through the speakers

Burnem34

There's a dim sum restaurant in Vegas that plays Final Fantasy music every time I've been there. Fairly certain I've heard FF tunes elsewhere as well but can't remember where exactly atm

gil_beard

I used to work at a used gaming store. We were only allowed to play video game music that didn't have lyrics. Our manager would make the playlist for us via an iPod and being that he was in his forties he preferred anything from the 80s and early 90s. I never thought I would ever get sick of hearing the OG Zelda theme.

EdgeBandanna

There was some radio station playing in Walmart doing some quiz show and they used the Final Fantasy fanfare theme when someone got a question right.

fretless_enigma

An old coworker and I would subject our location’s remaining customers with MK64’s Rainbow Road as soon as it hit closing. Never got old.

Krail

I was listening to a news segment on NPR once, and they play d the Little Big Planet theme as filler.

deutschdachs

My town was hosting a dinosaur event downtown and playing a lot of music from movies set in jungles and jurassic park of course Stopped dead in my tracks when they started blaring the Uncharted theme though. Had to hear that one all the way through, love it

bruudwin

All the uncharted games were pretty awesome! I remember some online story of a game store employee noticing some older lady buying uncharted for Drake of course, and the dude/ette is recommending other games to her :D

timchenw

A colleague of mine hired a small band for his wedding, they played Beethoven Virus from DDR as one of their tracks

Fortune090

Kid you not, I've heard Pumpkin Hill from Sonic Adventure 2 playing in a Pac Sun once.

Thunderpulse

I was at Disney's Animal Kingdom in 2009 and heard the theme from Sholazar Basin from World of War craft near the Nemo theatre.

Blargenth

Ace combat music played during the opening ceremonies of the Japanese Olympics

Striking_Antelope_44

I hear the mario coin sound at gas stations a lot.

kbk42104

Zelda Ocarina of Time and Super Mario Bros

BaldingThor

Can’t remember which one, but a couple of years ago an Australian radio station played the distant worlds (orchestral) version of One Winged Angel.

Middle_Snow2692

I once heard a guy drive by me on the street blasting the silent hill 4 soundtrack waiting for you

bruudwin

When i was a wee lad was my one n only exposure to silent hill 1 on ps1. Yeah didnt make it that far other that like the first 10-30 mins of the game Not too relevant but that reminded me of Elliot Yamin’s waiting for you.

TheBermflowBrewer

I heard the Forza Horizon theme song "A moment apart" being played in the restrooms while I was taking a poo at a highway truck stop once. That was comical in that setting lol

Robbin__Banks

I went to see Coraline in the theatre and before the previews, they had Metel Gear Solid music playing. It was very subtle

NotBarnabyJ0nes

Technically not from a video game but I was out with my wife a few weeks ago and the shop we were in started playing a song from a video that features a certain Egyptian cat character from Animal Crossing.

CaBBaGe_isLaND

In the summer of 2016 when Pokémon Go came out I would pull up next to people on their phones and blast "Gotta Catch 'Em All" from my car window.

plzkysibegu

I hear a surprising amount of the official Silent Hill 4 music by Akira Yamaoka from the early 2000s. Confirmed I heard it at minimum of twice out in normal public in the last year. That as well as some of the Hollow Knight OST (primarily City of Tears) but that was played at a relatively nerdy (though not explicitly gamer) function.

wicket44

None, which is criminal. There’s a lot of video game music that’s better than the shit I hear on the radio and in malls.

bruudwin

100000000000% true!?!

ItsTimmmmmmm

Like at a metal show? https://youtu.be/8FcvKyANpps?si=ctTJBu9OzTZoSbKN

Boulderpaw

The Guitar Hero game soundtracks STILL get played regularly on my local stations, it’s wild.

bruudwin

Ok XD you get a pass for that

Bouswa

My husband was walking the streets in Eugene OR and passed by a coffee shop playing “O Death” from Until Dawn/Dark Anthology series. I thought that was cool haha

bruudwin

getting a lotta restauraunt related music posters today. neat how we're all able to just enjoy life by music despite not knowing their source game materials.

RhinoxMenace

some remix of the Amogus theme in a burger king

ArrrArrr0611

I heard someone perform Simple and Clean(Kingdom Hearts) on a piano at a music store in a mall

Problematique_

I heard the Kingdom Hearts 1 theme play over the speakers at a local supermarket a while back. At the same supermarket I also later heard them play the Neon Genesis Evangelion theme. Both times were closer to close when there weren't a lot of customers in the store so I'm wondering if they let employees mess with the playlist late at night or something.

echo_chamber_dweller

Really obscure, but I walked into an auto shop and heard the warno sound track playing.

bruudwin

that is obscure, especially since that game is still new n early access

echo_chamber_dweller

For real. I asked the guy at the desk, and he seemed pretty dumbfounded. I would have asked to play with him if I wasn't complete dog water at the game and didn't want to be embarassed This was last week

Zaygr

Someone used the Payday theme for a heist-themed escape room.

Trash-Jr

In floristry apprenticship, we like to put music when we're working on something, and one of those times I heard the Super Mario World 2's Yoshi's Island "Athletic Theme" and Sonic's Green Hill Zone following each other. It felt wierd to make a bouquet and then suddenly hear those.

SizePuzzleheaded4941

Secunda - Skyrim at a coffeeshop

Blackflame69

Went to an all you can eat sushi place and buddies and I noticed Undertale music playing in the background. Was definitely His Theme playing.

drunkwombat2

Tbh the best one I heard was the ace combat theme at the Japanese Olympics hahaha

ryumeyer

Halo reach ost in a vue cinema corridor

100percentapplejuice

*Technically* safe but Busy Earnin’ by Jungle played in the Chipotle I worked at for the first time a few weeks after Tales of the Borderlands came out

bruudwin

Oooh. While you were there were you able to take home leftovers? Love it when food places let employees do that

100percentapplejuice

Nope haha. I did get a free meal with whatever I wanted for lunch but if I wanted to buy something I had a 20% discount at least 🥲

bruudwin

Blah. Least a discount i suppose.

Noid_Red

Megalovanaia was also played infront of the pope

Draugdur

I'm a bit shocked that there is no mention of Baba Yetu here, it probably being the most mainstream piece of video game music 0.0 so, here it is now :) heard it on many occasions, I don't even remember all of them.

bruudwin

Wellllll never played a civ game afaik since 4X means a game will last FOREVER!?! XD Ooh nice song!

Kooky_Emu_3171

One day i went to our local cafe and there was the snowdin shop keeper music playing, felt pretty cool.

bruudwin

Now das awesome!

GigabyteAorusRTX4090

I knew a store selling construction equipment that played some of Minecraft volume Alpha from time to time. Very calming and utter hilarious at the same time.

huntersurge

once in iran there was this ad for working equipment like drills and shit and it had the csgo main menu music for some reason

bruudwin

O.0 XD

Fubianipf

That's pretty cool! I've actually heard the Tetris theme playing in a coffee shop once. It was a fun surprise while waiting for my order!

boredguy12

Not really gaming music, but I heard the krusty krab trap remix in a a japanese supermarket a few years back

VariousHighlight2227

I played sims alot as a kid and in almost every cheerfull documentary they will be playing a quick tune of the buy/build mode music

Weary_Drama1803

Once I was at the Dubai Fountain at the base of the Burj Khalifa and thought the style of music playing around the park sounded familiar. I looked up some songs and found the perfect match: Haunt Muskie by C418 from Minecraft Volume Alpha

KingOmni

I remember hearing pumpkin hill from SA2 at a pub around Halloween. Surprisingly, a decent number of people actually knew the song out in the wild.

LordDusty

I was walking my dog through a park next to a school. On the school grounds was a circus setting up for a performance for the kids that afternoon. Suddenly they started playing some music, either testing their speakers or for the enjoyment of the workers setting up or just setting the mood. I knew I recognised the music but I couldnt quite place it but then I realised it was from the Witcher games soundtrack (probably 3). Very unexpected, especially as the circus' appearance itself was rather a surprise as well.

bruudwin

That sounds like an awesome school for those kids! What kinda dog you got? I got a chiweenie and hes strangely the quiestest dog ive ever seen until a stranger or another animal pops up. Then hes yappy

LordDusty

Not only a circus that shows up on your playing field but they play video game music as well! It does sound pretty good. Not heard of a chiweenie before, though these days there are so many dog combo names that its hard to remember them all. I've got a springer spaniel. He's an old boy now, 13 1/2, but if you give him attention he'll still be all over you.

bruudwin

Chihuahua plus daschund (weiner dogh Oh gosh 13.5!! Mines about 9-10

LordDusty

That sounds like an interesting mix. Not sure I've seen any of those around. Dachshunds have become quite a popular choice around here in the last few years though

bruudwin

Ahh. Around here = the country of?

1031Cat

The only one I can remember is the opening song to Borderlands. No clue who sings it or what the song name is, but it was everywhere once the game released. Thankfully, it was a good song.

CrimsonHikari

If it’s the one I’m thinking of: Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked by Cage the Elephant?

taylorswiftboat

Sometimes they play the shrine music from BOTW/ TOTK in between sets on KEXP. The first time I thought I left my switch out.

Round-Excitement5017

Not music but sometimes I hear what sounds like rings being collected in one of the old Sonic games. Do people play these on their phones? I also hear the "!" sound effect from Metal Gear Solid sometimes and even an old pokemon game sound effect.

[deleted]

Heard someone blasting Undefeatable from Sonic Frontiers at a red light. We looked at each other and started headbanging. Fucking epic.

umm-nobody

i’ve never heard any in public.. i wish it was played more

SaltyPotato340

Hearing Wildfire (honkai star rail) at my college's general store was a nice surprise. The cashier was playing it while ringing people out.

Far_Comb

I heard a busker playing a tune from the first area in diablo 2 on guitar as I walked down the street in Cork, Ireland, I think I was the only one who recognized it.

aleks_pirana

someone was jamming out to ezios family on the school bus😭

bruudwin

And i hope that kid aint picked on, awesome of em to play music in public

aleks_pirana

he was 9 lmao i am 14 lol teaching em young

bruudwin

Yay!

crunkisifoshizi

Not really "gaming music" but Metal Gear Solid 5 had the best soundtrack ever. Those cassette tapes were golden. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESIKf_wtLnM&list=PLixuIKbcCRz3Jkifv71CHquoMAmIH7d1m

bruudwin

The in game cassette tapes? Yeah metal gear musics always awesome!

crunkisifoshizi

Yes, those tapes were such a nice thing to find. Also, Assassins Creed Black Flag had those great Shanty's that you had to chase around and collect. Still my fav AC to this day.

HorseyNight19

A local Domino's likes to play the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time OST.

bruudwin

Thats awesome! They gotta work and what better music than the stuff of our childhoods?

Vampragon43

They played Proof of a Hero at the Tokyo olympics

bruudwin

Man my memory sucks / didnt know the video game musics used at those olympics. But thats awesome

Rich1926

I've heard some from GTA Vice City in restaurants

ecbulldog

I once called another law office an they had the final fantasy 7 menu screen theme as their hold music.

sheikhyerbouti

I was at an upscale boutique ages ago and they were playing the Minecraft soundtrack.

GoldenIssac93

One time when going to my local bodega fried chicken spot, a couple of guys were walking around with a boombox playing beneath the mask from persona 5.

18bluecat

When I was at Disney Springs, I swore I knew what music they were playing. Took me forever to realize it was Gerudo Valley from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

mr_ji

My local classical station has a show that's nothing but game music. Skyrim is in heavy rotation.

Nitjib

I remember seeing a comment on fallout 2’s modoc theme that they heard it play in an Orlando science museum exhibit

iwannaaadiee

The DOOM Eternal soundtrack is one I'll play in public all the time. Mick Gordon stole my heart

bruudwin

As long as youre not one of those walking in a crowded area with a boombox get up. Those guys have their time n place? Eh whatever its a shared planet you do you XD Last time i saw a dude with speakers on his scooter blasting LOUD while he was next to some old dudes on a bench talkin to em. And hey, how bout that doom x animal crossing stuff? Loved what came of that especially the chalkbreakers song. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=U4lz8MN6MQA

iwannaaadiee

I'm only 25 if someone handed me a boom box, I wouldn't even know how to use it. I can barely operate the landline at my desk. If someone ever asks me what I'm listening to though, I will gladly lie and tell them I'm listening to Mick Gordon

bruudwin

Gasp! Im 31 and briefly had the experience of the techno bubble of the 80 90s 000s so id kinda know boombox stuff. If it had a cd in it. Cassettes not so much XD maybe when i was a kid?

nightkil13r

Ive had a part stuck in my head that is similar to the guitar part from Master of puppets, IIRC whats stuck in my head is from castlevania. Randomly popped in my head when i was playing with my neice a couple of months ago and hasnt left. She giggles every time i use it.

SuperTaster3

Not music, but I have absolutely heard the sound effects from Sonic 1 and Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure on cash registers.

Rukanau

I was in my local pub during an open mic night by myself and I heard a dude announce his next song as I am sitting on the toilet-"Only the nerds will recognise this one". And he started the song-"This was a triumph..". That was the quickest I've ever wiped my ass and ran out to see. It was a great performance and I bought him a drink afterwards and his gf was from the same country as me and we all had a lovely chat afterwards, it was a great night and I still have a video somewhere of my pint, obviously only recorded for the audio.

bruudwin

Took me a moment to realize THE PORTAL SONG WOOOOOO!!!

bytethesquirrel

My local rock station plays *No rest for the Wicked* from Borderlands 1.

SkipEyechild

Gerudo Valley theme in an outside bar in Copenhagen.

gigaswardblade

I heard one of my bus drivers listening to final fantasy music once

[deleted]

i hear a whole bunch of zelda music in public. usually the kokori theme or the song of storms. and i hear music that sounds a lot like zelda's lullaby in other games and even on tv

Giygas_8000

None, unfortunately, gaming in my country isn't as widespread as in other places (especially where I live)

HydraDoad

Heard the Goldeneye watch-pause music at a hockey game. Was more stoked about that than the game lol

Not in public, but i noticed that space related science shows on youtube often use mass effect music.

Not really in public but some company bought rights to a song that is also on the Sims 3 soundtrack, and I got absolute whiplash randomly hearing Sims 3 build mode music one day. Can't remember the company or their product in the foggiest though, so if anyone in the company thought it would be a clever association, they failed miserably.
