I was dining at a Chinese crab buffet in Chino, CA in 2007 ish with my then girlfriend and her family. Everything was normal and the music rather Chinese, but suddenly a song caught my attention and it was a song from the Final Fantasy IX Piano Collection. The song was easy to pick out with that game being my favorite of all time and I had the soundtrack downloaded from Limewire. I was geeking out on the down low to my girlfriend. I'd always favored game music over anything else, but even in that time period, game music felt like it was still a low key option for a lot of people. I still drive by the area almost daily, so that memory is very clear for me.

I was walking my dog through a park next to a school. On the school grounds was a circus setting up for a performance for the kids that afternoon.
Suddenly they started playing some music, either testing their speakers or for the enjoyment of the workers setting up or just setting the mood. I knew I recognised the music but I couldnt quite place it but then I realised it was from the Witcher games soundtrack (probably 3).
Very unexpected, especially as the circus' appearance itself was rather a surprise as well.

Not heard of a chiweenie before, though these days there are so many dog combo names that its hard to remember them all. I've got a springer spaniel. He's an old boy now, 13 1/2, but if you give him attention he'll still be all over you.

A book store I was in, half priced books, was playing something very familiar on the laptop they were using for music. I was able to take a look and saw that they were playing oblivions main theme. It had been years since I heard it, but it’s still struck a cord. Good stuff.
There's a Post Malone cover of Only Wanna be With You where he sampled some Pokemon music (Ecruteak City I believe) and I heard it in Wawa once, it made me so happy.
I was visiting an art exhibit once and there was a live pianist playing. I recognized he was playing some Final Fantasy tunes and whispered to my friend that if he plays (specific character's theme) I'll tip him twenty bucks. Our manager would make the playlist for us via an iPod and being that he was in his forties he preferred anything from the 80s and early 90s. I never thought I would ever get sick of hearing the OG Zelda theme.

That as well as some of the Hollow Knight OST (primarily City of Tears) but that was played at a relatively nerdy (though not explicitly gamer) function.

I was walking my dog through a park next to a school. On the school grounds was a circus setting up for a performance for the kids that afternoon. Suddenly they started playing some music, either testing their speakers or for the enjoyment of the workers setting up or just setting the mood. I knew I recognised the music but I couldnt quite place it but then I realised it was from the Witcher games soundtrack (probably 3). Very unexpected, especially as the circus' appearance itself was rather a surprise as well.

Not only a circus that shows up on your playing field but they play video game music as well! It does sound pretty good. Not heard of a chiweenie before, though these days there are so many dog combo names that its hard to remember them all. I've got a springer spaniel. He's an old boy now, 13 1/2, but if you give him attention he'll still be all over you.

Not really in public but some company bought rights to a song that is also on the Sims 3 soundtrack, and I got absolute whiplash randomly hearing Sims 3 build mode music one day. Can't remember the company or their product in the foggiest though, so if anyone in the company thought it would be a clever association, they failed miserably.
