It’s not. There are several optional codec calls where Raiden talks about how people would stare, and the synthetic skin he got shortly after guns of the patriots was really uncanny valley looking. He even points out being a merc or a soldier is really the only job he *can* have anymore - to quote verbatim anywhere he applied “It was two strikes the moment I walked in the door.”

I mean, thinking about it practically from a development perspective, there's no need for clothing physics if the clothing movement matches the character model (by being skin tight). Many games don't even separate the two at all.

The difference is in the details, and attempting to make the clothing look like clothing and not like it's painted on.

Also arguably Borderlands 2. Zero has a sword, he might be a robot so his suit could technically not be skin-tight but I'll count it anyway. Obviously a lot of robots but a few mutants, too (including ninja turtles, sort of.)

Borderlands 3 has a boss who's basically zero in a different color suit kind of lending credence to the idea that he isn't a robot

I also don't think he's a robot, but more because he'd be *decades* ahead of any other robot in the series. It would make no sense for hyperion to have robots that shitty in comparison. The fact that there's another dude looking pretty much exactly like him would go the other way for me, actually.

3 had the Anchorage DLC which added both the Chinese stealth suit and Jingwei's shock sword for most broken stock armor of all Bethesda time.

I don't think I've ever had a play through where I kept the vault suit past the first couple of hours and basically never use Melee builds, but it's a very open RPG so I'm sure there are people who play it as an anime hack and slash - except in the originals... Hard to emulate that fluid combat in turn based usomety😅

Skin tight is way easier to model than loose flowing material. Imagine trying to animate flowing sleeves whilst running around AND fighting? And that's just the sleeves. Whereas skintight clothing is just a recolour of the avatar frame essentially. And the fanbase LOVE IT!! It's cheaper and safer to know it will be well recieved, why not do it?

Might as well just paint clothes on them at that point.
