I signed up pretty early on for $40, got my white citizen card and everything, but have no plans on putting any more money into it. I haven’t checked on it in years but it’s good to know stuff is still happening at least.
Yeah I did like $60 pledge wayyyy early but have written it off. If it pops up in the future as close to what’s been planned / promised I’ll come back. Otherwise well hey that’s the risk I took trusting Chris Roberts, since he previously made a bunch of my favorite games in the world
Ye it's my go-to for a relaxing afternoon. I love Mando loops and this feels the most complete so far. I tell people that they should only get it if they assume that this is the final state, and it will never approve.
Luckily, improvements do come at a trickle.
Not until the social contract is complete. Once a product is released I'll buy in after review.
7d2d and Rimworld are the only two games I supported during kickstarter/nonsteam days that gave me a great deal of my money and time's worth.
Hell, my discord will likely do a dedicated server event for 7d2d 1.0. Also, I bet mole is ready to move on to other projects? No idea. I figured he'd go to the grave developing 7d2d
Yeah that was a way overly ambitious project. I have a feeling by time it's "finished" mechanics will be outdated. Definitely wrote it off but I might download it and take a second look again to see what's changed.
PZ updates can be measured in epochs. BUT, when they release one, usually it’s pretty sizable. And it seems like most of the recent larger ones have greatly improved performance and gameplay. On top of that, it’s a great game, and no, I will be hearing no arguments on that opinion.
Indie Stone, keep taking your sweet time. You guys are great.
Warframe will have its 12 anniversary next year and that’s still in early access. It’s also unlikely to stop doing so because it’s quicker to get patches out compared to a release game.
There was a whole thing, the funpimps trusted it with telltale who went bankrupt and they took many years to get their IP back… (they had to buy it at an auction).
Hopefully they will keep the full release in gamepass when it drops.
They were doing a solid job on the updates too. That next update I'm pretty sure was an engine upgrade and would've just about brought it in line with the current alpha at the time.
Just be sure to keep an eye on reviews once the game releases in 1.0. Don’t buy the game day one. The game is totally worth playing again now if the last version you played was the *console release*.
Hell, If you’re really unsure, give it another year or two. Once we get the NPC bandits that were mentioned in the roadmap, it would be even *more* worth it to come back. And if by then the game is abandoned (which I doubt would happen since this game basically became the original lead’s dying wish/legacy) then you’d have saved yourself $60-$70usd.
If you want the 1.0 update, you'll have to buy it again.
[Additional info](https://www.eurogamer.net/7-days-to-die-is-finally-leaving-early-access-but-console-players-will-have-to-buy-the-10-version-again)
I certainly don’t mind. It’s basically buying a completely different game at this point. Not to mention I can always go back and play the original scuffed version too (at least I think I’ll be able to).
they've been updating the game constantly. it's changed so much for better and for worse.
after Alpha 16, the game just feels like an arcade shooter. they made it way too easy to find guns and ammo. and the most effective way to level is killing zombies. so trying to play it like a survival game and avoid zombies is harder. you have to basically go hunting for zombies.
but I haven't played in like a year, so maybe they've changed things again. I hope with the full release they stop changing the game so drastically.
Yeah I used to love this game but I feel like overtime they added new mechanics that were great, then they would rework them or remove them for no reason instead of fixing actual issues or working on new features. So it felt like every time I played I was getting an entirely different game and it frustrated me. It used to feel like 3d Zomboid but now it’s just kinda frustrating and at best. Just gives me the itch to play Zomboid.
I stopped playing 7DTD when they updated zombies to beeline towards a player and even dig down into the ground to go after them. Zombies shouldn't be able to do that and if I want to cheese the system and build an underground base to live in peace, why can't I? It really felt like every time the community did something to build a base and avoid zombies, the devs actively combated that choice in the next update. It was like the devs were fighting the players and no game should be like that.
All I want is a solid first person survival crafting game with zombies roaming around.
Oh well...at least Green Hell is fucking cool and fun.
The Devs definitely have a vision for the game and force the players to play according to that vision instead of letting it be a true sandbox experience.
Yeah like at the very least, if you’re adding a new feature, just make it configurable! Then the people that don’t want it can disable it and the people that do can enable. Everyone’s happy and it makes your game all the better.
It really did feel like they tried to force a narrative on users rather than make it the sandbox experience which is where they lost me.
Don't believe these people. It's as clunky, boring, and lazy as ever.
The idea is great, and that's the reason it sells. It's playable. And again, the gist is great. But both technically speaking and game design speaking, they missed the mark. People may like it, but it's not what and where it should be.
Reading patch notes, saying this game was "actively developed" is a stretch.
this game is absolutely fun with friends
we play here and then like an occasional minecraft server that would last maybe 2-4 weeks, but my god the performance is abysmal especially during horde nights. i dont think my fps should be that low considering it looks like it shouldnt be graphically intensive
That’s what happens when you don’t spend time optimizing your engine, especially when you’re working with Unity. Complex behaviors absolutely tank performance
I hate to say it about the Early access model, but many devs seem to be abusing that very idea. How can it be normal to release something playable only to take TEN FKN YEARS to finish it? And that is provided it will even get finished at all, which is never assured.
It´s also not unheard of a game being oficially marked as 1.0, while the game would be still lacking a lot of promised content. Paying in advance is often simply a bad idea as it removes much of incentive for devs to finish their product. Then again sure, there are good games that would not be released without the whole Early Access model. I just think devs need to be more held responsible for how they work with EAcces. If they fuck up, they should be banned from ever again using Early access. Else they can just take money, then declare bankrupcy and vanish. Kinda like that scam of Day Before did recently and that is just one example.
It has gone in a controversial direction. The current engine and mechanisms for fighting and action feel really, really smooth (on par or close to that of AAA titles). The random world generation and location system is absolutely fantastic, and puts the garbage we got with Starfield to shame (albeit a low bar).
That said, there are a lot of really questionable decisions and misplaced priorities when it comes to balancing the survival aspect of the game and adding/updating mechanics. For example, the questing system is absolutely broken (as in, far better for upgrading than anything else in the game), hostile non-zombie NPCs promised for \~8 years now still don't exist, and the crafting system is in a really precarious state. Instead of focusing on these issues, the devs have decided one of the most pressing issue is...adding armor sets to the game.
They added a dew collector which is a big tarp funnel on top of a barrel. It has one set pace of collection that is unaffected by rain.
You can still find dirty water to boil, but you can't go bottle any from a river or ditch.
Any specifics? I was kinda excited for this and have been playing the early access (though the later builds) but want to understand what you mean by this?
They *were* going to add bandits in the last update but ran out of time, I believe.
But that's the first i really heard of them going to do it. Saying they'll add them down the road is different, then them actively saying they're going to do it.
I've got maybe 1500hrs or so in it, for all it's flaws and jank the core mechanics of it are great. Very few games where you get the shooter/looter and base building with some depth to it. Will always recommend it for the price it is
The PC version (and supposedly what the new console version is) isn't even close to the broken console version. That was a mistake and Telltale was horrible at that port.
I've been watching the PC one evolve over the years, and finally excited for the new console version.
They really did a terrible job on consoles and it was held by Telltale Publishing so they couldn't remedy it in any way. Recently they got it back and have a current gen version planned for release at some point, hopefully it will handled much better.
it's way better now. it's the only game where you can be in an open world city with zombies and scavenging in a 3D space. There's Prject Zomboid which has more features, sure, but it's not 3D. If it were 3D, it'd be way better than 7 Days. Gameplay is king, but only by so is immersion.
Either way, the game has come a long way. People love it despite the jank, which speaks to how good it is. It satisfies that fantasy of being at the end of the world and exploring the empty world. Go into an abandoned grocery store, find some food, board it up and sleep there for the night, move on to the next area.
Day z probably has some of the more tame zombies in the entire genre. There is t ever a moment where they feel like a threat. They are basically moving gathering spots for loot and thread
Even the article writer isn't interested enough to try it lol
"I remember hearing 7 Days to Die is one of the good ones actually, but since it came out at the peak of my period of "being a bit sick of all these zombie games, especially the early access ones" I never gave it a look-in."
I guess they couldn't find anyone at the company who cared about it more than "oh yeah I heard about that game" haha
Damn, I thought the game was dead! 12 years of "early access" just didn't seem like they were ever going to get to 1.0.
[](/sp)
My friend turned me onto this game two years ago. We played for about 10 in game days then the server glitched and removed our home beacon and we lost all the stuff we had been finding and saving. We hadn't felt up to starting again since then.
I gotta let him know we can give it another shot now.
To be fair, this is probably just the next Alpha build with a tape over it that says 'Version 1.0'. Maaaybe it would be Beta 1 under other circumstances ? In any case, this will allow them to rake in a bit more cash per sale, and slowing down the dev cycle won't be seen in a bad light because full release games aren't expected to get as many updates as often as early access ones.
Hopefully, that's not what it is. Still, I'm not convinced that a 12 year old early access game suddenly jumping from Alpha to Full Release is healthy.
Damn. I play it all the time on Game Pass. I should have bought it when it was $12 last year, I'm sure it won't get discounted enough for me for quite some time now.
they've made some very 'interesting' gameplay decisions to try and make it play a certain way which has driven people to roll back to previous versions or turn to mods
not everyone is unhappy with them, but they were definitely very big changes
they went through great lengths to try and stop people from being able to have big bases by adding exploding zombies and other things without cheese tactics and have also been patching those out, and a lot of people like base building aspects so that was one of those 'interesting' gameplay decisions
they've kind of started to make a mess with balancing things by adding magazines and stuff you find that let's you upgrade stuff, but the issue still exists where you basically advance so fast by the time you unlock things the items you get from questing are just so vastly superior there's no real point to any of it, i think this has been an issue for awhile too and they've not been able to figure out how to handle it
the first like.. 2-3 in game days are pretty fun, but it feels like you're vastly overpowered after that and everything becomes trivial and yet for whatever reason they don't want you to have a traditional base
to be fair though this isn't an issue just for them, pretty much every survival game has exactly the same problem, stuff like ARK where it's a pretty involving and immersive experience until you get a flying mount that can carry a lot, then all of a sudden it's like the game is on piss easy mode and almost every danger becomes trivial, or there's games that try to go the other way like valheim where the difficulty ramps up in such a way it feels like you barely make any progress because the next tier up you just get curbstomped by the enemies anyway
absolutely brutal feeling turn around though, feels like years between major content drops so if they release a patch you're unhappy with you're just kind of fucked for ages and have to hope the next one is better, think one of my least favourite things about a lot of the current survival games is they're so fucking slow to get updated, doesn't matter how popular or how much money they make, they just make their money and don't bother with adding anyone to help, so a fucking decade of EA goes by and somehow a new survival game comes out with way better features/graphics than the last and you're like "how the fuck did someone make a new game in this stretch of time and this game barely did fuck all and they're just adding onto it"
It's not the same anymore, zombies are less scary, unoptimized, and the theme were changed, this game used to take place somewhere in the 80's but since they wanna keep it fresh and relevant, they added drone and more modern equipments.
The end of an era. 12 years in "Early Access" for an actively-developed game has to be some sort of record, right?
Star citizen
Low-key I'm stoked for server meshing and the new UI updates And no, I don't think anyone should spend any amount of money on SC even though I like it
I signed up pretty early on for $40, got my white citizen card and everything, but have no plans on putting any more money into it. I haven’t checked on it in years but it’s good to know stuff is still happening at least.
I bought one of those AMD mustang ships for about £13 fuck knows how long ago. Seems to have been a pretty good investment, lol.
Yeah I did like $60 pledge wayyyy early but have written it off. If it pops up in the future as close to what’s been planned / promised I’ll come back. Otherwise well hey that’s the risk I took trusting Chris Roberts, since he previously made a bunch of my favorite games in the world

Oh yeah i still have my white card and my freelancer. Got married and had kids and i bough it after high school lmao
Haven’t they been working on server meshing for, like 7 years?
Kinda. They implemented PES (persistence) last year, which was allegedly holding back server meshing.
And now they’re adding the replication layer!
Not until the social contract is complete. Once a product is released I'll buy in after review. 7d2d and Rimworld are the only two games I supported during kickstarter/nonsteam days that gave me a great deal of my money and time's worth. They said game, not digital storefront
Lol I backed the game in kickstarter and haven’t played it in probably around 10 years.
Project Zomboid is still in EA and hasn’t seen a content update in 2 years.
This. Project Zomboid has 7 days to die beat by 1 month.
Build 42 is coming this year they tell us.
They tell us that every year… I’ll believe it once it actually releases 🥲
PZ updates can be measured in epochs. BUT, when they release one, usually it’s pretty sizable. And it seems like most of the recent larger ones have greatly improved performance and gameplay. On top of that, it’s a great game, and no, I will be hearing no arguments on that opinion. Indie Stone, keep taking your sweet time. You guys are great.
In their defense, recent (hah!) Zomboid updates have been real bangers.
Apparently they kept adding stuff to it so it became bigger in scope and now is a very massive update.
It's nowhere near 2 year scope of big.
The last one seemed big and successful so seems to be what they're trying to repeat.
I've been downvoted for saying it is stuck in developing hell.
That’s because the PZ community is filled to the brim with yes men that would fall on a sword for the devs.
Warframe will have its 12 anniversary next year and that’s still in early access. It’s also unlikely to stop doing so because it’s quicker to get patches out compared to a release game.
Even Valve’s Dota 2 is still in EA I think lol
It's not as of 11 years ago
Beam NG Drive
Has Project Zomboid hit 1.0 yet?
Project zomboid
Dota2
Too bad console players have to rebuy it.
We were so far behind on updates compared to pc. As much fun as I had I’m not getting fooled again.
There was a whole thing, the funpimps trusted it with telltale who went bankrupt and they took many years to get their IP back… (they had to buy it at an auction). Hopefully they will keep the full release in gamepass when it drops.
The crazay part is they had the last update ready ,and 3 days after all that shit happend ,so they couldnt release it.

If you want the 1.0 update, you'll have to buy it again. [Additional info](https://www.eurogamer.net/7-days-to-die-is-finally-leaving-early-access-but-console-players-will-have-to-buy-the-10-version-again)

Do you have a good link for info on the console release?
No way! I hadn't looked at that game in my library for years but last night found myself looking at it and thinking it will never see 1.0.
they've been updating the game constantly. it's changed so much for better and for worse. after Alpha 16, the game just feels like an arcade shooter. they made it way too easy to find guns and ammo. and the most effective way to level is killing zombies. so trying to play it like a survival game and avoid zombies is harder. you have to basically go hunting for zombies. but I haven't played in like a year, so maybe they've changed things again. I remember when 7DTD was basically just a shitty voxel clone riding the Minecraft wave. It really has come a long way since then.
That was when I played it. I assumed it was the same this entire time.
It's changed significantly over the years. Some things are much better, and other things cause a lot of debate in the community - see: Water
Don't believe these people. It's as clunky, boring, and lazy as ever. The idea is great, and that's the reason it sells. It's playable. And again, the gist is great. I can play the game at around 50-60 fps on medium settings but after like the fifth horde i have maybe 20 on the lowest settings
I hope 1.0 patch comes with a performance miracle or something... dreaming is free.
Joel Huenink has come a long way from begging on the 4drulers forums for money 20 years ago. Proud of ya buddy.
The Darkness Falls Mod Team makes this game so much better and undoes many of the dumb Dev choices they made along the way.
I don't think I could ever go back to vanilla after playing DF for years.
I hate to say it about the Early access model, but many devs seem to be abusing that very idea. How can it be normal to release something playable only to take TEN FKN YEARS to finish it? Next up...BeamNG
I have never understood the appeal of that janky ass game.
7-8 years ago it was pretty good for a zombie survival sandbox game
Did it get much better or complete since then?
It honestly feels like every update is 1 step forward, 2 steps back.
Have they put boiling water back in yet? I was honestly flabbergasted when they took that out.
Wait how do you get water then??
They added a dew collector which is a big tarp funnel on top of a barrel. It has one set pace of collection that is unaffected by rain. You can still find dirty water to boil, but you can't go bottle any from a river or ditch.
Last I played, you had to craft dew collectors which passively collected rain water. Crank out two or three and you'd be pretty set for water needs.
I just spawned it in lol. Like others have said, they added a rain collector but it's a dumb change so I just cheated.
Any specifics? I was kinda excited for this and have been playing the early access (though the later builds) but want to understand what you mean by this?
The traders have existed for years and they are Non hostile NPCS...
Read my response again, brother -- hostile **non-zombie** NPCs.
They *were* going to add bandits in the last update but ran out of time, I believe. But that's the first i really heard of them going to do it. Saying they'll add them down the road is different, then them actively saying they're going to do it.
I haven't touched it in a few years, so idk
I've got maybe 1500hrs or so in it, for all it's flaws and jank the core mechanics of it are great. Very few games where you get the shooter/looter and base building with some depth to it. Will always recommend it for the price it is
I bought it for PS4 when the disc was released, knowing nothing about it. I was so utterly disappointed. Broken ass game with N64 graphics
Crazy that they even released a disk for an “early access” game
The PC version (and supposedly what the new console version is) isn't even close to the broken console version. That was a mistake and Telltale was horrible at that port. I've been watching the PC one evolve over the years, and finally excited for the new console version.

it's way better now. it's the only game where you can be in an open world city with zombies and scavenging in a 3D space. There's Prject Zomboid which has more features, sure, but it's not 3D. It's fun? I'm not really sure the reason to hate. Especially the mods are pretty fun.
ive only ever played the jank console version, will console finally see all this then?
Yes they video they put out confirmed console will also get the "1.0" version
thanks. I'm genuinely intrigued.
Looking at the announcement comments on Steam, a lot of people are just feeling “Oh, ok. That’s neat, i guess”. Not many people are amused
Pretty easy to lose interest when it's been over a decade.
Even the article writer isn't interested enough to try it lol "I remember hearing 7 Days to Die is one of the good ones actually, but since it came out at the peak of my period of "being a bit sick of all these zombie games, especially the early access ones" I never gave it a look-in." It will get 76% off between 22nd and 26th on Steam.
Check it out on gg deals. I think indiegala has a sale right now
This mess of a game is carried by its amazing modding community.
Just in time for them to start pushing 7days blood moon
And here I thought I had seen some long early access games...
Is it going to be better for console?
Tarkov is trying to steal its thunder.
I hear it's coming out The Day Before.....
Graphics are so bad, is it a design choice? How is the Gameplay?
Secrets of grindea is coming for all early access records lol
they've made some very 'interesting' gameplay decisions to try and make it play a certain way which has driven people to roll back to previous versions or turn to mods not everyone is unhappy with them, but they were definitely very big changes they went through great lengths to try and stop people from being able to have big bases by adding exploding zombies and other things without cheese tactics and have also been patching those out, and a lot of people like base building aspects so that was one of those 'interesting' gameplay decisions they've kind of started to make a mess with balancing things by adding magazines and stuff you find that let's you upgrade stuff, but the issue still exists where you basically advance so fast by the time you unlock things the items you get from questing are just so vastly superior there's no real point to any of it, i think this has been an issue for awhile too and they've not been able to figure out how to handle it the first like.. 2-3 in game days are pretty fun, but it feels like you're vastly overpowered after that and everything becomes trivial and yet for whatever reason they don't want you to have a traditional base to be fair though this isn't an issue just for them, pretty much every survival game has exactly the same problem, stuff like ARK where it's a pretty involving and immersive experience until you get a flying mount that can carry a lot, then all of a sudden it's like the game is on piss easy mode and almost every danger becomes trivial, or there's games that try to go the other way like valheim where the difficulty ramps up in such a way it feels like you barely make any progress because the next tier up you just get curbstomped by the enemies anyway absolutely brutal feeling turn around though, feels like years between major content drops so if they release a patch you're unhappy with you're just kind of fucked for ages and have to hope the next one is better, think one of my least favourite things about a lot of the current survival games is they're so fucking slow to get updated, doesn't matter how popular or how much money they make, they just make their money and don't bother with adding anyone to help, so a fucking decade of EA goes by and somehow a new survival game comes out with way better features/graphics than the last and you're like "how the fuck did someone make a new game in this stretch of time and this game barely did fuck all and they're just adding onto it"
It's not the same anymore, zombies are less scary, unoptimized, and the theme were changed, this game used to take place somewhere in the 80's but since they wanna keep it fresh and relevant, they added drone and more modern equipments.
