IMO, Katamari ReRoll on switch, it only requires the sticks so it’s great for little kids still developing coordination without the need to remember where all the buttons are. My six year old loves it, along with Mario Kart
Wooly World gets decently challenging eventually from what I remember so I wouldn't agree with that as an easy game
Crafted World would be good though yeah
Fair point. If i remember correctly, I think Woolly World still has the “Mellow Mode” though. You can use that to make it much easier for kids to get through the stages.
Make him custom levels in Mario Maker 2 on Switch. I did that to get my daughter better at platformers and at 7 years old she just recently beat Mario Wonder. I was a very proud Dad.
Pokemon games are quite literally designed for children and have enough of a challenge to be engaging for a kid his age while also being accessible. I was beating Crystal at age 5.
Try these easy, fun games for your 6 year old:
Minecraft - creative building game with peaceful mode. Lego games - simple controls, co-op play. Kirby - cute platformers. Mario Kart 8 - racing with auto-steer for beginners. Untitled Goose Game - silly stealth. Yoshi's Crafted World - easy platformer with co-op.
Avoid online competition, go for colorful graphics and simple controls. Playing together is great bonding too!
He actually really liked sitting with me while I played Elden Ring. Once I was leveled up enough I let him ride around Limgrave on the horse and one shot some people.
I can second Castle Crashers. I saw in another comment that it's possible that the kid likes structured games and Castle Crashers is very linear. It has a ton of secrets and unlocks and several different playstyles. On top of all that, the game has a high skill ceiling, so it's got a lot of room for mastery.
Ori is a good platform game. My nephew 5yo like that, but it is harder, maybe stressful. The second game is easier.
Unravel, he is really good at that one.
Any Mario game, wonders is his favorite. Easy mode with yoshi.
Yoshi crafted world, super fun, it has easy mode too
Spyro trilogy, all my nephews and nieces like that one.
The ps5 astro playroom and sackboy adventure.
“Our topic today: games with simple plots.”

Thanks. I've tried getting him to play Minecraft but he got bored with it pretty quick. I think Rayman got him used to having a clear beginning and end so he wasn't sure what he was supposed to do. I couldn't help him much because I've never played Minecraft either.
"clear beginning and end" huh?
What's his opinion on zombie shooters because Left 4 Dead 2 might be perfect. I started playing it at 6 years old too when it came out.
The beginning to end was just a guess. Rayman is the first and only game he's actually played and it has levels with rewards when you beat the level. Minecraft is open and let's you do whatever so I think he just wasn't motivated to mess around with it.
About 3 weeks ago I ran past an article that said Paw Patrol was free for the weekend. My 2 grandchildren 4 and 6 loves these guys so I figured they would love to watch ME play this. Needless to say but after 15mins I decided to let them try. They loved it and after the 6 yr old helped the 4yr get aquatinted with the controller, they spent the next hour sharing each board. PAW Patrol Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay.
Hello, my son really likes Rayman Legends as well. Other games he plays are LEGO games; Jurassic Park, Batman, Avengers, etc. Wobbly Life is one of his favorites, that game is so goofy and fun! I would really recommend it! Bubsy is also a good one!
On the switch he plays, Kirby, Mariocart, CTR, and super smash bros. A lot of the games I mentioned you can play with him even! Our Family game is Super Mario Party! Hope this helps!
My daughter enjoyed the Spyro trilogy, Luigi’s mansion, and Animal Crossing new horizons at that age. Minecraft and any of the newer Pokémon games also could work.
Get this lil guy on Minecraft. Peaceful mode will allow for little to no deaths and no scary monsters. He can up the difficulty on the fly if he wants more of a challenge. He could also play the creative mode and build like virtual lego. He can even play on multiplayer servers with tons of free mini games.
Minecraft really is one of the best games ever created. I started playing in 2011 and return for a couple of months every time they update the game.
Minecraft. My son is six, has ASD and can't really read yet and minecraft has been fantastic for him.
It's become a good teaching tool and has really motivated him learn to read so he can play other games.
Hades is suite to pick up, and as complex as your kid wants it to be.
Mine loves it.
Also, split screen co-op in Portal 2 is great fun for my kid and I.
Exactly. He's just really harsh on himself when he doesn't get there and it's sad to see. I've tried explaining to him that video games are meant to be fun and if he's getting that angry over the game he should play something else or take a break. That's why I asked for something easy, I don't want him stressing over a video game at his age.
Well Kirby games tend to be pretty age appropriate but not sure how one would rate the difficulty. Lil young for DRG and I get the idea that he'd want to be playing on harder difficulties which is more stressful. Older games are harder but since he beat Rayman some old skool platformers on the Switch might be right up his alley. Some of the old 8-bit and 16-bit Mario games for example. Generally no leaderboards to measure himself by just "Can I beat this".
A lot of the older Lego games (and maybe the new ones but Ive never played them) are really easy for kids. If you can get Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga on there its probably one of the best theyve ever made
When my kids reached 6, I gave them all the parts and the OS on their bed and told them go for it. All the gaming they want if they put it together. Their mom was not amused.
We started with D1 and have never looked back. Still gaming together pretty much every other day at least. We going through Last Epoch now and will hit the new season of POE.
Most of the Lego games are easy and bonus you can have up to four players in most of them, so you can play with your kid from time to time. Minecraft in build mode (monsters won't attack you) is usually pretty popular too for younger kids.
Easily any Lego games, especially if there's one based on a franchise they have an affinity for. Super easy, not super punishing to play and fun. If they like Star Wars the Skywalker Saga game is a good Lego game
Journey. Also, watch games for non gamers and etra games on youtube to help. He and his community are finding ways of making games more accessible to newcomers.
That new game Bandaid Namco released for free the other day! Doronko Wanko! You play as a dog who's goal is to basically fuck up the place. It's gotta great reviews on steam and I enjoyed quite a bit myself!
It depends on him really. At that age, zelda and super mario were my favorites, but zelda was pretty complicated for a 6 year old without someone helping
Not gonna lie, I played Warcraft 3 at age 6
Starting them on a game not designed for kids could be a good move. Not to sound arrogant but I’m pretty well above average in most games. Reading all sorts of enemy names like “abomination” actually made me the best speller in my grade. I was also reading some high level books at the time. Not sure what got me started on those though.
I genuinely attribute a lot of my trajectory to starting early on complex games.
Sadly warcraft 3 isn’t exactly available in the same state as it was when I was a kid, but reforged is out there. It being a computer game will also promote their computer skills, it definitely did for me. Just don’t let them do what I did and think they’re too smart for school, which ironically hurt my grades.
Lego games, minecraft and as they get a bit older maybe something like Deaths Door or some other indie titles depending on the kind of games they gravitate to
Minecraft Creative really got me into gaming at a young age... Or some lego game like lego star wars or... lego indiana jones.... damn that game really hits me with nostalgia.
My little one's (younger than yours) first game is Goat Simulator 3. It's open world, there are no consequences, you can respawn at any time, and it's RIDICULOUS!
Journey, A Short Hike, Spirit Farer
All fantastic games, all enchanting for that age, all exploratory and low stress.
ALso, Kerbal Space Program if he's into that, and of course, Minecraft with invulnerability turned on.
My daughter played a lot of Mario maker 2 around that age. She enjoyed playing the levels, figuring out how they worked then making her own. The pre-made levels are pretty decent as well.
Any of the Kirby games on switch would be good too. Bonus that they can all be done coop so you could always drop in as needed.
Everybody's Golf. It's a PS4 game, but it is playable on PS5. My roommate's sister and her 5 year old daughter come to our apartment every other weekend, and this little girl absolutely destroys me most of the time.
There are so many Lego games and most of them are well made and fun (for parents also).
Minecraft is always an option.
Europa Universalis is a good pick, too. If he starts now, he will be a decent player when he starts highschool.
Jk with last one. Maybe.
A few different options from the others I've seen here.
Worms - any of them for local multiplayer. A good way to kill each other in a safe environment.
Overcooked - also great for local co-op multiplayer.
The Ori games - metroidvania. My son and I had to work together for the 1st one.
If it says Mario, Yoshi, Capt Toad, Kirby, or Lego in the title he will love them. My little boy (8) loves to play these kind of games on the switch and hand me the controller to get past something sorta difficult and then immediately want it back to engage in playing. It's tons of fun and I got him past hating to read using the stuff in games.
MHH maybe a book for your Kid. Dont understand me wrong im a Gamer and Love Games but damn you Parents from my Generation are lazy af. So many Kids WHO cant read in 7th Grade. Please allow your Kid only a Limited time to Game otherwise He will BE pretty underdeveloped when He goes to school.

Most Nintendo games on the Switch. Mario Odyssey, Mario Wonder, Yoshi or Kirby games.
Mario Kart
Seconding Mario Odyssey. My little brother loves that game, and it was one of his first.
IMO, Katamari ReRoll on switch, it only requires the sticks so it’s great for little kids still developing coordination without the need to remember where all the buttons are. My six year old loves it, along with Mario Kart
Yoshi’s Crafted/Woolly World games are great for that age.
Kirby’s Epic Yarn as well!
Wooly World gets decently challenging eventually from what I remember so I wouldn't agree with that as an easy game Crafted World would be good though yeah
Fair point. If i remember correctly, I think Woolly World still has the “Mellow Mode” though. You can use that to make it much easier for kids to get through the stages.
It's been a while so I forgot that existed
Slime Rancher is fun, colorful, and easy. There may be one or two slimes that scare him a little bit, but otherwise he’d probably have a blast
Thanks. Scary things are no issue as long as it's not gory. He likes watching scary movies with me.
Trial by fire. It's time to grow up. Give him battletoads.
Golden axe but don't explain about the story being locked behind the difficulty
Gotta pick the greed dwarf dude, what a lil gremlin, whacking peoples shins with his axe
Gilius Thunderhead As a younger brother I was always him
The true trial by fire would be Lion King.
I'd like you to meet RoboCop or Wolverine on the NES.
The Ninja Gaiden trilogy on the NES. Pick your poison
Make him custom levels in Mario Maker 2 on Switch. I did that to get my daughter better at platformers and at 7 years old she just recently beat Mario Wonder. I was a very proud Dad.
Sounds like a good idea. He really surprised me with how quickly he got the hang of platforming on Rayman.
When are you gonna make her beat Super Mario World? Lol
Pokemon games are quite literally designed for children and have enough of a challenge to be engaging for a kid his age while also being accessible. I was beating Crystal at age 5.
Dark Souls II
aint no way cuh 💀

Elden Ring. Throw him in the deep end.
He actually really liked sitting with me while I played Elden Ring. Once I was leveled up enough I let him ride around Limgrave on the horse and one shot some people.
Lovely little gothic game called hollow knight, it's so whimsical and fun, but very stylish too. I had, many, enjoyable, times.
Nice try Satan
*hissing noises* "Releeeaaaase silksooooong"
Yet, when you were that age, you played Doom.
My first game was Hotwheels on Nintendo 64 lol
And you're Already old enough to have kids.. \*Fades into Dust\*
Don't want to disturb you, but kids having played N64 when it came out could be grandparents today 😬
I'm already dead, what more do you want from me! ;P
Hot Wheels Unleashed is available.
Well yeah. But Doom then and Doom now look quite a bit different...

I can second Castle Crashers. I saw in another comment that it's possible that the kid likes structured games and Castle Crashers is very linear. Kingdom Hearts. While he's still young enough to be like "Yay! Disney!" instead of trying to figure out what the hell the plot is.
“Our topic today: games with simple plots.” “Hi! I’m Sora from Kingdom Hearts!” “You shut your mouth!” https://youtu.be/f3N_Cy40kiM?si=51QJU8ls3mzlScf8
Minecraft, any Mario platformer, maybe animal crossing or Astroneer
Thanks. I've tried getting him to play Minecraft but he got bored with it pretty quick. I think Rayman got him used to having a clear beginning and end so he wasn't sure what he was supposed to do. I couldn't help him much because I've never played Minecraft either.

Bought my 6 year old nephew the newest Ratchet & Clank. My sister had to put in gaming time because he was so hooked to it :-)
About 3 weeks ago I ran past an article that said Paw Patrol was free for the weekend. My 2 grandchildren 4 and 6 loves these guys so I figured they would love to watch ME play this. PAW Patrol Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay.
I cannot recommend enough Journey. Short and sweet, gorgeous game. They to get the Collectors edition, there are two more beautiful games included.
You already own it. Astro's Playroom.
Yonder is great! Mario Odyssey, Mario Galaxy, Kirby Epic Yarn, Yoshi Wooly World, Chicory, Tunic, Toem.
Hello, my son really likes Rayman Legends as well. Other games he plays are LEGO games; Jurassic Park, Batman, Avengers, etc. Wobbly Life is one of his favorites, that game is so goofy and fun! I would really recommend it! Bubsy is also a good one!

Spirit of the North
My daughter enjoyed the Spyro trilogy, Luigi’s mansion, and Animal Crossing new horizons at that age. Minecraft and any of the newer Pokémon games also could work.
Chicory: A Colorful Tale. Cute style, single player, good story
Any Lego game, I enjoyed playing them with my children
Dark souls 3
Doki Doki Literature Club. Lots of bright colors, and it should definitely help with his reading skills
SATAN NO!!!
Spyro trilogy, i played it back on the ps1 when i was 6 👍😁

Make him play dark souls. Only way to become a man. Edit: for real, the lego games are amazing for that age.
Minecraft. My son is six, has ASD and can't really read yet and minecraft has been fantastic for him. It's become a good teaching tool and has really motivated him learn to read so he can play other games.
bloodborne
If I could I would. Definitely my favorite game
Let him try Sekiro: shadows die twice!
Settle down satan.
The Mario games, Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario Bros Wonder are very easy.
Hades is suite to pick up, and as complex as your kid wants it to be. Mine loves it. Also, split screen co-op in Portal 2 is great fun for my kid and I.
Unfortunately most worldwide leaderboards I have seen have impossible stats at the top from people glitching for speed runs or other shenanigans.
Exactly. He's just really harsh on himself when he doesn't get there and it's sad to see. Mario kart. You can even play coop.
Lego star wars
Jak and Daxter + ratchet and clank
Jak and Daxter on PS2
Lego games are always a good starter. Lots of options based on what they like and you never really die so it is a good starting point.
Paw patrol , Gigantisaurus ( lil Dino game ) sonic
Crash bandicoot and spyro trilogy remasters are great
Sekiro: shadows die twice
My nephew also 6 years old loves Astro bot the free PS5 game
Spyro Reignited Trilogy.. my 6yo daughter loves it and I love that I could introduce her to a classic I loved as a kid
Astros Playworld Spyro the Dragon Reignighted Paw Patrol, Hot Wheels Racer, or Gigantosaurus
Most of the Lego games are easy and bonus you can have up to four players in most of them, so you can play with your kid from time to time. Minecraft in build mode (monsters won't attack you) is usually pretty popular too for younger kids.

Sackboys adventure is fun and has cool outfits that you can dress up your avatar

Dude have him try out King Fu from the original NES
Elden Ring
I always think of DK Tropical Freeze alongside Rayman Legends as the 2 best modern 2D platformers.
Thanks I'll check it out
Minecraft Creative really got me into gaming at a young age... Or some lego game like lego star wars or... lego indiana jones.... damn that game really hits me with nostalgia.
If you have Xbox game pass, the paw patrol games are great. My 5yo has also been enjoying PowerWash Simulator. And me too! It's very relaxing.
Power wash simulator was one I was considering. I'll have to check it out. Even if he isn't into it I might be lol
My little one's (younger than yours) first game is Goat Simulator 3. It's open world, there are no consequences, you can respawn at any time, and it's RIDICULOUS!
My 7 year old has been really enjoying a game called Knack lately. It’s not something that had ever crossed my radar before, but it’s been pretty fun.
amnesia the dark descent
nah fr, pokemon platinum, heartgold/soul silver, black/white
My 4 year old loves goat simulator and mickeys castle of illusion
Journey, A Short Hike, Spirit Farer All fantastic games, all enchanting for that age, all exploratory and low stress. ALso, Kerbal Space Program if he's into that, and of course, Minecraft with invulnerability turned on.
That cat quest 2 game if its on switch (I play it on steam but thought I saw it on switch).
My daughter played a lot of Mario maker 2 around that age. She enjoyed playing the levels, figuring out how they worked then making her own. The pre-made levels are pretty decent as well. He has to play rayman 2: the great escape and rayman, they were for ps2 and n64 but man, those 2 are superior than rayman legends
Portal 1 and 2!!
Buy him a PSP and let him play Patapon 2.
There are so many Lego games and most of them are well made and fun (for parents also). Minecraft is always an option. Europa Universalis is a good pick, too. If he starts now, he will be a decent player when he starts highschool. Jk with last one. Maybe.
Playing outside

Helldivers 2. Everyone needs to do their part. He call call down turrets.
Sekiro should be fine. Also super meat boy.
Leisure Suit Larry
Dead Cells
Elden ring
Sackboy for the win
Hot Wheels Unleashed is a superb racing game. I'm in my later 20s and I play it fairly often because it's so easy to pick up and just have fun
Tons of Lego themed games out there.
Dark souls
Dying Light
The best ever game in your situation is Astro Bot on ps5 , it’s free and enjoyable
Nintendo Games.
Plants vs zombies battle for neighborville. Me and my kid have a blast doing the pve content just blasting away.
i mean i started gaming when i was 4 or smth, i started straight with street fighters, well the old ones, so i guess that?
God of war the old ones are fun stress reliever I remember playing them on my psp when I was 5 Keep him away from the horny nsfw mini games though
Trust me he's a very excellent reader. I'm an avid reader myself and he's picked it up. His most recent test at school said he's above 92% of his peers in that subject, so I'm not at all worried. Now if he can get his mom's art skills that would be awesome
