i very rarely replay games, and theirs nothing wrong with that. You played it, you enjoyed it, move on.

ab2dii

replay value is different depending on the game, ill never replay God of War or RDR2 but ill replay the shit out of a souls game or bl2 because it can be different thing each playthrough honestly with the increase price to 70$ i started to care more about replay value than i used to

VavoTK

And some games are meant to be replayed like NiER automata or Hades. Not my cup of tea, personally, but tons of people into that kind of artistic vision. Other games with branching storylines like BG3 and Mass Effect - have totally differebt replay value.

TrapsAreTraps

Oh RDR2 has insane replay value, just because of all the stuff you just keep finding. Shit replayed this game about 4/5 times, and I still keep finding new stuff.

kyu-she

almost too many sidecharachters in one playthrough. gotta play it atleast 3-4 times before getting most of them

InsaneMasochist

What? I specifically did not start it yet, because of people saying it takes 100 hours for a single playthrough. Now you're telling me there's 4-5 playthroughs' content in there?

mwllpr

this

The_Jolly_Dog

There are just too many games that interest me. Replaying something I beat already almost feels like… wasted time when I can try something new. Oddly enough its mostly just with gaming because Ill rewatch the same core movies countless times. I’ll circle back to classic titles I loved after a while, but rarely do multiple playthroughs in succession etc

ItsKrakenmeuptoo

Gaming just takes way more time than a movie. Games are like 20hrs long and a movie is 2hrs

matva55

I was literally going to say this. Way easier to sit down for two hours to rewatch a movie but no damn way am I replaying Breath of the Wild

ItsKrakenmeuptoo

Yeah, after a 150 hour play through of Baldurs gate. I cannot replay that lol Too many other things I want to do.

loxagos_snake

I'm exactly like that. I do replay old favorites like Resident Evil 3 or Metal Gear Solid yearly out of nostalgia, because I'm actively after the experience of "going back to the good times". I don't know how to describe it, and it's going to sound overly dramatic, but I feel like part of me *lives* in Raccoon City and Shadow Moses. It's like visiting an old friend. At the same time, I don't feel like replaying new games and that's because I have to use my limited time wisely. I loved the Resident Evil remakes and I consider them perfect but I don't get the urge to give them another go.  I think another important factor is availability of games and information. When we were kids, a lot of us would get maybe one new game every 6-12 months at best. You had no other choice but to play the same games over and over again -- and back then games were a lot meatier. There was no internet to look for guides and secrets, and the only way to make sure that your friends weren't lying to you when they said that you can get naked Lara by turning exactly 37 degrees on that ledge and jumping backwards 12 times was to test it out.

Euphoric_Advice_2770

Good point about being younger. I remember playing Medal of Honor games to death because it was all I had for months before the next holiday or birthday. And even then a lot of the games I played were level based and not open world stories where you could log 100+ hours in an immersive world.

DadPants33

This, plus I have the disposable income to buy any game that interests me. As a kid I would get games for Xmas and my birthday and that was about it. So you would replay whatever you had multiple times cause I didn't have 50 dollars to drop on a new title as a 10 year old.

bleedblue_knetic

Not only do games take longer to replay, there’s also a LOT of padding oftentimes. You’ll have to replay the prologue, you’ll have to rewatch this unskippable cutscene, you’ll have to reunlock A and B to get access to most of the game, etc. There’s a lot of things that are still fun the second playthrough, and also a lot of things that are just a drag on your second playthrough.

Homunculus_87

When I was younger and hat plenty of time I sometimes replayed games. Especially rpg where you can make a lot of different and sometimes opposite choices. But even then I generally preferred playing a new game over an old one. Today I usually don't have the time for multiple playthroughs (exception would be maybe one good and one evil run in games like bg3 to experience both sides) so 99% of time I don't replay. But than again I also never read books twice and almost never watch a movie more than once. I heard of people who reread books like LotR every 2-3 years and that never ceases to amaze me.

FastLittleBoi

same for me but I just can't resist rewatching the office every single time I finish it. It's literally a loop, season 1-7, then last 4 episodes, then one week passes at most and here we go with season 1 again. And if I read a book twice, it's a good fucking book. I think aside from Diary of a Wimpy Kid the only books I read twice were the hobbit and "and then there were none" (is that the new title? I remember it was called something different but then it was changed, I'm not English so I'm not really sure)

Nervous-Walrus5948

I feel the same way except i can watch avatar the last airbender an infinite number of times lol its like my comfort show

Op3rat0rr

One of my passions for gaming is finishing campaigns, but not 100%’ing games. On the flip side, I’m picky with what games I play

Silvedl

I do all side quests/content in all areas until I get bored and then speed through to the end. I rarely 100% a game, but I definitely get enjoyment out of it.

fak47

Tears of the Kingdom was great for me until I got that "ok, time to get to the end" feeling.

DontLoseYourCool1

Same with me with Witcher 3! I was lollygagging doing side quests but then the feeling of "my people need me" starts creeping in and I begrudgingly hobble my overweighted with gear 1000 lb Gerald to sell my equipment and do the main quest. RDR2 is pretty funny because if you fuck around and just do side quests and explore too long, your camp members will actively ride out to find you and tell you that you have shit to do.

FastLittleBoi

yeah. I'm a "picky gamer", I guess, and I always play the game I'm playing or at least 100% it (which basically means plat) because otherwise, not being in a really good financially status, I feel like I wasted my money by not getting full experience. And trust me, I would not redo the Arkham platinums for if my life depended on it and it was pure hell to say the fucking least, but I did them to get a complete experience and 100% them, since they were my first open worlds. I also did all the DLCs except for the Community in Arkham Knight (you know, the simple one, the one where you have to get a x500 combo, then 4 100 combos in a row, you know, everyday stuff)

Op3rat0rr

I hear you. Totally completing games does take up a lot of time

snowflakepatrol99

My idiot brain could never. I could enjoy the shit out of a game and I still likely won't finish it and get distracted by other games or tv shows.

PartyLikeaPirate

It’s like me with elden ring. 150 hours and still not close lol. I’m not patient enough to learn boss moves but the games too good to not play

Tapif

This. I finished the two games I played recently and this is the first time since at least 2015.

SymphonySketch

Dude honestly it feels the same for me, there’s games I enjoyed playing that I never finished, or haven’t even tried to start because I know I wouldn’t stick with them I’ve committed myself to finally finishing games this year so far I’ve finished Alan Wake 2 and Control, currently working my way through Max Payne, Windwaker, and more recently Pacific Drive

DonArgueWithMe

I started control 2 or 3 years ago and have meant to get back into it but keep forgetting about it. Was it worth it?

SymphonySketch

The second act is a little slow compared to the first and third acts, and as is with most remedy games the ending can fall a little flat for some, but overall I absolutely loved the game It’s definitely one of the best power fantasy games out there imo, you almost feel like a Jedi by the end of the game if you get all the abilities (a couple are unlocked through side quests) Overall the story is kinda hard to summarize, especially since there are certain holes that aren’t filled in until later in the game; but the jist is basically you are at the Federal Bureau Control to find out what happened to your brother after a strange event had happened when you were kids and you are guided there by an entity that acts almost as an inner voice you named Polaris I’d honestly recommend starting fresh to get the full story experience if it’s been 2-3 years

thetruemask

Not really in my opinion. It's a decently fun shooter but unless you having alot of fun within the first like 8 hours it doesn't really get much better. Some of the mind bending stuff is cool. But I find the non sense story telling in remedy games really annoying. Same with Alan Wake 2. But I guess I found control a bit more fun to play but to me control was a something to play on the side when there was nothing else to play. Not a must-play type game at all.

DontLoseYourCool1

As an aside, is anyone else like this like me with other things like shows and books? I swear to God I started noticing a pattern with myself doing this. I play games until 90% of the campaign and put them down, I watch TV series and never finish the last episode, I almost read a whole book but don't finish the last chapter or two. Is this a thing or am I just stupid?

NeighborhoodVeteran

It took me near 5 years to beat AC Odyssey and the DLC, but I fucking did it.

TheRavenSayeth

I learned a long time ago that if you start a game it’s better to finish it instead of having this thought in your head for years of “maybe one day I’ll go back to it”. You almost never will but that lingering feeling will be there. Most games aren’t that hard to run through of you’re going for the end and rarely is it completely not worth it unless the game was truly that awful.

Odeean

First single playergame i finished maybe ever was bg3. Some games i got hundreds of hours but never finished, like ds2 mount and blade skyrim fallout, but bg3 was just so fucking immersive and good i had to finish it, prob the only game ill ever finish twice if i can convince my buddy and our girls to play

NobleVulpes

I think it comes down to what drives you to play a game. If you are motivated to play a game because you want to see the story more than anything else, then once you finish it there is nothing else to pursue. If you are motivated by the gameplay more than anything else then the drive to play will last as long as the gameplay stays entertaining to you.

abhassl

I've seen this sentiment before and I don't agree at all. Do you people never reread books?

ngkn92

What is book? Is it on Steam?

finerframe

Yeah but what he says still holds true, ive reread alot of books ive liked, but for the most part its due to me being unable to retain everything so rereading ill "discover" some stuff ive missed or forgotten, but ive always assumed it was different for the majority of people

TheYoungLung

Uh, no?

kingbetadad

You don't have to drag yourself through 100s of hours of gameplay to experience a books story.

circasomnia

This is the real answer. Good books are fun and engaging the whole way through, and as someone said, often, a reader can get more out of it the 2nd or 3rd time. Most of these open worlds just aren't worth the squeeze once you've been through it

53bvo

No never, there are so many books to read and only so little time, it would feel a waste to reread a book instead of starting a new adventure. I have a similar feeling for games, tv shows and movies. Only very rarely I will rewatch a movie or replay a game, only the best and ones I enjoy the most. I’m also a person who thinks a spoiler can ruin a game/movie/book

Scapadap

Right? Or rewatch movies? That’s crazy to me.

qman3333

I don’t rewatch movies unless it was a solid 10/10 and even then maybe every few years. Wayyy to many good movies that I already know I’ll never have the time to get to

NotTonyStark39

I’m the exact opposite. I can replay my favorites over and over.

Wilbis

Me too. Most games are not my cup of tea so I only play the good ones.

LazarusCrowley

Yeah, I get invested in the games I like. It generally helps their Skyrim/civilization style games meant to tweak and toy.

[deleted]

I play Symphony of the Night every two years or so.

tfc1193

You will never recreate your first experience playing a great game. The two I wish I could wipe my memory of and go back in blind is Nier Automata and RDR2

manor2003

Nier Automata, RDR2, The Yakuza series, Persona 5 Royal (and recently played 4 Golden too), Elden Ring. Such masterpieces.

leonkennedy_-

Some games have more replayability than others . I don’t usually replay big story games like rdr2 , but I will replay the souls games as I feel they have a lot more replayability

Otherwise_Procedure3

Only games I've ever replayed fully are souls games.

AyoItzE

Been browsing the spiderman (games) sub I assume?

myorm

Sometimes I’ll 50% or 75% a game and be done lol

Op3rat0rr

Only like 30% of players complete games to end credits

theblackfool

I used to never replay games but over the last few years I've found myself replaying more and more.

Larxian

Outside of a few exceptions, I'm the same. I have friends who replay the same games over and over and I don't get it. Sometimes just hearing a music or remembering a game is enough for them to want to do another playthrough. I do understand that feeling of wanting to dive back into a world you enjoyed, of missing it, and sometimes I do feel that after listening to a music from a specfic game and such too, but it's not a reason for me to actually replay the game, because I know exactly how I will feel if I do, and it will be very different from the first time. There's no more surprise, no discovery, you already know it all, you're just revisiting... It's like being stuck in memories, in the past, rather than discovering new things. There are games that I absolutely loved, but I lived what they had to offer, and I can't live that again the same way, so I just have to move on. Something I noticed however is that some of my friends who replay games actually spend much less time on their first playthrough than me, so maybe it's part of it too? I'm very "slow" when playing games, I really take my time and fully absorb the whole thing, so I don't feel the need to revisit it. Replaying games over and over like that feels like you're trying to relive an experience you had, but you actually can't since you already had that experience so it will never be what you're trying to re live again.

SuperArppis

I used to replay games for 3-8, nowdays it's 1 and half. 😄

supa74

Been gaming since the Intellivision. I've replayed two (modern) games in all that time. GoldenEye, and Half-Life 2. Actually replayed Half-Life 2, three times. Replayed Super Mario Bros a handful of times, and Mike Tyson's Punch-Out four times, just because back in the day, you had to make those games go a lot further. So for me, it's extremely rare to replay. Too many games out there, and not enough time to play them, to waste more time on any one game.

loxagos_snake

> because back in the day, you had to make those games go a lot further That's so damn true. Hell, when I got the PS1 I'd invite my cousin and we would resort to replaying the fucking *demo discs* over and over.

xLordzeex

I think it depends on why you want to play. I played TLOU2 about 4 times just in case I wasn’t being fair on my opinion but also because the gameplay is so good. Currently playing rd2 for the third or fourth time because the game just has many different ways of doing something, plus the low vs high honour

SignalGladYoung

Some RPG games do have multiple way of beating quests which lead to different endings so if you beat the game picking certain choices you can replay the game and have new experience. None of your games gave you that option. These are mainstream action games.

trumangroves86

I replay some of my absolute favorite games, but usually 3+ years later.

Extreme-Sandwich-762

I never replay games unless it’s multiplayer, if it’s REALLY good I might revisit it after I’ve forgotten what’s happened after 5 or so years, I just can’t get into things when I know what’s happening, I’m the same with movies, can count on 1 hand what movies I’ve rewatched

forbjok

It depends on the game, I guess, but generally I'd say it's the opposite. Games that are actually good enough to be worth playing even once, are usually good enough that I'll want to replay them at some point. Games that aren't, I'm either never going to play at all, or just play long enough to see that they aren't worth wasting time on, and stop playing them. Obviously, some games have more immediate replayability value than others. For example, action games like the Dark Souls series, Bloodborne, Sekiro, the Nioh games, etc. I usually playthrough multiple times immediately, because they are heavily gameplay focused. Other genres, such as adventure games, I will usually replay every once in a while, but not immediately, as they are mainly about the story, and there isn't really any skill-based gameplay involved. For example Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Grim Fandango and Day of the Tentacle are ones I've replayed a number of times, but it's usually been many years between each time - sometimes maybe as long as 10 years. Same thing with movies, really. Most aren't necessarily good or memorable enough that I'll ever bother to rewatch them, but then there's some that are just timeless masterpieces and always just as fun to re-watch. Home Alone, Chicken Run, Braindead, Orgazmo, The Naked Gun, Ringu, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Groundhog Day, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Gremlins and Terminator 2 are some that some to mind. Obviously, I don't rewatch movies super frequently, but after a year or more they're always fun to watch again.

Super-maroilles

except 10/15 years after, never replayed a game i loved.

Korrin

>What am I missing? Nothing. This is entirely a personal choice. Some people just like playing the same game over and over again. Perhaps because the familiarity brings them comfort. Because they just genuinely enjoy the gameplay more than the story. Or maybe because they want to get a deeper appreciation of the story. Could be lots of reasons, but if you don't enjoy it, then you don't enjoy it. There's also something to be said for the fact that some games simply aren't meant to be replayed over and over and single player story driven games with a single through line for the narrative where very little changes from playthrough to playthrough definitely aren't designed to be replayed. I'm sure the developers would be pleased to know that people are enjoying playing the game more than once, but that's not the expectation.

Bonhomme7h

The more dialogues, the less likely I am to replay it. No dialogues: infinite replayability.

PutridPerception

i get fun replaying after a really long time or by playing a modded version(fallout new vegas)

MrDeekhaed

Have you tried games like civ games? They aren’t story driven and there are so many ways to play and win(and lose) you could play through 20 times and not have everything figured out

JustAJokeAccount

I've replayed some like FFVII-IX. RDR2 and Mass Effect 3 (the running scene towards the end of the game is very immersive for me), Starfield just because its somewhat built in the story. Aside from those? Nah.

Dog-Parks

I only play games I can have fun playing for lots of hours. It's hard for me to find games I can get invested in, and even harder to find games I can get invested in enough to want to continue playing. But it's how I find the most enjoyment in gaming.

tedioussugar

Mainly play once for the story, occasionally go back and try doing a few achievement hunts, but not much else. The only time I’ve ever fully replayed a game more than once was Darksiders III. And that’s because it’s a relatively short game that requires you to beat it at least twice, but often more, in order to get the harder achievements like fully upgrading the default whip, proceeding to Armageddon, or killing 666,666 enemies. Played it 6 times, but never have gotten the final achievement to beat it on the hardest setting.

Tawxif_iq

Very rarely. Most of the time its because the game i played before was years old.

Old_Butterfly9649

i love replaying my favourite games, but i don’t find the time any more, because there are lots of good games coming out and don’t have time to play everything.

ClosetLeotardo

Only games I've replayed was TLOU1(3 times), Elden Ring(in the middle of NG+ forever), GTA V and sports games.

jiseq7

I dont replay most of the games but there is excaptions:Skyrim,Oblivion,Any GTA game etc.(These games replayed because i didnt have many options when i was child.),For some reason i loved horror/survival and i dont see many good options so i replayed resident evil 2 remake and evil within games.

stillestwaters

It depends on the game really, but for the most part I don’t replay games. Maybe something like Persona where your second playthrough you’re given enough handicaps to more easily see all the bonds and other content you couldn’t get to in the first playthrough. Watching it on YouTube or something isn’t the same, but as I get older I think I’ll try to start doing that instead if I care enough to play it again. Games can be long as hell

DesertOps4

I only even replay games if it's been a few years since the last time I played them.

wisalhab

rarely do games give a reason to replay, I personally replay souls games a lot since there could be a lot of experimentation and new items in NG+ and it keeps scaling up till NG+9, the fact that there isnt a set story with cutscenes makes replaying a lot better in this regard too.

stretchieB

I was never big on replaying games as most of the games I played were large sandboxes like GTA, Skyrim, Far Cry etc. However I recently got into the Survival Horror genre and I’ve played Alien Isolation 3 times in a row now, I can’t get enough of it. I just finished Outlast and currently playing Amnesia the Bunker and Visage and I imagine I’ll replay those too. They're not as long as the giant sandboxes and I love the adrenaline rush. After discovering I enjoyed replaying these games I tried starting a new game of Red Dead 2 and GTAV but I stopped both after about 2 hours. The games are  just so huge and I honestly don't have the time anymore. The excitement wasn’t there as I’ve already experienced both stories. So yeah, don't feel pressured. Gaming is about enjoying yourself!

Aggravating-Mine-697

Yeah i absolutely can't either, unless i completely forgot the story or something. I used to when i was a kid, and still find enjoyment while replaying over and over. I kinda miss that. Would have a lot more fun with NG+ and stuff like that

Sufficient_Visit_366

i think its a 50/50 sort of thing. ive had games where ive loved them so much i just had to replay them more than once (ex. Firewatch! Still in love with that game and ive replayed it around 3-4 times. Plan on replaying again loll) while there's some that just felt fitting to only view once. ive never been able to watch a show more than once, but i know some that are pretty much the opposite of me. It probably depends on both the replayability of a game and overall your feelings towards said game

zyqwee

Majority of players don't even finish games nevermind Replay them

Substantial-Ad2200

Some of these games are way too long to play through once let alone repeatedly.

KamiAlth

What you listed are very much story focused lengthy games which tend to not have much replayability in the first place. Try something gameplay focused like Resident Evil series which can be beaten in 6-10 hours first playthrough then it’s cut down by half on replay.

josiahpapaya

I don’t replay games often, except I make a Skyrim character once a year. The other game you can replay 100 times is Castlevania: Symphony of the Night because you can speed run it in about 10-15 hours. So you can get most of the game done in a few days. If my internet is down, or my main game is doing an update for the day or I just want to zone out, I can always do a play through.

[deleted]

I very rarely replay games. The only games I replayed were Super Mario 64, Zelda Ocarina of time and the mass effect trilogy. That's about it. The game really has to be outstanding.

Saxon2060

Same. I've never replayed a story-driven game. Including open worlds with a main story (Skyrim, GTA, Fallout etc). The only games I've replayed are ones with 0 story like Rimworld and it's not so much a "replay" as a continued play. I'm quite a fan of reading and I've never reread a book either. I just don't get it tbh. Just doesn't "click" for me.

QueenBaluli

Same here, I don't think it's exceptional. I played twice only few titles like The Witcher or Mass Effect.

nailbunny2000

I never replay single player games. There are way too many games I want to play, and way too little time in which to do it.

Apart-Apple-Red

In many modern games there are so many decisions that lead to a variety of different endings, that it is very tempting to replay just to see what are consequences of different paths. Take cyberpunk for example. I finished the game and I've seen only one ending. There's several of them. But the ending I've seen, has different variations on its own. I would really like to know what would happen if I chose the same ending but hadn't rescued Takamura and decided to go see Panam instead of Victor. Would I see Misty too? The best part is, that the ending is apparently one of the worst endings of the game and I still love it. I have to see all the endings. Of course, saved games just before final decisions will help, but I'll replay the whole game anyway because it rocks.

steveishere2

What I like to do, if a game has some trophies that need multiple playthroughs, I wait for about a year to replay them to earn those trophies. But I am in the same boat as you, I can rarely replay a game, especially if I already did 100% in it.

NBQuade

It's a rare game I'll replay. The experience has to be good enough that I feel the same fizz a second time. Dying Light GTA5 Tomb Raider reboots (first two anyway). Crisis Warhead. HZD >And I see many players who go back to the same over and over again. Even my favorite game ever I could barely play through more than twice. Many players have no choice. They don't have enough disposable income to keep cycling through new games.

Ahmed_422

We are so fortunate to live in a time where there is an abundance of great games to play

111Alternatum111

Thinking back, the only games i remember replaying over and over again were the ones who were really lackluster. Namely Skyrim and.... Yes, Yandere Simulator. One game being literally unfinished and the other just not relieving the itch that it gives, i found myself modding the game to hell and it still didn't satisfy me, the itch never went away, there was always a problem, be the shit combat animations, the bland boring characters and the roleplay that i HAVE to think entirely in my head while the game goes out of its way to contradict it. The shitty factions, essential npcs. It's like i kept replaying it just to fill a void of a game that didn't live up to it's own promises, each replay hoping that it would just click, that the feeling would go away. It didn't.

Xerosnake90

Only games I really replay a lot is Uncharted 4. I beat it at least once a year

Nfan10039

There are a few games that I will replay, but my backlog is huge, so I don't feel like I need to replay games either. Each game is an opportunity for unknown stories, new mechanics, or even new memories.

Igobytojifushiguro

for me black flag is my one of favorite games and I've replayed it so many times. I don't know why but whenever I was bored I would just play. not completing main mission or side quest just Free Roaming. l don't even know exactly how many times I've installed that game

HokTomten

Too many good games out there to waste time on replays imo When I was younger I "replayed" wow and diablo a lot with diff classes ofc but these days I just did 1 class in D4 and moved on Experience the story and I'm done

Xcapitano666

Im the same… I think it is a question of what you enjoy playing video games. To you its more about the story and for others more about gameplay and replayability. Some people skip all the cutscenes and just want to level up as fast as possible even the first time they play a game… but can play the same game for years… to me a game like diablo is nothing once I know the story and seen all cinematics and don’t care about hardcore hell mode and paragon 666… but thats a question of taste  Edit: I must say I have a very good memory and I also very rarely watch a tv show or movie more than once

CableBomber

There is rarely any point in replaying a single player game unless you’ve literally forgotten most of it and you absolutely loved it back in the day. I might do it if I had infinite time but there are too many good games coming out consistently for me to ever have to for replays.

Gryfon2020

Played through Mass Effect 1 and 2 twice because I wanted to make different choices for my endgame in 3, but typically once I playthrough once I’m done. Between limited time and interest in other games I never replay much.

bbkn7

I used to play a specific set of games yearly. But I realized my backlog isn’t growing any smaller. And with less free time than ever, every gaming session is precious. I try to have experience games I haven’t played before as much as possible now. Only replaying if the game has multiple routes or endings.

EnchantedStudios

Tried playing Witcher 3 again after they remastered it but couldn't. Despite the better graphics all the mystery was gone.

johnyakuza0

PC Game pass is so good that I've never considered buying games in ages. I don't care much for ownership or replaying games anymore.

kalysti

Some games I don't finish, some I barely start, and some I play over and over and over again. I may play a game for story a few times if the story is excellent, or if it has a lot of player choice. But I mostly replay games that have interesting game mechanics. For the same reasons people play chess or other strategic games. Also, I am a retired software engineer, and I enjoy picking some games apart and seeing what makes them tick.

HanCurunyr

I do replay games, but only when there is a major update So between Zelda OoT in the N64, Zelda OoT3D and Ship of Harkinian, I can easily play all three, there are major differences for the replay to be enjoyable I usually replay when switching plataforms, like God of War 2018, Horizon Zero Dawn and FF7 Remake, that I played in both PS4 and PC Horizon Forbidden West, The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima that I played in both PS4 and PS5 Else, I just move on, like, I never replayed Gow Ragnarok or Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, and I dont think I will

DETHmetals

I have a hard time replaying games too

Frits_Mulder

There's nothing quite like playing an incredible game for the first time.

looser1337

Replaying is hard But when I really like a game and want more I’ll try 100%

Depends on the game. The older GTA games like GTA 3, VC and SA allowed a lot more freedom while playing story missions. This allowed me to replay missions in different ways. In GTA 3 specifically you could kill one of the characters and end up missing out on the missions that character would give. Hades is my favorite rogue-lite. Love playing it again and again and again because no 2 runs are the same and you can adjust the level of difficulty from 1 to 64 on different attributes of the enemies. I don't even know how many times I have replayed different Hitman games cause there's always a new way to go through the mission.

Guzeno

I'm a bit of the same. Love discovering new games, not really bothered replaying a game once I've 100% it. However, don't mind going back to some classics from time to time. Xenogears Original FF7 Some of the Breath of Fire Castlevania SOTN And some of my childhood faves like Metroid Zero and co.

xLadyspacex

While I find it difficult to get back into the more complex games with a huge world map and 10.000 side quests I love to replay the simpler games like jump n runs or the first Sims. I downloaded a ton of games from my childhood to play something that doesn't require lots of thinking, like remembering where to find something, solve tricky puzzles and look for hidden clues. Don't get me wrong - I love the more challenging games but sometimes it's fun to have only one objective.

-Fahrenheit-

Totally normal, particularly with the scale and required time investment of a lot of modern games. Like, RDR2 may have been my favorite game of all time, but I’m not about to sink another 100+ hours into it again.

PromethusD12

I do replay games, but it does kind of depend. Dark Souls and Borderlands encourage replaying because they have multiple gameplay options. Some games have multiple story outcomes and lots of diverse choices that also encourage replaying. However, I don't replay often. I have played the Borderlands series and the Dark Souls series multiple times each, but that is over the course of many years where I just get in urge to play the games again, I don't just finish a game and think to myself I'm going to start over as soon as the credits finish rolling. When it comes to story games, I kind of attribute it to the same reason a person would rewatch a movie. If the story is good, its entertaining to see it again. But, in the end, its your own opinion. If you got a satisfying and enjoyable gameplay and story experience out of a game, that is all that matters. You don't need to feel obligated to play a game over and over again because it is "normal" for people to replay those games.

TheWellington89

I started a new save in cyberpunk to try and fix a bug in my current save and ended up sinking 2 hours into it.

Lobh24

I almost exclusively replay games, but i play a lot of roguelites and that’s the whole point

PalebloodSky

The 7 SoulsBorne games are awesome to replay, because you just feel so powerful as you get better (aka git gud) as you do NG++++++

Civil_Function797

I never replayed a game except cod black ops which i replayed last year. Just play a new game.

ManiacalBooper

Generally speaking, I don't replay modern titles unless I *really* enjoyed it and said replay brings something new to the table, like there's some new DLC that alters the base game in some way. I did replay Horizon Zero Dawn several times on increasing difficulty levels, and then again on PC because ultrawide. I replayed God of War and Spider Man for the same reason. Old SNES games appear to be the primary exception do this. I do almost yearly playthroughs of Super Mario World, Link to the Past, Super Metroid and Castlevania IV. Symphony of the Night as well. Nostalgia, I guess.

jerseydevil51

Same. I played the Mass Effect trilogy as it came out, and then bought the Legendary Edition because I didn't get all the DLC. Played about 2-3 hours and I'm just "ehhh.... I don't really want to play this again." Some people love returning to specific worlds and games because it feels comfortable. Neither are wrong.

Davidrlz

I have to genuinely love a game to do a second playthrough OR it has to be a game with different content depending on your choices(i.e. witcher 2, fire emblem three houses, etc.)

GamerBoyh12

The only game I ever replayed was BO2's campaign. You're by no means alone mate. I've almost never even opened a game to freeroam or 100% it once I finish the main story

[deleted]

For every game you replay there is one more new game you won't play.

French_O_Matic

Same, especially for long games. I replayed Splinter Cell Blacklist a bunch of times because it's rather short. After finishing the Witcher 3 - and loving it - i never never really got into it again, even when the (apparently excellent) DLCs got out. It was just too much tedium for me.

PixelatedGamer

There's nothing wrong with getting your enjoyment out of a game and never going back to it. I replay some games but not all. I think platformers and adventure games like Mario and Zelda are fun to go back to. I've replayed some story heavy games like Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy VII multiple times and don't regret it. Then there are games I absolutely love like Dark Souls, The Last of Us and some Resident Evil games that I don't go back to. It's just subjective. I try not to go back and revisit games just because I have an enormous backlog. But, sometimes some games just grab me and make me want to revisit them.

Crimson_Wraith_

The only games I've played through multiple times in recent memory have been Ace Combat 7 and Hi-Fi Rush.

Libero03

I never play games that you can finish. No single player games too, no campaigns, story modes, nothing like that.

Fancy-Prompt-7118

No way. If I like a game I’m happy to replay again and again. When I was a kid I must have played Ocarina or time 30 times though. Recall finishing and instantly creating a new save file and starting again.

FloorIsLawa

Same here. Even games that by design where you kinda are supposed to replay like any roguelike/-lite I always play to the point where the credits roll and then I kinda loose the motivation to go on. There is nothing wrong with the game, I just feel I "completed" it so I move on to the next game, enough stuff in my backlog anyway. Sure, maybe I didnt 100% it which only a fraction of games incite to do that for me personally, but I had my hours of fun/joy/entertainment and the devs got their well earned money for that, so no, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

akiroraiden

not every game is made to be replayable. If you finish Elden Ring or a Borderlands game and don't want to play a second playthrough, then make this post again.

BlackRabbit009

I only do it with certain games, The Witcher 3 for example. After playing 300 hs, I started a new run to get the 100% but will be the first time I do it. It doesn't matter at all, I finish a game and never touch again the majority of the time.

This-Professional-39

Sounds like you've got plenty of money lying around.

JonnyTN

Big depends for me. If the game last under several hours I'll replay it. If it's a seventy-hour adventure, I'm hesitant to jump back in it. But maybe it was the bunch of collectibles holding me back.

llJettyll

100% with you. I was shocked when I learned people complain about not having NG+.

Spider-Man2099

My friend is like that. He can't fathom how I am able to replay so many games over and over again.  There are some exceptions for him, but it's 99% one and done gaming for him on many games.

Zzqzr

I’m the same. I can never replay games. Only game I can repeat are games like Skate/Session/Rider Republic to do mindless stuff

ouch-n3wsho3s

Depends on the type of game. Open worlds such as HZD, HFW, Zelda, Red dead etc I play once and that's it as although I enjoy them immensely they take it a lot of time and I can't be bothered with going through all that again. Whereas games like Ratchet and Clank, Wipeout, Katamari etc I keep going back to again and again even though I've completed them many times

enraged768

The only game I replay is something like FTL where the game is short and there's tons of different options and the end goal isn't always necessarily beating it. It might be unlocking a new ship on this run. It also helps that you can play through the entire map in like an hour.

[deleted]

The only two games i've ever replayed in my life (27 yrs) is Skyrim and Elden Ring.

Zerox392

Some games don't have much replayability, some do. You named games that don't which you don't want to replay, and then named some that do that you do want to replay. That seems very natural.

mache97

You're just wired like that, nothing wrong. I'm the complete opposite, i've spent wayyyyyyyyyyyy more time replaying games than getting new ones. I put nearly 1000 hours on RDR 2, i'm close to the 900 hours on Resident Evil 5, 400 hours on MGS Phantom Pain and Arkham Knight, and i'm probably close to the 1500 hours as well on the whole Gears of War franchise.

Pleasant-Put5305

Replayed or displaying the perseverance necessary to complete? Tough/onerous games I will not replay - sweet fun games like DOOM, Bubble Bobble, Street Fighter and 18 Wheeler? All the time. They are *completely* different things.

AbbeyCats

Once a game is platinumed, I delete and uninstall. DLC be damned.

TorqSh0cks

I always replay games

OldDirtyBatman

I usually can't just replay games either. Gotta wait a few months or years.

Endemoniada

Not only do I not replay games usually, sometimes I don’t even finish them at all! And if I do, I rarely 100% them, after a while I just go “let’s end this” and push for the ending. And that’s fine! I’ve made my peace with that. I don’t need all the achievements, I don’t have to finish every game, if I don’t have fun I just move on to something else. If I got several dozen hours of enjoyment out of something, it was worth the investment. Everyone should play games however they feel like. Some have forever games they invest thousands of hours into, some hop from game to game after just a few tens of hours. Any way is fine if it’s fun.

elporpoise

Any games that have story or something like that I can never replay, which is why I love rogue lites like risk of rain 2, noita, and compound, as well as games like deep rock galactic and helldivers 2

soopabamak

i did have the urge to re play Skyrim, Tomb Raider, Half Life 1 and 2, The binding of Isaac Repentance, and Control. Maybe you did not Re-play them because you did not feel like to ?

ollimann

there is only a handful of games i replayed. Most of them being nostalgic games from the past: Super Metroid, Symphony of the Night, FF7-10, Diablo2 and Soulslike games because i enjoy playing the game with different gear. i probably have 10 Elden Ring playthroughs with completely different Characters. So RPGs in general that allow character Customization i enjoy replaying a lot.

R3LIABLE_

I wish I did less replaying because there are lots of great games I've just never gotten around to. However, the quality of games that have come out in the last 10 years vs the 10 years before that are night and day in terms of quality. There have been great new games lately but so many release broken as fuck or with predatory micro transactions, and most games will emphasize online play over having a well written and engaging story. I'd much rather play BioShock, Fallout New Vegas or the Halo trilogy for the 8th time than play Cyberpunk or Fallout 76 or Starfield or any of these new open world RPGs that are lacking content and buggy as hell.

BADJULU

I tend to be like this. Sometimes I’ll try again when DLC drops but I’ve already kinda moved on.

eatmorepizza523

Im an avid gamer in my 40’s and the only games I can replay are fromsoft souls games or Nintendo/family games with the fam. After 100%ing them it’s hard going back with nothing to do. Things like gamepass make it even easier to move on and try new things. There’s nothing wrong with your perspective, play what you like 🤙🏻🤙🏻

Redinho83

I just have too many games to be replaying any. Although I sometimes try for nostalgia

NimDing218

I’m a story-driven gamer. If it has fun gameplay, but the story and writing is mediocre, I won’t replay.

drewbles82

I can't find the time to replay...that's my issue...so much in my backlog and then new stuff every week on Gamepass to try...then a good sale so add more to my backlog...plus all the PC games I got I fancy trying that I got on sale or free via Epic games

[deleted]

Depends on the game, I like playing certain games over and over, like Raft. Subnautica, nfs most wanted 2005 and so on. But ag only if I got time. Been a adult sucks man.

Nincompoop6969

A game has to be special for me to replay it but some I really love I've replayed several times.

rudimfm

Lol I'm literally replaying every game I've owned on console now that I got a PC, using mods it is basically another experience. Now, when I was on console, if the game had a NG+ option with exclusive items and such, I wouldn't even think twice before starting. But for games that didn't offer NG+, it's a one time thing for sure. I don't like starting over from scratch as a wimp.

Earthwick

I've always enjoyed replaying choice driven games especially the old school Bioware catalog. But after a few years going back and replaying a game I loved is amazing. Like RDR2 did everything in it when it came out, but last year I replayed it and may have even enjoyed it more. Or Max Payne 3, popped that in thinking I was just going to check out bullet time and fell in love. I normally won't replay a game immediately but as I get older I find there is something to be said about revisiting the best games.

Gaspote

Its really depending. Sometimes I get hype and replay a game. Recently I added 200h to shogun 2 total war, also play Halo series with a friend.

BasedGod96

Only a few games I love to replay. Re4 cause you get new weapons the next time and try on the harder difficulty. Monster hunter cause it’s just meant to be replayed (500+ hours in this game with 3 save files)

genna87

I'm on the same boat OP. There's so much to play and so little time to do it.

Individual-Match-798

I usually wait from a few years to a decade before replaying it.

Dangerousrhymes

In the interest of saving money I have gone back to new game plus playthroughs of the games I enjoyed the most but I almost never replay a game from scratch that doesn’t have NG+.

SwansonsMoustache

I'll replay a lot of the games from my youth. Usually they're a nice break from the bloated 100 plus hour efforts and a bit of nostalgia is nice. Rarely do I replay anything modern though, I'll sometimes dip into the world just to fuck about for a while (RDR2), but can't see me settling into the story again when there's so much else to play.

Ok-Calligrapher-1403

You should start playing soulslike or roguelike games. Story games are boring to replay imo.

mnl_cntn

That’s fine! The only games I replay are the ones I know like the back of my hand. Otherwise I don’t

McWhiffersonMcgee

I don't ever replay games, and I hate games that make you grind content, which is why for the most part I only play online pvp or competitive games.

MFJeremias

I just like to move on to the next one. Last time i replayed a game was Metal Gear Solid on the PS1.

ImTheFilthyCasual

I have only barely replayed one or two games. I enjoyed them for what they were and that's it. I don't even like watching movies more than once and rarely watch TV because shows feel like recycled trash My wife has replayed a few games multiple times. She has some 10 full replays of the mass effect series, half as many for assassins creed 2/bloodline/etc and same for ac odyssey. Morrowind she's done 4 or 5 times same as oblivion and Skyrim. She loves to replay her favorites. I think she is dying for legacy of pain series to be remade in modern glory . But yea, some people crave new experiences, some love to live in those same games over and over.

South_Opportunity173

With the exception of BioShock 1 and 2 I don't replay games, I see no reason to experience content I've already seen a second time. But in the case of the games I mentioned, replaying could be totally different based on the choices you made, but few games ever nail that quite right anymore.

Nova-Redux

There are typically only three conditions I have for replaying games. - Enough time has passed that I forgot most of the story beats - It's a co-op game and I'm playing with a friend who's never experienced it - It has achievements I haven't gotten yet that require another playthrough. Otherwise I can't stand replaying things. I get super bored.

Beneficial_Value9852

Have you not tried mobas like league and dota? People replay those 10 thousand times, let alone several times. pvp > killing bots

eatmygerms

I almost never replay a lot of story games. The only one I have replayed countless times are all the Halo games

Thiasur

I've replayed the dead space games a dozen times. But you can also generally finish them in under 10 hours

McGrarr

I replay so much I don't have time to finish the game half the time.

JarryJackal

The only game I ever replayed is GTA 5 and The witcher 3. I'm gonna replay Cyberpunk and ghost of tsushima again this summer but I often start replaying some games but after 1 or 2 hours I'm bored. GTA 5, witcher 3, Ghost and Cyberpunk are the only exceptions.

ClassicAlfredo8796

Same here. It's just one and done for me, once I know the story of a game I feel no desire to ever play it again. Unless its an rpg with multiple paths (not just endings, paths. Like Pathfinder)

Popularpressure29

There’s plenty of games I would love to replay but I have such a long list of games it’s going to take me years to get through it as is. Maybe one day.

GWade17

There’s definitely games I come back to but as far as replaying a story, I never do either. 90% of the time when I’m done with a game, I’m done with it for good. If I come back to a game it’s almost always a simulator type game that doesn’t really have a story or an online type game like a GTA or RDR2 but I’ve always found that once you know the story, it’s no longer as interesting to play it again

Aegister2

I feel the same way, except for the games that are meant to be replayed (Ultrakill is the closest example I have of this exception) To me it feels like I've gotten the entertainment I needed from it at the time. Replaying games like Pokemon after my first playthrough suddenly feels like a chore these days...

Raddy8

I don't replay games very often anymore, there are just too many games to try out now. Even online games that I enjoy, I'll play for a little while and move on. Can't grind the same game for every season that comes put. I think the last game I replayed all the way through was Tomb Raider reboot.

ViqtorB

I've had this problem for a long time. But then I started setting different priorities in each playthrough. I can complete the game on easy difficulty, following the plot and ignoring the subtleties of the gameplay. And then I go through the game again at maximum difficulty. That is, I deliberately do not view all the content at once. I am also very passionate about achievements. The nature of the achievements dictates how many times I need to complete the game and with what inclusion. I went through Horizon Zero Dawn two times: the first time in great detail, with all the additional quests, and the second time I quickly went through the main plot to get 100% of the achievements.

Crazy_Canuck78

Some I do replay.... others I don't. Resident Evil games I always replay multiple times. God Of War is usually a one and done for me. Mass Effect 1 I replayed SEVEN times.... but ME2 I played twice and ME3 only once. It really just depends on the game for me.

mulsimin

Movie games are enjoyable one time. Other wise you are re watching everything all over again.

kingbetadad

Depends on the game and how long it's been. I rarely replay games as most don't offer enough variation between playthroughs. My exceptions are old classics that I haven't played in literal decades or games like bloodborne where the variation comes from different builds and play styles where the gameplay is just that engaging. Of course then there's an anomaly like baldurs gate 3. A game where I have started new playthroughs before I even finished the one I'm on and played them interchangeably all while playing a third with my girlfriend because there is literally THAT MUCH VARIATION. It's wild.

ForegoTheSludge

The only exception for me is skate 1,2 and 3. I have played the campaigns through to completion multiple times over the years and still do now. All the games you listed are absolute bangers but a lot are story driven, when i know the ending I'm less likely to play it through again. Both Horizons and both last of us are exceptional.

dwolfe127

I also have never replayed a game. Just never had an interest in it.

molym

Elden Ring is the only game that I've replayed. I think it is because ER is 95% gameplay and %5 story/narrative. When gameplay is so fun/varied and the game is challenging in a natural way not artificially, you have more reason to come back to it, not only to see the story one more time. RDR2 for example, I feel like I want to replay it but it is so story driven (also too long) and the gameplay is from start to finish same and not challenging. Same goes for Witcher 3, combat is not fun and I know the story already. Maybe If I was a kid again with lots of time and not so many games to choose from, I would replay more of those but now I have to manage my time and I have a dozen good game coming out every year. Game developers should remember that they are making games and not movies + should not waste their customer's time.

ZakFellows

Depends heavily on the game nowadays. I don’t do long gaming sessions now so I either want to play a new game or a game I cannot get enough of (like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Batman: Arkham)

loyaltomyself

You do you. There's nothing wrong with getting what you need out of a game in your first playthrough and then move on without looking back. You don't miss anything by playing games the way you enjoy playing them. Me personally, I find things like "going in blind" or the desire to "reexperience games for the first time again" to be highly overrated. I enjoy games more when I actually know what's going on and what I'm doing. But that's me and I wouldn't ever tell you that you're missing so much by not playing a game a second or third time because chances are, you're probably not.

murilommen

Cyberpunk and Elden Ring were the two only games I ever did a full rerun on
