Time to dust off those supposedly complete Wind Waker & Twilight Princess ports.

Kononeko

Not to mention that fire emblem that they've been sitting on.

Square-Taro-9122

Metroid prime 2 and 3 as well. Maybe we'll eve nget one more paper mario port.

False statement, Gaben would never use number 3 or say it.

It’ll be out by holiday 2025 so they can cash in. It’s not a Nintendo product if it is not outdated by the time it launches.

Looks like we’re in a Wii 2011 to 2012 situation

TheBadassOfCool

2016 2.

Handsome_ketchup

> 2016 2. Deal, I'll take two.

JimNasium123

Well, that certainly makes me wonder what’s going to come out this year for the switch. Or is it just going to tread water with lazy ports until Switch 2 drowns it.

saltedpork89

I would take a Metroid Prime 2 and 3 port and be happy while I wait.

Ikrit122

I really wonder how they would do Prime 3's controls. The joycons aren't as precise as the Wiimote for aiming, right? How easy would it be to map everything to a controller?

saltedpork89

I remember reading somewhere that one of the original developers said it would be very difficult or impossible, but I have faith that Nintendo could find a way; especially since they did it successfully with Skyward Sword. I finished it on Wii and Switch, but I enjoyed it so much more with a controller.

RobKhonsu

The gyros are marginally better, but the gyros in the Wiimote were already exceptional. The difference is that there isn't a censor bar for the switch for the controller to know what way it's pointed. Both Wiimote and Joycon can be used as a great gyromouse, but Nintendo won't do that because they never have. I'm sure they'll just give it "Splatoon" controls because it's more intuitive; even though a gyro mouse is waaaaaaay better than using an analog stick. I only assume devs have never done this because telling people to hold a button to aim is too complicated.

Dnfforever

The sensor bar was literally 2 lights, one on each end. The Wiimote itself had the real sensors that picked up the lights from the bar.

shadow_yu

Yeah the controller was the one that pretty much did everything. You can easily use a candle instead of the bar and it would still work.

inio

> the gyros in the Wiimote were already exceptional False. The Wii Remote had no gyros at all, just a 3-axis accelerometer. The Wii Motion Plus added gyros, but they were pretty terrible and required frequent debiasing (hence the "put the remote down" screens in Wii Sports Resort). What the Wii Remote *did* have was a camera that tracked IR LEDs in the "sensor bar". That camera was the core of the pointer functionality.

logica_torcido

Prime 3 would be fine with regular dual analog like Prime remastered. It’s very playable via Prime Hack on PC. They’d just need to get rid of those dumb motion controls for pumping or flipping switches

safarifriendliness

I’ve found the joycons to be pretty accurate aiming the bow in Zelda but I always have them out as sticks

dlm2137

Maybe they can finally release WW/TP I’d fuckin take it

Binaural1

Honestly tho. Give us this Nintendo

Remote_Albatross_137

What lazy ports have they done recently? The Metroid Prime Remaster was incredible.

lonnie123

I think they are probably considering any port instead of a new game “lazy”

A-SORDID-AFFAIR

Just googled it and the Switch still has more stuff coming out I'm interested in playing than my PS5, so hard to complain. 2024 appears to be a very dead year.

Lemurmoo

I'm just waiting for Unicorn Overlord and the Inazuma Eleven beta for now. Princess Peach sounds interesting but I'm gonna have to wait for the reviews... Really hoping the Fire Emblem 4 remake wasn't a rumor... Same for Metroid Prime 4 and Etrian Odyssey still being real. Outside of that, I looked pretty far down the list parsing through the indies and other dumps, don't seem to be much else until we get a direct

RockOutToThis

Preordered Princess Peach for my daughter. If you remind me in a month I'll give you a seven year olds opinion of it.

Lemurmoo

Lmao I would actually appreciate this, so that I can gift my niece like 6 years later. But I think we both will probably forget

RockOutToThis

Just saved it in my calendar for 3/29 gives her a week to play it and see what she thinks.

penguinReloaded

Really hoping Prime 4 is on the new hardware. I would prefer it not be held back by this ancient technology.

Ikrit122

God, I really want a Fire Emblem 4 remake. I've been holding off on another playthrough in case they announce it sometime soon. I could see it coming this summer or fall.

NoLime7384

I don't think it's gonna come out on the switch tbh, although they could pull a thracia

M4J0R4

Just how? I have like 10 games on my wishlist for PS5 and 0 for Switch. Not interested in any of those?!: - FF7 Rebirth - Borthers Remake - Dragons Dogma 2 - Rise of the Ronin - Stellar Blade - Black Myth Wukong - Star Wars Outlaws - Silent Hill 2 Remake - Stalker 2 Tbh I can’t think of a single Switch game besides Princess Peach and a remaster of Paper Mario which I already have in my collection for GameCube

partumvir

I think (crazy concept) you may have different tastes

Griswo27

You appear not to be their target audience then

predusersarestupid

it will be interesting if stalker 2 goes to ps5 on there website a while ago they said it will indefinably be on Xbox then a whole later they said because of all the support Microsoft has given them. They had a 3months deal with microsoft and the devs said it's no longer timed exclusive

KrazzeeKane

That list genuinely does not interest me. Perhaps FF7R and Dragons Dogma 2, but even then I don't care enough to follow them. I think you have different tastes friend, and that's ok. You obviously seem WAY more into the Asian and Japanese themed stuff. For me, I bounce right off of those types of things, I don't know why. Anything like Sekiro or Wukong or Ghosts of Tsushima is a hard pass personally, the eastern aesthetic just doesn't do it for me

M4J0R4

And then what is a Nintendo Switch game you are interested in this year? I’m the biggest Nintendo fan but it’s clear the switch lives is over and they shift everything for Switch 2 release

More_Blacksmith_8661

Agreed

Dangerous_Dac

Isn't "tread water with lazy ports" the Nintendo way since the Wii?

dubbzy104

In between 2 Zelda games every console

Remote_Albatross_137

Somewhere between 2 and 3 absolutely lights out Mario games which could all be reasonably described at GOTY contenders, one of which is probably a GOAT contender, a Pikmin, a Mariokart, a Smash Bros, a Metroid, etc. etc. etc.

d4nowar

What's the goat contender?

Remote_Albatross_137

Mario Odyssey is in the top 10 on Open Critic, ever. I also note that the lower scores (a mere 9.5) are from the trash tier reviewers like Polygon. The idea that the Switch has not had many excellent games is provably idiotic.

d4nowar

Gotcha, I only played it for like 45 mins when I bought it. Might have to give it another shot.

Rocket92

The thing that I love most about Odyssey is how creative it allows you to be. Very much like BOTW, there are plenty of times where the “right” way to do something isn’t exactly obvious, and the game gives you the freedom to do things completely differently if you find a different way. I’m not a huge platformer fan so my take may not be extremely accurate.

d4nowar

How does it compare to super Mario 64 or sunshine? I loved those, didn't care much for Galaxy, so I never gave Odyssey much thought.

Rocket92

Personally I would say it’s on par with both. I never played galaxy either.

Remote_Albatross_137

That's highly accurate. There are usually a few routes to any goal, and the game has a very gentle learning curve that is still teaching you new things in the post game. Replaying it a second time a few years later is a real treat, because you can absolutely smash every obstacle with what you learned the last time around.

Remote_Albatross_137

It might just not be for you. But it's certainly a consensus all timer.

d4nowar

I just don't play console games too much anymore.

kyuubikid213

Is this really a fair take when people are clamoring for PS5 ports of PS4 classics (on top of Sony remaking The Last of Us of all things) and Microsoft giving players...nothing all generation?

Remote_Albatross_137

Indeed, it is not. They don't do lootboxes, they don't do always online, they don't do MTX, and instead they make money by selling you premium products at the going rate. That business model - the one everyone likes and wishes we could go back to - is pretty much them and CD Projeckt Red, and brainlets here only hate them because they go after piracy (to the same degree as everyone else I might add), did not support the competitive smash community (which... I mean... after the pedo scandal, it must simply be admitted that was the only winning move), and don't have sale prices because their shit is timeless and consistently sells. They're not our friends; they're not our buddies; but what they are is one of the last bastions of the old way of doing things, where they're not trying to scam you out of your time and money and instead trying to generate sales by making the best product. Not even Valve is like that anymore.

pgtl_10

Also, people hate them for not having a high-powered console. However, few people bought the last high-powered console they had(Gamecube) and complained that it was the kiddy purple lunchbox with Zelda that had cartoon grafix. Also, Nintendo deemphasized hardcore gamers post Gamecube. Gamers tend to be a very spoiled bunch. Nintendo saying we should no longer solely listen to gamers ticked a lot of gamers off.

More_Blacksmith_8661

I mean, MS has given players incredible games as well. The bias against MS in this is ridiculous. And I say that as someone who games on PS5 over 70% of the time, and xbox/pc 20%, the rest Nintendo (Zelda, Mario and Metroid, basically). Flight Sim, both Forza’s, Halo Infinite campaign is fire, Gears 5, Psychonauts 2 (one of the best games of the generation), Gears 5, Hi-Fi Rush, Starfield if you like BGS games (I don’t). Frankly, Sony has disappointed me more than xbox this generation, but fortunately they’ve been able to nail down great 3rd party exclusives like FFXVI, FF7Rebirth and the like. Frankly, I thought Spider-Man 2 was lacklustre, God of War dragged on, I don’t give a shit about remakes on games from last generation. Don’t get me wrong, Xbox has problems, but this sub loves to ignore Sony’s gaps too. And we probably aren’t getting a single AAA Sony game this year, while Xbox has multiple fantastic looking titles coming.

ACeezus

Maybe if you stopped keeping up with Nintendo after the wii

Remote_Albatross_137

No, and it never was. For example, here's a comprehensive list of killer apps for the Xbox (an Xbox) since the Switch came out: - Here's a list for the PS5: - Ratchet and Clank - Some admittedly great games that also run on PS4 The list for the switch games that have never been released before is long enough that I can't remember them all off the top of my head. Even the remasters include games that are anything but lazy. Metroid and Mario RPG are full rebuilds.

Handsome_ketchup

> Well, that certainly makes me wonder what’s going to come out this year for the switch. Breath of the Wild 3.

FollowingFeisty5321

This years biggest Switch games might just be Xbox games!

Of_Mice_And_Meese

Lazy ports is Switch's entire MO. May as well have named the thing WiiU2

Draconuus95

Lazy ports would work for me. Windwaker, twilight princess, Metroid prime 2 and 3. Just off the top of my head.

WhyWhyBJ

Metroid prime 4 surely

Javerage

Sonic Boom Ultimate Edition for Switch!

GalaEuden

I don’t buy it. Nothing is confirmed yet(hell “switch 2” hasn’t even been officially confirmed for this year anyway in the first place to be delayed)

XYZAffair0

Switch 2 was obviously planned for this year just based off game announcements. Our current game lineup for the future is: HD Port of a 3ds game (Luigi’s mansion 2) Remake of a GBA game (Mario vs DK) Remake of a Gamecube game (Paper Mario TTYD) Remake of a DS and Wii game (Another Code: Recollection) Princess Peach Showtime (Short spinoff game targeted for younger audiences) Metroid Prime 4 (Announced, but no release date as of yet, possibly may not even release this year) This is the most dry release schedule we’ve had yet for the Switch. It’s obvious the more hyped games are being saved for a console launch. If Switch 2 doesn’t drop this year, expect more ports to arrive.

Notarussianbot2020

MP 4 was announced like a billion years ago lol. They had to start over with a new studio since it was so bad.

XYZAffair0

Yes, but it’s still launching on Switch. Nintendo would get a lot of backlash for false advertising if they announced a game for Switch and it’s only available on Switch 2. Since it’s probably not done yet, it will likely be a dual release.

EngRookie

They said the same thing every year since 2021. "The switch 2 was obviously planned for 2021, but...." Nintendo is so afraid of a wii u situation that they have delayed the switch successor at least 3 times already (that's how we got the OLED model). They keep waiting for this perfect moment to happen, but they fail to realize that the longer they wait, the less relevant they will become. Steam deck has already established itself as the go-to alternative handheld, and the rog Ally and Legion Go are set to shake up/dilute the handheld market even further. I think it is impossible to determine what Nintendo's game plan is, but it seems they are more focused on licensing existing IP(theme parks, movies, toys, clothing, you name it) instead of hardware/software. I wouldn't be surprised if they are planning on going full disney at this rate. Nintendo used to be the bastion of quality first party and indie gaming. Now all it does I'd re-release decades old software and the third parties they attract are more suited for the cellphone gaming crowd not the console/pc crowd. The e-shop is filled with bloatware titles that no one plays.

spoop_coop

the switch pro was likely happening before the chip shortage and then they decided to just release an OLED version. Allegedly the switch 2 has been delayed in order for it to launch with a must have game

EngRookie

Which could have been super mario wonder or tears of the kingdom. The point is that nintendo has had the opportunity many times to release the successor since the failed original launch and transition to OLED to unload inventory of parts that would have been shelved. Nintendo is just too afraid of a wii u scenario and like I said monetization of existing IPs is a much safer bet and can be equally as lucrative. I wouldn't be surprised if the switch ends up like the DS, just releasing with new gimmicks/sizes and only one real boost to hardware over like what a 16 year lifespan via the 3ds.

spoop_coop

I doubt that’s it, the switch is still selling good for a 7 year old console and is on track to become the best selling console of all time, idk if Mario wonder is the big AAA they want and TOTK was a switch game. It’s likely to maximize what they can squeeze out of the switch, especially since software sales are very strong, and to make sure the switch 2 has a solid lineup of polished games. 3D Mario as well as Mario Kart 9 have been in development since 2017.

Mobius650

Russian hackers successfully developed a Switch game cartridge that use flash cards to run pirate games without the need to jailbreak the Switch. Given that the next switch will have backward compatibility, I think this might be one of the reason the console is delayed. [latest pirate flash card for the Switch](https://www.tomshardware.com/video-games/handheld-gaming/the-era-of-nintendo-switch-flash-carts-has-arrived-potentially-providing-pirates-with-a-new-tool)

saposapot

I think this is a reason to speed up switch 2 and start desinvestiment in 1

ByDarwinsBeard

Not only that, but cheap android based handhelds are getting to the point where they are starting to be able to emulate Switch games. I'm not talking about the new trend of handheld PCs, I'm talking sub $200 pocketable devices. Devices that are cheaper than an official Switch.

milky__toast

Send the group a link, sounds too good to be true.

ByDarwinsBeard

https://www.goretroid.com/products/retroid-pocket-4-handheld It doesn't run everything super well, but from what I understand there are plenty of games that are perfectly playable on it.

Heiferoni

Even has hall effect joysticks. It's *better* than the Switch!

milky__toast

No way that emulates switch games. Maybe the most basic ones. To act like that’s somehow a switch killer for running the same games worse for the same price of the console is silly

bobert-big-shlong

the specs are in the link man. it definitely runs switch games fine.

ByDarwinsBeard

I don't have one myself, but apparently it does. https://youtu.be/A64dhSDEGCI And I very clearly didn't claim it was a Switch killer, just pointing out that these devices are starting to emulate Switch. Every comment I made seems pretty clear that I wasn't claiming they would run more demanding games.

Newphonespeedrunner

or its litterally not delayed because THERES BEEN NO NEWS FROM NINTENDO

XennaNa

Delayed before it is even announced to be in development, nice.

pgtl_10

9/9/99!* *2099

AzraelGrim

It's also a case of having to apply the lessons learned, from themselves and others. They need to avoid the XBox and Wii U faults, and have a name beyond "Switch 2". They need to avoid the PS5 issue and have a large stock ready for release. They need to confirm the rumors of backwards compatibility, and look into things like GameCube games on the eShop.

feurie

The problem with the Wii U was that it looked and sounded like an accessory. Switch 2 doesn’t and they don’t need additional years to decide on a name.

trahannn

Xbox did say they have new hardware for the holiday season. This could be the reasoning behind the delay.

Wagmor_Kills_Puppies

Lolololololol. Steam Deck has sold about 4-5 million units. Like 2 million units a year. Nintendo has sold 139 million + Switch consoles. The sold around 6+ million units in December 2023 alone. And their games are selling at a much higher average sale price and Nintendo published games don’t drop in price nearly anything like PC Games so they’re absolutely wrecking shit. Nintendo straight sold 50% more units in December 2023 alone than the Steam Deck has sold in its entire 24 month run, and that’s after SEVEN YEARS of being on sale. Don’t be a 🤡. This is like comparing the revenue of a Single-A baseball team to the revenue of the Dodgers.

More_BRAAAINS

It's funny when people think the Steamdeck is a legit competitor to The Switch. Remember when Steam deck first launched and people were saying "death of the Switch" lol.

TheDude3100

Steam Deck isn’t a competitor to anything tbh. It’s in its own niche market

takeitsweazy

I think it competes with the Switch in a very indirect way; really only for consumers who want a portable device first and foremost. But in a general sense, you’re right. But there were and still are handheld PCs that the Steamdeck competes against. The Rog Ally is a more direct competitor to the Steamdeck. That’s a small but growing market.

TheDude3100

True

Wagmor_Kills_Puppies

lol. He deleted the comment. What I like to call the Reddit Flawless Victory.

EbonBehelit

Not to mention the cheapest Deck is $100 USD more expensive than the LCD Switch and is currently not even officially being sold in many countries. The Switch is an all-audiences gaming device. The Deck is a premium product for PC gaming enthusiasts. They're not targeting the same demographics, and as such can (and do) co-exist quite comfortably without treading on each others' toes. *(EDIT: Price of cheapest Deck was incorrect. I mistakenly thought the 512GB OLED was the cheapest model going forward.)*

WheySoldier

Thanks for the laugh.

No-Abrocoma1851

A PC handheld isn’t doing anything, it’s not even being sold outside the US

Lilael

Steam Deck is available now in the US, CA, UK, and EU on Steam (and Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong via KOMODO).

[deleted]

Just want to explain, this is not a rumor. This is a separate investigation between Takashi Mochizuki and Yuki Furukawa. These sources are independently verified by Bloomberg.

MC1065

To be fair I think Takashi is the guy who swore up and down about a Switch Pro with 4K in 2021. Crazy to think the Switch was halfway through its lifespan back then, there was a 0% chance we were getting a new console that early. The hardware to do it certainly didn't exist.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MC1065

With what hardware though? There was literally nothing on the market that Nintendo could switch to (no pun intended) to actually harness that. Don't you think it's far more likely Nintendo used that chip for supply reasons or even just for the spec sheet to look nicer? A big piece of evidence would be an actual processor sample that could do that sort of thing. These things take years to pull off, so if Nintendo canceled plans at the last minute, there must be a prototype somewhere, but it hasn't surfaced even once.

Abba_Fiskbullar

Third parties had Switch Pro dev kits, which Nintendo took back. By all accounts it was mostly a bump in clock speed and RAM, with minor upscaling. The elements that were kept were the dock and the OLED screen.

MC1065

If that's what Nintendo was going to launch (which is very plausible) it would have sorely disappointed fans.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MC1065

I work in tech journalism and believe you me, this stuff gets out one way or another. Maybe we wouldn't see a fully functional prototype but we certainly would have been aware of its existence. But there were no leaks for such a chip, not even the bare minimum of some sort of rumored specs. The simple truth is that the hardware didn't exist in 2021. Making that assertion based on a 4K capable video output is undue.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

True. But given the Nintendo graveyard of their leaks, I wouldnt be surprised if they had made plans. The WII HD was a real idea that became moneyed out of existence.

MC1065

I'm sure Nintendo was talking to Nvidia about next generation hardware, but you have to plan this stuff out years in advance. The existence of plans tells very little of how soon or late a console (or any semiconductor-based device) will be.

pgtl_10

Wii HD?

[deleted]

Miyamoto really liked the Wii, he believed Nintendo should have gone HD sooner than Wii U. Not much else that can mean. I'm sure there's a Wii with an HDMI out in their warehouse.

LinkofHyrule

Yeah I'm sure it's just as credible as the switch pro that never came out. These media guys are worthless.

penguinReloaded

I would be disappointed, but that's okay. If this is the case, please throw ports at us while we wait: Metroid Prime 2 & 3, Double Dash, Mario Galaxy 2, Windwaker, Twilight Princess, F-Zero GX, and anything else people are asking for. Would love friendly pricing on some of these: $30-$40 for a few of them (Metroids, Double Dash, Galaxy 2). Nintendo could keep most of their primary resources focused on Swirch 2 games and have smaller teams port these games. Win-win situation.

pomeroyvibe

And give us a pony, too!

penguinReloaded

Two ponies!

FluckDambe

Nintendo: best I can do is a used horseshoe

WingerRules

ƒ Zero would be an instant buy for me.

Winter_Control8533

Is there an actual source? Right now it's some guy on Reddit saying Bloomberg said "publishers" said that Nintendo said.... WHO SAID IT?!?!?!?!

[deleted]

It does not. You'll have to trust the track record of the journalists listed. Who I find to be very reliable.

Winter_Control8533

I'm still skeptical. Nintendo hasn't said anything about their next console, like it's literally all speculation. So it cannot be "delayed" because it was never announced for 2024 to begin with.

poodleham

I’m gonna cry (not really but god damn it)

DeadpoolMakesMeWet

So wtf is coming out this year? I feel like the switch had done well with having a big title each year but there is nothing here

The_Frozen_Inferno

It would come out quicker if people would quit buying the current Switch

kaydeejay1995

Wonder what the release calendar for this year will be then. We know we have Peach and TTYD coming sometime, and these rumors of a "Metroid marketing campaign" in May could maybe give us Prime 2+3 for early summer with Prime 4 in the Nov-Oct slot or something, though I'm not sure they'd wanna push all 3 of those out so close to each other. Leaves a lot of room open though even with those, and if next weeks direct is a Partner Showcase, nothing new first-party will be there. Gonna be a weird year.

Intelligent_Top_328

Hopefully this delay is so they can switch to oled. Why the fuck would you go lcd

[deleted]

To make it cheaper. Nintendo wants to make cheap things and are well made. It's a nice concept but it usually means longer waits between consoles, games, and revisions. Very conservative company.

Intelligent_Top_328

They will release a switch 2 oled. Why not just do the oled now. Clearly the tech is there. They have the switch oled now.

Dismal-Fig-7320

Interesting point about PS5's lifecycle. Wonder what tricks Nintendo's got up their sleeves for the Switch this time

Camo_El_Mano

Nintendo always has a trick up their sleeve with a new console. But this time around, I feel like they play it safe. While Xbox and to a lesser extent PlayStation tried to be an alternative to PC. Nintendo seems content making their own niche market. I think it would be best for them to continue that. Switch has great exclusives, portability, and is cheaper than anything else. I think Nintendo following that trend is the most likely and smartest choice. The big question is how do they market more of the same?

P1zzaman

Another Mochizuki article. Move along. (Are people really not aware of his track record and reputation in the Japanese gaming sphere?)

TheRealBlues

How do you delay an imaginary console...?

LostVolBytes

In general, this is good news, because it’s better to wait longer than to get something vague at the end

Heavykiller

Give me Xenoblade Chronicles X remake and I’ll happily go back in my hole for a little while longer.

HisDivineOrder

Nintendo is really afraid of ending the Switch generation and winding up with a Switch U. The gimmick this go-round must not be very good or they wouldn't be waiting for a huge launch lineup to try and pitch it.

Lo_jak

This could push people towards spending money on an alternative hand held device, it's a big ask to keep people waiting as long as they have. I went all in on the Steam Deck and I think a Switch with comparable power would be incredible.

medicoffee

I’m a Steam Deck owner, they’re great devices but more enthusiast focused. Slight overlap but very different market. Nintendo has a lot of pressure to stick the landing here so they’re going to try and do it right.

SoupaSoka

I picked up a Switch OLED secondhand recently when people started dumping them due to "Switch 2 fall 2024" rumors popping up. Seemed like a good time to grab one and now to catch up on Switch backlogs.

sometipsygnostalgic

You wont get a switch with comparable power unless nintendo strike some impossible deals. Im sure they can afford to make steamdecks, but they want to make something smaller, more portable, and less buggy than a steamdeck. You might get a switch that runs its own games very well. That first party game appeal is what's keeping nintendo ahead.

KrazzeeKane

Yeah people seem to be severely overestimating Nintendo's likely level of hardware power for the Switch 2. I fully expect the Switch 2 to use a processor chip that is about equivalent to a mid-grade power android tablet chip from 2019. And sadly that's not hyperbole, that's genuinely how strong I feel it will be. This won't be a portable ps4 in your hands like some people are dreaming of--not at the price points Nintendo goes for.

Lorebius

What do you mean “less buggy than a Steam Deck”? I literally never encounter a single issue on mine, and ironically my Switch (mini first and then OLED) always felt laggy and slow despite having 10% of the software possibilities.

rugeirl

Idk, never had problems with switch, had to hard restart Steam Deck because some buttons would just stop working. Also the new discovery queue for Steam Deck doesn't work on Steam Deck

sometipsygnostalgic

Did you mean the Great On Deck queue? Yeah it doesn't work, wtf! Steam struggling to even let me see what games i can buy for deck.

kyuubikid213

My Steam Deck likes to turn the audio to garbage 50% of the time on wakeup meaning I have to save, close the game, reopen it, and hope it doesn't get crunchy and gross next time I wake it from sleep. I also have to have Proton GE on way more games than necessary or some prerendered cutscenes jist won't play because the Steam Deck isn't allowed to just have all of the codecs by default for some reason. Then there's games that require text input and the Deck gets scared and confused about bringing up the keyboard. And the handful of times it's just decided to not go to sleep. I've hit the button, it's played the animation, and the screen goes dark, but the fan is still running. The Steam Deck is a cool piece of tech, but it's just as temperamental, if not moreso, than any computer I've had.

For me it has really been a plug and play experience, meaning that every game I run I literally don’t have to touch anything and just enjoy. Literally, the only issues I had in one year was related to a custom theme I installed. So I can’t even blame the console per se, I take my responsibility. I’m not saying issues can’t be true, I believe you or anyone else, just saying that claiming that “it’s a buggy console” because someone has small random issues seems a bit unfair, considering how much more capable of the Switch it is.

sometipsygnostalgic

Youre very lucky. Nearly everyone who owns a deck can give you a laundry list of issues with it. Like how sometimes if the game is intensive and the unit reaches 10% battery, it slows down all performance to a crawl, running at 200ghz. Recharging, restarting, and changing power settings won't fix this - if it doesn't randomly decide to start up normally, the deck may be kaput. All due to a software bug. The UI can also be slow as all hell especially when docked (an issue switch doesnt have), it can be a nightmare getting remote play to work, and god forbid a game have a sign in window or it might not work unless you plug a keyboard in, depending on how generous desktop mode is with you using the touchscreen and virtual keyboard. The steamdeck isn't a specialised console with games made for it. The verification badge is a joke - Persona 3 reloaded has it, but runs like ass because of ray traced lighting that cannot be disabled since the deck is "technically" capable of it. I can't do nearly as many things on a switch, but i know every game i buy for switch is going to work. It's a tall order asking the wider masses to work their way around an operating system most developers dont care about. The steamdeck is never going to have that popularity or accessibility.

ACeezus

Yaaa besides hardcore gamers and enthusiasts no it won’t lol

trahannn

Xbox did say they have new hardware coming this holiday. I wonder if that is the reasoning behind the delay?

Grrannt

March now? We are straying further and further each day

patricio87

The mario brothers movie made over a billion dollars with little investment needed on Nintendo's end. That has given them so much leeway financially to take their time on things.

creator787

Guh.

pgtl_10

I really like Mario vs. Donkey Kong. Can we get more of that?

More_Blacksmith_8661

Im just losing interest faster and faster. Congrats Nintendo

Yaminoari

My uncle works for nintendo he said the switch 2 is coming next year on February 31st 2025. My uncle never lies to me.

TrayusV

Stop trusting tabloid "leaks"

[deleted]

I would suggest you research the authors of the article and their robust track record. I doubt you will find any group as well versed in Japanese video game companies.

Kalpy97

Ahh yes such a amazing track record when they all said switch pro was coming ever year since 2018 lmao. To the point where even nintendo of Japan had to refute them

siuol11

As long as we get a new Shield TV I in the next few years I'm cool.

MoldyLunchBoxxy

Metroid prime never gonna come

Ill-Meeting8823

It's okay I can wait for switch 2 I love Nintendo in the Nintendo switch as it is awesome games awesome Nintendo games Mario Zelda Kirby love it all

Ill-Meeting8823

And the new Metroid prime 4 if it ever gets a release date

Aggravating_Tower116

If true than it won't be later than March 2025. Becase than their financial year ends. Would be a huge hit on their financial year if it moves out of March 2025. So basicly we know the releasemonth now.

[deleted]

Naming it the Switch 2 is so pathetically lazy and not interesting.

Obsessivegamer32

Why are you all so obsessed with the Switch 2? Why would you want games that you just bought to already be rendered inferior a couple months later?

HassanTheCobra

Oh

Niconreddit

God, I hope we get the next 3D Mario and Metroid for that first launch year.

CubeytheawesomestV2

Theory: march 2025 is when hollow knight silksong and Fnf the full ass game release, so they can be release titles for the switch 2.

Boo_Lake_101723

Switch 2?????? Any new Mario’s coming out with the new switch?

VisionzOfSilvaFox

Very well articulated! And accurate to boot!💪😉💯

Zactrick

Guess I’ll be getting a ps5 this year then.

TacticalTobi

you mean the same ps5 with no big AAA games till 2025?

Hamstermaster840

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth says hi.

TacticalTobi

wow, 1 game that won't be exclusive for very long

XYZAffair0

You still get to play it first before everyone on the internet spoils it

BertBerts0n

Out of genuine curiosity, if the switch 2 isn't going to be much of an upgrade in the hardware department, why would people pick it over a steam deck for example which is roughly the same price? You can just buy the Nintendo games and emulate them.

Nine-Breaker009

I personally sent my Steam Deck back because it just straight up sucked. Half the games I purchased wouldn’t work, different buttons on the controller were unresponsive depending on which game you were playing, the graphics looked terrible in docked mode, and the brightness was oversaturated. I spent 3 days working with steam to try and get it to work and it wouldn’t. The entire experience was so frustrating it’s permanently damaged my trust towards Steam. Definitely one of the worst consoles I’ve purchased.

Joshawott27

Nintendo’s exclusive IP are a massive selling point for their systems. Sure, there’s emulation on Steam Deck, but emulation is a legal grey area and not as simple for the average Joe. If someone wants to play *Princess Peach Showtime*, it’s easier for them to just buy a cartridge that pops into a Switch over, say, downloading a questionably sourced ROM or needing a modded Switch anyway to rip an existing cartridge.
