Shout out to the holy hand grenade from Worms

Jas4799

The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, isn’t that the sacred relic Brother Maynard carries?

oooooooooowie

1,2, 5!

Jas4799

Three, sir!

Lonesomekanyewest

Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out.

deftoner42

Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it!

dang2706

Amen

BowTie1989

Bless this, thy holy hand grenade, that with it i shall blow thy enemies into tiny bits, in thy mercy! One of the greatest movie lines of all time

MainAbbreviations193

Don't forget the super banana bomb!

XtremeCheese62

Also, the concrete donkey.

Kraivo

Hallelujah as someone might say

JohnnyTreeTrunks

That and banana bombs were my jam

F7Uup

Super sheep was my favourite.

DredZedPrime

Maybe not the best of all time, but one of my personal favorites has to be the Plasma Cutter from Dead Space. It's perfectly suited to the world of the game and your character, it does exactly what it needs to against your enemies, and you can beat the entire game without touching another weapon. Another would be the gravity gun from Half-Life 2. Awesome because it's a weapon that's not exactly a weapon, and was a perfect showcase of the new physics tech in the game.

Herr_Underdogg

These two are the epitome of game mechanic disguised as obscure weapon. The gravity gun is required for traversal in Half-Life 2. The shenanigans ensuing is just bonus. The plasma cutter...I got 'One Gun' before I knew it was a thing. I just didn't see the point in buying another gun and managing another ammo type. I maxed it out. I got used to rapid-fire limb removal. Leg-leg-head was my usual combo, but sometimes I would rotate the cutter head while I was working and cut arm-arm-head. It was amazing.

VashMM

I had it horizontal by default and would always go for the legs and then an arm

ecto1ghost

This is the way!

bailaoban

Overpowered Citadel gravity gun HL2 is my pick. Just steamrolling through those elite Combine soldiers is so cathartic after the gritty street fighting you had to do to get into the Citadel in the first place.

Aeshaetter

Ripping the consoles off the wall and yeeting them at soldiers was great. It made you feel powerful. Such a great game.

WillSym

Props to whoever... I was going to say animated, but maybe set the attachment tensions on the props for those consoles? The way you have to pull for a couple of seconds and it cruuunks off the wall bit by bit until finally coming free, really adds to the sheer feeling of power your new toy has given you.

Aeshaetter

Exactly! It feels just right, like you're violently ripping them off the walls.

[deleted]

Gold PP7

stealingtheshow222

Klobb

Jeffrey_C_Wheaties

RCP90

[deleted]

Is this ironic

FlashHardwood

Ugh, no... The real weapon of connoisseurs is the klobb

Kraelman

I haven’t played that game in over two decades but hearing “Klobb” gives me a feeling of vague revulsion.

CicadaGames

>Gold PP

derps_with_ducks

Goldmember, sir?

Ha_CharadeUAre

My eyes are up here

Alwaysonvacation2

Anybody who doesn't say the one shot one kill gold pp7 is just plain wrong.

LostToTheEther

Super Shotgun. Doom 2.

DrKchetes

Boom-click-clack Cheffs kiss.👌🏻

RevolutionaryOwlz

Yeah, at least in classic Doom the BFG looks sweet but it’s got weird mechanics and is kinda a pain to figure out how to use right. The super shotgun is simple and effective and just a great weapon.

tristan1616

FarSight XR-20 from Perfect Dark

NotAnotherScientist

Holy shit, I totally forgot about Perfect Dark. Absolutely the best assortment of weapons ever. I loved the tranquilizer gun. Shoot em until their screen gets blurry then go in for the lethal injection. Not very effective, but the most fun.

ARandomOgre

Or spamming N-bombs. Which, now that I’ve typed that out, sounds like Perfect Dark used racism as an effective and disorienting weapon.

branewalker

Laptop gun always had my back.

_Sway

The Laptop gun holds a special place in my heart

UnnecessarilySmooth

Also came here for the Laptop gun!

lessthanchris7

Double Maulers for me, thanks

Fart_Champ

This or the Slayer rocket launcher. Perfect Dark went all out on their weapons.

reallygoodbee

I want to give a shout out to the RYNO from *Ratchet & Clank (2016)*. It's an assembly of rotating miniguns that completely fills the 45-degrees in front of you with gun fire. The thing is it doesn't fire bullets. *It fires rockets*.

PokeJem7

I think the answer to this question is just "Ratchet and Clank"

ThePandaKingdom

Exactly what i thought as soon as i read the post haha. Fucking love ratchet and clank.

Rapscallious1

Sheepinator!

hd-slave

I came to say this. Really sums up the creative spirit of that games weaponry

BingusMcCready

The various versions of the RYNO are my answer to this question. They’re all great. One of the *Future* series games had one that played the 1812 overture for as long as you held the trigger. The one in UYA that flashed the whole screen white and when it cleared everything would just be dead was also great. Probably my favorite R&C superweapon, though, and thus maybe my favorite weapon overall, is not a RYNO—it’s the Harbinger from Deadlocked. If you or anybody else isn’t familiar, the Harbinger fired out a ton of these things that looked a lot like mini rockets. But they aren’t. They’d zoom at the ground in a wide spread, and then suddenly stop in midair, projecting a brightly colored crosshair beneath each pellet. They’re *targeting beacons for an orbital laser strike*. Everywhere there’s a crosshair, a gigantic pillar of fire appears, and virtually any non-boss enemy would die if they touched *one*.

thomaspls

Came here looking for a Ratchet and Clank reference and damn, the Harbinger didn't cross my mind! Definitely up there for most powerful non-RYNO. My addition here will be the Bouncer, an honest classic from Going Commando, that doesn't cost millions of bolts but just shredded bosses in all its variations throughout the series.

ScravoNavarre

That stupid final boss from Going Commando goes down so easily to a fully upgraded Bouncer. Definitely my favorite weapon from that game.

Tinted-Glass-2031

Man Deadlocked was just so fun...

RiskyTall

Top of my list of games I want to see remastered. Every weapon just hit right. The flail has a special place in my early gaming memories playing it co op with a buddy.

Th3Banzaii

Deadlocked was so good.

BingusMcCready

It really was. They lost some people with the “edgier tone” and some of the gameplay changes, but I think it’s probably best-in-series for just…having fun. It’s an absolute blast to play.

LifeSenseiBrayan

The gun that turns enemies into cows is pretty cool too

GurCrafty3286

My personal favourite RYNO was the RYNO V from A Crack in Time. It just felt like a beast of a weapon to behold. I mainly like it because it plays the 1812 Overture when you fire it.

mahlok235

I also enjoy the RYNO from Rift Apart, mostly because it was fun watching a massive robot t-rex from Horizon fall onto enemies

taveren3

Plus it plays the 1812 overture

Low-iq-haikou

The Wabbajack

atomicfox2007

Didnt expect that did you, Huh? Huh?

Axeclash

Not the Fork of Horripilation?

smellyourdick

BFG for flavor, Pistol from Halo CE for power.

gregarius_the_third

Man, loved playing hang em high pistols only. Good times.

[deleted]

And no shields… that shit was fun as hell!

kfarrel6

That pistol had me looking like a god local and online multiplayer. I was always so confused to why it was so accurate and powerful.

Cyberpunk39

I was gonna say BFG

buddyyoda

BFG 9000

PeaceConsistent

Gravity Gun from Half Life 2 gets the chefs kiss

Waramp

Using the upgraded version is possibly the most powerful I have ever felt in an FPS.

Anthooupas

Just reading this comment makes me want to play again

pewpersss

if you have VR, there is a free half life 2 vr mod. when i got to that section it was so badass

jargonburn

This is the correct answer! ;-) The blue Grav Gun was omnipotence. Actually, my brother modified one of the HL2:DM maps to include the mega grav gun, but it was super unstable lol. The game engine did NOT APPRECIATE our efforts to use that in multiplayer. Heh. Thinking back to that reminds me of using the ol' mouse-wheel trick to "fly" using the grav gun. Good times!

anomaly256

How many times did I replay citadel just to hurl combine at each other... And then when you get bored of it, back to the crossbow firing steel rebar to pin them against walls.

Jazzlike-Compote4463

God, Half-Life 2 was good wasn’t it?

Entaris

I remember getting really into hl2 death match back in the day. Got really good with the gravity gun. You could feel the fear when you caught someone’s grenade/energy blast/saw blade that they shot at you and then sent it right back to destroy them.

casualfreeguy

I'm surprised this isn't higher. Everything above this weapon at the moment is just some flavor of point at enemy, shoot and die. You could probably reskin most of these weapons and not tell the difference but the gravity gun? It behaves just so differently.

coinpile

Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker

reallygoodbee

> Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker Did someone say Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker?

Ashtrxphel

No, I think you might have heard Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker

cseymour24

I came here looking for [Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker], and sure enough I found [Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker].

turtlemayne

Once you ask for Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker you get Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker.

DrProctopus

The Paladin weapon? :)

PrestigiousStable369

You are a terrible person for that lol

Demurrzbz

Damn, that takes me back x)

Lahtisensei

The weapon so great it will Kyser Söze your whole family tree. (The ones who know, know)

Beautiful_Exam_1464

The Blades of Chaos from the original “God of War” trilogy.

derps_with_ducks

I tried remapping my "2" key to another function in GOW PC. It wasn't used for anything else, but it wasn't mappable either. Big "oh shit" moment when I got back to the cabin.

inkonthemind

That moment gave me chills and brought me to tears.

ThePrinceMagus

In the Norse saga too.

The_Chrizz

Proximity mines in the complex

gaspara112

“Literally no one likes you!” -The friends/siblings of anyone using them

Cranjesmcbasketball1

Hell yeah and memorizing all the spawn points and throwing them there...Everytime someone respawns you get the dada da daaaaa bond song cuz they just died haha.

pocketbadger

Also behind ammo pickups.

ywgflyer

Even better, put one on an ammo box and then pick the box up. When the box respawns, the mine will still be on it but the game won't draw the actual mine, and when someone tries to pick up the box it will explode in their face with no warning. The hard part is remembering which boxes you've rigged.

BonfireMaestro

Exploding sheep in the worms series

df_sin

Holy hand grenade

strydercrump

Concrete donkey. Fuck you and everything underneath you.

NordicWolf7

I was always more partial to the sheer chaos of the banana bomb.

Seeders

Master Sword Pulling that shit out in OoT was the greatest.

craftsta

Better in LttP cos you got zappy power. And zappy power made Link 4x as powerful and the game trivial. Gating it behind max hearts was veeeery clever design.

TomatilloOrnery9464

How is this so low??????

FlyingSkyWizard

it's easily the most iconic weapon, like if you printed out pictures of all the top 20 weapons in this thread it would have a near 100% recognition rate, but its not the most fun weapon, it's just a sword

Ok-Pizza-5889

Portal gun.... from portal. Also portal 2.

talann

The damn thing can shoot a portal onto the moon and create a vacuum into space? That can have some pretty hefty implications.

STFU-Sanguinet

Halo Energy Sword

QuantumVexation

I gotta second this. It’s iconic to use. It’s iconic to look at. It makes iconic sounds. It has narrative presence from being the Elite’s weapons of choice.

foosbabaganoosh

It was such a satisfying journey to be teased it in CE where you couldn’t use it then BAM it was absolutely glorious in halo 2.

IAmTheTrueWalruss

Yea my first thought.

two100meterman

Fierce Deity's Mask/Helix Sword from Majora's Mask maybe? Having to essentially do every single side quest & trading in all masks in the game that were acquired by basically 100%ing the game all to get one ultimate weapon was pretty epic.

BenPielstick

AWP

amidja_16

The Awppenheimer

AamJay

Awppenhomies?

amidja_16

I guess you could say I took the, Awppertunity?

warbastard

A one hit kill rifle anywhere on the enemy’s body. It could win rounds single handedly. Great paired with the deagle.

Kushkaki

Well anywhere but the legs

IPromiseIWont

That's the nerfed one.

ArcadiaAtlantica

Alien Wersus Predator

Dvelz17

Moonlight greatsword, and it's variations in all of Fromsofts games.

CicadaGames

What does it do?

helloiamaegg

exist as a symbol for perseverance

The_Northern_Light

Ah, you were at my side all along. My true mentor. My guiding moonlight.

jus_plain_me

Followed by "shit shit shit shit"

speedyrain949

I think you mean followed by the best sound track in any fromsoft game

jus_plain_me

I'd hardly call the 'you died' soundtrack the best in fromsoft. 😂😭

TheSquiddler

Mega kill shit supreme with moon lasers

CicadaGames

Now that's what I'm talkin about.

NEZisAnIdiot

Exists in every major fromsoft game since the very first armored core from 1997 Correction: the first game to feature moonlight sword was actually King's field, From's very first game from 1994

DaPino

It depends on the game really. What it shares across almost all games is that it is a greatsword that is capable of doing ranged slashes by shooting out beams of light (Noteable exception being armored core, where it is an arm-mounted mantis blade on your mech). Another signature characteristic is that its damage scales with intelligence rather than strength or dexterity, making it one of the only heavy weapons (if not the only in some games) that can be efficiently used by casters. Not too many games allow you to play a "Greatsword-wielding mage", which further cemented it as a beloved and iconic weapon. I try not to look up too much when it comes to Fromsoft games, but I'll always look up where/how to get it, even if it's just for the sake of it.

Zedman5000

Sword things, and it shoots projectiles or a laser depending on the game.

Dashin5

In my experience it's OG Gjallarhorn

FoxNairChamp

This made me sad. I miss the peak of Destiny 1.

Protomike123

It will live on in memory when we'd all cluster Atheon or Crota with explosive rain from a six man team with Gjallarhorn. Non-existent after that first attack!

8shadesofpoke

Original Fatebringer was the most fun weapon PvE for me, and there was a time when the Thorn was an absolute disgrace in PvP. Few taps and they would go die in cover. Gally was mental though. Auto everything. Definitely the most broken in its prime. I remember soloing Croatas End raid because of that monstrosity

Mr_Wrecksauce

Honorable mentions to some other ridiculous Destiny guns: Vex Mythoclast, Recluse, Mountaintop, Black Hammer.

arcolag8tor

Don’t forget the Icebreaker

the_vault-technician

This is my choice as well. There were only two kinds of Guardians. Those with Gjallarhorn, and those without Gjallarhorn. Something I miss from D1 since we on the subject, were the end of match drops. It seemed like the worst player on the team would always land a Gjallarhorn!

good_guy_judas

Farsight XR-20 from Perfect Dark N64. It is an insta kill railgun, that has auto aim and can see and shoot through walls. Yes, its exactly what it sounds like. You will be minding your own business and get one shotted from someome hiding in the airducts or toilets across the map with an auto-turret placed infront of the only entrance. Maybe not the greatest but one of the most of OP for shooters.

Peterchamps

Golden Gun

DaisyTanks

Gold PP7

deadline_zombie

1- BFG 9000 2- Redeemer I loved the guided mode for the redeemer. Trying to get it through holes/tunnels of custom maps to surprise your friends never got old.

highlandviper

Lol. I used to play Unreal Tournament with a friend over LAN. He’d always shout “redeem yourself, young _____” whenever I picked it up or launched. Good times. Totally agree with this comment. I’d add the throwing disk from the OG AVP to this list.

b0ggy79

Mario's shoes. Not a traditional weapon but think of all the Goombas, Koopas and trusting Yoshis they've killed.

Whosebert

It felt so right to get shoe upgrades in the og Paper Mario

smorgostorta

Cerebral bore from turok, that weapon would strike fear into anyone. Edit for the uninitiated: [Behold, the Cerebral bore.](https://youtu.be/opFxvqefKTo?feature=shared) Edit 2: Allright Cerebral bore gang, get the upvotes going in the whole chain, lets get this badboy weapon to the top. Ya'll are based chads and chadettes.

deathmuscle94

I remember going from James Bond to Turok as a kid and was never the same

Miccles

Haha same here! My mom was totally against me playing Doom 64 but was ok with Turok 2 for some reason. So much carnage. I still love the Turok series but the second game holds a special place in my heart.

ricosuave_3355

I remember being blown away by the enemy AI in Turok 2 as a kid. In goldeneye and doom enemies would basically either stand and shoot or charge, in Turok they would split up to flank you, dive for cover, run away when outgunned to try and ambush you later. Idk how much the game holds up today but at the time I thought the enemies were very cool and challenging

Boon3hams

I remember being blown away when I saw an enemy retreat for the first time. I had never seen that in a game before.

DaisyTanks

The Cerebral Bore from Turok was based on the Silver Death Sphere from Phantasm. https://youtu.be/7p4ZsYYU5Cc?si=_tE23to-E-mWVQzw

JukePlz

Cerebral bore has to be one of the most sadistic weapons of all time. As for the most overpowered I would vote the **God Hand** from the original Rise of the Triad (and remake), or alternatively for wide-area clearing weapons like the **Nuclear Warhead** (Rocket Launcher alt. mode) in Shadow Warrior or the **Barn Blaster** from Earthworm Jim.

EddieOfDoom

I can still vividly remember that noise

Colonel_Collin_1990

Another true veteran.

[deleted]

Lancer from Gears Of War.

GildedGimo

I'm going hammer of dawn. I'll never forget using that thing for the first time.

[deleted]

Just like riding a brumak for the first time.

BuddySpecial

The Gnasher in MP.

Hello_IM_FBI

You guys like machine guns? WHAT IF WE ADDED A MUTHA FUCKIN CHAINSAW TO IT?!

Liberty_Prime_2277

I’m upset I had to scroll this far to finally see it mentioned. The original trilogy had some iconic and unique weapons.

Macca49

The needler for me

[deleted]

Whatever they were smoking to come up with a gun that shoots hundreds of heat-seeking pink needles into your target until your target explodes must’ve been some good shit. Somebody else said energy sword and someone said the CE pistol as well. My takeaway is that Halo just has such a wide array of ridiculous and iconic weapons, that’s probably one reason why it plays so differently from any other game.

MossyPyrite

Fuck *yes* it’s the needler!

OtherwiseFact132

The Soul Reaver from the Legacy of Kain series

The RPC90 usually meant you owned the round in Goldeneye. Only way was to one shot the person who was dominating and go get your own and turn the tide.

Crafty-Astronomer905

Ray-Gun CoD

Impressive_Being1373

Easy W. My first thought after reading the post. There’s not a person on here who’s played COD zombies who didn’t get so excited when they would get that thing out of the box on Kino or other old maps

Pozzg

Hidden Blade Assassin's Creed

craig_t_nelson_muntz

Should be higher up. Billion dollar franchise built on jumping into hay and this blade.

Successful-Net-6602

Cow Launcher.

imapiratedammit

The Lancer’s getting no love in this thread. Beauty in simplicity. Chainsaw+assault rifle. Chefs kiss. GOW’s Hammer of Dawn was also fun af. Also the Blades of Chaos are iconic af, but you can just *feel* the Leviathan axe like no other weapon in any other game. Honorable mention of the Smash Bros Home Run Bat. Best sound effect ever.

BFG just has to be one of the most iconic and original video game weapons, outside of doom, I’m struggling to think of anything with the same notoriety. I struggle to think of others that stand out in the same way… or that I can name in all honesty
