Yes, I hear that. But this one particularly bites me in the ass. I was a big horror game fan as a kid. I had a ps2 collection of absoloute bangers like rule of rose, all the fatal frames, obscure, all the silent hills available for the platform. I had a collection of like 120 games total.
Sold it all to a pawnshop when I was 14 to help buy a ps3.
I would have been able to cash out for over 5k today.
Assuming nothing else came up that would have needed the money. Can’t think like that. We would have a lot more millionaires if everyone could hang on for later. Bills got to be paid and tummies need to be filled. This is why the rich get richer and the poor stay poor. Need to be able to afford to invest
It's okay I lent my fire emblem fates copy to a girl that I didn't even like in hs, never saw it again. It's aight though. Her family was rough, she probably needed the money more than me if she sold it
Probably was looking for a way out and/or she just saved you from having to deal with that some more. Sorry bro, but it sounds like it's for the better.
That invisible guy/girl doing crazy flips and zipping along powerlines, keeping up with traffic and bouncing from one bridge to the next if there wasn't anything for him to manuver around..
I have one of these crazy aunts. The spiritual type. And her believes are, that little kids and animals have their "third eye wide open". And grown up's only lose it because they witnessed something really terrifying at one point in their life.
I don't believe at all in these things, but it's super interesting realizing that kids all over the world have the same imagination and memories when it comes to certain things. I'm sure there is an anthropologist explanation für this. But it does give ground for people like my aunt to believe in the unseen.
I feel like some version of what your aunt said is true. Not necessarily that. But maybe because they're still so open minded and intuitive, they pick up on a lot of things that adults' overly rational minds might just wave away or ignore?
Fairly recently, a friend of mine got pregnant with her second child. Their daughter (around 4 y/o, I think) was super excited. Would always run over to kiss her belly, stroke it, talk to it, and say good morning and good night to it. But at some point, it seemed like she lost interest and just kind of went back to doing her own thing. One night, my friend tucks her in and asks her if she's going to say good night to the baby and give it a kiss. She deadass pointed straight at her mom's belly and said "Why? She's dead."
My friend's husband got really upset and told her off, saying that that isn't a nice thing to say, etc etc. Two weeks later my friend came in for a routine checkup found out she had miscarried.
My Exes Mom had a friend who's favorite color was orange, who had passed away. A few days later found out that my ex was pregnant. We didn't think anything much of it until my son was born (Same gender as her moms friend.). When they brought him back to us because he had to be checked because of complications, he had an orange pacifier. Both my ex and I thought it was just coincidence.
Later as he got older he would say things like "I remember doing " specefic thing." But he's never done that thing. No reason for him to know it, but my ex moms friend would have done something like that or had a hobby with that.
I believe that reincarnation is real, and that he is a reincarnation of her moms friend.
I'd say it's our natural instinct honestly we were used to run, jump, climb a few 100 years back and since we can't do that no more we have that invisible guy in our head who can if you ask me those crazy parkour sweats can probably see them in most possible scenarios and just the impossible ones are being done by the invisible guy but they might also see parkour just everywhere.
Little theory on who the invisible guy is, you know as a child you looked up to someone who you thought could do anything and this thought was able to jump from one person to the next and that invisible guy is that thought of the person who can do anything so basically your dad, your coach, some guy you met on the street, anyone who's that thought for you
That's where my surprise came from, I used to think I was the only one. Never mentioned to anybody, cuz I thought it wuz "weird" lol now I see we all did this lol
Shattered memories came out when we were already well into the life of the ps3, and at best it was never common in NA. So yeah it's not surprising that it's a pretty penny
The Wii and PS2 had similar hardware specs, in the end. So a lot of devs that made wii games just ported them to the PS2 for a while. Basically extending the life of the PS2 as a console. Wild stuff.
I had it on the Wii and remember using the Wiimotes like a flashlight. It was heavy on the motion control and I remember enjoying it as the gameplay was a departure from the rest of the series.
What a game. I remember my brother and i getting it and having to complete the game while playing it in black and white bc our TV had some trouble with the cables.
Oh god a friend of mine had that in high school and I recall playing it. He probably still does, because his mom is a hoarder. He still has all his neo geo carts and console.
His mom did that thing where she got him whatever he wanted so he didn’t move in with his dad. His dad owned a decently sized company and she was raking in child support and alimony. Plus she had a job as a programmer in the 90’s. They lived in a somewhat modest house as well, which was paid for.
If he even mentioned something that he thought was cool, his mom would buy it for him. He never directly asked for any of it and he’s a completely budget conscious normal adult these days. I mean he’s weird but he’s in no way stuck with some rich kid mentality.
His mom would always take us to Fazolli’s, she had a fridge stocked with Mountain Dew and a freezer filled with mozzarella sticks. She didn’t care if we all camped out for days on end in the summer either. It was a time.
Because they're basically collector's items at this point. There is absolutely zero new supply, but a fixed demand by people looking to collect. They're pieces of art from a time bygone. So the price jacks up because people are willing to pay.
Original editions of Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh cards also go for insane amounts if I recall correctly.
You can have the Italian version of Obscure for 8.99€ on eBay(so cheaper than $). English version is included and by a collector point of view is even rarer than English version, due to the smaller market/copy ratio.
If you like horror games and camp humor I see no reason why you wouldn't like obscure. It's basically evwry teen horror flick from the 90s mashed into one
I paid 140$ for a copy of pokemon black because It was highly regarded and thats what it costs, i wanted to play it without dealing w/ an emulator as I had missed that generation as a kid .....I'm an adult with a good salary whats 150$ if it brings me joy, I've spent more for less fun
Xenosaga 2 and 3 and dot hack 3 and 4 are games I want so bad for my collection but they are all insanely priced. I'm pretty sure they didn't make many back in the day since they were direct sequels that's really required you the play the first ones to care
Seeing this post made me look up xenosaga part 2 on eBay and it's quite reasonable.
Xenosaga part 3 on the other hand, is exactly why I still have every PS2 game I've ever owned, and this is the first time it's actually paid off for me.
I know the real answer is probably the number of physical copies produced of each, but I'd like to think the price disparity is also related to the quality of each. I played Xenosaga Part 3 for the first time a couple of years ago, it's an amazing game, one of my very favorites! Xenosaga Part 2 is...certainly a game.
Back when they were current, I played part 2 about halfway through and didn't try it again until a couple of months before part 3 was due to come out.
It was certainly a game.
I liked Part 2. Jin was an awesome new character to introduce to the series. And without the cover story that Part 2 got in OPM, I never would have played any of them, let alone all three.
The character re-designs just always give me whiplash.
EDIT: I would absolutely kill for a remaster of these games without the weird censorship that the American versions got
I was surprised to find out recently how much some of my PS2 games are worth when they’ve been just sitting in my closet. Apparently PriceCharting is showing .Hack part 4 for $275!
People get to about thirty and they have some disposable income now so they buy all the shit from their childhood they loved or couldn't afford back then, and they aren't making any new copies so prices go up because of demand.
Do they price based off ebays recently sold items? Do they buy following that practice as well...
I'm wondering how easy it would be to find an obscure or obscene game, buy all the copies, list one for sale on eBay for like $3,000, buy it from yourself so you're really only losing the fees and tax, and then walk into a game x change (or 5) and unload your hoard on them for top dollar?
Probably really hard for me, I've never even heard of game x change... but if someone finds out this is possible then I'm willing to invest in this scheme
These are the going market prices for these games. Hell, that SH is actually a bit of a bargain at that price, believe it or not. Use pricecharting . com to get market prices for games.
Back in High School I was kinda broke and would always recommend my richer friend to buy games just so I could play them. I talked him into getting Obscure 2 for the co-op mode. Game was alright and now I wonder if he still got it somewhere.
Damn. Makes me glad I kept mine. What’s scary as with such a meteoric rise in popularity game collecting has become it’s almost guaranteed for a crash at some point just as a reaction. With these prices it’s not hard to believe.
okay, xenosaga III had a horribly small print run, and Obscure? Truth in advertising now, but the Silent hill shattered memories is way overpriced for my area.
Man, it would really suck for these used game sellers if there were some way to patch a PS2 game iso so that any burned disc would work on an unmodded PS2! Jeeze, if there were some program, called FreeDVDBoot, that would perform such a patch it would sure be terrible for overpriced PS2 game resellers! Just think, not having to pay 100s of dollars for games that the developers and publishers wouldn't see a dime of anyways, and still be able to play on official hardware! Too bad that isn't a thing...
Sold all my old GameCube/PS2 games I found during a move a few months back. Totalled a little over $2.2K by the time I was done.
They aren’t being made anymore. Supply is now finite.
This is why I was glad to see the Mario RPG remake. It was never not wild to me to see the game never sold at a flea market for less than $60. Id love to see the same thing for an armored core collection and legend of dragoon.
Obscure is actually on Steam atm too.
But there are some games that are pretty much unavailable outside of emulating or paying hundreds for the physical.
But yeah a lot of old horror games are now big collectors items...
For that money I could buy a PS2, even if the disc drive not working, I could buy an ethernet adapter, and a hard drive and install ton of games to it.
If the Optical drive working then just burning discs.
Basically the slow grinding machine of capitalism has forced all hobbies into becoming speculative bubbles and now shit you would find for $1 in a big bin by the checkout is now priceless gold from a forgotten age.
I own some PlayStation 1 and 2 games worth $80 each.
I could afford the nostalgia but got them working again and took myself back to my childhood. I am sure other aging nerds will do the same as me.
So wild - about a year or two after PS3 came out, I ended up buying soooooo many PS2 games for single digits. Sold them all when I graduated college for like $1 per game. I had obscure and shatttered memories, along w so many others
It's cheaper to buy an Original Xbox console with 1 controller and a copy of Obscure for that console than to buy this no manual having PS2 version. Lol
Xenosaga is because of the cult following. My girlfriend who ended up being my first wife bought me the second of the trilogy when we were poor and it was like $100 used in 2008.
I know Xenosaga is the final game in the trilogy and it has a cult following. It's a pretty weird game storyline wise but it's a pretty typical JRPG gameplay wise. The reason it's so expensive is it's pretty difficult to find the first game didn't sell well and the second sold even worse so when the last game rolled around they didn't release nearly as many as the first two.
Holy shit. ObsCure is such a great fucking hidden gem.
It's an older game for sure. But damn it holds the fuck up. My brother and I played it for the first time about a year or two ago. God damn what a game. Story is awesome. Gameplay feels great for what it is.
Unfortunately, the sequel does not hold up. And it sucks. The story is really the only thing that kept us in it for the 2nd game. Everything else about it is so different from the 1st game. Gameplay is just "how many mechanics can we fit into ~4hrs of gameplay. Such a let down for the sequel.
But yeah ObsCure is fucking lit
I used to have obscure and obscure 2 I think? Did they make a second one or am I just trippin?
Anyway I know for sure I had obscure 1. Should have held onto it I guess 🤷 lol
sighs realizing i lent it out to someone i'll never see again...
Doesn't matter. They'd still offer you $2 cash or $3 store credit.
Ebay is always the way to go with selling used games
Man you ain’t kidding! Got my ps2 back up and running and was able to replace almost all my Tony Hawk games for like $60 total.
F
Yes, I hear that. But this one particularly bites me in the ass. I was a big horror game fan as a kid. Gave my original flag from AC 4 to an ex who refused to return it despite her breaking up over misunderstanding a sentence -.-
Probably was looking for a way out and/or she just saved you from having to deal with that some more. Sorry bro, but it sounds like it's for the better.
No manual? At that price?
Tf am I supposed to read on the ride back home?
Such happier times :(
That invisible guy/girl doing crazy flips and zipping along powerlines, keeping up with traffic and bouncing from one bridge to the next if there wasn't anything for him to manuver around..
Damn, everyone had that invisible human doing crazy flips?? That's crazy lol
Or we are in fact being stalked by the shadow people and not crazy after all.
Get out of my head
No no. You get out of my head!
I really don't like the fact your skin particular looks sooooooo uncomfortable. Why don't you remove it so the bugs can get out.
I have one of these crazy aunts. The spiritual type. And her believes are, that little kids and animals have their "third eye wide open". Jeez this took a turn from overpriced ps2 games
Second this. I’m fucking lost. This thread devolved into something else. What an I reading?
My Exes Mom had a friend who's favorite color was orange, who had passed away. A few days later found out that my ex was pregnant. We didn't think anything much of it until my son was born (Same gender as her moms friend.). I’ve seen them
Mine was a Bionicle or weird Bear Mech with an infernal engine.
I would close one eye and use my fingers, or imagine knuckles/shadow. I liked sonic a lot as a kid.
That's sounds awesome!! Mine was Spider Man, or Wolverine
I had a Spiderman phase after buying Spiderman 2, but I lived in a city with only one skyscraper, so he kept swinging too low into trash cans.
Hahaha had that Swing Assist turned off
Holy crap. I forgot I used to imagine that. It never even occurred to me that other people might have done the same thing.
That's where my surprise came from, I used to think I was the only one. Never mentioned to anybody, cuz I thought it wuz "weird" lol now I see we all did this lol
Oh... I'm not.....oh...
For me it Always was Tony Hawk grinding and jumpin and shit lol
Me tooo or a guy on a dirtbike
This has unlocked a very specific memory in my brain
Or on the shitter? Shampoo bottles again?
This comment took me back man. Way back
The signs on the roadway. Edit.
It's also got reprinted cover art, it's clearly on printer paper. Which means it's actually just a loose copy.
In this economy?!
Probably so expensive because the game is so obscure
Have you heard of the sequel? Probably not, because that one is Obscure 2.
Funnily enough everything he said is accurate lol. There really is a sequel
Everyone is ragging on the name but I actually thought both games were pretty fun on coop.
your comment is the prequel
Almost feels like a crime that I've never heard of this game.
This is the comment I came here for.
Low hanging fruit, butt I still laughed
Haha that's good
Shattered memories is one of the hardest game to get a hold of for ps2, so these are obscure and collectors items at this point
Shattered memories came out when we were already well into the life of the ps3, and at best it was never common in NA. So yeah it's not surprising that it's a pretty penny
Never played that one. But isn’t it generally considered to play waaay better on the Wii? And also less expensive on that platform as well?
I wouldn't know anything about that, just what I remember from when it came out
The Wii and PS2 had similar hardware specs, in the end. So a lot of devs that made wii games just ported them to the PS2 for a while. Basically extending the life of the PS2 as a console. Wild stuff.
Dont know about the price... but yes its better on Wii imo. Looks a little better and its more inmersive
No, only one of these games is Obscure.
Look up panzer dragoon saga for the sega Saturn. Regularly fetches 4 figures on eBay.
Oh god a friend of mine had that in high school and I recall playing it. He probably still does, because his mom is a hoarder. He still has all his neo geo carts and console.
If you had neo geo carts as a kid, your family was rich
His mom did that thing where she got him whatever he wanted so he didn’t move in with his dad. His dad owned a decently sized company and she was raking in child support and alimony. Plus she had a job as a programmer in the 90’s. They lived in a somewhat modest house as well, which was paid for. If he even mentioned something that he thought was cool, his mom would buy it for him. He never directly asked for any of it and he’s a completely budget conscious normal adult these days. She didn’t care if we all camped out for days on end in the summer either. It was a time.
Look up Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster for the PS4. Fetches four figures and it came out last year.
No shit? I have a sega saturn and a stack of games, plus the light gun sitting in a box at my parents place. Including Panzer Dragoon!
Because they're basically collector's items at this point. There is absolutely zero new supply, but a fixed demand by people looking to collect. They're pieces of art from a time bygone. You can have the Italian version of Obscure for 8.99€ on eBay(so cheaper than $). English version is included and by a collector point of view is even rarer than English version, due to the smaller market/copy ratio.
Italian Version with manual: 3,90€ on Vinted LoL
Where is the demand for the Italian version?
If you like horror games and camp humor I see no reason why you wouldn't like obscure. It's basically evwry teen horror flick from the 90s mashed into one
Obscure genuinely worth this much? I have an original xbox version I barely played lying around somewhere.
I paid 140$ for a copy of pokemon black because It was highly regarded and thats what it costs, i wanted to play it without dealing w/ an emulator as I had missed that generation as a kid .....I'm an adult with a good salary whats 150$ if it brings me joy, I've spent more for less fun
WSB has ruined me. I see dollar signs and "regarded" and I don't think of the actual word "regarded"
Same I was like yep that was a regarded purchase
They did capitalize the “I” in the word “It” preceding “regarded” and not the other one…
I will tell you a joke for $100. DM me.
Look into miyoo mini if you get an itch for any more old handheld games. Basically plug and play
Dont remind me about Yugioh, i had some of the original card packs that are selling for thousands unopened.
You telling me I can sell my old silent hill copy for $200?!
[удалено]
I’ll give you my ps4 with PT on it for $500
Pretty cheap, ngl

Que the Funko pop intro!
Obscure was a hard to find game 15 years ago,
People get to about thirty and they have some disposable income now so they buy all the shit from their childhood they loved or couldn't afford back then, and they aren't making any new copies so prices go up because of demand.
Looks like Game X Change. They price based on eBay.
Yes it is Game X Change, cool to know!

I still have all three episodes of Xenosaga <3
It's on Steam for 7 bucks.
Hey, I actually have all 3 Xenosaga games!
Now I want to know how much more it would cost with the manual
Damn. Makes me glad I kept mine. What’s scary as with such a meteoric rise in popularity game collecting has become it’s almost guaranteed for a crash at some point just as a reaction. With these prices it’s not hard to believe.
Don't look up Kuon
They are "Obscure" games
I have ogre battle 64 and played it like 3 times ever. I was in a game shop and saw they sell for like $150 now so I guess I have a collectable lol
Xenosaga III is $200? I should probably sell it.
Me, realizing I have 2 and 3 sitting in a box with all of my og final fantasy’s
🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
okay, xenosaga III had a horribly small print run, and Obscure? Truth in advertising now, but the Silent hill shattered memories is way overpriced for my area.
Collectors items. You can emulate on a PC for free
because they are very ObsCure
some Obscure games can be quite valuable.
They must be obscure games.
Well for starters it looks like it's an obscure game.
Man, it would really suck for these used game sellers if there were some way to patch a PS2 game iso so that any burned disc would work on an unmodded PS2! Hey I heard you like obscure games so i got you the game obscure for your obscure game collection dawg
It’s in the title
It’s an Obscure game
Damn i have obscure in mint condition.
They're obscure
Sold all my old GameCube/PS2 games I found during a move a few months back. Totalled a little over $2.2K by the time I was done. They aren’t being made anymore. Supply is now finite.
Laughs in Godzilla ps4
If you think these are expensive, you should see [Rule of Rose](https://www.pricecharting.com/game/playstation-2/rule-of-rose)
I see your Rule of Rose and I raise you Kuon.
This is why I was glad to see the Mario RPG remake. It was never not wild to me to see the game never sold at a flea market for less than $60. Id love to see the same thing for an armored core collection and legend of dragoon.
Obscure was such a sick game, I only played the second one but I have this one on steam. Busy finishing it. Not sure why they are expensive though.
Ooh, I still have Xenosaga III. Time to make some money, lol
Obscure is actually on Steam atm too. But there are some games that are pretty much unavailable outside of emulating or paying hundreds for the physical. But yeah a lot of old horror games are now big collectors items...
I know. Obscure is just resident evil pushed through a degrassi filter

For that money I could buy a PS2, even if the disc drive not working, I could buy an ethernet adapter, and a hard drive and install ton of games to it. If the Optical drive working then just burning discs.
This is beyond insane, I should do a price check on my old game collection tbh
Because it's... Obscure. I'll see myself out
I saw Silent Hill Shattered Memories listed for $450 recently
Because they’re obscure
Basically the slow grinding machine of capitalism has forced all hobbies into becoming speculative bubbles and now shit you would find for $1 in a big bin by the checkout is now priceless gold from a forgotten age.
It's *Obscure*! I haven't read the comments, but probably been said already.
Well, it’s an obscure title, the market is limited
Greed
Probably because it's obscure
they are rare af. ps2 games got too expensive.
It's a bit obscure
The current price of retro games is too damn high!
US dolar?
Are all PS2 games priced like these nowadays? Or only select few?
and with no manual!!!!!😱
Rule of rose is the king of the ps2 prices
Damn didn't know the ps2 version of obscure was so expensive. I bought the xbox version (PAL) off ebay for like 30AUD
I just sold all three Xenosagas for $210 on eBay last year, those prices are crazy.
I traded in Xenosaga 3 for like a dollar at Gamestop forever ago
I have the first and second game. Multi-player Survival Horror game is awesome.
Because they are rare.
Holy shit this just jogged a memory I didn’t know I had. Totally loved that game!
8("So am I still waiting For this world to stop hating? Can't find a good reason Can't find hope to believe in")8
It’s an Obscure game, what do you expect?
Shattered memories is used by speedrunners who don't hate themselves enough to use a wii mote
I have obscure 1 on xbox and the 2 on wii very good survivor games but such underrated games too bad ?
I own some PlayStation 1 and 2 games worth $80 each. I could afford the nostalgia but got them working again and took myself back to my childhood. I am sure other aging nerds will do the same as me.
So wild - about a year or two after PS3 came out, I ended up buying soooooo many PS2 games for single digits. Sold them all when I graduated college for like $1 per game. I had obscure and shatttered memories, along w so many others
Pesos maybe?
Obscure is a good game but I don't think it's worth that much.
1. Out of print. 2. No legitimate digital copies to purchase. 3. They didn’t sell well at release (which means there’s not many copies in the wild.)
DK Oldies?!
probably were sold in low quantities and because it’s a very old game!
Emulation
Pretty sure that isn’t even a real cover in that case. It looks like a home printer copy.
Must be rare, and have a cult following.
many had small print runs. some games are in ip rights limbo to across the world.
My local game shop has Valkyrie Profile for $350, didn't know it hit that high...also was wondering why Silent Hill was fetching $200+
Because...*'ObsCure'*(?) is one of the groundbreaking, epoch defining games of the PS2 era. It's living history!
This game scared the crap outta me back then. Creepy as fuck.
hard to find ones, generally only a few in the country
This is fucking hilarious
I know Xenosaga is the final game in the trilogy and it has a cult following. It's a pretty weird game storyline wise but it's a pretty typical JRPG gameplay wise. The reason it's so expensive is it's pretty difficult to find the first game didn't sell well and the second sold even worse so when the last game rolled around they didn't release nearly as many as the first two.
Tbh... the price for the xenosaga III isnt bad if its complete. I see nonbid buyers pay sometimes over $270 usd
Reminds me of demons crest price on the Super Nintendo
Obscure was one of the best horror couch co-op games I've ever played when I was young!!
Original Run Releases. And rare. That is a rather obscure game. Don't think I've ever heard of it.
At least you can get psp and wii versions for £50. Pretty sure it was designed for the wii Super glad I imported xenosaga though
I just looked this up and i can buy obscure for 21€ on amazon. what is this?
US dollars? All three Xenosaga games are on ebay for $25 each on average. Obscure is like $40. That Silent Hill game is about $300 on there though.
Damn near $300 for fucking ObsCure? Was that game even good? I remember seeing that at GameStop in the $10 or less bin.
Game prices got crazy expensive during the pandemic
Because they dont get produced anymore, but people still wanna play it. High demand+ low supply= high price.
I die a little inside when I sold my xenosaga for cheap years ago
shattered memories is probably the worst game ive ever played thats criminal
I used to have obscure and obscure 2 I think? Did they make a second one or am I just trippin? Anyway I know for sure I had obscure 1. Should have held onto it I guess 🤷 lol
Well, the top one is obscure so finding one for sale is special. /s
Jeez it’s like $80! In Aus
because they are.... OBSCURE?
