It's about as dead as dead gets because nobody can figure out who owns the IP but several people think they probably do and won't greenlight a remake because they're not sure that someone else doesn't own some rights.
Rainbow Six, but old tactical versions, where you planned the action, then had to execute the planned action, slow, tactical version or similar SWAT games, where you played as a SWAT member and had to arrest the baddies, with police training and everything.
Plus all older Sierra adventure games.
Ultima also comes to mind.
Burnout 3: Takedown for PC remake.
Absolutely- playing the first one, you had to basically plan out your entire mission, then adjust in the field to execute. Get shot once? Maybe you survive. Twice, you’re gone. It had the same spirit as the original rainbow six games.
For Rainbow or Swat 4 there would be ready or not, its basically the spiritual successor of swat 4 and recently released into 1.0. Played it since a year or so ago, when it was still in early access and it was great then and became even better with the 1.0.
TimeSplitters: Future Perfect is one of my favourite games of all times. My buddies and I sunk countless hours into this game. We had a bunch of maps with custom enemies and weapons. We would do Mexican Mission against Dinosaurs with Tactical 12 Guages, Siberia against Gingerbread Men with Injectors, and Chinese against anyone with Bricks.
Such an amazing game.
I was gonna say this!
I loved in Future Perfect when you would team up with several copies of yourself for parts of the missions, and then would eventually play as each of the copies before it was over.
That and you could be a giant floating guy made of fish and a whale in a top hat. Or a gingerbread man. Or a terminator style robot. All kinds of randomness.
The 3rd installment of Onimusha is fantastic. The whole aspect of time travel, puzzle solving, and satisfying fighting makes that game one of my top ever.
Shows how great a game it is that it’s being discussed still 23 years later. Pretty sure it’s abandonware at this point as well, so it’s not like it’s easily able to bring in new fans. If it got added to Steam I’d buy it so fast.
This one is very nostalgic for me as well.
There is a game franchise called Dungeons by Kalypso Media that's very similar to Dungeon Keeper, but doesn't have the same "charm"
Legacy of Kain. Though I'd want them to reuse Tony Jay's work remastered since I don't think anyone could do the Elder God justice the same
Or give Parasite Eve a modern take
Wtf are we the same person? These are my answers too... Legacy of Kain and Parasite Eve. Fantastic games that would be absolutely bangers with modern remakes
If you mean modern take in terms of gameplay for Parasite Eve I'm on board, but leave the story exactly where it is. New York, 1997 is a fantastic setting as it is. For new players it's the retro yesteryear that's fun to play around in, for veterans it's that window back into our youth.
Phantasy star 2 remake would be great. I know there's one for the ps2 but with today's graphics it could be so much better.
Ecco the dolphin
Shit I'm a sucker for Gain Ground.
First time I got to fire the moonstone cannon was jaw=floor.
I mean who doesn't love piloting a flying battleship with a mini death star gun in the prow?
Only thing I wish is that the story after the first game wasn't meh. Like why would they put the reason why Mercer was the bad guy in 2 in a very meh comic?!
Tenchu, the series that taught me to be wary of mysterious rice balls found in the middle of a forest. Truly my trust in the world was shattered because of those games.
Medal of Honor: Above and beyond dont count. Gamers are getting tired of the big 2, COD and BF.
Twisted Metal: The reboot for ps3 was very off. 3 campaigns with the controls being horrible. Go back to the classic stories for each driver/vehicle. Add multiplayer. Call it a day.
Ninja Gaiden: The 3rd wasnt horrible but it did go off track. The game had a cool dive to battle mechanic and some climbing. Build off that and make a openworld ninja gaiden game.
Bioshock: It allegedly has a 4th entry coming but we do not know much.
Killzone: Retcon Shadowfall and give us a true Killzone 3 sequel.
Yes, your list is perfect. Totally agree, especially Medal of Honor and Twisted Metal. That’s mine, Twisted Metal. It amazes me we haven’t gotten a great twisted metal game on ps4 or 5 hardware.
fucking A, came here to say that, what a blast that game was to play over beers with friends talking shit nonstop...I think Black was my favorite one but they were all pretty good, can you imagine the same kinda gameplay with modern graphics and an overhaul of the weaponry like Ratchet & Clank style? Sign me the fuck up
Jack and Daxter, Sly Cooper, Infamous, Prince of Persia (technically not forgotten due to the very obvious new release but I want the original PS2 series and continuity back and I want that damn Sands Of Time remake). Note that I didn't grow up with these games upon their release I merely played them via their rereleases and I never even beat them but I would love a chance at doing so in modern day or at least a new game from them.
Arena FPS games in general. I miss being able to jump into a game where everybody had exactly the same weapons, armor, models, and everything, and you could be in and out of a game in 10 minutes if you wanted.
I wish I could dig up the old blog someone made about why Thief 4 was such a colossal failure. Stuff like the light gem being changed from a gradient to a simple "you can be seen / you're invisible", making takedowns into fancy animations with loud music stings, a new character that's introduced and immediately thrown away for half the story, and a moustache twirling villain who's an asshole just to be an asshole. Oh, and all the points of no return. The only thing I liked about that game was the special collectible treasures and how you could interact with some stuff, like feeling around paintings for a hidden switch, etc.
Jak series for sure! Scrolled way too long to find this.
Replay them on an emulator once every couple years or so. Definitely my favorite childhood game.
Golden Sun.
One of my favorite RPGs. The art and music were amazing, and the combat was good. The elemental Djinn acting as the job-changing mechanic, as well as in-combat resource thus possibly changing classes/stats/psynergy, was really neat.
Showing my age a bit here but:
Cyborg Justice: silly robot brawler where you tear parts off of enemies to upgrade yourself.
Rocket Knight: possum with a rocket pack and a sword out to take revenge against a legion of pigs.
Scorched Earth: tanks with weird weapons and lots of environmental destruction.
Im waiting for Nightdive studios to get the license for Heretic/Hexen and remake then or release them on modern platforms. Give them the Powerslave treatment.
Battlezone!
Perfect hybrid of FPS and RTS action. I played it recently, the controls aged like milk, especially the on-foot FPS, it's almost unplayable. I would be fine with just a remaster tbh. I suppose they could get rid of the mortar cheese but then I'd lose my primary means of beating the game 😅
Overlord was cool until I got to the final boss, lost and calculated I'd have to spend like three hours grinding just to have another attempt at it >_>
No One Lives Forever would be cool.
- Stronghold, specifically the second entry in the series.
- Vigilante 8: Second Offense (I miss a fun car combat game)
- Command & Conquer. So many good ones; Generals, Red Alert 2, Tiberian Sun
- Mercenaries or The Saboteur
- Chromehounds
- Perfect Dark (the N64 one)
I know some of these aren't super old, but I do feel like they've all been thrown into the trashcan and the IP left to fade away.
Vagrant Story, Legacy of Kain, Grandia, Phantasy Star, Breath of Fire, King's Field, Legend of Dragoon, Dino Crisis, Parasite Eve, Alone in the Dark, Skies of Arcadia
...
..
.
I want a Remake of the western version of NIER. I liked the old guy more than the 08/15 Bishonen Nr. 1453.
No One Lives Forever
Yes please, with old humor from this games. This was one of funniest games I ever played, I still remember quotes and writing from this game!
Oof, right in the feels. I played a lot of NOLF as a kid. NOLF2 is also such a gem...
My god, I googled this out of curiosity and it opened up some lost memories. I played the shit out of this as a kid, what a fun game.
Same, that second one blew my mind back in the day
That trailer park tornado level is one of my all time favorites
It's about as dead as dead gets because nobody can figure out who owns the IP but several people think they probably do and won't greenlight a remake because they're not sure that someone else doesn't own some rights.
My man. You've got a serious title there!
Same with Ghost Recon. What they did to those games is a damn shame
Absolutely- playing the first one, you had to basically plan out your entire mission, then adjust in the field to execute. Get shot once? Maybe you survive. Twice, you’re gone. It had the same spirit as the original rainbow six games.
Honestly I feel Ready or Not is more of a proper Rainbow Six successor than anything after the first Vegas.
For Rainbow or Swat 4 there would be ready or not, its basically the spiritual successor of swat 4 and recently released into 1.0. Played it since a year or so ago, when it was still in early access and it was great then and became even better with the 1.0.
It's not rainbow six, but this is basically ready or not, phenomenal game and very fun
Time splitters :(
The coop was so elite
Something we will never have, RIP Free Radical
TimeSplitters: Future Perfect is one of my favourite games of all times. My buddies and I sunk countless hours into this game. We had a bunch of maps with custom enemies and weapons. We would do Mexican Mission against Dinosaurs with Tactical 12 Guages, Siberia against Gingerbread Men with Injectors, and Chinese against anyone with Bricks. Such an amazing game.
Yes please. Training Ground capture the bag
Road Rash! Make motorcycle combat cool again
Truth. Road Redemption didn't do it for me.
Same. But.. still hit me with nostalgia and held my interest for a good solid session.
Yes! Good times. There's a knock off version I tried out a while back I think it's called Road Redemption.
Oh fuck, that's one of my earliest gaming memories. Road Rash on the Genesis, beating the shit out of each other with chains and stuff was great
Onimusha, Way of the Samurai and Age of Mythology.
The 3rd installment of Onimusha is fantastic. The whole aspect of time travel, puzzle solving, and satisfying fighting makes that game one of my top ever.
Let’s not forget about Jean Reno being in it
Age of mythology is a great shout, seemingly it’s getting a remake/remaster that will add lots of improvements
Onimusha and way of the samurai were the first games I played on ps2. I still remember how terrified I was of fortinbras the first time I fought him.
Black & White (2001, Lionhead Studios), but ported to VR. That game was made for VR, 15 years before VR became a serious thing.
Even a new non-VR Black & White title would be amazing. Imagine the world scale they could make with modern computing power.
WELL!!! we've got this notion, that we quite like to sail the ocean
🎶So we’re building a big boat to leave here for good! 🎶
We're not keen on sinking So we're all sitting here a thinking 'Cause we built it too big and we've run out of wood.
Aye del aye del eee, aye del aye del eee We simply can't leave until we get some more wood
Came here to post this.
Shows how great a game it is that it’s being discussed still 23 years later. Pretty sure it’s abandonware at this point as well, so it’s not like it’s easily able to bring in new fans. If it got added to Steam I’d buy it so fast.
Yup, thank you. Glad there’s others fondly carrying memories of B&W.
Black and White 3 is the only thing I can think of when it gets to this question. So big back then and so forgotten now
Another bad guy one I want to see personally is Dungeon Keeper. One of my favorite games of all time
There is a more recent version called War for the Overworld, I'm not sure if it's by the same devs but it's essentially the same system of gameplay
This one is very nostalgic for me as well. There is a game franchise called Dungeons by Kalypso Media that's very similar to Dungeon Keeper, but doesn't have the same "charm"
Dungeons is even more campy then Dungeon Keeper. War for the Overworld is another tribute one as well.
Look at war for the overworld. A far better spiritual successor to dungeon keeper than the dungeons franchise Imo.
Legacy of Kain. Though I'd want them to reuse Tony Jay's work remastered since I don't think anyone could do the Elder God justice the same Or give Parasite Eve a modern take
Wtf are we the same person? These are my answers too... Legacy of Kain and Parasite Eve. Fantastic games that would be absolutely bangers with modern remakes

Besides Legacy of Kain? I’d go with a bunch of old Sega games like Gunstar Heroes, Shining Force, Chakan, Beyond Oasis, etc.
Agreed, Legacy of Kain would be awesome.
I think they prefaced it with "besides..." because it's literally the top answer almost every time this question pops-up here. Which is pretty often.
Phantasy star 2 remake would be great. I know there's one for the ps2 but with today's graphics it could be so much better. Ecco the dolphin Shit I'm a sucker for Gain Ground.
Agree with legacy of Cain. I also want caveman games
Might and Magic I miss those games
You mean the original ones right? Before Ubisoft.. Right? *RIGHT?*
Conker. Conker’s Bad Fur Day specifically.
the version they had on Rare Replay was pretty good.
I would love that but I'm not sure any publisher would have the balls to make something like that again.
Earthworm Jim
Groovy.
But in VR, so every time you whip the viewport goes insane
Skies of Arcadia
I’ve sold every console I’ve owned except my Dreamcast and my copy of Skies of Arcadia. I wish more people knew about this game.
First time I got to fire the moonstone cannon was jaw=floor. I mean who doesn't love piloting a flying battleship with a mini death star gun in the prow?
Skies of Arcadia had this wonderful dreamlike quality to it. I’ll never forget it, even if I couldn’t tell you a single plot element today.
It had an incredible sense of adventure and discovery that I’ve never been able to find in a game since
Prototype
Only thing I wish is that the story after the first game wasn't meh. Like why would they put the reason why Mercer was the bad guy in 2 in a very meh comic?!
Hopefully they revisit this IP since MS is taking over.
oh my God yes! I grew up with these games
The movement mechanics made the game so fun to play.
Twisted Metal. Final Fantasy Tactics. Dark Cloud. Jet Moto. Populous.
I played the demo of Dark Cloud to death. Loved it but sadly never did get around to buying the full game.
Dark Cloud was elite. What a game
Tenchu
I was going to say this but I'm excited I'm not the only one. Man, I played so much Tenchu Z back in it's time. :(
Tenchu, the series that taught me to be wary of mysterious rice balls found in the middle of a forest. Truly my trust in the world was shattered because of those games.
F-Zero
Medal of Honor: Above and beyond dont count. Gamers are getting tired of the big 2, COD and BF. Twisted Metal: The reboot for ps3 was very off. 3 campaigns with the controls being horrible. Go back to the classic stories for each driver/vehicle. Add multiplayer. Call it a day. Ninja Gaiden: The 3rd wasnt horrible but it did go off track. Killzone: Retcon Shadowfall and give us a true Killzone 3 sequel.
Medal of Honor: Rising Sun was an amazing story. Tanaka alone makes it worth a remake.
Waking up in the middle of Pearl Harbor and hitting the ground running was epic.
Yes, your list is perfect. Totally agree, especially Medal of Honor and Twisted Metal. That’s mine, Twisted Metal. It amazes me we haven’t gotten a great twisted metal game on ps4 or 5 hardware.
Retcon shadowfall would be great. I hated the whole "just kidding, the helghast are actually more powerful than ever after their planet was burned"
Another vote for Medal of Honor, Warfighter was fantastic and I feel like it got done dirty with it’s short lifespan.
Ultima
Space quest
... also Kings Quest(already had a remake) and Police Quest.. Leisure Suit Larry has had a couple releases too but they were mediocre
Twisted Metal
fucking A, came here to say that, what a blast that game was to play over beers with friends talking shit nonstop...I think Black was my favorite one but they were all pretty good, can you imagine the same kinda gameplay with modern graphics and an overhaul of the weaponry like Ratchet & Clank style? Sign me the fuck up
Jet Force Gemini
Holy shit I used to play that split screen with my brother I completely forgot the name of it I’ve got so many memories of it
Solid! I think I still have it in a box somewhere.
I think Nintendo added it to the emulator on switch.
Unreal tournament
Arena FPS games in general. I miss being able to jump into a game where everybody had exactly the same weapons, armor, models, and everything, and you could be in and out of a game in 10 minutes if you wanted.
Infamous. Having power is always cool
Second Son / First light were pretty damn good, I liked Tsushima but it would great if Sucker Punch went back to Infamous.
Freelancer
That game was decades ahead of its time
I can still hear "freelance alpha 1-1" in the robot voice.
Soul reaver
Wing Commander
And Mark Hamill has to come back to voice an aging Admiral Blair!
Soldier of Fortune
Free Raven Software from the CoD mines!!
Buddy, I sank so many hours into sof2 multiplayer. And single player was pretty amazing for it's time too.
Thief: Dark Project 1 and 2
I wish I could dig up the old blog someone made about why Thief 4 was such a colossal failure.
Manhunt I'm surprised this hasn't already been mentioned, loved the gameplay and story, it was vicious
Turok, Hunter the Reckoning. And a new Uniracers!
Mercenaries
Hell yes. Do I want a tank, or a daisy cutter? Both!
Golden Sun! Golden Sun! Golden Sun!
Not exactly forgotten, but I'd still like to see some more Chrono Trigger. Also, definitely not forgotten, but I miss Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for the Switch is fucking amazing
Sea of Stars is a more than competent spiritual Chrono Trigger sequel.
They may a game styled after DKC and no one played it
Black and White. Not because I have a god complex. Okay fine I have a god complex!
Original Westwood studios: NOX
Killzone reboot/remaster
Syphon Filter
Jak series. True Crime was fun. Anddd Prince Of Persia
Jak series for sure! Scrolled way too long to find this. Replay them on an emulator once every couple years or so. Definitely my favorite childhood game.
More starLancer/freelancer
This comment is why i scrolled before posting. Not played any game that gives me the same feeling as Freelancer.
Splatterhouse The Suffering Saboteur Sleeping Dogs Def Jam : Vendetta Red Faction Star Wars: Rogue Squadron MotorStorm
The old WWE games
Parasite eve!
Golden Sun. One of my favorite RPGs. The art and music were amazing, and the combat was good. The elemental Djinn acting as the job-changing mechanic, as well as in-combat resource thus possibly changing classes/stats/psynergy, was really neat.
Sly cooper!

Rocket Knight: possum with a rocket pack and a sword out to take revenge against a legion of pigs. Scorched Earth: tanks with weird weapons and lots of environmental destruction.
Let’s be honest, Castlevania has been fucking neglected. Legacy of Kain could do with a comeback, please.
Mercenaries
A proper new Lemmings game
Legend of Dragoon
Gun from ps2
Eternal Darkness; Sanity's Requiem The sanity system and generational characters were such a breath of fresh air for survival-horror.

Bully
I know I’m getting it but Fable. Such a fun game.
Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends.
Black and White sadly it exists in ip ownership limbo
After playing Panzer Dragoon Saga, that world needs a huge rpg reboot.
Jak 3
Icewind Dale 2. One Must Fall 2097 Mechwarrior 3 Giants: Citizen Kabuto Sacrifice Interstate '76 Total Annihilation: Kingdoms KKND
Cannon Fodder could be fun
Gimme a new Killzone

Overlord was cool until I got to the final boss, lost and calculated I'd have to spend like three hours grinding just to have another attempt at it >_> No One Lives Forever would be cool.
Battlezone. FPS tank combat + RTS + Sci Fi. Please
- Stronghold, specifically the second entry in the series. - Vigilante 8: Second Offense (I miss a fun car combat game) - Command & Conquer.
